Anyone have the annual figures for total player wages at Villa since 2006? I'm guessing the accounts are published somewhere.

Wages Turnover
2006/07 £43.2 £52m
2007/08 £50.4 £75m
2008/09 £60.7 £84m
2009/10 £80.0 £89m
2010/11 £83.4 £92m
2011/12 £70.0 £80m
2012/13 £72.0 £84m
2013/14 £69.0 £117m
2014/15 £65.1 ??????

Thankyou.
Edit: I assume those figures will be less for 2014-15 and less again for this season. Still pretty eye watering though.

In terms of whether we've been spending enough to (in theory) be competitive the "league table" of spending is probably more informative.
I don't think that we've been under 12th all the way through and that was year 1.
-
I asked for the figures because my interest was piqued when I went looking for the differences in the TV revenues for the PL and Championship.
If the almost inevitable happens then next season in the Championship, parachute payments, TV and "solidarity" money will total £28m (I posted a link on the AGM Protest thread), compared to the likely £65m for similar payments this season (I posted another link in the same thread).
That's a huge hit.
-
Put it this way, instead of a likely turnover of around £150m, next seasons will probably be around £70m.
-
Which if I've remembered correctly the rule of thumb for wages:turnover is max 60% of turnover on wages that would mean taking the wages bill down to £42M.
-
You'd like to think the wages percentages drop when they drop down?! Surely our lawyers pick this up in negotiations?!

Let's hope so, eh?

Championship clubs turnovers in 2013/14. With our income we should bum that division in to oblivion if we had anyone in control who knew what they were doing. Brentford, turnover of £3m quid fucking hell, that's like Gabby starting his own club on the side.

The reduction in wages should be written as a percentage of any expected fall in turnover, in the above case down to 47% of starting value.
The target of wages being max 60% of turnover would still hold.

Maybe worth considering that Bournmouth didn't comply with rules got promoted and will get a fine , which for the Prem League money is worth it..of course you don't go up then you get a transfer embargo...

This is why talk about going straight through the divisions is nonsense. The Champions League clubs might piss all over clubs like us for income but we're the same with the Championship.

Indeed we should, but I wouldn't trust any of our hierarchy to successfully organise a piss-up in a brewery for a coach-load of rampant alcoholics.

My thoughts exactly. If there is a way of cocking it up they will find it.

The other thing to consider is that us in the Championship will be, to many a player of that standard, akin to a Barcelona going into the Prem. If we went with Newcastle and/or Sunderland then they'd have the same pool of talent as us to try and tempt so preferably two smaller clubs will go.

Our one remaining hope. We're so bloody useless from top to bottom at the moment that we won't even manage to get relegated properly.

That would be terrible ..... for Barca. They don't deserve that.
