Title: IQLowe: Adventures of a Villa fan
Post by: IQLowe 33 on May 20, 2016, 02:23:33 PM
Hi there Villa admin I wonder if you would be open minded enough to have a look at my project of the above named and give me your opinion.

I think some of it (ast least) is funny but then I would say that wouldn't I? To access material please go to trevor beddows you tube.A refusal would neither hurt

me nor surprise me.

Yours Trevor Beddows.

The first few seconds of this is the act of a very, very brave man, and one clearly with a sense of humour (even if I lost the plot with the rest).

It has a plot woofles- maybe a better performer than I could have conveyed that. I am after all an amateur.

How bizarre indeed, PWS! They said that about Monthy Python when they first hit our screens.

There are some bloody good lines in there if you care to look for them.

BTW, the real targets are not Villa fans but those fools who have allowed themselves to be gulled into thinking that Nigel Farage

is the the answer to all our problems.

I suppose the Heathen should be given credit to put some thought into it. The Villa fan as the moronic sub human brother of his sophisticated Bluenose sibling.

Birmingham City, we're coming for  you.

I suppose this is the inevitable result of cuts to public sector budgets in the UK.  The mentally disadvantaged aren't receiving the care and support that they clearly need.

yes you spotted the deliberate role reversal. At least you watched from the beginning whereas anyone picking up on the naked guy would be rather more

challenged. Thanks for your comments.

Oh come on! As IQ Lowe would tell you the mentally ill* are really cynical dole queue scroungers. It really isn't very much to do with the Villa/ Birmingham divide.

More of an attack on The Sun.

*He himself is so mentally ill that he is quite certain that only other people are mentally ill.

I love a good piece of satire and if you as a Birmingham City fan, had come up with a genuinely funny pisstake of Villa fans I would honestly say "well done".  But it isn't funny, or clever, it's just toe-curlingly bad.  Like watching your pissed up Grandma trying to do the hokey-cokey after one or two sherries too many.  So I'm afraid it's a case of "Small Heath's Got No Talent" and it's a no from me.

Fine, but thanks for taking your time to watch it. But of course you're missing the point: it ISN'T a pisstake of Aston Villa fans. I don't know how many times I'm gonna have to say this but it primarily attack on xenophobes and the like; even there it may still be toe curlingly bad- it might be a shockingly inept attempt to satirize a certain little Englander mentality but I can live with that.

Can't you SEE that whatever its faults it aint got much to do with either Aston Villa or Birmingham city?

The person in the video I saw was wearing a Villa hat and scarf. And nothing else, more worryingly. If it was a attack on Little Englanders rather than an attempt at poking fun at Villa fans, I fail to see the significance of the apparel.
Title: Re: IQLowe: Adventures of a Villa fan
Post by: IQLowe 33 on May 21, 2016, 05:21:42 AM
I wouldn't and couldn't pretend that there is more than an element of Villa baiting but if you'd care to look

you'd see that the majority of the material is indeed  directed at right wing numbskulls. It may surprise some that I don't

actually believe Birmingham fans to be superior in intelligence, breeding etc to Villa fans; hell I was threatened with physical violence

by a Blues fan on the Small Heath Alliance forum because I had the great gall to disagree with him. In fact I've shown my IQ Lowe stuff

to a couple of Blues fans who really don't like it and to a couple of Villa fans who do- even my missus thinks I could do a lot better.

(Although she does like the Wayne Rooney gag)

In point of fact I know damn well that if this material were to find its way onto the SHA forum I'd get far abuse from that source than any

I've received thus far on this forum.

As far as my performance goes yeah I can see that I muff a few lines _ I could certainly do with more sophisticated recording equipment

to reduce external noise levels- you can clearly hear the fan whirring in the background but I still believe there at the very least a few good lines amongst

the weaker stuff.

Anyway all I can say to those who have taken the time to have a look at my efforts is a sincere thank you- I was both surprised that I was even allowed

to post this material on this forum and more thanks are due to your admin.

Oh and it's only just occurred to me that many will dislike it on both levels since a cursory look at the politics section shows me that just as there are

little Englanders on the Blues' boards there are also the same on this one. To me it's a matter of rather childish fun ripping the p out the Villa but I am much

more incensed when I hear people arguing with a string of  phrases picked lock, stock and cliche from The Daily Mail or similar.

Well there's the problem, Dave D: right wing nutjobs often don't get things. They're usually a bit well ....syncopated in my opinion.

Other things aside I'm impressed with the general demeanour of this forum. Maybe one day I'll go down Villa Park and give them a cheer; after all I've now got

the costume. Whatever else might be said of IQ Lowe he has at least spent eighteen quid on Villa paraphanalia and nothing so far on his beloved Blues team.

My missus  threatened to leave me yesterday if I didn't put the hated hat and scarf out of sight.

Posting yourself nearly naked on youtube? Really? Your family must be proud.

Are you some kind of latter day Mary Whitehouse- you know some kind of self appointed guardian of public morality?

Just think if I was completely naked instead of "nearly" you'd really have something to get your teeth into. Besides if I was completely naked

it would be no big thing- ask my missus.

I'd be willing to bet you never actually listened to a single word of my spiel finding it easier to feel self righteous.

As far taunting Villa fans goes I can honestly say some of the most idiotic and odious people I've confronted on football forums were bluenoses.

I could- if required- do quite a lot of material on IQ that doesn't require any mention of football whatsoever. I could even take off the hat and scarf and throw

out all references to football and football supporters but I wonder if anyone would actually give the material a hearing. I think some of it is funny and I'm

backing me in this matter.

Erm, good luck.

I'm a decent enough amateur psychologist to know that anyone approaching such a project with a preconceived  immovable intention to dislike it will usually find reasons to justify their prejudices.

You can sneer all you like but some people did find some of it funny but beware because I reserve my best stuff for faux moral outrage.

I'm good bud and I'm sticking to it.

Besides don't you find it a tad strange that the semi naked clip should attract far more hits than the others?

Perhaps people actually WANT to feel morally outraged?

My advice as someone who has performed comedy:

Plus points:

A hipster would pay a fortune for that 'painting' on the wall.

I think the humour will be primarily visual Clamps.  Atlantic rollers breaking over bluenose dressed in Villa scarf and hat would do it for me.
Title: Re: IQLowe: Adventures of a Villa fan
Post by: IQLowe 33 on May 24, 2016, 09:08:18 AM
My advice as someone who has performed comedy:
  • Start with something funny
  • Build on this by adding something funny in the middle
  • Finish with a big funny bit at the end
  • The old bloke being naked stopped being funny after Monty Python did it to death in the 1970s
  • Don't give up the day job.

And your list of comedy awards is .........? Also I dont have a day job which is why I fill my time doing this stuff.

Oh and if you ever want to take me on on stage you name the venue.

That's the old Mike and Bernie Winters gag.  I am fast and he is hideous.  The Rockall gig could be the making of you.  A real Holte Ender as producer and the lovely Lauren Laverne as presenter.  Cast your fate to the winds.  Or gales.
Title: Re: IQLowe: Adventures of a Villa fan
Post by: IQLowe 33 on May 24, 2016, 09:23:34 AM
Actually, Bri, Mike and Bernie Winters never really floated my boat. I always thought their comedy was for the less well informed comedically speaking.

But if you liked them that's your business.

Post by: IQLowe 33 on May 24, 2016, 09:29:38 AM
Anyway if you really want to give my stuff a fair crack of the whip then it would be best if you start on the longer clip- there's a loose storyline running through it; on the other if you're a bit gay and are happy to feast your eyes on luscious body then stay with the "nearly" naked man.

They never made me laugh but Mike and Bernie were two nice guys.  They struggled towards the end before they split up and actually did a gig in Cannon Hill Park with only me, Alan Titchmarsh and couple of bystanders for an audience.

Oh and re the painting in the background it's my wife's and I don't think it my place to tell her what she should or should not like.

She doesn't think much of my comedy either and man she hates the Villa with a vengeance but strangely a couple of my Villa mates like it a lot.

Or so they tell me.

yes, isn't it. Thank you. You see the problem is about two weeks ago I woke up one morning feeling absolutely fearless. The result is that I now like what I do and I do what I like. It's exhilarating feeling and quite liberating to be sure.

Or you (or someone else) could devise your own situation and then go post it Small Heath Alliance and see what happens.

He is certainly brighter than the average Nose we get here. Who occasionally turn up acting like 3 year old's.  Then plunge like lemmings from a cliff in the week of a game with them in a storm "we always 'ated you anyway. KRO. SO TV.  We will kick shit out of you at the weekend" etc.

To IQ, if you think you are funny and back yourself for a career as a comic, then go for it. Taking the piss out of extreme right peasants as you suggest is a perfectly fine place to be.

Fuck off with the moaning at people not finding it funny though. Or insinuating they are daft if they don't.

I think most of us who've watched your video would rather you belonged to the other one, but I get the feeling that no-one really cares as much as you think, so there's no need to get quite so defensive about it all!
There's no -one on trhe defence here bud. I'm sure most of you find me very offensive. 8)

Not really! You're one in a fairly long line of temporary H&V mascots at the moment. This thread is slightly more entertaining than last season's match threads were... But only slightly!
I'll say this for you: what you lack in self-awareness you more than make up in self-belief... Bud!  8)

To be accused of being only slightly entertaining than the team to which you sold you soul, GJ, is the most devastating criticism I've received to date.

You sure know how to hurt a man.

You seem alright for a 'nose, and most of us on here are fairly accepting to people who seem quite reasonable in their postings.  So if you genuinely like the place, then stick around, but try not to bring the Blues into everything.  And accept the fact that absolutey nobody finds your videos funny, on any level.  I'm sorry to be so brutally frank, but they really aren't.  Nothing to do with your football allegiances, I say the same to Jon Crofts when he posts in the Jokes thread in Off Topic! ;)

Sorry, I can not accept the fact that nobody but nobody finds my videos funny because I've met a few who do- Villa fans too.

I'm not quite so stoopid as to think that I'f be welcomed with open arms on this of all forums. Not all Blues fan like 'em but some do if only

because some will laugh at any attempt to mock the hated neighbours.

and some "not for me". Also I don't bring Blues into everything I really don't and if you think that then may I suggest that you have more careful look

at previous posts.

Also the flak I'm getting on here is nothing to the stuff I got when I posted on the Small Heath Alliance.

But thanks for your largely courteous post I do appreciate it.

Sorry, you are like one of those morons that goes on XFactor or BGT and when they give you the inevitable - you start bleating.

Comedy is all about personal taste. What you find funny, may not appeal to the masses. Given the feedback on here, it doesn't.

If you think you are funny, try out for talent shows. Try out for BGT. Go to open mic nights.

If you fall on your arse, you will be left with a choice. Rework the material, try a different crowd or give up.

My mates think I am funny too - most think I am crass and sometimes have no filter - but funny.

What I am saying is... just because your mates think you are funny not everyone does.

These people that you say like your stuff are the friends or acquaintances of yours? Seriously, I'm baffled as to the direction or point of your video and it seemed pissed pub ramblings of some nutter than social comment or comedy. Maybe the second instalment will tie it in more but as it stands it doesn't offer a great deal.

well at least that gets a bit nearer to some sort of analysis than the "you're absolutely crap, mate"  line I get from most of yous and I thank you for it, Peter w. yes I did intend to presson with some more stuff and very little of it will anything to do with football. As far my mates go some have offered some suggestions which I intend to take on board and some have said the whole thing is hard to follow.

Yeah, even I can see that I fluffed some lines and yes I do think my diction needs to be adressed. Contrary to what some seem to believe on here I don't think it's ground breaking comedy I just think it has some potential and yes I do think some of it is actually quite good.

I have in fact performed comedy in the past and have been complimented by the likes of Will Smith (the thick of it) and Sean Lock. It's also true that I bombed more often than not but in my defence I should point out that I suffered from such paralysing stage fright that I simply couldn't perform. Harry Enfield suffers from the same affliction as I'm sure a good many others do.

Besides the IQ Lowe thing is a very minor part of the whole project and I'd like to be through with him soon before I move on to other stuff.

Although you want to appear spontaneous, you should really rehearse until you're only 'fluffing' the lines that are supposed to sound 'fluffed'. It's distracting, more than anything, if you're listening to something and aren't sure which bits are deliberate and which are accidental.

You need to stop doing that thing you do when you sort of tut/smack your lips together inbetween saying different sentences.  It's the sort of thing that goes unnoticed in a normal conversation, but is a bit annoying on something that's being broadcast.

Okay, I've watched three of your videos now.
I could do an insightful review and critical dissection but it's late so I will just say that they are absolutely fucking awful, sorry.

Being nice, I think it might work better as a character in an ensemble piece, like in a sitcom, rathee than just one bloke talking to camera.

You'd have to find some mates to work with or just have it so the camera cut between you in a number of elaborate costumes.

Thanks. It wasmy first attempt at any thing of this nature and I wasn't expecting to get it right first time out. Even my missus thinks that despite having some good lines it doesn't really work. Constructive criticism I welcome- I want to do it better after all. I aint too impressed with the "you're a complete wanka line," though. Even if it were true. Let's face how many complete wankas actually like being called complete wankas?

Okay, some constructive criticism.

I think these pieces struggle to know what they want to be, are they meant to be social commentary? Witty monologues? Dry, observation pieces? What?
In the end they end up being nothing but slightly mad ramblings which you tend to completely switch off from after about 30 seconds, possibly due to the poor presentation.
You might get away with it if there were actually some funny lines or a decent hook in the first 30 seconds, but there isn't, if there are some genuinely funny lines in there then I missed them completely.

For me, "suck my cock you fucking imbecile" by the mild-mannered and affable IQLowe will go down alongside "why did Barry take the penalty", "Did you know Prince William was a Villa fan" and "African car reverser" as H&V gold dust. His lovely old iron-faced missus on his last video was the icing on the cake.

Even though he was a strange 'un, I don't think there's any need to bring his missus into it.

He brought his missus into it. It was simply a fitting way to end it all, her looking thoroughly hacked off with all the 'comedy' of it.
