I was wrong about the likely line up and I'm happy about that team and presumably 433 (assuming the players are genuinely ready)

Harsh on Kozak but he looked way off v forest and I'd pick gestede over him as an impact sub

Gabby holds the ball up better up to than Kozak. Almost Heskey like use of his strength I think fit the other two to pay alongside him. Kozak not involved is a big sign another forward is on the way.

Maybe Kozak's picked up a knock seeing as he's not even in the squad? Gestede excepted, it's a pretty uninspiring bench.

Just have to batter them with our first team.

Maybe Kozak has missed 18months with a serious injury and has only played a few friendlies against lower league opposition where his performances have been inconsistent. #whydopeoplealwayslookfortheworst

My guess on Gabby is Sherwood is that he'll play horses for courses this season. He's gone small and fast today so we are going to play it on the deck and try and get behind Bournemouth with the ability to switch it up if needed with Gestede on the bench.

I do wonder why Kozak isn't involved though?

Creative options a bit thin if our Francophile struggle,  just an ageing Cole on the bench. Hopefully Jack and Jil are back sharpish.

Surprised Kozak and Gil aren't even in the squad. Gil must be getting pretty pissed off.

Anyway, on a positive note as long as the new signings gel quickly, there should be enough there to get all three points.

2-1 to Villa.

We wont be keeping a clean sheet with that side but should have no problem creating chances. 2-2

I hope we get him running at the Bournemouth defenders. Same goes for Ayew and Sinclair. There's a big onus on Veretout today I feel.

I expected them to build something above the stand with scaffolding as a temporary TV gantry. I know they didn't make changes to their ground or expand which is fine but they are likely to be on TV a few times this season so that might have been a consideration.

Crowded in midfield. Just need to be patient I think. Our pace up front should benefit from the game getting stretched out a bit more later.

Bournemouth have really launched a lot of balls into the box with very little quality. They better have more than that tactic over the course of the season if they want to stay up. We've dealt with things pretty well at the back overall. Our midfield players and forwards look like they haven't played much together. No shock there.

Very poor. It's clear it'll take a lot of time for players to settle. No one has really played well. Idrissa has been okay. Guzan has done well, and a good save at the end of the half. But no one else looks like they've turned up ready.
Ayew looks completely lost, but in fairness to him he prefers playing through the middle, and if not there, the left. So he's looked bewildered on the right and has given the ball away every time he's had it (which is about 4-5 times probably).

Why is Westwood taking corners?  Hasn't there been more than enough evidence over the last 3 years that he's shit at them?

All that fucking floated rubbish he does. An absolute waste of set pieces.

I thought we'd see Veretout taking them. Westwood is a nice nothing footballer.

On the down side: that was pretty shit, I get the feeling we might have another season of not scoring many goals.

On the positive side: Veretout has seen plenty of the ball, Richards looks good.

Only the first game of the season, mind.

Anyone else's feed go to the Everton match for the end of their first half? They were getting very loudly booed off.

Booing the team in the first game of the season? What bastards. Scum. Subhuman scum. Hope the media slaughter them.

I expect they think the ref has got it in for them, they always do, bless them. Still, I'm sure Cleverley will rescue them second half

We're lucky not to be at least 2 nil down. Guzan with a couple of great saves and a shocking miss have saved our blushes.

I'm really struggling to see what we're trying to do. Asolutely no service up front, we're pushed wide and we produce nothing from it.

Hopefully we can improve second half and actually have a shot on target.

Just seen Albrighton put in 2 fantastic crosses for Leicester. We need to do the same.

I'm not sure what we were all expecting. Think most of us realised that with a huge change in personnel and an early start to the season we were pretty unlikely to be a really cohesive unit.

Bournemouth are full of confidence at home first game of the season, we're 0-0. Not good but not the time for wrist-slitting.

dreadful deliveries x 2 from Westwood there

mistake each from Richards and Clark could have cost us two goals earlier. Both really bad ones, Richards standing and watching the chance develop with his hands in the air was shocking. Clark trying to play offside for the second one, kind of mistake a new centre back partnership might make. Bonkers yellow card from Clark to finish the half off and Guzan has to make another save afterwards.

Last 15 mins, they were all over us and they should be at least 1 ahead. The half passed Ayew by and Im not sure what position Veretout is supposed to be playing. He seems to be far too deep to influence the game.

Wouldnt be surprised to see Gestede and even Cole come on at the break and for us to go a bit more direct second half. Bit Lambert esque from us as the half went on, unnecessary passing back and forth to the keeper good for the possession stats but not much else. We are trying to play Bournemouth on their terms, lets stick Gestede up there and play off him instead of trying to play through Bournemouth. Not sure if its just the camera angle but it seems a very tight pitch.

Bournemouth haven't exactly flown out the traps themselves. I was expecting to see a side which played flowing football but that style seems to have been replaced by a more pragmatic style of well-organised defence and a midfield which launches the ball forward. They've played their part in a dull match so far.

Ayew playing excellent in the ghost position and Gabby's clearly been told to stay up and wait for Guzan's long ball, only problem is that 99% of the time it never makes it to him.

Sinclair has been the best player, shame everyone else gets themselves in the worst position possible when he has the ball.

You can't ignore the fact that this is Bournemouth's first home game in the top flight, to that end, it was always going to be tough, whoever they got.

I think Barton's been pretty insightful with his analysis. Likened Westwood's corner to McAllister in his Leeds days when Joey would have only been a nipper.
