The iconic - 'Thunderclap' celebration' that is ...celebrated by Iceland has been embraced by other nations fans and players alike during the Euros.
Having seen the Wales NT as one example who today celebrating again with the thunderclap and really creating an atmosphere.
Undoubtedly it will be seen around many grounds In Europe this coming season.
My simple question is a yes or no.
Are we Aston Villa to adopt and celebrate the ThunderClap?
I'm in for the clap!
It would add alot to the villa support to players. And hope this takes off to support our team.
Rapport can be built with our players after our victorious matches they can start the clap with us the fans and really get a great atmosphere.
Polling open..
-
Hey man, if you want the clap Villa Park isn't the place.
-
Let Leicester kill it with their plastic thunderclappy things.
-
Surely a good dose of antibiotics will cure this
-
Not on your life. The Prem will be awash with this utter shit. Teams who play celebratory music after each goal and hand out hand clappers are welcome to it.
Seriously, if we even try it, I'm walking out.
-
I will stick to the traditional supportive chants when things are going well and inflatable sex dolls when things go badly.
As god intended.
-
My toes are curling as I type,..
-
Yeah, all the best songs and chants are the ones that have just been lazily copied from somebody else.
Edit - for clarity the above was a response to the general concept rather than at SV's post directly above.
-
Okay. I've changed my mind. Let's all slowly clap in unison like a bunch of twats.
-
Just no
-
I'm really hoping we can come up with several more versions of songs based on Achey Breaky Heart.
-
I'm currently trying to create a chant based on Hocus Pocus by Focus.
-
We've got to get together sooner or later, 'cos the revolution's here, and you know that it's right.
So count me in.
Thunderclap.
-
I'm not one to break with tradition, so I'll be sat arms folded, muttering to myself with a look of pained despair in my eyes as always.
-
It's a 'no' from me.
-
The Thundercunts at the Vomitorium will be the type who use the Thunderclap.

I've spotted a flaw in the plan.
-
I can see us getting sick of hearing that Iceland chant very quickly.
-
I think Iceland nicked it off Motherwell anyway.

Why would a moth in ER be well?

Why would a moth in ER be well?
I was considering opening another bottle but that's killed it dead. Goodnight. :)

That's a first. My jokes usually drive people to drink.
-
Come on its far preferable to the Poznan. And I draw the line at vuvuzelas!
If folk start doing the ThunderClap all join in. Ooooh!
-
Only if I can boo at the same time.
-
The mongrels down the road were talking about adopting it when it was first used and substituting blose instead of the ooo in the middle. Not sure it will sound the same with 10000 doing it spread round the ground
-
See my above Post
-
As bantztastic as it sounds, id prefer that we made our own chants thanks
-
Nope just leave it to the Icelanders
-
Can I vote no twice?
-
Sounds like a great idea, lets combine it with the Poznan and sing you'll never walk alone.
Nothing like a bit of originality to create a unique atmosphere....
-
Only if it is just Gabby Bacuna Richards, instead of ooo we shout c@&:s
-
No,no and thrice no.
In fact, if it does make an appearance at Villa Park I will make a determined effort to clap in between the 'official' clap. So there
-
Please God, No
-
It was very effective done by the Icelandics at the Euros ... and has become associated so strongly with them that it would seem like a parody done elsewhere.
A bit like Sppppuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrs and the Stokies nicking Sourhampton's Saints song; it just ain't right.
-
I think Thundercnuts might become my new favourite insult
-
Hell no. I'd rather do the Birdie Song.
-
I promise to Thunderclap anyone that attempts this within reach of me at Villa Park.
-
Well this is interesting not many are up for it . I guessing it's because of the unoriginal rather than not liking the big thunder clap. It's really quite something in unionism.
Also I like the idea of the crowd chanting the surname of players when line up announced before kick off. Also do this when pa announces goal scorer like they do at Bayern Munich and Dortmund. Arsenal do a bit of this and I think villa now being a global European club it would go well. The announcing of players surnames is great fun.
I find it far better than the pantomine cheer / jeer after players full name announced.
So a rousing chant of players surname after goals and also line up announcements should be another introduction to our new era !

That kind of thing is great if you're 10.

-
Did you see the Welsh players and fans trying to do the Clap thingy yesterday. Embarrassing mess
The clap is great when done by Iceland but the efforts I've seen/heard by other sets of supporters have been terrible.
-
I've heard from people who've experienced the Thunderclap that it is best avoided.
-
Yes, let's do this accompanied by a vuvuzela orchestra.
-
Strikingly original in June: copied everywhere and done to death in orchestrated attempts to create an "atmosphere" by the end of September.
-
Get ready to cringe, and curl up in your seat

That's rubbish ! I think you're being grossly unfair.
It was very good and looked great spirits both welsh fans and players as was when France embraced too.
Look at this ! Could this sort of clapping support please be embraced by you at the villa?
https://youtu.be/WpuQrzLFfJg
-
What we will need is a new man to lead it.
Andy!
-
And a drum to beat it!
-
I hope it catches on. I love footie banter. We can start doing that "Oo ar ya" at the away fans when we score and open our arms wide when the opposition miss as well. It'll be great for atmosphere.
-
Get ready to cringe, and curl up in your seat
Almost as cringey as the Leadsom supporters chanting:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/07/07/mps-shout-awkward-chant-for-andrea-leadsom/
-
His voice nearly breaks during that.
-
No thank you.
-
I've always thought the playing of "You'll Never Walk Alone" pre match helps create a superb atmosphere at Anfield, we could give that a go and then maybe the players could perform the haka to really get the atmosphere fired up.
-
No thanks. No doubt we will see it at some grounds though.
-
I thought it was great for the Iceland team.
It will die a death just like the voovoo whatsits from South Africa.
I'm pretty sure it will be flavour of the month for the pundits, though.
-
No. It's cuntish.
-
No. Leave it to Norwich and the other tosspots in the league.
-
I think we could do like the Bundesliga when we score - but the problem would be that we would have so little practice.
Being in the crowd like that is actually fun! (sorry the "we should do as we always do"-crowd)
-
No. Leave it to Norwich and the other tosspots in the league.
I reckon Man City will nick it like that did that Poznan thing.
-
Or maybe we could do it all ironic-like and chant 'food' at Gabby.
-
I like it when Iceland do it but I think copying it is cringeworthy and I'd be truly disappointed if any Villa fan were to consider adopting it. It'd be like when Bolo Zenden tried to copy Asamoah Gyan when he was doing his weird little stampy dance after scoring at Chelsea a few years back.
-
Rattles and Rosettes for me.
-

Just shows how people forget origins of songs- "You'll Never Walk alone " this from the musical Carousel was first sung by the Blues at St Andrews .... Hijacked by Scousers and believed by all to be their copyright, just like like us singing " Always look on the bright side of life" by Monty Python , hijacked by Mancs . Sing anything often enough and loud enough and it soon becomes yours
-
Where did I make any mention of the origin of the song? Thanks for the history lesson but there really wasn't any need!
-
I'm just gonna sing "Gabby's on a diet. Your defence is terrified"
-

To be fair, Iceland have had about 1000 years to gtet it right.
-

Those Germans and their zany sense of humour :)
-
There's bound to be attempts to get it going. The Icelandic chant was orchestrated by a drum and I hope no Villa fan ever brings one of those to the match.
-
The only ' Thunderclap ' I'd like to hear is Thunderclap Newman's ' Something in the Air ', quite relevant right now, imo...................Godzvilla!
-

To translate, we have scored, now lets invade Poland.

You must be as old as me. Clearly, the younger members not old enough to pick up on my last post.
-
My ManCi£y supporting "mate" always goes on about how great the Poznan is...I just like to remind him it's something else they nicked off another club and it's nothing to be proud of.
And he is a "massive" Ci£y fan, having seen them play twice in two seasons...and he was late for the Villa game because he was "having lunch" in the city.
So, it's a NO from me...let's make our own stuff up!
"We've got Tommy, Tommy Elphick in the air, in the air...."
-
After awhile it would get annoying. Also, I prefer the banter of English football chants. But it was a nice touch when the German fans adopted it, and I wouldn't mind us doing on the odd occrusion. Less is more though.

Bless, cheer up petal ,no one said you mentioned the origin of the song but the general theme of the thread is fans using other teams anthem's hence it's applicable : )
-
Unlucky with the massive quote fail 'petal'.
Maybe if you hadn't quoted my comment your point would have made sense 'petal'. Bless, etc.
-
I'm up for starting a rendition of Micah's on Fire.

Can't we just all get on, Flower?
-
When you hear the Thunderclap dont forget to grab your Thunderbuddy!!
-
I think I have already mentioned this in the Music section, but that skinny little guitarist playing the Gibson S,G. doing the overhead clapping used to give me the fear.
-
I'm just gonna sing "Gabby's on a diet. Your defence is terrified"
Actually LOL'ed
Initially thought this was a thread about some live gig at VP from the distant past - that started me thinking of a song based on "Something in the Air" .......
-
I plan to do the Thunderclap right after we've all enjoyed a hearty rendition of You're Getting Mauled by the Lions, complete with actions.
-
I'm up for starting a rendition of Micah's on Fire.
What a lovely thought. Micah on fire
-
Guess the clapping thing won't work if only half do it.
-
Anyone seen doing it near me will get a pencil stuck in their eye unless they can prove Icelandic heritage first.
.....or they are Edvard
Being with the Icelandic crowd against England was amazing. The drum really worked, and they had a "pattern" for each chant, so all the fans knew which was next.

That's the best endeavors!

I'd be happy to give a factual report that Micah's on Fire.
-
I'm all for this Thunderclap thing providing it's accompanied by an Ice bucket challenge for the clappers. It's doubtful we could logistically get a big enough receptacle for all that water so we'd have to improvise with a water cannon.
-
I'm up for starting a rendition of Micah's on Fire.
I'll just go and get the petrol..........by the way,can you round up the other "Shit Squad" members, so we can burn them too!!!!
-
I think i'd rather be anally fisted by an insane hunchbacked dwarf called "Wolfgang" who was wearing a chainmail gauntlet than participate in such contrived bollocks thanks.

Yeh you win some you lose some, I'll try not to lose any sleep over it x
-
I doubt it would catch on because most fans would pull back from 'Your A Twat' territory meaning not many would join in. No-one wants that feeling of joining in the song and your voice is the only one can hear when the song has finished and you carried on, or that clap, or claps, that you either carried on when every one else has finished. Or you may have even made up a song that went dead, or a clap that was just ringing out loud by itself. If you stand there like a prized prick and just swing your hands together has hard as you can, looking like a stutterers version of the YMCA, and you're the only one doing it, you will feel like a right dick.
So, no, I don't think it'll catch on.
*cuts to ITN Newsreporter DamonGreen reporting from a full Villa Park commemorating the two-years since they started the ThunderClap. "So, Damon, wow, I see you have your Thunderclap hat with amusing fake arms and a string to pull them together on, ha ha ha, You must be proud as an Aston Villa fan yourself that you are witnessing such a spectacle..."
-
I'd rather hear the Vuvuzelas
-
Unfortunately a bunch of predominantly 40 year old blokes won't get to decide, it'll be da yoots and da kidz who lead these things. If it catches on you'll all join in.
Can I place on record though that I think it's utter wank.
-

You're fucking useless at this flirting thing, if you don't mind me saying?
-
I look forward to some shit club like Wigan or Reading doing this and our support giving it the deserved "what the fucking he'll was that?!" treatment. Much like we refuse to join in with fruity Mexican waves.
-
The Brigada lot have a drum. They know all about generating an atmosphere. So don't rule it out at our place just yet.
-
It should be banned along with vuvuzelas and selfie sticks.
-
Only watched eng v Russia in euro 2016, so haven't seen any thunderclaps to post an objective comment. It does sound Wank though and gets a thumbs down from me.
-
I'd rather eat my own earwax.....

I'll thunderclap if we thunderfuckoff the thunderings out the club.

Thunderclap going on at the world match play darts again tonight !
-
Thunderclap going on at the world match play darts again tonight !
Good, it can stay there.
-
It must be “Something in the Air“...................Godzvilla!
-
It was decent when Iceland did it but any attempt at imitation by fans in the UK is firstly going to look incredibly contrived and secondly almost certainly going to involve at most a couple of hundred people doing it which will sound as bad as it does when you hear it at the cricket. I'm not a fan of adopting chants just because they're popular in different countries or different teams.
"We Love You" has to be the most annoying song since every club in the country had a go at it.
-
It must be “Something in the Air“...................Godzvilla!
Makes a new man of you ...

I gave a bigger hint on page 4 and it passed people by.

I think synchronised farting might be an avenue worth exploring.

Abort abort abort.

Wiki says he only joined Burnley last month. No idea whether that's accurate or whether somebody edited his profile and it's just not been changed. I've not seen the rumour anywhere else though.
-
The Cardiff lad is being rumoured. No idea what Footy is on about.
-
That was as a back-up plan to Jedinak though and it sounds like Jedinak will happen over the next few days.
-
Think he means Aaron Gunnarsson

Sorry meant Gunnarsson at cardiff. Beared warrior likr jedinak. Bring them both in
-
Be warned - the wolves do the thunder clap they have Icelandic Bodvarsson who started it off
-
If I had the thunder clap, I wouldn't be boasting about it.
-
For h and v discussion sake if there is a tribute to Graham Taylor by thunder clap then both sets of fans would acknowledge!
-

Why on earth would they even consider doing that?
-
For h and v discussion sake if there is a tribute to Graham Taylor by thunder clap then both sets of fans would acknowledge!
Sorry, but I can think of very few less suitable tributes to Sir Graham than that. A one minutes silence followed by a raucous and continuous round of 'One Graham Taylor' and 'Graham Taylor's Claret and Blue Army' is needed, not any other new-fangled nonsense. Dignified and thoughtful, as was the man himself.
-
We are having a minute's applause, as are all Football League clubs. Not sure if the Premier League are doing anything.
-

Basically because its a chant Chris

It's more debate . Only because the wolves use this celebration t it I'm not saying they will do it more speculate that it could occur. I much rather hear one Graham Taylor chant which will definitely occur all round. I more suggesting it could occur on in the wolves side of things . Either this or Lambert leading A victorious clap it both I personally wouldn't like! And even more reason to win and silence them
-

I'd rather see Dave Lee Travis play MacBeth. Or see Dave Chance sing You'll Never Walk Alone.

When have Villa supporters ever done it? It's really not being debated apart from you suggesting it and me asking why on earth it would be done?

Sorry Footy, it's a silly idea. It's an Icelandic thing, nothing at all to do with Graham Taylor. He's not actually from Iceland.

I'd rather see Dave Lee Travis play MacBeth.

His Henry V wasn't too bad: "Cry 'God for Hairy Cornflake, England and Saint George!'"

What the fuck was that at the end of the game by Wolves fans last night. I was too cold to stand and watch them mind you.

Aston Villa are set to sign Iceland international Birkir Bjarnason from FC Basel clap clap !!!

Who are the 20 who voted 'bantztastic'? Can they be named and shamed and held up for public ridicule? And then banned, from here and Villa Park.

Not sure why people hate the thunder clap so much !

No, you probably aren't.
-
Having the clap would be preferable to this insufferable shit. The Wolves the other week. As if it wasn't embarrassing enough being a Dingle.
-
No, no, no, no.
Being relegated and extremely poor for years has been embarrassing, but doing this would take it to another level.
It's for Iceland, not us. It's a big enough thing just to leave it to them.
-

well i think you are just adding to the nhs problems with so many holte enders having the clap.
-
Orchestrated mass reaction to spontaneous events is as Orwellian as alternative facts. The opposing elements render the whole meaningless. It is like scooping up your dog's excrement and putting it on the opposite pavement.
-
Okay sure. Just don't mind if that's all. But get it's not a true footballing thing associated to UK audiences . The novelty here is different. Cultural right? So no need for people to be so angry and insulting if it's not preferred here . Belittling other countries celebrations is far more insulting and patronising that anything I ever claimed about frustration with barnsley holding up deal of conor hooray !
-
Have a little bit of respect.
I think it's probably to do with the defeat to Iceland at the euro's at least British villa fans should admit that's why they dislike it

I would rather the Villa win a corner than Ingerlund win the World Cup.
None of this cringey, mauled by the Tigers style shit down the Villa please.

You are going off on one again footy. This forum has a deserved reputation for humour and benevolence. I respectfully suggest that you do not take opposing opinions personally.

Finally a reasonable response well played ! Thanks appreciate your fair comment and can put to bed. Really dislike amd voice discontent to others who talk about sexual disease .
And yes bent can be bettered! You know if we lose to rhem in play off final bent scoring yourll have fo change your name. Haha
Well done again your response makes lovely sense and that's good reasoning ! I get it a lot more now !
-

Green . I got it. Just hoped to see a reasoned response. Bent gave it. I'll ignore other ones and respect that's how they see it but feel it's a bit demeaning belittling rather than acknowledge the fantastic applause Iceland do. If it's not recognised or favoured to be copied fair enough.
-
Call me Brian, we are all friends on here, footy.
-
Ok footy, when Iceland fans did it it was impressive and original, it really captured a moment in time.
Us copying it would be contrived and cringeworthy.
Does that make sense?
-
Wolves fans probably see it as an original and humourous addition to the atmosphere.
Those of us with television sets, running water and a certain inherent sense of style that come with being a Villa fan, know otherwise.
I'm afraid its a no from me. And a big one at that.

NO. If anyone does the thunderclap near me I shall thunderclap them round the face. With my pecker.

I think the Villa hoards can stick with the "There's only one..." then again perhaps syllable wise it's not a fit.

Now I hear Spa Diamond Aston place to go before or after a match !

Gents, there are ladies on this forum.

Have a little bit of respect.
I think it's probably to do with the defeat to Iceland at the euro's at least British villa fans should admit that's why they dislike it
Can we just lock this thread and destroy it please? Don't want any visiting supporters to think this is the usual standard on H&V. We're usually talking about what we had for tea and worst players we've seen play for Villa for those just passing through.

Why is this even a debate? Ok, we have an Icelandic player, so what? It's like saying we'll do the Riverdance on the terraces because we have an Irish player or shall we try an African tribal dance in honour or Kod?

I think most Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish people enjoyed Iceland's successes and so did a small percentage of English people.
People's opposition to this idea is not based on parochialism but formed on the basis that it is a really, amazingly, shit idea.
The suggestion that Villa adopt a "Thunderclap" is about as popular as a salad in a Glaswegian chip shop and if you practised the same "respect" of other people's opinions that you preach then you would stop banging on about it and taking offence every time somebody pointed what a genuinely, atrociously woeful suggestion it is.
I like you Footyskillz, but, come on mate, let this one go, yeah?

You are going off on one again footy. This forum has a deserved reputation for humour and benevolence. I respectfully suggest that you do not take opposing opinions personally.
Green . I got it. Just hoped to see a reasoned response. Bent gave it. I'll ignore other ones and respect that's how they see it but feel it's a bit demeaning belittling rather than acknowledge the fantastic applause Iceland do. If it's not recognised or favoured to be copied fair enough.
Look I already said i now understand. Bent gave reasoned response. No soz. We've moved on to massage parlor in Aston.
I like you too your name intrigues me !
Agree with Jameson close thread and people can discuss on non football thread anything else

Seconded let's close it down now mods .
Until BB starts celebrating play-off victory with it !

Skills... let it go mate! If you tried for a million years, you wouldn't get the thunderclap going at VP. It's not gonna happen chief. Might be a bitter pill for you to swallow.

Jameson, i'm in good company with Green.
