I don't think we'll lose, we have the new manager bounce and a guy in the dugout who knows what hes doing. 1-1 or 2-1 Villa.

I found a signed photo of a very young Johnny Vincent in an old football annual the other day.

I wonder how much it's worth ?

Timing is key and we're going to this on the up whereas they are on a bit of a down.  Despite their decent start, I still think they're a mid table side and there isn't much to fear.  A win on Sunday could be a real kickstart for us.

If we want to go up we need to beat teams like blues. To my mind as a child of the 90s they think a lot more about us than them.

I hope in Bruce we have a relatively functional manager and should get a point at least. With our bench and depth we should expect more. Hell. Sherwood beat em

Judging by the sheer volume of crap they are posting all over Facebook etc i think they are really fired up for their cup-final, we, on the other hand, are virtually silent on it - and i think that says a lot about the mentalities of both sets of supporters.

2-1, Kodja and Gardner. My prediction for Fulham was spot on...

I think we'll win 1-0 in an uncomfortable affair.

Kodjia will put us in the lead at some point in the second half, followed by us absolutely riding our luck defensively and somehow coming away unscathed (similar to the Wolves second half).

I too have a gut feeling that Gardner will score (im predicting one of his 30 yarders finally finds the net) - even put £10 on him to score

I think we will nick it 1-0 or 2-1 if we play like we did second half v Fulham.

Neither team will play well and the new manager bounce, small amount of momentum we have and the SB factor will give us the edge.

I was at said game. I remember being ambushed by a load of bat weilding thugs flying out of a pub wearing balaclavas.

As mentioned, it just gives them a chance to mob up on the sitting ducks, rather than just being able to mingle and make your way home peacefully, like the vast majority in attendance (on both sides) want to do.

Birmingham City v Aston Villa: Police bid to ease tension among rival fans during derby clash

Strict searches and away supporters held back at the final whistle are among measures aimed at easing flash-points at this weekend's derby between Aston Villa and Birmingham City.

PUBLISHED: October 26, 2016 11:40 am LAST UPDATED: October 26, 2016 11:43 am

Police today warned fans to behave as they move to diffuse tension ahead of the highly-charged second city derby on Sunday.

West Midlands Police pleaded with fans to make the match, being held at St Andrews, a trouble-free occasion.

It is the first time that the eagerly-awaited game has been held at the home of Birmingham City in the league for more than five years.

A visible police presence will be in place in and around the ground as part of policing plans to ensure the safety of the public.

The force said, following consultation with fans, away supporters will be held back in the ground for a brief period after the final whistle to assist the flow of people leaving the stadium.

Match commander Chief Inspector Nick Rowe said: “It will be great to see two sets of passionate fans come along and enjoy the spectacle - and atmosphere - of a local derby.

“This is a great occasion and our role is to ensure a safe event for everyone who attends the game.

“The vast majority of supporters are well-behaved but there may be some who see the fixture as an excuse to cause trouble.

“We will not tolerate crime or violence which is connected to football. Anyone who is arrested for football-related matters may face the risk of a banning order which will prevent them from attending future fixtures.”

There will be a police and club search operation at the turnstiles including police sniffer dogs being deployed to ensure pyrotechnic devices such as flares and smoke bombs are not taken into the ground.

That was 2007-08.

2010 was our sixth straight win, via a late Milner penalty. Stephen Carr earned himself a place in the Bordesley Hall of Fame by swearing at the Holte End after yet another defeat.

The previous two wins in the sequence were away victories at Portsmouth and Hull.

I hate these games. If we're told we would win 100 games out of a hundred I would still rather not play them. Just in case the cheated and got a draw.

Rarely do we get games where we can play football and leave them behind. Only time we did it was when they had the clown McCliesh as manager and we deserved to tonk them 5-1. We then chose the clown as our manager (still cannot get my head around that)
I really think Bruce will have them up for this

Last time I went to St Andrews it was a Simod Cup match and we stuffed them, got a feeling we could hand them a similar hiding this time.

0-6 Baker, RM, Kodjia and a hattrick from Gestede with all 6 goals assisted by MON Gary Gardner. Cue Bruce celebrated by pulling a moonie at the Blues fans.

"in front of a crowd of almost 28 thousand!" Wow.

Love watching footage of old games that I was at. If I close my eyes I can remember exactly where I was standing when Thommo headed in the winner. It was a great day. It also brings back memories of just what a complete dump the Sty was back then, and I haven't forgotten dodging the piss pouring down the terraces either. A rotten ground for a rotten club.

Yep. 30th March 1970. I was 18 days old, first game we won after I was born.

I'm sure that was the time when there was only about two turnstiles open for us to get in. Bloody scary. I can remember feeling like all the air was being sucked out of my body in the crush with police on horses forcing us forward.

I finally got into the ground and rounded on a steward next to those bloody awful open air toilets telling him they needed to tell someone to do something as someone was going to get really hurt. Luckily my mate pulled me off him as I was so irate I would have got nicked, something I'm not very proud of but couldn't help after what I'd just seen.

I still can't believe there were no injuries that day. Such poor policing and non existing stewarding. Every time I see a reference to Hillborough I think of that day.

I can remember the win but that day is tainted by what could have been.

The piss pouring down the terraces was actually at a friendly in 95 under Little to commemorate the opening of the new Kop and Tilton. Absolutely flooding through the ceiling of one of the exits under the upper Railway.

With all the misery and let downs we have had to endure for the last few years, very occasional false hopes soon to be dashed, it's hard to confidently predict that a positive run will continue- but that is precisely what i think will happen. We have good vibes about us, it feels like we have a bit of luck with us at the moment, and we haven't even started to play well yet! I'm going for 3-1 Villa- the day we arrive and show we are serious, and this might not just be a new manager honeymoon type thing.

Mind you that's how it felt with Sherwood for a while there 😬

ps Actually, the original pedant-fail is the sort of thing that Stuart 'Psycho' Pearce might come out with: i.e. "I tell ya what fella, there's certainly more glamourable cup ties today - but that might be one for the pedantics, if ya like..."

Must have got it muddled up with the other game, I would have been at both but wasn't as old or fuzzy headed as I am now. Still think we might get a nice big win though.

The match - Bruce will have the players pumped up like being on Jack's stuff.  A  win is a must and will happen.

Everything about Small heath is small and petty.  They could win the world cup and still not be bigger than  the Villa.

As for the rivalry  to the club (not the fans) Tescos is the biggest rivalry - this probably pisses them off as well.  Anything that pisses  Bloose  off is good in my book.

I can't decide whether i'd start with Tshibola in the midfield making a 4 man midfield and over-running theirs like Burton did or start with Uncle Albert. The problem with starting with Adomah though is that you've not got anyone like him to come off the bench for the last 25 mins when they start to tire at the back. Maybe a compromise and start McCormack and have him sitting just in front of the midfield three. I reckon he'll go with Gestede though.

Ha ha, yes, the ball went through a hole in their net. It really was a dump back then. I hate the stereotype of them being the scruffy poor club and us looking down our nose at them but they don't do themselves any favours sometimes. If the flat, peaky blinders inspired cap fits...

Another example of my generally superior attitude towards them: We got in early and there were a handful of skinheads facing us on their terrace who had a big sign expressing their plan to 'sh*t on the Villa'. Admittedly they were a bit intimidating but my main thought was 'do people still dress like that?'. It was 1987, football fashion was important so they looked totally ridiculous and '1980' to someone like me in my lemon lacoste cardigan and bright red Kickers shoes.

Serious Q - will Bruce get a bad reception? I know they have a higher number than average of morons but surely they'll see that he did a good job for them.

One I know at work, season ticket holder and a decent lad, thinks he will get a lot of stick but not from everyone.

At a guess, most will acknowledge what he achieved there, but still give him grief. Some will think he's a traitor and hate him

West Midlands Police is encouraging Birmingham City and Aston Villa supporters to enjoy derby day and ensure it remains trouble-free this Sunday (30 October).

The eagerly-awaited game at St Andrews is the first league fixture between the clubs for more than five years.

A visible police presence will be in place in and around the ground as part of policing plans to ensure the safety of the public.

Officers have worked with both Birmingham City and Aston Villa in preparation for the fixture as well as speaking to representatives of supporter groups.

Following consultation with fans; away supporters will be held back in the ground for a brief period after the final whistle to assist the flow of people leaving the stadium.

As much as I don't like starting Gestede I'd keep him in for this one as he has a ridiculous scoring record v SHA.

It will be imporant to have a physical presence aswell as I reckon they'll set out to kick us and see how we react. I too might have Adomah as sub as he's had a knock recently so they'd probably test that early on.

We need to get at their left...I see Robinson is in line to start for them at left back as their regular is suspended...he must be about 50 now?!

1-1, they'll get a jammy late goal after we miss a hatful of chances at 1 up.

Just read it myself. They're saying about how we're arrogant and feel we should be beating everyone and top of the premiership. I've never actually thought that, although theres certain teams I expect to beat (blues and albion being some of them) I don't see us having to win the premier league. Must have got it muddled up with the other game, I would have been at both but wasn't as old or fuzzy headed as I am now. Still think we might get a nice big win though.

"Oh here's one of them'

Me - "Getting ready for your cup final then"?

"When was the last time you was in a cup final"

Me - "Last year, against Arsenal"

"You didn't win though did you and we beat Arsenal in our last one"

Me - "You asked me when was the last time we were in a cup final. So how was it when you won? It's a while ago now isn't it?

"I didn't goo"

Me - "You do surprise me. Are you going next week"?

"No, can't get a ticket"

Me - "You haven't sold out yet"

Oh, i'll watch it down here"

Thick twats, I hope we batter them.

I've just been out training with my U12's and invited an FA guy to come along and help out because of his vast experience.

Turns out he's a Bluenose! To be fair, he's a good lad and we had a long chat about things - he said he'd take a draw now and said they're much more fearful of us now we have SB in charge.

He had a couple of little digs during the session (my lad had his Villa shirt on) - I countered at the end when he said to the boys he also scouted for Blues by saying it didn't matter how bad they'd played tonight, they'd probably still get a trial for a club like that!

We were completely outplayed that day, worse than the 0-2 the year before. That night the pressure got to our players and the sendings off turned it. The 1-2 in 2004 though was piss poor. Even when we scored late on to make it 1-2 nobody believed we'd get anything, we were garbage that day.

The worst home game against them for me is still the 2-2 though. Still get shudders about that Stern John goal and I'll never forget the collective gasp from the Holte (well the few thousand of us in there, there were at least 10,000 noses in there of course) when the ball fell to him.

We're all glory hunter, followed up later with we haven't won anything for  20 years.
They are all salt of the Brummies (from places like Rubery, Redditch and Solihull), we all live in the Cotswolds. They never explain though how a city that is blue is the 14th best supported in the second division.
They are all dead hard and we are all scared of them.
They go on The Holte and home stands at VP in their thousands and make lots of noise there. Despite no one ever seeing or hearing them.
We're jealous that they have Birmingham in their name.
KRO is the bestest anthem ever and we only say Veela.
We are all arrogant for thinking we should beat them. When we do beat them it's because we spent more money.

It's the same kind of shit they've been peddling for decades in an effort to convince each other that they aren't a nothing club that has spent half its history in the lower leagues and can't even sell 23000 tickets for a derby game.

the comedy gold is literally a full page post saying we are obsessed with them

oh and the fact they regularly sit in the holte and celebrate wildly

They haven't won at Villa Park since 2003 so god knows what it is they sit there celebrating.

Wasn't it 2004 when they won 2 1 they last won at VP? That game was awful, felt like we'd lost before a ball was kicked.

I'd forgotten about that one. In fact I still can't remember anything about it now.

Sorensen threw the ball in for the first and Heskey ran right upfront all game...can't even remember who actually scored for us. The return at SHA that season was equally as depressing.

They did have a mental hold over us in those times but luckily they sold Savage and that evaporated over the next few seasons.

Savage made his living by being a wind up merchant and would have possibly done a job on the likes of Ayew. That said, he is a class above any of their mob and I really hunk we have the team to beat them. Who is going to be bullied from our side? I can't think of any tbh. Who is going to be wound up is a different matter and we need to keep cool heads

Well said, and let's not forget that the hardest fans in the world travel the three miles to VP on coaches.

Funnily enough they take the piss out of us taking 2 to 3 coaches yet I've seen 20 of theirs to VP in the past. Talk of selective memory....

No club ever brings more coaches than the Noses. The club put them on too.

Surprises me given how dead hard those big bad Zulus are, as to why they'd need 40 coaches to dodge the Sutton bobble hat wearers.

This game where Sorenson made the mistake was at the Sty though not VP.

He fucked up in both games, the one at Villa Park was probably the worst of the two.

Both were the pretty similar, both shots were soft, one slipped through his arms and body and the other slipped under him. Those two games were the worst we ever played against them.

Never forgave Sorenson for those errors.

He said what a thoroughly unpleasant individual he was and he almost took his face off for the first goal... Great day that was.... More of the same Sunday please! Up the Villa.

Other than the trivial matter of bragging rights, this is an important test for us. If we go a goal down do we capitulate as we have done or do we have the fight to keep going. A good result will add to the momentum and be huge confidence boost.

My biggest concern is Mike Dean, the most arrogant referee since David Ellerey.

I am pretty confident too, but there is just this gnawing feeling that if you look at our probable line up, there is the possibility of mistakes in quite a few of them.  Gollini, Hutton, Baker, Cissokho /Ayew and Bacuna don't exactly inspire confidence.  If we defend well and keep a clean sheet, we'll win this as I can definitely see us scoring.

It's only blues and we should beat them, but we generally get dragged down to their level. I don't expect anything different this time, but would love to be surprised.

Genuinely surprised they haven't sold out, if true. There's likely to be more than a few villa fans in home areas if that's the case.

There'll be a few dozen Villa in the home ends, same as there'll be a few dozen of them in the home ends at VP. Always is for derby games. And pretty much to a man, or woman, they won't say a peep regardless of what the score is. Isn't it maxed at 23k ?

For them, plus our 2K.

I'm just chuckling at the thought of Peter Withe having a conversation with his shin.

Sorry, as you were.

I'll be cheering from the pub sadly. We can do these fuckers.
Betting head says 1-1 claret & blue heart says 3-1 villa. Ayew  & Kodjia 2.
#apparently they have 19 people with collection buckets around the ground for "jack" the yoing villa fan who recently passed away. Fair play to them. Credit where it's due.

Stan is on Sky sports 1 at the moment. He's not happy with RDM and I can't say I blame him. Bit off topic but I think Stan is worth it.

4-3-3. Ayew, Adomah and the Codge. So much quality!

Massively disappointed Gabby is on the bench.

I wonder whether Bacuna has took a knock - given his ability to play in different positions, I don't think it'd make sense for him not to be on the bench otherwise.
