Baker is a big miss
Also grealish probably deserved to keep his place but reasonable to use him from the bench

Westwood...

westwood always amazes me he starts

Hutton I would prefer Bacuna to be honest

and Grealish for me deserves a start but i cant argue with Mr Bruce at the moment , he is the man .

Brave leaving Greealish out after the Cardiff game.  But Bruce definitely deserves to make those calls without much in the way of dissent after the start he's had.

Leeds had a tough match mid week - I'd rather go at then from the off with more creativity while they may be leggy

As others have said, Bruce has the right to make these calls

One day we'll stop being quite so lucky - though we may have used up a lot of our bad luck earlier in the season

We all have said Bruce knows this league and I am sure swapping and changing personnel and formations is part and parcel of it. He must have watched dirty Leeds and thinks 442 is the answer.
Love the fact we have great options from the bench other than centre half.

Elphick worries me every time he plays.

The fact that he changes it up for different opposition and picks unpopular players suggest Bruce has a plan for each game, which is a bit of a novelty for us.

It won't be 442 though - adomah and kodjia on the wings in a 433

Definitely looks 433 to me with Kodija on left. Bruce is definitely a manager with a preference for keeping a squad of players hungry for a realistic place in the team over keeping a balanced team.

Would agree with three in the middle tonight away to Leeds but can't fathom Gestede ahead of Grealish. Bruce will factor that Hutton hasn't done enough to get dropped. A lot of competition for places even on the bench.

There aren't many who would have picked that 11 tonight but it's one built for a scrap. Likely to finish the game with a better side than the one starting.

Grrr...Gardner seems to be anonymous when he is paired with Westwood.
Maybe Bruce is saving Grealish and Bacuna for impact subs , but why start so weak?

Looks like 4-1-4-1 that worked well for Bruce early games...but that was with an energetic duo (Gardner, Bacuna) in front General Jedinak.
Westwood in front of Elphick and Hutton....thats alot of weakness for Mile Jedinak to cover on our right flank.

Maybe he wants to subject Grealish to less than 45 minutes of being kicked around, giving him just enough time to score one, set up two, and get two of the ****** sent off.

Bit of an aimless, Di Matteo-esque performance so far.

Leedzzz are supposedly one of the better teams in this division but they don't look much cop.

Start on the front foot against this kind of muck and you could have the game sewn up by half time.

We need more break aways like that one a few minutes ago to relieve the pressure.  Even that or we need to play a bit of keep ball to deflect things.  Think Grealish and maybe Gabby should get involved second half.  Wonder if Ross might be worth a shot since Kodja is having one of his poorer games.

Thank you sir. Yes the bits I have caught it seems all very agricultural. I wonder if that is in a lot of ways to do with playing Gestede. We need a bit of quality to unlock this game. We seem to playing to Leeds standard and not emphasizing our own strengths which should help separate us from them.

Both chances came from set pieces and they haven't really caused us any problems apart from that.  We've been desperately short of quality going forward though and Gardner and Westwood are so one dimensional.
Title: Re: Leeds United vs Aston Villa Match Thread

We look solid though set pieces are a risk.

The quality of the game is terrible though. We're well away from being able to compete in the premier league

Gardner had our best chance from a FORWARD Westwood pass but his first touch was terrible

Gestede winning a few flick ons but not much else

You can probably tell who I'd fetch off for ayew and grealish before too long

Changing in offing 2nd half .  Leeds awful defemce needs punishing. A bit more pace up front will do trick.  Bruce set up with gesthese and players  high up the pitch and worry if there wide play . When time is right have players on bench will come on hopefully alteady be  a goal up. Anyway expecting the 3 points .
With sure grealish ayew or gabby all cause problems when they enter fray

Indeed though I doubt with all his promotions he's never had such an embarrassment of riches.

For me Bruce has got this wrong. He went in to the game with the approach of stopping them playing. With the confidence in the club growing he should have gone out to win. The mentality was all wrong and we have got deeper and deeper. Let's hope we can scrape a point from this. This will be a poor result if we end up losing.
