As Exciting as it is to be signing players for once I’m beginning to wonder how our squad will line up this year as from what I can see we are going to be over our 25 man squad.
On the basis that the transfers on Adebayor, Gestede and Veretout go through the squad potentially looks like this:
1 GK Brad Guzan
2 GK Jed Steer
3 GK Mark Bunn
4 DF Alan Hutton
5 DF Ciaran Clark
6 DF Joe Bennett
7 DF Jordan Amavi
8 DF Jores Okore
9 DF José Ángel Crespo
10 DF Micah Richards
11 DF Nathan Baker
12 MF Ashley Westwood
13 MF Carles Gil
14 MF Carlos Sánchez
15 MF Gary Gardner
16 MF Idrissa Gueye
17 MF Joe Cole
18 MF Leandro Bacuna
19 MF Scott Sinclair
20 MF Jordan Veretout
21 FW Gabriel Agbonlahor
22 FW Jordan Ayew
23 FW Libor Kozák
24 FW Rudy Gestede
25 FW Emmanuel Adebayor
This would leave 5 players under contract who Villa would have to get rid of as they could not play them:
1 DF Aly Cissokho
2 DF Philippe Senderos
3 MF Charles N'Zogbia
4 MF Kieran Richardson
5 MF Aleksandar Tonev
What are peoples thoughts on the above squad and would you pick it differently?
-
I would imagine Senderos will replace Baker and Richardson will replace Bennett. I'd be very surprised if Baker and Bennett are not sold or loaned out.
-
I'm not certain Joe Cole will be in the 25 either.

Or Gardner.
-
Get nzogbia and gabby off that list and I'll let Tim teabag me.
-
Amavi doesn't need to be included so that's 1 extra spot.
-
Baker, Bennet, Cole, Gardner possibly won't be on that list, so that could mean potentially 4 more new signings!
-
Amavi counts as U21 and doesn't count towards the 25.
-
We are going to have real depth this season and there may be players missing from the match day 18 that are just unlucky not to get in. What a luxury considering some of the subs benches we've fielded in recent seasons.

Its actually looking more exciting than I thought
If I honestly had the choice between this and keeping Snake and Benteke and adding maybe 2/3 new faces only then I would choose what we have over it every day and sunday
Actually from doom I am as excited about coming season as I have been for many years - I appreciate they will take time to bed in but feel we have bought very wisely and should make a return on almost all of the purchases in years to come
-
You've forgotten Grealish?
-
Just thinking but if Jack Grealish declares for England and has a good season his value goes up to around 45m.
-
You've forgotten Grealish?
He doesn't need to be on this list
-
There are rumours Baker is off to Burnley so one more space potentially. I think TS would be mad to leave Richardson out. He only had a couple of bad games last season, both of which when he was unfit and having to play due to extensive injury list. People are quick to forget the good performances as I think he is not a FIFA marquee name, if you get my drift. With all of the new faces, i think his experience and versatility make him a definate 'keep'.
-
If Richardson agree to change his name to Jordan then keep - if not ofski
Must be on high wages
And has a ridiculous Bam Bam pony tail
-
The Tim revolution is a lot more exciting than the MON retirees' gravy train and the Lambo downward spiral transition! 😀
-
Never thought I was going to be this excited. Three weeks ago I was in deep depression !!!
Guzan Bunn
Hutton/Bacuna Richards/Crespo/Sendeross/Clark Armavi/Richardson/Kinsella
Veretoute/Gueye/Westwood/Sanchez/Sinclair/Gil/Grealish
Ayew/Adebayor/Kojak/Gestede/Gabby/Robinson
Massive upgrade ........

You're missing Okore from the centre backs
-
Would still like us to shell out a bit on a Centre back who can go straight into the team. Though Senderos didn't let us down last season, he isn't long term, Okore is still finding his feet in England, Richards may end up at full back, only Clarke is a guaranteed starter in my eyes. A giant Dane or Swede would be good.

I can't speak for the Swedes or Norwegians, but we've already got the best Danish centre back in my opinion.
The current paring for the national team is Agger (who looked out of his depth in the Supaliga last season playing for Brřndby) and Simon Kćr who's slightly more robust and less accident prone than Baker.

Even Legion is less accident prone than Nathan

Baker, Cissokho are on their way it appears. I think Gardner will be in the 25, not sure why he would not. I think Bennett will be too, and Richardson will be off. I also reckon Steer will go out on loan with Guzan and Bunn being the keepers named.
I also think there will be 2 more names, possibly 3 that we don't know yet.
-
Guzan (Bunn, Steer)
Richards (Hutton, Bacuna) New CB (Okore) Clark (Crespo) Amavi (Richardson)
Westwood (Sanchez) Gueye (Gardner)
Veretout
Grealish (Gil) Adebayor (Gestede, Kozak) Ayew (Gabby, Sinclair)
25 names there although seems you can name Amavi in the under 21s so frees up a spot.
Excluded:
Baker
Senderos
Cissokho
Bennett
Tonev
Joe Cole
N'zogbia.

I must say this is the most exciting pre season I can remember

I would change Sanchez for Westwood (just) and Gil for Grealish most definately.
