Title: The ThunderClap @ Villa
Post by: footyskillz on July 08, 2016, 10:26:25 PM
The iconic - 'Thunderclap' celebration' that is ...celebrated by Iceland has been embraced by other nations fans and players alike during the Euros.
Having seen the Wales NT as one example who today celebrating again with the thunderclap and really creating an atmosphere.

Undoubtedly it will be seen around many grounds In  Europe this coming season.

My simple question is a yes or no.
Are we Aston Villa to adopt and celebrate the ThunderClap?

I'm in for the clap!
It would add alot to the villa support to players. And hope this takes off to support our team.

Rapport can be built with our players after our victorious matches they can start the clap with us the fans and really get a great atmosphere.

Polling open..

Not on your life. The Prem will be awash with this utter shit. Teams who play celebratory music after each goal and hand out hand clappers are welcome to it.

Seriously, if we even try it, I'm walking out.

I will stick to the traditional supportive chants when things are going well and inflatable sex dolls when things go badly.

As god intended.

Yeah, all the best songs and chants are the ones that have just been lazily copied from somebody else.

Edit - for clarity the above was a response to the general concept rather than at SV's post directly above.

It was very effective done by the Icelandics at the Euros ... and has become associated so strongly with them that it would seem like a parody done elsewhere.

Well this is interesting not many are up for it . I guessing it's because of the unoriginal rather than not liking the big thunder clap. It's really quite something in unionism.
Also I like the idea of the crowd chanting the surname of players when line up announced before  kick off. Also do this when pa announces goal scorer like they do at Bayern Munich and Dortmund. Arsenal do a bit of this and I think villa now being a global European club it would go well. The announcing of players surnames is great fun.
I find it far better than the pantomine cheer / jeer after players full name announced.

So a rousing chant of players surname after goals and also line up announcements should be another introduction to our new era !

It was very good and looked great spirits both welsh fans and players as was when France embraced too.

Look at this ! Could this sort of clapping support please be embraced by you at the villa?

I like it when Iceland do it but I think copying it is cringeworthy and I'd be truly disappointed if any Villa fan were to consider adopting it. It'd be like when Bolo Zenden tried to copy Asamoah Gyan when he was doing his weird little stampy dance after scoring at Chelsea a few years back.

Just shows how people forget origins of songs- "You'll Never Walk alone " this from the musical Carousel was first sung by the Blues at St Andrews .... Hijacked by Scousers and believed by all to be their copyright, just like like us singing " Always look on the bright side of life" by Monty Python , hijacked by Mancs . Sing anything often enough and loud enough and it soon becomes yours

My ManCi£y supporting "mate" always goes on about how great the Poznan is...I just like to remind him it's something else they nicked off another club and it's nothing to be proud of.
And he is a "massive" Ci£y fan, having seen them play twice in two seasons...and he was late for the Villa game because he was "having lunch" in the city.

So, it's a NO from me...let's make our own stuff up!

I doubt it would catch on because most fans would pull back from 'Your A  Twat' territory meaning not many would join in. No-one wants that feeling of joining in the song and your voice is the only one can hear when the song has finished and you carried on, or that clap, or claps, that you either carried on when every one else has finished. Or you may have even made up a song that went dead, or a clap that was just ringing out loud by itself. If you stand there like a prized prick and just swing your hands together has hard as you can, looking like a stutterers version of the YMCA, and you're the only one doing it, you will feel like a right dick.

So, no, I don't think it'll catch on.

*cuts to ITN Newsreporter DamonGreen reporting from a full Villa Park commemorating the two-years since they started the ThunderClap. "So, Damon, wow, I see you have your Thunderclap hat with amusing fake arms and a string to pull them together on, ha ha ha, You must be proud as an Aston Villa fan yourself that you are witnessing such a spectacle..."

It was decent when Iceland did it but any attempt at imitation by fans in the UK is firstly going to look incredibly contrived and secondly almost certainly going to involve at most a couple of hundred people doing it which will sound as bad as it does when you hear it at the cricket. I'm not a fan of adopting chants just because they're popular in different countries or different teams.

"We Love You" has to be the most annoying song since every club in the country had a go at it.

Sorry, but I can think of very few less suitable tributes to Sir Graham than that. A one minutes silence followed by a raucous and continuous round of 'One Graham Taylor' and 'Graham Taylor's Claret and Blue Army'  is needed, not any other new-fangled nonsense. Dignified and thoughtful, as was the man himself.

It's more debate . Only because the wolves use this celebration t it I'm not saying they will do it  more speculate that it could occur. I much rather hear one Graham Taylor chant which will definitely occur all round.  I more suggesting it could occur on in the wolves side of things . Either this or Lambert leading A victorious clap it both I personally wouldn't like!  And even more reason to win and silence them

The  novelty here is different.  Cultural right?  So no need for people to be so angry and insulting if it's not preferred here . I think most Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish people enjoyed Iceland's successes and so did a small percentage of English people.

People's opposition to this idea is not based on parochialism but formed on the basis that it is a really, amazingly, shit idea.

The suggestion that Villa adopt a "Thunderclap" is about as popular as a salad in a Glaswegian chip shop and if you practised the same "respect" of other people's opinions that you preach then you would stop banging on about it and taking offence every time somebody pointed what a genuinely, atrociously woeful suggestion it is.
