Title: Sherwood on MOTD
Post by: Cliftonville Villain on January 23, 2016, 11:58:57 PM
Was expecting an in-depth discussion on Dim Tim's failings....he really does have friends in the media. Not one mention and the most glossed-over piece of punditry I think I've ever seen.

Suddenly running out of time on an edited highlights show doesn't really do it for me...he had enough time to fawn over Spurs though. At least he got a nice tan out of us.

Yes a match winner .....

Loved his comments on Spurs defending  , apparently the ball hitting the crossbar twice is down to good defending and the best keeper in the league...

Me and rest of you should not be funding an arsehole to spout out  diarrhoea whilst being fellated by the crisp munching host.

You can credit the nice tan to the idiot who gave him such a long contract.

Looks increasingly likely that we'll feature on the awful Championship/Football League programme on C5 next season rather than MOTD. I actually watched it last night to prepare myself - more games (11 last night) to squeeze into less time (an hour minus ad breaks so about 45/50 minutes) means about 2-3 minutes a game - not much more than the goals scored. The most noticeable thing last night was how Lambert looked - close cropped haircut, clean shaven, and looking about 10 years younger than he did when he left us.

that part was funny alright  ;D

thought Tactics was a little unsteady on his feet last night but was ably assisted by the banality of Wrighty and Gary

Liked the way he raved about Kante at Leicester, yet we ended up with lesser Ligue 1 players for over double the cost

Technically they found Kanté in Ligue 2 (although Caen have since been promoted to Ligue 1).

Watch the FL72 programme on Sky instead.  It's a much better programme. I watch it weekly - usually on a night that I'm not seeing the missus and there's no football on tv.  I can't remember the last time I watched MOTD,
I'm usually either not back from the Villa in time or am still out!

You can be certain had we got Kante and they got Veretout, the latter would be raved about and Kante would have been awful..

I actually think Gueye has really picked up again since dropping back into the holding role.

As long as he doesn't shoot he can crack on.

I thought he was our best player on Saturday. Nothing showy, but was in the right place at the right time on a number of occasions, and made a few good bursts forward, but was let down by the lack of movement off the ball.

Talking of MOTD, they showed him to be second best in the Premier League for interceptions.

This is very sad people.  I never wanted Sherwood in the first place and it didn't surprise me when he bombed this season, but does that mean he shouldn't be entitled to work as a pundit and call it like he sees it? No.  Besides he's not the only one raving about Spur's defending and I think the statistics back him up so please get over yourselves :-X  And another thing MOTD is a highlights show last I checked.  Why would they grill him on his time with Villa? That's more MOTD2Extra's job ::)

To be fair to him, and I'm not generally minded that way, he was sticking up for us after the Leicester game, and if he was bitter at all he did a good job of hiding it.

It must be quite hard in that situation, to answer questions about a job you failed at in front of a national audience.

And if the new set up of the club is to be believed then I think he deserves at least a few sour grapes.  Best thing he can do is resume his career at Championship level and go from there.  He still has things to offer as a manager but it was too soon for him at Villa.

i'm sure there are at least a couple of million reasons to prevent any grapes from souring

When we met Fox for the pre AGM forum meeting thing, he seemed surprised that Sherwood hadn't gobbed off about the players when doing the Sky punditry so I am not sure there are any confidentiality clauses in his pay off.

Mind you, Fox was also baffled about his previous gobbing off to the press if he does rate the players.

I don't think anyone's actually denying the guy a living but surely highlights are accompanied by analysis, that's why Wright and Sherwood were there. In regards to the Villa match, there was none...whatsoever.

I think that's more down to our game being the only 0-0 and given the last spot on MOTD though.

It must be incredibly tempting to gob off in his situation. And, in the short term, it might seem like it helps to repair your reputation. But in the long term he comes out much better if he is magnanimous. He's more likely to get another managerial job and will definitely get more work on the Beeb. If he was gobbing off he'd be signed up by Talksport. No-one aims for that.

There was nothing they could analyse except the penalty appeal, which Sherwood said should have been given. Neither keeper had a meaningful save to make.

Well Sherwood can't say too many bad things as it will make him untouchables to chairman/owners of football club.

Wilkins was an absolute joke.

As and when we drop, he'll be as accountable as anyone else.
