Title: Q&A for Manchester United website
Post by: The Hole on August 11, 2015, 12:41:35 PM
Hello all,

I am the creator of a Manchester United website called Stretford End Arising. URL: http://www.stretfordendarising.com/

With the two teams facing each other on Saturday can I ask a few questions? Here is an example from 2011: http://www.stretfordendarising.com/2011/01/31/osoc-villa-fans-on-darren-bent-and-gerard-houllier/

A link to heroesandvillains.info will be included in the published article.

Cheers,
Andrew

Maybe the first question you should ask is what day is the game being played

1. Hate the fixture. Still bitter about the injury time against Sheff Wed.
Fuckers.

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?

I hate the EDL, mostly.

Quote
2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?

Style = omething that looks like Barcelona in comparison to what we got from Lambert and McLeish.

Quote
4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?

I hope so, because if he takes us any further backwards, we'll get relegated. He is at least signing some interesting looking players.

Quote
5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?

Mid table. If that sounds like low expectations, after the last four or five years, it's like winning the Champions League in terms of desirability

Quote
6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?

Possibly Gestede, or someone we haven't signed yet. Hopefully not Adebayor.

Quote
7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?

Amavi and Gueye. Oh, and Micah Richards. Not seen enough of the others yet.

Quote
8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?

If he applies himself, definitely.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?

Somewhere between Hall Green and Acocks Green. You'll probably want the number 11 bus

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?

A real test given we virtually have a new team.  To be honest, I'm beginning to think will we ever beat you at home ?

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?

An attacking formation certainly.  Take into account Sherwood has only drawn 1 game in charge of us and that was 3-3 !

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?

Yes, definatly.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?

Survivial first and foremost.  Lower mid table at best.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?

Gestede.  He looks an absolute monster !

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?

Amavi, Richards and Gestede but it is early days.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?

He does but he is still very young.  Another season of development this year will suit us fine.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?

A very young kid with no first team action as yet.  Hard to answer.

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?

Hate this fixture, You usually turn up , hardly break sweat and leave with a comfortable win, there's definitely an inferioty complex with some of our players as regards playing you, I'm hoping that with so many new faces in they won't have this feeling and will at least go for it.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?

I'd imagine we'll continue with the 4-3-3 from last week, I'm not sure if he'll go for a counter attacking approach or stick Gestede on from the start and go direct.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?

I was gutted when he took over, I thought he was a mouthy twat that would fill our squad with Spurs rejects and over priced journey men English players, thankfully I couldn't have been more wrong, apart from the mouthy twat bit (but he's our mouthy twat so that's acceptable), he's the first manager we've had for over a decade who seems too understand movement off the ball and has more than plan A, it will take time and along the way we'll get some twattings but he's definitely the man too take us forward.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?

I'll take anything other than a relegation battle, a boring 12th will be fine.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?

Gestede looks like he's guaranteed 8-10 headed goals from his kamakaze get out my way attitude too crosses, we really need the other forwards/wingers too chip in and one of the midfield lads to rack up a few as we don't look like we have a 20+ striker.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?

Amavi, we've had some good awful full backs over the years so its natural that we get a bit excited when we get it right, he looks the real deal, more of a bullet train wing back than a left back but comfortable defending too... His next move will be too for astronomical money I'd imagine.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?

He's technically miles ahead of anything we've produced for years, no end product at all at the minute but he seems to have his head screwed on, contrary to what the papers write, so I'm expecting him to be one of our most important players within the next couple of years.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?

I wish I could, you probably no as much as I do.

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?

It shouldn't be on a Friday but I'm willing to allow it should we take all 3 points. Prefer to play your lot now rather than the week before Xmas.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?

A very hard working team, probably 4-3-3 and intent to play fast, attacking football.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?

Hopefully, yes. He talks a very good game, he's signed what looks like some very interesting players, now all he needs to do is the difficult bit - get them playing. He has the great advantage of not being Paul Lambert so will be given time to show what he can do.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?

Around 55 points.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?

Nobody, he is that good and all the more frustrating that he signed for a half arsed team like Liverpool. The team now will all have to chip in with goals.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?

Amavi.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?

He does but with a lot more competition this season he'll need to deliver more to get games.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?

A French psychoanalyst that epitomized on an international scale the spirit of independent thought, while still engaging with current developments in almost all spheres of psychoanalysis. He understood Villa fans, especially with his theories on negativity and dreams.

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?
It's probably too early in the season to expect us to overturn one of the most painful trends in the Premier League - i.e. our home record against you lot - but then it is very early in the season for LvG to get his expensive additions working well as a team. Maybe, just maybe ...

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?
A more flexible formation approach than his recent predecessors ever managed; very attacking and more binary (win or lose).

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?
I hope so, otherwise we're doomed to the Ultimate Drop. Realistically, the team running the club now looks properly professional in a way that we have lacked, whilst other clubs have progressed way beyond us.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?
Mid-table mediocrity would be great, with a decent cup run.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?
I hope we move from a one-man reliance on a goal-machine to a team / squad that scores from all over. We do seem to have a greater balance and depth in the squad this season.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?
Gueye. He looks like a more skilful Delph.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?
Possibly, given the right mentorship and personal drive.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?
Why do you ask?

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?
I can hardly wait. I particularly like the way Ashley Young can't help kissing the turf whenever he returns home.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?
Beware the faint whiff of garlic.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?
I like the managerial team far more than I like the manager.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?
A stronger whiff of garlic.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?
No one. At least not for another 15 years or so, best guess. But we will get by without him.
In 6 months time feel free to ask Benteke who will fill the void left by the crowd that once adored him at VP.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?
The tough thing here is thnking of a smart arse answer. No Marlon Harewoods, no Habib Beyes. They have all made sense.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?
Of course he does. Ask any man in the street.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?
Well ordinarily we roll over and get our bellys tickled when we play Utd. I think Sherwood will go for it though and defensively Utd are suspect. I think we could have some joy. Gestede in particular, given the right service could cause you lots of problems.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?
I think he'll go for Gestede up top with two pacey players either side. Two from Agbonlahor, Sinclair and Ayew.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?
He's as capable of anyone we could realistically get. So far so good. His summer signings have been adventurous and he's clearly identified our areas of weakness. It may not pay off, but it won't be for the want of trying. He's not gone the route everyone expect either. We've not been loaded with tried and tested signings from the Prem (particularly Spurs cast offs).

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?
Potentially we could be a surprise package. It depends if our signings settle well. There's plenty of talent. We're hoping for the same effect as when Big Ron first came in and swept the place clean, or indeed Brian Little in 95.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?
Not one player, but several. We put far too much on Benteke's shoulders. He did keep us up for 3 seasons, but we need to have more players winning games and scoring goals for us.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?
Amavi. Of course it's only one game in, but he looked good in pre-season too. Gueye looks good too and Richards should have a big season if he stays fit.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?
Yes. As long as he stays grounded and works hard. We don't want him to get too swept up in his own hype. We've seen too many lads come through our academy and get too much too soon and then not deliver/develop. Grealish has more talent than I've seen from one of our lads, since Hendrie and Barry.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?
He's quick. That's all I know.

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?

It should be an exciting game with lot of new players in both team. It will be first time for a long time we will fancy our chance against Manchester United. It will be first time we seen new players in Villa team at Villa Park.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?
Attacking formation within 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 formation and we will go for it. Should be a high scoring games like 3-2 win for one of the team.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?
Yes as he is doing thing differently and looking good so far. When he is appointed I thought he is a bad choice, but we were proven wrong so far :)

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?
I think we will be between 6th - 12th at the end of season, but that depend on how quickly we gel.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?
Rudy Gestede but we will have a much stronger team and hopefully more goals spread round as we rely too much on him last season.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?
Can't comment as I not seen anyone in action yet. But I think Jordon Amavi could be the one.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?
Yes as long he work hard and focus on football and develops his goal scoring and setting up goals, he have the skills.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?
No idea as I don't know anything about him yet.

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?

We tend to always lose this one. 1-0 Villa then.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?

It'll be high-tempo about 4 or 5 games in but hit and miss whilst we feel our way into this. Best time to play the top teams. We'll be 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?

Yes. But there again forward from Lambert? McLeish? Not that difficult really.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?

More of the same. 5 years of tedious, dull, or defeatist football is hard to wash away. Our last game of 2014-15 didn't help either.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?

No-one he's too good. But we will change the way we approach the games and goals will come from all over rather than just one person.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?

Amavi

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?

he has the potential we'll just have to wait and see.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?

A good time to play you but I doubt if we will get anything. The ref will see to that.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?
A lot more creative and attacking than we have seen for a very long time. Probably 4 -3-3 for this one but he will change the system to suit.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?

It is very early days but in comparison to the idiots we have had to put up with I hope so.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season? 12th

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke? A combination of Gestede and a n other.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far? Amavi.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game? Yes if he can keep his head together.

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?

First time I've looked forward to this fixture for years.  We should be on somewhat of a high and as last weekend proved, Manchester United still have a sense of vulnerability that has been exhibited post Ferguson.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?

I think he has the options now to have a flexible approach to formation and tactics.  If Gestede plays, I would expect us to mix things up a bit and go direct at times.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?

The jury is still out.  He had a good start, but got things badly wrong in the FA Cup final.  He seems to have been very proactive this summer and it has to be remembered that he is still learning as a top flight manager.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?

Hopefully to avoid being anywhere near the relegation zone.  If the team gels and some of the new signings do well, we could be looking at a top ten finish.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?

In short, no one player will fill that void.  We need to be a better team overall, with more players chipping in with goals and conceding less.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?

Really like the look of Gueye in midfield.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?

Was a revelation at times last season, but needs to add goals to his game if he is to become a top player.  Those could come with age.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?
Think it will be closer than they often are when we play your lot, you don't look up to speed yet and If we can get balls in to Gestede I don't know how well Blind will cope with him.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?
Depends on a few things but I'd expect a back 4, 2 fairly deep midfielders and then some combination of 4 in front of them, Sherwood doesn't seem to have a settled formation.

3. What positions do you need to strengthen? Who would be the players you would want brought in?
I think we're close to the limit of how many players we can bring in, we need someone with pace and skill to play on the right so the links to Adama Traore are promising.  Other than that I think we're ok, maybe another central defender if Sherwood doesn't trust Senderos and Baker as backup.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?
I think he the right man for us right now, we needed someone bold and positive who'd get the fans behind him after 4 years of largely shit football and dour management.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?
8-12, strong enough to be safe in midtable but not ready to challenge for europe.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?
I'm not sure we need to, as a squad we're much stronger now so as good as he is I think the £32.5m was probably more important to us than him this summer.  I'm surprised your lot didn't go for him though, I think he'd have been an excellent signing for you.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?
Amavi, as you may have realised already, has impressed a lot of fans very quickly, he's quick, 2 footed and plays on his toes so he reacts very quickly.  For the stattos he was the best left back in europe last season on whoscored.com and it's quickly becoming clear why that was the case.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?
Yes, he has a lovely low centre of gravity which means he drifts away from defenders effortlessly, he needs to add more end product but that's not unusual for a young attacking midfielder.  On top of that he's more than happy to draw players in even if he ends up taking a few kicks.  He'll play centre mid long term and will be a very good one.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?
We don't know much but he is apparently very quick and is highly thought of.  He made his first appearance for our U21s when he was 15 so he must have something about him.

3. What positions do you need to strengthen? Who would be the players you would want brought in?
I am not convinced with either Right Back or Goalkeeper. Another Goal scorer would be nice and a commanding centre midfielder, this may change subject to how good the new players are.

We do need to move a few on.

Hes got time on the ball. So yes.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?
He's amazing and worth at least £50m.

1 question in reply, given how often Man Utd fans have, in the past, criticised Chelsea and Man City for buying the title how do you feel about the ridiculous levels of spending you've completed in the last 2 summers?

A very good point - The Manx I work with say if they are United claim that City "buy" their way to success whilst United "restructure"

As is said you cannot have a reasonable football debate with these wankers

You could have a Gary Glitter  / Blues  / Baggies / Tony Blair combined team and I would not hate them any more than I do these fuckers

Every single thing that is wrong with modern football can be placed at the foot of their door - and they just cannot see why everyone despises them - they arrogantly think it due to their successes

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game?

a) It shouldn't be on a Friday
b) For the first time in ages no idea how it will play it out.  We could really stick it to you (crosses fingers) or be on the end of a right twatting.  Regardless of how tempting the odds look don't bet on 0-0, it's not Lambert in charge.

2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?

Team & Formation - see Q1.
Brand of football.  First fuck off with marketing speak. Style wise we'll definitely be going for it.  It will either be pretty direct with Gestede or Kozak as a focal point, or something more fluid , maybe with Ayew as the focal point.  Good depend on whether Gil or Grealish are fit.

3. What positions do you need to strengthen? Who would be the players you would want brought in?

A right back to match Amavi would really be the cherry on the top of a the most exciting & promising summer transfer period since Ron Atkinson in 1991.
If we could find a better back up to Ciaran Clark and dispense with Senderos that would be a bonus.

4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?

From where were Mike Bassett could have taken us forward.  Long term who knows, he could prove to be an inspired appointment or someone who hits a wall, without progressing much from the level he's already achieved (which mirrors his time at Spurs - some really good results with some shocking performances and results  thrown in.) When he was appointed I said he'd keep us up and be in the shit by November.  I change that to he'll do alright this year, but by the end of next season (2016/17) we'll have stopped making progress at 8-10th and the murmurings of discontent will have started.  That will definitely represent progress

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?

Inconsistency, ending up 10-14th, as we'll start comparatively poorly with the odd good performance, with it swinging to the opposite the season progresses. We'll finish the season as one of the form teams.
2 good cup runs. Finally win the Holy Grail of Villa fans.

6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?

No one.  The team's style will alter and the goals he scored will be covered by being more spread out across the team. Scott Sinclair to surprise a few people.

7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?

Amavi & Gueye.

8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?

If he wants to and is prepared to invest the time / discipline required,  yes.

9. Tell us more about Andre Green?

No. Not going to help your lot or either of your neighbours/Chelsea/ Arsenal recruit a youngster and ruin his career by putting him in a position where his head is turned by the ego massage & money of joining one of the money teams and never playing for 3-4 years to be spat out at 20ish to find his level is now Nottingham Forest or Blackburn as they stand today, because he missed out on first team football at suitably high level during his most important development years

I seem to remember that when the Glazers bought your club  part of the £800 million was a loan of about £300 million from RBS.
Seeing as RBS is now majority owned by the British taxpayer we demand our money back.
There, that's another reason to hate you glory hunting tourist twats.

1. Not our favourite home fixture for various reasons. Apologies if you are actually from Manchester and do actually sit in the away seating.

2. More attacking than McLeish and less suicidal defending than Lambert hopefully.

3. Yes I was there on Boxing Day 1989 when you wanted Fergie out.

4. From what we have seen so far yes because make no mistake we were going down before he arrived.

5. Hopefully avoid yet another relegation battle. They are very draining on the soul.

6. I think Sherwood has been clever by bringing in more than one option, especially as he was our only striker who could actually score goals.

7. All of them because we won!

8. The jury is still out for me.

9. I can't, sorry.

1. What are your thoughts on Friday's game? Game on a Friday> do not like. Match v Manu always hate it  becuse you win and the Brummies reds. There is nothing more in life I dislike (on trivia basis) than the Brummie RED scum. FFS WHY DO YOU SUPPORT A TEAM FROM ANOTHER TOWN. This is football it's supposed to be "tribal". Us against them...(so you can see I am getting madder as I write this)
2. What team, formation and brand of football can we expect from Sherwood?
I actually don't know. Have not figured out Sherwood yet. I was at Bmounth last saturday and very surprised by his hold back first half. I didn't think he was capable of that.4. Is Sherwood the manager to take Villa forward?
For me no. I think we should have Gary Monk but lets  give him a full season to see.

5. What are your expectations for the 2015-16 season?
Safe from any threat of relagation and a boring mid table finish. League Cup final amd may be FA cup again!
6. Who will fill the void left by Benteke?
It can not be filled in the short term and I am very surprised your man didn't sign him. He would have suited his pragmatict approach  very well.
7. Which of the new signings has most impressed so far?
Amavi the left back is very very good (hands off) and Gestede did well.8. Does Grealish have what it takes to reach the top of the game?
Yes he has talent however he is capable of pissing it down the drain with his off field activities. He could be as good as Brian Little. (if you know who that is?)
9. Tell us more about Andre Green?
Super boy leave him alone he will be a star.

They are a bit, in fairness. But let's not kid ourselves as to the reason why. The most supported and most detested club in equal measure, bar none. And everybody who's been going to the football for 20 years or so and isn't a Man U supporter is fully aware of the reasons why.

Fair play to the guy who came on asking the questions and also to the people who responded in good spirit in the most part, but make no mistake, Utd are hated by many and rightly so.

Any other fans, the born again Chelsea, the cocky Arsenals, the pretentious Spurs fans I can stomach and even discuss footballing matter

not those fuckers

The last home game a very good friend of mine had a couple of northern friends come down to watch the game (a man and wife who in fairness do go everywhere with Utd) and were stopping over. He asked if I met them after the game could I give them a lift to their hotel. Of course I would. Soon as we were in the car with a guy they had never met I got the "You must be happy with a point from United, a little club like yours"
If he had not been built like a brick shithouse I would have smacked him one but I did have a rant at them both to which he was not best pleased, neither was my friend. They are stopping at the same hotel this time - I have not been asked  ;)

Until we started signing all these players from the French league 'Andre' was plain old Andrew or Andy. That's all I know about him.

In the interest of balance I know a lot of Manchester United supporters (don't we all?) and most of them are good people who go to support their team. The ones who tell you they don't go to the match as they can't get a ticket are the ones I really don't like. I saw a lot of empty seats at Old Trafford last season, they can't be trying very hard.
