Title: Our Villa Knowledge
Post by: peter w on March 25, 2016, 11:09:59 PM
To move away from having nothing more to talk about regarding the current malaise I was thinking about our Villa knowledge. I mean the current goings on at the club. I get most of my stuff on here or the wider internet. Which is likely to be the vast majority of us. How many people here have got contacts at some description at the club? i don't mean give names and the nature of the relationship but who get some of their information about the club from contacts within? Of the top of my head I'd guess cheltenham with his AVSC stuff and dave Woodhall with his journalism. Maybe Lee knows a coach, or has spoken to coaches when watching Cam play.

anyway, just an aside.

To be perfectly honest I take everything I hear, whether it be media or ITK's (on hear or other forums), with a pinch of salt until proven 100%
Some, obviously, have more salt than others  :)

I agree with you Nigel, I am very sceptical about anything I read or hear about the Villa until it is 100%, just the way I am about AVFC

I use the joining up the dots technique to form a picture of what is going on at the club.  I have no big intro into the inner workings of the club, just as Peter W says, this site, DW's articles and a wide range of electronic and printed media gleanings.

It works to my satisfaction insofar as I do not seek cast iron facts to stand up in a court of law, just the picture of what is happening to ease the pain of being an Aston Villa supporter. An example of my forensic dot hunting would be in the week up to the massively important Watford game.  I had already got a very good idea how dim Micah Richards is from watching a lengthy television interview with him at Fiorentina.  When it was pointed out to him that he lived in one of the most beautiful, cultured and historic cities in the world and that the view from his balcony could have been a Renaissance work of art, his reply of  "whatever" spoke volumes. In the week prior to the Watford crunch game Richards gave an interview to the Daily Telegraph and R5L in which he blamed the French incoming players for bad results.  The two very clear dots extracted from that episode were that Richards was at the heart of dressing room rebellion and by the timing of his comments ahead of a pivotal game showed disregard for the battle for Premiership survival.

The current debate over the manager's position and his potential replacement has a number of unfixed dots floating about it.  Remi Garde's body language, the story about Moyes joining us being touted by a journalist with solid form for being wrong,  Brian Little in the boardroom.  Is there a dot there?  Is Brian a bit of fan candy or is he working actively as a new manager go-between?

Trying to put two and two together works for me at least.

Me too brian, the mystery and guessing is part of the fun.

Pelty is pretty well connected but not sure how often he posts, or will post now.

Anyone properly connected is in a bit of a no win situation as I'd imagine even the players don't know what is going on and speculate just like we all do in our places of work.  Therefore even with a decent ITK connection they can still be wrong.

To be honest who is going to admit that they have a contact at the club like say" my nephew brother etc is head up of finance or marketing"
Surely if you posted something that was confidential before it was released you would possibly get them the sack

I don't know who has what connections, but although DW on here doesn't say a lot, so far as I'm aware he's always been right when he does.

Other than that, I suspect there's a lot of 'stopped clock right twice' going on.

I think it was Mac who said "Anyone who gets told anything worth knowing and makes it public won't get told anything else."

Most speculation is a combination of educated guess, joining the dots and as Hopadop says, stopped clocks.

The voices inside my head tell me everything I need to know about anything, Villa included.

Thank you Brian.  Have an enjoyable one, it will be so much nicer not having watched us lose.

Hookeysmith used to keep us abreast of what went down in the tunnel and technical areas but not so much anymore.
