After the other nights fixture, when was the last time we had a game on a Friday night at Villa Park, apart from it falling on a Boxing Day or New Years Day.
I seem to recall playing Forest on a Friday many years ago in the Simod Cup, or was it the Zenith Data Systems Cup.. It's bugging me.
-
I can only remember Liverpool in the early 80's and Albion in the 87-88 season.
-
I remember us being presented with the 3rd division trophy at the last home game of the 1971/72 season, which was on a friday night.
-
Middlesborough late 70's, because of the Motor Show at The N. E. C., I think we lost 2-0.
-
i remember when we beat liverpool 5 -1 on a friday
-
Millwall in the FA Cup wasn't it?
-
Conman, I think the 5-1 Liverpool game was on a Wednesday.

West Ham, Easter friday 1999.
Shocking game, 0-0.

Came down to that with my Boro supporting mate who stood with me on the Holte End. That was a long journey home!
-
I'm also pretty sure we played the Stripeys on a Friday, last home game in 1978-79.
-
West Ham, Easter friday 1999.
Shocking game, 0-0.
I was going too put this but thought it was 2-2? Sinclair with an injury time equalizer.
-
V Swansea May 1982 before the greatest game in our history.
-
I remember going to see us play at Doncaster on a Friday in March 1971. Tricky journey up in a clapped out van meant we arrived late to find we were 1-0 up. We went on to lose 1-2. I don't think we have had a good record against them for some strange reason?

i remember being at bristol rovers away on a friday night ,,,3rd round of FA cup ,,early 80s
big end no roof behind the goal ,,,,,,torrential rain throughtout the match

Millwall in the FA Cup wasn't it?
Yes, I'm not surprised everyone has put it out of their minds though. It came just after the travesty against Bradford, so wasn't even our most humiliating result that month.
-
Millwall in the FA Cup wasn't it?
Not at villa park though
-
Millwall in the FA Cup wasn't it?
Possibly the last of the 10 worst days of my life supporting the Villa.

The next season, that one was on a Monday night.

You're forgetting the last game we played where the Villa News & Record didn't include European champions in the honours list.
Edit: Apologies I didn't see Nick Harper's post.

It had changed to the ZDS by then. 22nd December 1989, a Friday. Home game, we won 2-1, Platt (pen) and Mountfield. Att 6,530.
We also played them at home again in the ZDS in 91/92. Lost 0-2, att 7,859.

The West Ham game was Easter. There was another Friday night game we did a programme for. Can anyone remember the circumstances?

The Friday night match on 22nd Dec was one of my favourites - just broken up from work for Christmas, met up with a load of mates in town and then a conga round the largely barren Holte End. Can't remember the game, mind.

I had completely forgotten that game. IIRC it was the night before the cup final as I recall the cup final programme was sold in the programme kiosks. Brian Robson absolutely ran the show that night and we were lucky to lose onl y 1-0. My dad must have been feeling flush as he took us in the Witton Lane seats for the first time in my life.
A couple of seasons before that we also played the night before the cup final v QPR. I am pretty certain Sid scored a cracking 25 yarder.

I can't think of anymore Villa games so I guess an International or a FA Cup semi-final. One of the 1966 WC games?

I am beaten. Can't think of any. Maybe an abandoned game?
My last guess which is wrong (probably Easter & there is no programme!)
Birmingham Charity Cup Final Fri Apr 30 1897 Walsall L 1-2

The night before the cup final in 1973 we played a friendly at Wimbledon and for reasons that have never been explained we produced the programme.

Very sneaky. This game (from Wimbledon News 11 May 1973).
They were still non-league then.

I remember ending up in the Wheat Sheaf in Sheldon for a few pre Christmas drinks after the first Forest game. For the second one we had some tickets for the Trinity instead of our usual places on the Holte and it was the coldest I have ever been at Villa Park.
