"Tonight Mathew, I am going to be Micky Quinn."
-
Liverpool were never that big a draw though - particularly the Danny Murphy iteration. Leeds back in his heyday were doing well, all perspective really. From where I sit, Leeds have got decent support and the media blow smoke up their arseholes for being a great team for a decade forty years ago.
-
I'm pretty sure he would have played at a full VP for most if not all games with Liverpool. To which he might retort that we were only there to see the Redshite.
On the one hand he's saying we don't have waiting lists for season tickets and then that he can't blame us for not turning-up given the shit served-up.
-
i thought he was a quite good footballer, but to get my rise, he'll have to up his anti.
aint he bald and wears jumpers??
-
Only children under the age of twelve should be allowed to talk about "big" or "small" clubs.
-
Perhaps he's just seen his tax bill
To save me watching that jungle shit i had a quick look at attendances 1997 to 2004
Pre 2000 it was 3 crowds of 39 plus which i think was close to capacity as the trinity hadnt been redeveloped
Then it was two of 41.5 and two of 42.5 which just confirms that he is a c***
-
The unit of measurement hasn't been invented yet to quantify how little I care for Danny Murphy's opinion of my football club.
-
I love Bitters. It sounds like he sits on the Brummie Road End.
-
Meaningless rentaquote. Ok player in his day, but dull as ditch water pundit who seems to think he has something to say about Villa, can't think why.
File under Guff.
-
Whatever............

Memory is funny. I always had the impression that the Liverpool games back then weren't the ones you had to make sure you had tickets for well in advance. I had a season ticket in those days though. Didn't even know H&V existed either! When did the forum start?
-
Who?
-
C***!
-
He must be a Geordie thinking crowds are what define a big club. And is about as accurate on crowd figures as a sha fan.
-
Bland, 0% persona tries to say something controversial - usually he is the Fulham of pundits - neutral
Thanks for your opinion Danny, might I mention that every time I hear you summarise a game I appreciate Michael Owen even more zzzzzz
-
What was the Leeds attendance when he played there with Blackburn out of interest.....
Edit: Just found it....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/19377904
That would be the 24k in a 40k ground....
-
I couldn't give a flying fcuk what Danny Murphy thinks. Why does he think anyone is interested in what he has to say it's nearly always irrelevant.
That said. By our current measures we aren't that big. The potential however is very big.
-
Ah the old "big club" debate. I do agree on one thing. Not enough of our fans turn up on match days you can't really argue with that. There was an article in the express last week which showed a league table based on the number of followers on social media (Instagram I think) Newcastle were 8th with 45.000 followers Norwich were 2nd with 66.000 Villa were top with 160.000! Who really knows what makes a big club? Looking at which clubs had their highest attendances for the season v the Villa would be an interesting one at the end of the season.
-
Fail ffs.
-
Our biggest crowd of the season was usually the visit of Liverpool (even more so than Man Utd) unless my memory is playing tricks on me. Murphy doesn't like us, I get that, but to suggest Leeds always sold out and we didn't is just nonsense. We've obviously upset him somewhere along the line and he's holding a grudge. Personally I think he should go and fuck himself.
-
We beat Liverpool in the semi final that might have something to do with it.
-
He's a boring bastard and fishing for bites, saying Leeds are bigger than us is ridiculous. However he does have a point saying VP can be dull. It can be very lifeless, this season has shown that. It's either rocking or silent, there doesn't seem to be any in between. Wolves, Forest, Fulham, Blackburn the atmosphere was dead for most of the game.
-
The thing is what ground would be anything other than lifeless after the 6 years we just had?
-

I agree with that, but under Steve Bruce there are signs for optimism. When we played Fulham we had just come off our first away win for 14 months at Reading, and you could hear a pin drop it was that quiet. Maybe it will take time for the fans to really start believing again. I do think we're guilty of always waiting for the players to lift us though, rather than the other way round.
-
........boring prick
-
And Danny Murphy.
-
His first game against us at Anfield had less than 35K, later the same season he played at VP in front of 39,372 which was our capacity at the time.
-

It's like that at most home grounds you go to. Home fans being quiet is not exclusive to us.
-
He's an ignorant twat, just ignore him.
-
As I have said on another thread sometime ago Murphy is an example of an average footballer who did well to reach the top division.Doesnt have the highest level of education which is obvious when you hear him on the BBC but they employ him for the simple reason that he has played for a club like Liverpool who won a few things. If he had spent most of his career at Fulham and Crewe he would be unheard of in the media.
-
Interesting the match he recalls is the one he scored in, after a slip by Samuel if I recall rather than any amount of limited skill.
We haven't been a big club for years - fair point but we're on the up right now.
Either he's looking to stir stuff up or like a previous poster said holds a grudge probably denying Gerrard his media-induced 'dream final'.
-
Ah
Just googled him, his financial adviser must be a villa fan.
-
I went to a talk by an ex PL referee who is now on the professional assessment panel. On match day they go into the BBC studio to watch the live feed. The MOTD team are next door and at times pop in to ask the refs for clarification. All except Danny Murphy who already knows it all.
-
It's pantomime season....Danny Murphy (who???) as the puppet Pinocchio with Micky Quinn (fat b-stard) as Geppetto. We can see you pulling those strings!
-
I had to laugh, the other Monday, I had TALKSPORT on driving to see my parents and they were doing a section of the show called "the Murphy Masterclass" where he talked about his tactical knowledge of the game!!!
He is a total dick - when Gerard was not offered a new contract at Liverpool, he said it was a disgrace, and they should give him a new deal on £140,000 per week - he seems to think that football clubs are charities.
-
What I will say is considering they don't think we're big or relevant any more, they sure do talk about us a lot. That prat Micky Quinn is always mouthing off about us, Murphy now, other fans always biting and digging about us on Twitter, Albion's official account's first thought after beating Burnley was about...Villa.
We've obviously fallen behind the likes of Man City and Chelsea who most people would say that historically and traditionally we're bigger than. Everton are the same, although they haven't fallen as far as us. Both potentially massive clubs but we've been left behind and overtaken by clubs like Man City, thanks to their investment and new pulling power to attract top players. A lot of it is down to circumstance, if we'd been taken over by Man City's owners we could now be playing in front of 50k+ in the Champions League and be one of the biggest clubs in the country. If they'd been taken over by Lerner they could be where we are now. Not too long ago they were losing 8-1 to Boro!

I also remember him complaining about us not giving Petrov a playing contract in the summer. Apparently we should have given him a contract "based on sentiment". I think those were more or less his exact words.
The man is a clown.

Couldn't of put it better myself lol.

Boom!
-
Footballers are mostly idiots and who care what he think and his word is not final just because he play for Liverpool/Spurs. I am more interested in 95% current/ex villa players or players with great respect for the club. I would rather listen to Robbie Savage than this idiot ;)
-
Former England international reduced to eking out a living as a Robbie Savage tribute act. Sad. Can somebody out of charity give him a proper job?
-
Some of you are being a bit harsh. Any second rate ex-footballer, untrained in journalism, that prostitutes himself around all available media platforms to earn as many shillings as he can, pontificating on the shortcomings of a player making a bad pass, missing a goal chance or mistiming a tackle all with the benefit of millions of pounds worth of cutting edge digital equipment, that based on his business decisions is obviously thick as pig shit, is entitled to his opinion.

We need drums and an eagle and music after the goals and clappy-hand things and... Oh just f*** off you dull little man
-
I wonder how many footballers pundit are actually trained in journalism and qualified for the job.
-
He looks like Brain off Pinky and the Brain.
Also, his mom smells of shit
-
And trained journalists are any better? Look at that Baggies C--t
-
If atmosphere is what dictates the size of a club I assume Arsenal are a nothing team then?
-
Easy comeback to anyone who questions the size of Aston Villa, "What's your record attendance?" Pretty sure we're fourth in the list. (Not counting spuds at Wembley)

Aaaaaand breathe...
Fuck him and his irrelevant, biased and dimwitted opinions.
The best stat on this subject was on here earlier. Someone pulled this blinder out of the bag " his first game against Villa at Anfield had a crowd of 34,000. His first game against Villa at Villa Park had a crowd of 39,000" - a full house at that time. Nails it for me.

Danny Murphy what a Twat.

As ever Darren succinctly reminds us that brevity is often the best method in these scenarios.

Danny Murphy can fuck off. The bald headed, boring, shit for brains.
-
Savage-imitator. A new low.
-
I think there is a game afoot amongst these talkshite lowlife... who can wind up Villa fans the most. If you listen to someone like Adrian Durham it drips out of his pores.

Spot on. Just go to Liverpool and you'll hear that once they've sang that You'll Never Walk Alone dirge the place goes to sleep till they score a goal. Practically every club's the same, and it's left to the away fans to create an atmosphere and bring the home fans to life.
-
A few years back I'd get really worked up about this.
Now I think, yeah, there's probably some truth in that.

Yes, Durham is the last of their shitehawks to call out over us, he talks us up.

Our owner is a star! What a fucking reply :) "I only know 2Murphys. One is the famous Hollywood comedian &the other is our future star @Rushcmpt . But footballers r not living by mouth."
-
I have to say, I'm absolutely thrilled at his fuck you attitude towards know nothing's taking cheap digs at us.
It may all end in tears I know, but with what with had to put up with it feels bloody cathartic.
Fuck the fuckers. We should put it on the badge.

5) The Irish joke Murphy
99,999) Former footballer Danny Murphy.
Like most of the Murphys, I'm not bitter.
-
Kodjia has tweeted aimed at Murphy "Ready for tomorrow? Let's show him who are the best supporters in the country!"

You only have to have gone to Old Trafford when they were winning everything in sight and it was very quiet.
-
So is he basing his idea of a "big club" on how many people showed up to games in order to watch his fairly average Liverpool team? So history, quality of the stadium/facilities, quality of players past and present etc are irrelevant, and because he doesn't think that we sold out the ground to watch what was a pretty unspectacular Liverpool team, then Villa are small time.
What a fucking idiot.
-
Attendances at home to Liverpool during his time with them. Someone is telling porkies aren't they Danny "but I never played at a full Villa (Park)" Murphy.

41,366
42,602
41,183
42,573

Someone should put that on the thick planks Facebook.

To be fair, he didn't play at a full Villa Park when he was jobbing for shit clubs like Blackburn and Fulham, with their own shit followings turning up in a minibus, long after the bugger clubs realised he wasn't much of a player.

A few years back I'd get really worked up about this.
Now I think, yeah, there's probably some truth in that.
My thoughts as well.
-
Me too. Though don't think it was so true when he was a younger player
Of course it would be a good response to get a good turnout and great atmosphere today. Though chilly autumn days against low key opposition sometimes don't make for that at Villa park
-
Well I always thought he was one of the better pundits on the BBC and everyone is entitled to an opinion but this seems to me more of a grudge. Slightly strange comments regarding atmosphere and attendances during his Liverpool days. I get the feeling he just doesn't like us. Who cares though, really?
-
I think he has a point about us at Villa Park in the sense that traditionally we have had better form away from home and a lot of teams do enjoy playing at VP. Often if we don't get ahead after 25-30 mins or are struggling to kill a game off then the atmosphere gets a bit edgy. But I think to question us as a big club because of that is over the top. I still love VP as a ground and on the right night/day and for the right match then you still get a cracking atmosphere there.
I'm pretty sure when he played there for Liverpool than it would have been pretty close to being full. Even over the last 5-6 years we have avenged about 35'000 for home games. For a struggling side that sounds good to me.
-
Good response from Bruce today after the game regarding Murphys comments.

I have new decking machine and can't copy the thing, old git that I am, but said that if Villa Park is a dull ground, he has been to many VERY dull grounds.

He is on MOTD tonight. I really have had to have my swan vestas to hand to keep myself awake.

nice one,
poor little boy lost, whats the matter with him, did we reject him or something. oh well I'm over it.
-
Rather ironic that the MOTD commentator at Anfield reffered to the muted atmosphere a number of times and they showed Klopp, looking rather angry, urging the crowd to make more noise.
-
I was listening to talk sport when he said this stuff (yes I'm one of the very few on here who admit to listening to TS)
I didn't agree with his comments but they were all very throw away and he wasn't being particularly disrespectful I didn't feel,
he obviously hasn't got a soft spot for VP as a number of other players have that have played there,
I still think he's a decent pundit
-

Like all the other pundits I'm afraid, easy money for trotting out the same old irritating cliques to cover every eventuality No need for any of them to turn up at all really, just cut and paste (insert here) - getting his shot off, ran the show, not closing down, ...zzzzzzzzzzz
