Title: Bobby Campbell
Post by: Villafirst on November 15, 2016, 07:18:09 PM
Sadly passed away aged 60. He played about 10 games for Villa in the mid-seventies scoring 1 goal. He had much greater success with Bradford scoring a lot of goals and a bit of a legend for them. RIP.

Liked him when he broke through into the first team, but I believe he upset Saunders by puking up at a meal in front of Ron's wife (so the story goes) and then it was a matter of time before he was gone. I am sure that more informed people can either confirm or deny the above, it would be interesting to know what the truth was about his departure.

Well remember in Saunders first season in charge young Bobby Campbell was used up front with Sammy Morgan and they were both prominent in a 3-0 League Cup Replay win over Everton at Goodison. He was a good goalscorer in the lower leagues notably with Bradford, 60 is way too young. RIP Bobby.

Sad to hear this news. I saw the goal he scored against Forest in Vic Crowe's last home game in charge.

I understand that as a young player, he was a heavy drinker. Whether this continued through his career, I have no idea.

I must admit I'd forgotten about him until he was mentioned on Villa Players Hit or Miss over on "off topic"

I remembered him once his name was mentioned, a strong centre forward, who obviously went on to do well at Bradford.

60 is no age these days - very sad to hear this news.
