Murray and Konta lead the charge into the new year for Great Britain.
Australian Open 2017 starter question: In which round will Kyrgios have the meltdown?
-
The next one.
-
At least I can agree with him on Trump.

Australian Open 2017 starter question: In which round will Kyrgios have the meltdown?
Round 2 or 3 I think
-
Don't forget Evans just beating Cilic
-
The next one.
I think I win. Kyrgios knocked out after blowing a two set lead and received two warnings from the umpire.
-
Superb victory for the Villa fan
-
Is there a new Maria to replace Maria and Maria?
-
Well done Dan Evans to beat former US Open Champion Marin Cilic! And, of course, we'll done Sir Andy!
-
Evans was 1-4 down in the first i believe. Great result for him; well done son.
-
Djokovic out, Murray's to lose now.
-
Djokovic out, Murray's to lose now.
Thought he had Zverev in his part of the draw, young up and coming player who would be a tricky opponent. Turns out it is actually Zverev's older brother who's never been past the 3rd Round in a Slam.
-
Nadal and Federer would still beat Murray more often than not.

Ha, my thoughts precisely. I love the idea of another Federer win, but Murray is world number one for a reason and now the greatest that to his chances of winning by a margin is out. His to lose now.

I agree, Murray or Sir Andy has improved massively over the last few years, he is the best for a good reason.
-
Now Mark, come on, there's no way we actually agree. Surely.
-
Dan Evans live on Eurosport now.
-
Villa fan is 2 sets up
-
Doing really well..
-
Our boy is killing it! EVOARMY
-
How good was he?? Very proud, Brummie and a Villa fan.. doesn't get any better.
-
Marvellous stuff.
-
Dan Evans you Flippin beauty.
-

It does get better for me. No shirt sponsor so I'm assuming he is also an anti-capitalist, Marxist socialist who is going to bring about the revolution by agitating socio-political unrest amongst the poverty stricken underclass within...erm... suburban tennis clubs. Brill.
-
Nah, lost his deal with Nike.
Currently watching Federer vs Berdych, partly for glimpses of Berdych's stunning missus.

I'll wager that if Murray plays Federer or nadal he'll lose. probably quite easily.
Anyway, now that we've got an Englishman starting to win games we can stop pretending to care (for the Anglo-Saxons among us).
-
Federer looks likely to progress against Berdych.
He is the greatest tennis player I've ever seen, seems to effortlessly glide across the court, whereas Nadal, Murray and Djokovic always had to bust a gut to be great.

Peter, Nigel Farage appears to have hacked into your Heroes and Villains account.
😛
I'll happily take the wager though!
-
Murray will win the Aussie. Be good to get career grand slam polished off this year.
-
Can't see him winning the French but I reckon he could win another half a dozen majors.
If he did win them both though it would be a "Super Slam" not a Grand Slam as he has won the Olympics and the end of year World Championship thing. Only Agassi has ever competed a men's singles Super Slam so would be some achievement.
-
Only Djokovic stopped him in French last year so why can't he win it?
-
Now Mark, come on, there's no way we actually agree. Surely.
Its easy when you agree with me ;-)
-

Djokovic out! Murray has every chance now. Only maybe Federer in his way....
-
Great win for Konta today against Wozniacki losing only 3 games. How about an Andy and Johanna double!
-
Dan Evans has a lovely single-handed backhand.
-
Another major shock Murray loses to a player aged 29, who has previously not got passed the 3rd round in a major. Only watched the last set, whilst gutted for Murray, it was good to see a player winning a game, using serve and volley tactics for a change.
Sadly as expected Dan Evans is also out. Have no idea, whose going to win it now.
-
Thoroughly enjoyed the Murray game, Zharev was superb and it's nice to see an underdog for years finally get some time to shine. He fully deserved it.
-

Good call!
-
The useless Scottish twat.
-
Last Brit standing Jo Konta through to the quarters, still to drop a set. Next up Serena, I reckon she might lose a set in that one, on her way to the semis.
-
Whilst I'm disappointed that Murray is out, with him and Djokovic being knocked out, it does make the tennis a bit more exciting.
Just hope that Monfils can knock out the cheating, whinging, arse-picking, rat-faced Nadal now and then I can enjoy the tournament fully.
-
The useless Scottish twat.
Until reading this thread I had no idea that Sirandy had been knocked out. I had SkySports News on several times yesterday and it wasn't mentioned and didn't appear on the scroll. I assume that because Sky don't have the TV rights, they don't give Tennis much attention

They had it scrolling across the yellow ticker when I switched onto it to be fair.

She is a convict really.
-
She moved to Britain when she was fourteen so a lot more British than a good percentage of the England cricket/rugby teams, among others. Anyone that turns their back on the Crims is fine by me.
-
Federer won't get many QF wins like that these days.
Let's hope Konta can avoid being distracted by the petty drama and time wasting skills of Her Largeness of Arse
-

She was a convict until 2012 then changed her mind because the LTA were willing to throw a few bob at her.
-
Her hitting partner - Andrew Fitzpatrick - is my mate's son. He';s a big Villa fan and could have joined but chose the tennis path.
-
Three of the 4 men in the AO SFs are over 30 and play a single-handed backhand.
Three of the 4 women in the AO SFs were over 30.
-
Serena Williams 35 will play Venus Williams 36 in the Final.
And Federer 35 will play Nadal 30 or Dimitrov 25.
Federer is the oldest male to get to a Grand Slam Final since 1974.
-
What was that about Tennis 2012?
-
What was that about Tennis 2012?
Overhead smash. Well played.
-
Both Semi-Finals in the men's tournament go to 5 sets.
Come on Dimitrov!
-
Party like its 2008
-
Party like its 2008
Federer is into the Final = Yay
Nadal is into the Final = Boo
-
The bookies would have given you long odds on these 2 getting to the final.
-
Why the dislike of Nadal (from those who don't like him obviously)? Would like him to win, although not massively fussed if it goes the other way.
Wonder if this final is an anomaly or a sign that those outside the old top 4 really are a long way back. Not a criticism of those coming up behind Murray and Djokovic but it adds to a belief these four are greats by an astonishing distance. With the top two out you'd really have expected someone from 3-8 to step up. The fact none could stop a relatively in form but ageing Nadal and Federer seems incredible to me. Add in the Williams sisters and we are bloody lucky to see all these winning in the same era.
-
Don't think you can call Murray a great yet. Needs to win more grand slams to do that he presently has 3 compared to Federer 17, Nadal 14, Djokovic 12. Probably needs to win at least another 3 or 4 until he can be call that, still has the time and ability to do that.
-
Apparently the odds of the Williams sisters and Federer and Nadal reaching the 2 finals were 5000 to 1. It's another Leicester City.
-
Why the dislike of Nadal (from those who don't like him obviously)?
He picks his arse. He grunts at a ridiculously loud level that can only be cheating. He slows the game down to Cliff Thorburn speeds when his opponent is on a role. He's an arse-picker. He comes from Mallorca yet supports Real Madrid. He doesn't know how to use shampoo. He's a prick. Oh, and did I mention he picks his arse?

I actually quite enjoyed the Williams' Final, although was hoping that Venus could cause a shock. Do they have a brother called Mars?

SCUM!!!
-
Just turned Eurosport on but they seem to be showing some old match between Nadal and Federer.
Who won this year's final?
-
Federer is 2-1 up 1-1 in the 4th set. Good match.
-
Looks like the arse picker is going to win. 😣
-

Don't dislike him as a person, but on court...
His style of tennis is ugly, he's basically a spoiler who relies mainly on the opponent making errors (Michael Chang on steroids).
His gurning, grunting and grimacing.
Uncle Toni.
2-handed backhand.
The fact that Federer bottles it every time he plays him.
-
Looks like the arse picker is going to win. 😣
Maybe not! Mon Federer.
-
fkn hell what a rally
-
Just brilliant. Well done Rog.
-
I am very happy about that. By Christ that was good.

Wasn't it just? Don't know about them but I'm knackered just having watched it!

I was gunning for Federer of course, bit I was almost miffed when it ended because it was just so amazing to watch. They're just the best two players ever, surely - and without a doubt theirs is the best rivalry in tennis ever, and maybe in all sport.
-
Very pleased Fed won.
-
Dan Evans is having some start to 2017!!
-
Unusual end to the Davis Cup tennis. Britain win 3-2 after Canadian player disqualified for whacking the ball away in a strop, and hitting the umpire.
-
Canadian player disqualified for whacking the ball away in a strop, and hitting the umpire.
Just what the sport needs: another Kyrgios.
-
He tried to whack it over the stand having a tantrum at being broken again. Unfortunately he cocked that up as well and twatted it into the umpires eye. Better than watching the half time show in the Super Bowl.

I don't think he's that bad. It was just a mistake and he looked extremely apologetic afterwards.

"Johanna Konta beats Lara Arruabarrena to reach last eight in Miami"
http://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/39415351
-
Konta wins the Miami open and is now ranked 7th in the world.
Possible major this year?
-
I think I've mentioned on here that her hitting partner and some time coach is a huge Villa fan and was offered terms to join us as a kid - Andrew Fitzpatrick. He said to me after Konta won, and I quote, " Is it weird I'm just as pumped about the villa win?"
-
Konta wins the Miami open and is now ranked 7th in the world.

Fantastic win and her meteoric rise continues.
-
Konta is a breath of fresh air on the WTA circuit. No drama, no hysterics, no baggage, no Sports Illustrated swimsuit modelling gigs...
-
Forgot what thread I was in, misread that as "Kodjia", and was throughly confused.
I should probably go to sleep.
-
If he is winning tennis tournaments, on top of his Villa commitments, then kudos.
-
Davis Cup just started on BBC2
Kyle Edmund just won first game of match against his French counterpart .Pouille (17th in world)
Andy Murray out injured so not sure what team is, Dan Evans up next v Jeremy Chardy
1-1 first set
-
Edmund 5-7, 1-2 Pouille
-
Edmund 5-7, 6-7 Pouilee
Edmund was 5-2 up in the tiebreak and somehow contrived to lose it. Long way back for Kyle now.
-
Edmund lost the 3rd set and match 6-3.
France 1-0
-
Ilie Nastase sounds like a right prick.
-
Nasty banned from Wimbledon, Johanna Konta will be pleased.
-
Nasty, there can't be many people, who have lived up to their name, as much as he has done.
-
Tuned in to ITV's French Open coverage yesterday just in time for John Inverdale's interview with Bettany Mattek Sands (?) about her tattoos and flashy outfits. Needless to say that didn't stay on for very long.
-
It's been a great year if you like finding out that former tennis legends are massive ******.

It's been a great year if you like finding out that former tennis legends are massive c***s.
Fair play to Navratilova for speaking out so directly. I think it is perfectly legitimate to disregard a person's sporting ability because they are unpleasant human beings. They made a five part documentary about OJ on the very subject.
-
Interesting comparison btw the QF draws.
For the men, 7 of the top 8 seeds made it to the QF with only Raonic (5) missing.
For the ladies, only 2 of the top 8 seeds are through with possibly a third if Pliskova wins.
-

It's not just the homophobia, either. The evil woman said that "South Africa deal with their racial issues properly" during Apartheid.
-
Wawrinka has just beaten Murray in a superb 5 set match. Wawrinka deserved to win, but clay is probably Murray's least favourite surface, so it was a great effort to get to the semis.
Wawrinka has won more majors in his 30s than his 20s. I think Murray, now just turned 30, who won 3 majors in his 20s, will also go onto win more grand slams in his 30s, starting with Wimbledon next month.
-
Just turned the tele on to see Murray has lost in 2 sets to some unknown Aussie. Not looking great for Wimbledon.
-
I'm wondering if Murray's done he's looked awful for a lot of this year. Although Nadal's recent form shows the difference injuries make.

Dan Evans fails drug test.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/40387574
He said he'd found it a sad and humbling experience. Which means he's obviously not taking it correctly.
-
I just don't get it. You are a professional athlete, why would you think for one minute that was a good idea?
-
Could be a four year ban.
Not to be sniffed at.
-
Andy Murray pulls out of a second exhibition match due to a hip injury, which seems now to be more serious than his medics previously thought. Could he be a doubt for Wimbledon.
-
Konta withdrew from her match, too.
-
Bernard Tomic is taking a lot of stick for saying he was bored during his Wimbledon match. I understand why some people think he is a whinging over paid tennis player, but the way he came across to me was someone who may have some depression issues.
-
Watson won the first set 6-0 against the 18th seed.
-
And she wins. Must be cold there.

-
Watson out, Konta through easily. Needed a quick game after the marathon the other day........odds on a British double must be shortening.
-
Murray through, but nowhere near his best. Hopefully with 2 days off will recharge him now.
-
Squeaky bum game, but Konta makes it through to last 16.........
-

Just won again, through to the last eight now......

That's what I mean.....got my rounds mixed up.
-
Murray through comfortably in straight sets.
-
This is a ridiculously good match. Hoping the Fascist, greasy, grunting, bum-picker loses but they've both given it everything.
-
This has been the best month ever for Luxembourg. I was going to say in sport, but no; just the best month in their history.
-
Why does it always seem as if Venus Williams is using a racket about as big as this one:
-
Get the tennis on and get behind Konta, she's in with a shout here.
-
She pulled out the second set somehow........too many unforced errors though, needs to cut those out.
-
Brilliant from Konta. They said her average forehand is faster than murray's
-
Great stuff from Jo Konta. Showed a lot of guts to pull that set out.
-
Just flicked over and saw my old mucka Andy fitzpatrick - her hitting partner. I mention him a lot. I'm living my life vicariously through him when I watch tennis.
-
Fantastic win! Shit finish - give your tickets to someone else if you can't control your emotions.
-
Murray completely lost the plot in that set He has a shit temperament at times
-
The final set he looked almost immobile. He's not going to be winning this tournament again I feel.
-
Disagree he still has another 2 or 3 years, in which he can win it again
-
Hopefully Federer wins it.
-
Murray completely lost the plot in that set He has a shit temperament at times
Lost the plot due to injury, John Terry isn't training today as he was watching the Scottish tennis player lose.
-
Anyone but Djokovic and Federer, please.
-
Anyone but Federer, please.
Fixed.
-
Quite an exciting final 4 in the men's tennis. Querrey, Cilic, Berdych or Federer.
Just pleased that Djokovic and Nadal are out
-
It's not really very exciting. We already know who is going to win.
-
Konta has just gone up even more having revealed she's a massive U2 fan.
Top girl.
-
Trying too hard.
-
Great effort, lost to a class act.
-
I am bored to tears watching this final.
-
The dullest final ever
-
Boring.
Now get this shit off and announce the new Doctor.
-
Had trouble keeping awake, but well done Roger the GOAT.
Mixed doubles might be better, with Jamie Murray on one side of the net and Heather Watson on the other, so gotta have a British winner.
There will be mass celebrations in the country.
-
Murray pulls out of US Open due to hip injury.
-
Konta loses in 1st round, Edmund and Norrie only Brits left in, after day one. Says a lot about British tennis.
-
Wozniacki not happy about Maria Cheatapova having her first two matches on the main court at the US Open.
Meanwhile the lass who knocked out Konta won her second round match 6-2, 6-3. Here she is in a bikini:
(http://thumb.ibb.co/jbXbxQ/01.jpg) (http://ibb.co/jbXbxQ)
-
Edmund retired hurt, no more Brits left. An useless effort.
-
Long way to go, but Mayer is a set up against Nadal; come on mate, you can do it.
-
Long way to go, but Mayer is a set up against Nadal; come on mate, you can do it.
Or perhaps not!
-
Usually when Nadal is struggling he slows the game down to a snail's pace (the bloody cheat). He actually speeded up against Mayer.
-
How shite must women's tennis be when 4 Americans can make it to the QF of a major?
-
How shite must women's tennis be when 2 (so far) Americans can make it to the SF of a major? 😂
-
Couldn't believe Del Potro beat Thiem, when I left the match he was 2 sets down and appeared so knackered, he looked as if he was about to collapse at anytime.
Federer next, that could be a cracker, unless he collapses, Del Potro that is not Roger.
Andy Murray looks as if he out now until the new year. No doubt he will be missed by us all.
-
All four US women won their Q/F's.
I can't believe Del Potro beat Federer. Let's hope he now beats Nadal.
-
All four US women won their Q/F's.
Tennis is dead.
-
Good to see, other than the Williams' sisters, 2 black women, Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys, in the final, of a sport, which is very much white dominated.
Stephens, following a foot injury, was out the game for about a year and fell to 934th in the rankings and was still as low as 83rd, when she entered the US Open. So to reach the final is some achievement.
-
Stephens annihilated Keys. Brilliant achievement to win a Slam from nowhere.
-
Rafa wins in 3 sets, I know all H&Vs will be thrilled for him.
-
Great comeback from Nadal this year after all his injuries.
He has certainly taken advantage of injuries top other top players this year.
-
What a twat!
Nick Kyrgios was booed off court at the Shanghai Masters after going through with a threat to quit his match if he lost the first-set tie-break. The Australian lost the tie-break 7-5 to Steve Johnson soon after receiving a warning for smashing two balls out of court in frustration at a line call. He was also given a point penalty for an audible obscenity in the first-round match.
At the same tournament last year he was fined for his behaviour and banned. The 13th seed was heard to say he would quit against Johnson if he lost the tie-break and, after his opponent served an ace on his first set point, Kyrgios walked over to shake hands.[\quote]
-
Djokovic out for rest of year and it looks like Murray will be as well.
-
Bedene switching back to Slovenia as he wants to be able to compete in the Davis Cup and the Olympics. Good luck to him.
