The club says that shirt sales are up 214% from this time last year. £8,600 when Sherwood was in charge, now £20,970. Its a new shirt and costs may be different, but is this a real sign that villa Fans are feeling more confident this year?
-
I'm confident every summer. It soon wears off though.
-
172 shirt sales this time last year vs 419 shirts sales this year, at roughly 50 quid a pop?
Not sure that's a barometer of happiness.

You must admit it is a strange amount of enthusiasm given the circumstances.
-
It's more a testament to the fact that the ownership of the club has changed and for the first time in ages people are starting to feel a little more positive about how things will play out. Also that despite being in a lower tier fans might be just happier at the prospect of what might be a much better season. Winning brings happiness and the thought of not being whipping boys is cause for some degree of celebration.
-
Nope I am still angry and pissed off.
-
I'd put the increase in sales simply down to the fact that its not made by Macron.
-
I irrationally blame macron for our decline.
-
If we're talking shirt sales (which just so happens to be the basis of this thread) then the manufacturer of the previous kits does have a direct impact upon sales. If the new kit had been made by Nike or Adidas then it would be higher than the current Under Armour sales. It's really not a hard concept to understand.

The Under Armour stuff is much better than any of the Nike stuff we had.

I spent £45 on a Macron home shirt. After about 3-4months the toilet decals starting coming off the arms making it unwearable for anything other than 5 a side. After that I was through with them
-
Unless it was a signifcant inclease not sure you can place too much value on shirt sales. And figures can always be misleading.
I'd say I'm more happy at the moment because the Championship does offer something fresh and I won't miss our games being non-events every week. Also, we don't really have any star players to worry about losing this time either. RDM feels like an upgrade from Sherwood. WIthout being over the moon I'd say I'm more positive yes.
-
This fan won't be happy until we are promoted - sod the shirts!
-
The issue with me became not happiness but anger. Last season made me very angry. Now that Lerner has gone and the worst contributors to last year's horror show appear to be going my anger is subsiding. Happiness if it is to come at all is further down the line.
-
the first two home games and boxing day are a sobering thought
ill be happy when we start ripping teams new arseholes and get promoted at the first attempt
-
There's a lot less stress about the place now that the season is over. It took a toll on everyone. We are where we are and it's accepted now. It's matter of getting on with it and getting promoted now. Let's make light work of this division by being precisely the opposite of what we were last season and work our balls off collectively. We can do it if the whole club is pulling in one direction.

The worst contributors are still there Brian. What makes you think they appear to be going? Richards may find another club but my money is on
all the others being in situ at the start of the new season......especially Flatty Agbonlahor.
-
Happier, no as we are a division down. But, more hope.
-
Ask me again in May.
-
Happier as in not stressed, the worst case scenario has happened & Lerner has gone, we can finally move forward
-
I'm happier, I feel like there is some hope of long term progression even if it requires an initial step backwards.
-
I am happier because we seem to have bottomed out. I say that without a ball being kicked yet this coming season, but, even if we don't get back up at the first attempt, we seem to be on better foundations now with this owner and management team. I back us for at least the play off's with the squad that we currently have. Bring in another striker and I think we might just get back up.
-
There isn't the portentous feeling of dread this close season, just the acknowledgement that the hole we've dug for ourselves will take some getting out of. I'm reasonably happy the club understands this.
-
The ownership uncertainty has been lifted.
The management situation has been settled for now.
We know where we are even if it is not where we want to be.
The decisions and comments by RDM, so far lead to some cautious optimism.
I am sure this can all change though.
-
I irrationally blame macron for our decline.
I had the same feeling about Henson thirty years ago.
-
I don't know that I am happier but, rather like a marriage that hits the rocks, the trial separation over the summer leaves me feeling better disposed towards them than my wanting to walk out on them every other week as I did previously.
I have stopped being angry. And it was the very worst kind of anger where blood would boil at the very mention of them.
Start winning some games. Put some effort in. Score some goals. Then I might be happy.

Kermit is a bell end too.

If we are talking about Jim Henson, as a Bowie fan I never thought Labyrynth was his finest moment.

Feel a bit like Cheltenhamlion but I've not renewed the season ticket in the Lower Holte which I've had (same seat) since that stand was built. Prior to that I did a year in the Lower Witton Lane and before that lots of years as a standing season ticket holder in the Holte.
The anger has gone but the interest is going too. Optimistic stories coming out of VP just make me feel cynical now. I'll believe it if it happens.
-
I irrationally blame macron for our decline.
I think there is something in that.
-
Not happier for me. I can recall my perspective this time last year. I was happy that we were still in the PL and had a degree of confidence that Sherwood would turn things around and that mid table beckoned.
This year is the crystallisation of our worst fears. Lots of talk about bouncing back up but with many of last seasons feckless losers still with us, it could be more of the same. But that as I write, there are still a few weeks to go.
-
Difficult to be "happier" after relegation but Lerner is gone which is a move that was badly needed. A bit early to judge the new owners ATM but at least they're communicating. Overall I think we are making changes that that will see Villa "ready to rise again". The question is will we make all the changes that are required before the end of the transfer window. Is there any more news on whether that guy is coming from Southampton (Andrew Stone I believe)? That would be a good move.
-
I'm certainly confident that we have at least arrested the decline. I know a ball hasn't been kicked in anger yet but RDM appears to be quietly going about his business at the moment. WM (I know) were reporting from the training camp earlier and they were very upbeat, comparing the focus and professionalism and the whole atmosphere very favourably with Portigal last summer.

There's actually a lot less stress now the last five years is over!

I do as well. They were a symbol of rather than cause. I think I've said before that I went into the Nike shop on Oxford St just to see our shirt, and there they were along with Arsenal and Barcelona. It was quite surreal.
The change to Macron was a recognition that we weren't and never would be worth the floor space. Nike weren't going to be flogging kits to the fickle fat kids of London.
-
But I'm happy enough. I'm planning on getting to some local games, and I've pencilled in Fulham away as junior's first game next April.

I've just booked dining arrangements for Easter Monday. Literally. I'm fervently hoping this is the highlight of my Division Two years (part n).
-
That's very organised. I can't see beyond those hot dogs they do there.
I'm actually getting really excited about it. Sod the Premier League.
-
looks like we are not that much happier, but prepared to give it a try. I like Matteo's approach and the use of youngsters in the two games yesterday was excellent. And having two games on the same day to watch more players.... yes, good thinking.
WHile pre season games against non league mean nothing, we won and the habit may start catching. Grealish and Rushian Hepburn Murphy both scored, will do their confidence the world of good.
Can anyone think of a short nickname for Rushian Hepburn Murphy? Spoken of well by Daniel Sturridge who knows the family and one for the future. But I can't keep typing three names, Jack the Lad perhaps for Grealish but for Rushian? ANy ideas?

Audrey or The Russian could work.

Spud!

Confirmation today that LTA isn't any happier, but we knew that would be the case.

Audrey was my first thought but for some reason the name Murphy makes me think of 'Spud' and I have no idea why. Was there a Spud Murphy or is it just a lazy Irish/potato link?

if those plebs can have JT for John Terry we can have RHM for this lad

There was. American jazz bandleader/composer.

How long before Sherwood claims the credit for Hepburn-Murphy then?

That's a guarantee. He'll have an unearthed him. Apparently he's responsible for Kane too. I don't know if that news has broken yet.

Not been blown away by our business this year, outgoing or ingoing.
And whilst it's nice to see fixtures against the likes of Wednesday and Forest again, seeing bilge like Barnsley, B-lose and co in amongst that lot tempers any nostalgia.
The players we've signed so far seem about par for what we could realistically expect in this division. They're the type of players I would have expected us to go after even if we still had Lerner, his limitations and his choice of manager.
They might go on to be good, solid purchases for the level we're at. But with a manager like Di Matteo and supposedly having a budget of £30-40 million, I'll be honest, I would have hoped for better. There is still time, of course, so might be better to make that call in September.
Whilst it's to be expected that players like Ayew and co will attract interest, we need to keep as many of those as possible. They're better than just about anything else in this division. If we are serious about getting back up -and then staying up- they are the type of players we need to build a side around.
-
kGage, I think it is a bit early to tell.
Until we start to see some of the deadwood removed I think new additions are unlikely.
The squad looks too big with too many not good and or not commited enough.
I am more concerned about the lack of a clear out.
-
Hep B Murphy?
-
Thing is though, we've got 3 new signings in, plus possibly Petrov. We also have Amavi back after a lengthy lay off, Gardner back from loan and Hepburn Murphy could have an impact as well. Remember we have dropped down a division, some of those that were a bit cack last season might be a lot better this, Hutton, Westwood and Gestede Spring to mind. If the club is run correctly, the team managed properly and we get rid of Richards and Gabby I think we'll have a chance. A couple of good new defenders in addition and I think we'd be in a very strong position to come back up.
-
According to Radio 5 we.ve had a £10m bid turned down for Ross McCormack....i think for championship he'd make me happy.
-
I rather like the above "the Russian" idea. Shrug.

Would be such an unimaginative signing, £10m for a 30-year-old just because he's got a track record at this level, Gestede has too but I think we've been robbed paying £6m for him.
