Aston Villa v Fulham Saturday 11.7.15
2-0 win.
Sinclair
Agbonlahor
-
3-0 Villa win.
-
A-A, match abandoned due to lack of interest.
-
Boldmere 1-1 Villa. HT.
See its not all doom and gloom.
-
Fulham will be ahead of us on fitness , I see us losing this 1-3

Haha fuck me. You predicting doom and gloom in pre season. None of us would have seen that coming.
-
Does anybody know what time this is kicking off?
-
2-1
Richards
Benteke
-
Fulham will be ahead of us on fitness , I see us losing this 1-3
It's only a training game, so it won't really matter if we do.

Agree and there'll only be a handful of people watching the game live and on avtv.

18:30
-
Would be good if kozak and Gardner look sharp
-
Not precisely Villa but Stan Petrov takes a midlands XI to Boldmere St Michaels to take on a non league XI led by Tom Stevenson, the Boldmere captain who is battling Motor Nurone disease.
Lots of Villa old players on board, £7 quid in, all proceeds to chariddee.
-
Probably a 1-1 draw
-
this isn't a proper game and we'll use close to every player in the squad. It means nothing at all and it is gauge of fitness and implementing new ideas and concepts. It will be interesting to see what positions players play for example. Over the course of the summer of the existing squad will be curious to see how Kozak, Gil, Gardner, Donacien and Robinson do. It would be great to see one or two of these lads come in or come back in and make an impact.
-
Already making excuses for Sherwood, TV? ;)
You're right though but winning is a nice habit.

Nah, just too old to change in trying not to be negative although following this lot doesn't half test it. Yes, winning is a good habit which is what we have to create off course. For too long we have gotten used to winning which is something Sherwood identified earlier on. Lambert accepted and embraced it. I never want to go back to those days.
-
I wish we had gotten used to winning.
-
I'd go
-------- Bunn ---------
Rico - okore -- donaciaen - Bennett
Gardner. Westwood Sanchez Tonev
Kozak. Gabby.

Delph on the bench then? :)

I love pre season, we can't get relegated during pre season :)

You wouldn't think that to read some people's comments following a pre-season defeat.

LINEUP vs Fulham:
Steer, Baker, Richards, Bacuna, Richardson, Mason, Cole, Gil, N’Zogbia, Robinson, Agbonlahor
SUBS: Watkins, Donacien, Clark, Sinclair, Senderos, Benteke, Hutton, Gardner, Cissokho, Tonev, Kozak, Calder, Green, Grealish

AVTV was £5 last year for the pre season matches. £24 this year. ???

At 380% that increase is slightly ahead of the current YOY CPI rate of 0.1%.

I had no idea who Mason was so looked him up - http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-portugal-lowdown-18-year-old-9636558
-
Richards as CB I presume?
The midfield out there shows we still need a fair bit of strengthening even with Delph and Gueye still to comeback.
-
Where's Westwood ? Sanchez will still be on his hols I'd think
-
I've heard of Mason but who's this Gil bloke?
-
Almost feel sorry for Mason in that midfield. Looks like he'll be the only doing the defensive duties.
-
Blimey, I'd clean forgotten about Tonev. I hope someone's notified local air traffic control
-
N'ZOGBIA seeing his name boils my piss!!
-
AVTV stream is pretty decent.
-
Aye it is. Very nice.
-
Mason starting. Nice to get a look at him.
-
No Benteke on Subs bench. Here we go...
-
my avtv not working!!!
-
No Benteke on Subs bench. Here we go...
Bit of a relief to be honest. It felt weird not having anything to get angry about for a few minutes there :)
-
my avtv not working!!!
Mine isnt, tried it on android and ipad
-
Good shot Robinson
-

Mine is! Ding ding conductor! :D
-
Gil, Robinson & Bacuna looking sharp.
-
Great block from Baker.
-
Baker is impressing me.
-
Stream not working on iPad , moving to laptop
-
We really need to be playing Gil next season
-
Gil is just vastly better than Nzogbia so far.
-
I won't post any streams here, I know I'm not allowed but I've found a good one. If anyone wants to PM me I can post the link...
It's French mind you.
-
working fine on desktop after no luck with android and ipad
-
welp, i've started saying "for fucks sake N'Zogbia!" early this season :/
-
Jed a bit slow coming out....goal fulham
-
Fulham leading 0-1.
-
Soft
-
Lol. Fulham up. Pretty much against the run of play though.
welp, i've started saying "for fucks sake N'Zogbia!" early this season :/
Same, I think he has got worse.
Gil on the other hand has been excellent.
-
Stream frozen for me
-
This pitch isn't the best
-
N'zogbia is useless. Gil is quality.
-
Gabs hair is going all McLaren on him.
-
Fulham leading 0-1.
Boo, Delph out.
-
Seeing the kit under normal conditions I have to say its very, well, samey.
Looking forward to losing Macron and hopefully getting Fox to work his magic with Adidas or Puma.
-
Westwood not on corner duty....Hooray!
-
Mason looks very comfortable
-
Trying to connect on iPhone, just get spinning wheel
-
Mason looks very comfortable
Yeah looks like the sitter and Westy playing more box to box.
-
Good effort Heal
-
Has Gabby touched the ball yet ?!
Nice to see potato head in the stadium watching
-

Once when he was offside I think.
Why's Potato there, Fulham fist game of the season?
-
Stream frozen for me
Let it go! :)
-
Nah think he's got a place out there so something to do I suppose
-
It's a friendly and Fulham are playing 8 behind the ball.
-
Does Gabby even know how to play as a striker, he never runs into the box anticipating.
-
Mason looks very comfortable
Yeah looks like the sitter and Westy playing more box to box.
I've always thought Westwood looks better, more effective, when he plays further up the pitch. Compressing the space between the elements, as it were.
-
Sorry to see the back of Gil & Robinson, chuffed to see the back of N'Zog & Gabby.
-
Subs - Watkins, Donacien, Clark, Sinclair, Senderos, Benteke, Hutton, Gardner, Cissokho, Tonev, Kozak, Calder, Green, Grealish
Like to see the return of Libor, much better than Gabby.
And just for shits and giggles, Tonev....
-
Tonev shooting here could be a problem to passing motorists
-
Does Gabby even know how to play as a striker, he never runs into the box anticipating.
Welcome. First game? Always nice to have new fans on board......
-
Given up on avtv

Stream down for HT ?? Is that standard practice ?

Yeah, when I typed it I wondered how many times that exact sentence has been posted on match days.
-

surely though if the mandate is claret bodies, blue sleeves the logo on the kit won't make that much of a difference? And if then another company comes in and completely changes the design there will be on outcry from traditionalists. For example really Arsenal under Nike or Puma look like Arsenal. As they should.

Gabby up front is terrible now. I'd sooner we played Robinson up front and Sinclair on the left. We'll see how we look with the changes because up to the penalty area we look good.
-

Its up for me. Pictures of crowd & pitch & replays.

The Muller one, stripes...?
I'm not suggesting an overhaul, but I've got the Mitre shirt with the lace neck....I don't know if its colour or sheen but for me it looks better than the shirts now. They all look cheap and tacky to me these days.
-
Lots of changes...
-
Oh look its Joe Cole.
Sherwood reckons we have this one won then :)
-
Mr Gardner, time to step up, we've been waiting for a while.
-
Frozen. Refreshed. Got logged out. Logged back in. All good now.
-
Has Joe Cole had a Rooney?
-
Completely different Villa line-up.
-
Great to see Kozak back
-
Could someone who is able to watch list the new team, please?
-
Bloody hell Sissoko's put some heft on!
-
Donacien any good?
-
Completely different Villa line-up.
Care to share for those of us currently indisposed?
-
Could someone who is able to watch list the new team, please?
Looks like ... Watkins, Donacien, Senderos, Clark, Cissokho, Gardner, Calder, Tonev, Cole, Sinclair, Kozak.
-
2nd half...
Watkins, Donacien, Senderos, Clark, Cissokho, Gardner, Calder, Tonev, Cole, Sinclair, Kozak

Ta very much.
-
LIBOOOOOOOR
-
Cant believe Tonev is still a Villa player. Did he appear at all last season in the first team?
-
LEEEEEBOOOORRR!!!!!!!!
-
1-1
-
Kozak took that well!
-
Welcome back he does look class.
-
We're gonna win the league, we're gonna win the league!
-
1-1. Kozak. Love it.
-
BIG LIBOR IS BACK
I love that guy
-
Always liked Kozak.
-
He'll play a big part I reckon this season, if Ciaran stays away from him in training.
-
Get in LK
-
Was it a good goal as I can't find my sodding AVTV code!
-
Great to see Kozak back
As I was saying. He is a quality finisher
-
Was it a good goal as I can't find my sodding AVTV code!
Composed finish
-
Was it a good goal as I can't find my sodding AVTV code!
Yes nice ball from Cole and a very tidy composed finish by the big man
-
Oh jesus did Sherwood really just do the doggie style slap yo ass celebration?
Cant unsee.
-

Sorry. E-mail notifications stopped again.
-
Was it a good goal as I can't find my sodding AVTV code!
Goal of the Season so far.
-
He went to Celtics on season loan.
-
In the five minutes of watching my corrupt Uncle's stream, Kozak has looked like the real deal.
-
I like how we are trying to play. Neat passing and some variety in our movement
-
Good finish. He looks knackered but imagine it's bloody hot
-

Cant unsee.
Great description for those without AVTV.
-
In the five minutes of watching my corrupt Uncle's stream, Kozak has looked like the real deal.
He invites the challenge,he is one clever cookie.
-
Cheers chaps.
-
Some crisp passes from Pringle.
-
Fuck 2-1 Fulham. Lovely goal
-
Poor Swiss Phil, 1-2
-
Nice goal Fulham
-
Defence went walkabout.
-
Tonev not looking as terrible as usual
-
Lambert out.
-
Oh dear. 1-2.
-
Is Tekkers on ?
-
Is Tekkers on ?
Nope.
-
Is Tekkers on ?
Not in the squad. In Liverpool having a medical
-
Donacien is impressing me
-
Coles injury ridden career is a crying shame. You can see in his moments of brilliance just how great a player he could have been.
-
Oh dear, wonder if he has been a naughty boy and told TS he wants out.
TS has told him bollox and left him on bench to teach him lesson.
Benteke will apologise for being a cock jockey.
Kozak and Tekkers tear every team apart next season and we win the league...
-

Clouded memories. Admittedly he's never been Benteke, but the lad can play. I'm glad to see him back.
-

Probably not playing for the same reasons that Hutton and Sanchez aren't: been on international duty
-
Where's Okore? Injured?
-

Most likely all the internationals who played after the cup final are missing and he happens to be one of them.
-
Kozak is playing very well indeed.
-
Is Bennett on the bench ?
-
Where's Okore? Injured?
This as well
-
Calder has looked quite tidy
-
I am glad we won't be relying on Gardner to be central to our midfield plans next season.
No offense to the lad but at his age he should not be this slow, Cole is quicker FFS.
-
Soft, again!
-
Sherwood out! :)
-
Haha Silhillvilla I owe you an apology. 3-1 Fulham
-
What's Clark doing there
-
Villa 1 Fulham 3
-
Piss poor that!
-
Not watching but that's the worry w Gardner. Painfully slow when I've seen him. Hoped he would improve after some injury free months
-
1-3
-
Should have been 1-4.
-
Jesus should of been 4 there
-
Not watching but that's the worry w Gardner. Painfully slow when I've seen him. Hoped he would improve after some injury free months
He was involved in the defensive cock up for the goal as well. Not good.
Decent deadball though, as always.
-
Shocking at the back this half.
-
Haha Silhillvilla I owe you an apology. 3-1 Fulham
A nice £80 up if it stays like this
-
There's Tonev!
Only forty yards high and wide of the goal this time. Getting closer.
-
It's a friendly and they'll be rusty so not commenting on that specifically
But since Sherwood arrived the number of defensive mistakes leading to goals is incredible. More than in lambert's first season, pro rata. And that was bad
-
Haha theres the horrible Tonev shot!
-
A Tonev special to end the game :)
-
Fuckin Tonev.
There is not a footballer in there somewhere.
-
That Tonev shot has just passed through Spanish immigration
-
we are missing our captain!!
-
That Tonev shot has just passed through Spanish immigration
...and out the other side into the Mediterranean.
-
I'm just glad this was a pre season friendly we need to put some work in on the training ground.
-
We're about forty minutes into preseason so there's not much point to comment on the game.
However, I do like the look of Kozak. He's a massive lump and picked up or laid off everything that came near him. Nice finish too.
-
Nice to see Steve Gough there folding his flag up now
-
It would be interesting to see Benteke and Kozak get a run of games together and get into form.
-
Did micah have no impact in defence ?
-
Did micah have no impact in defence ?
He played pretty well in the first half, which was really all except their goal and one other proper chance. He made a good covering interception too
-
Still a lot of work to do this Summer, but we all knew that anyway. Need another striker even if Benteke goes. Also a proper keeper and two full backs.
-
I'm happy fir kozak. Any other news on how match was for players
-
We've been back in training for a week. The game was just a fitness exercise for the players.
-
Has anyone got our full pre-season schedule, I know we have another game in Portugal v Bristol city, the obligatory Walsall game and a game vs Swindon but I've forgotten who our marquee friendly is against this year ??
-

Together? No way. Martin oneill isn't coming back
-

Don't they usually name the 'marquee' team closer to the game?

Oh I guess so yes, so we can have a crowd like the Parma one

*shrugs*

Have you tried doing something like looking on the official website?
-
I don't think we are playing an overseas team this year
-
I don't think we are playing an overseas team this year
We are, I took advice and checked , Braga I think we played them before under mcleish in a pre season (1-1)
-
What date? the weekend before is Forest away which is when we usually play these games.
-
What date? the weekend before is Forest away which is when we usually play these games.
We play them 17 July away so no home marquee game this year.
Possibly due to the Parma lockout .

-
wasn't it mentioned that there was building/maintenance work going on at VP.
maybe that's why there's no home friendly.
also, the season staring earlier might have impacted the schedule
-
Lost 3 1 to Fulham 22 players used, no Bennett No Benteke and no Hutton or Okore and Bunn, Delph oviously over here expecting the birth of his child.
-
What was the attendance for the Fulham game ? ;)
-
2000 seat stand looked nearly full, so not a bad turnout.
-
Lost 3 1 to Fulham 22 players used, no Bennett No Benteke and no Hutton or Okore and Bunn, Delph oviously over here expecting the birth of his child.
No Guzan, No Sanchez, might as well include everyone who missed out.
Okore and Bennett are the only odd ones as the others had either just signed or had played in June and deserved a bit of a break. Okore probably not fully fit though but I think the writing is on the wall for Bennett.
-
I don't think Bennett travelled and as we're trying to sign Amavi , it's probably safe to assume that he's for sale.
-
Next match v Sporting Braga in Albufeira on Friday 17.7.15 KO at 6.30pm
1-0 win.
Sinclair
-
Not keen on them. They're a very boastful side.
-
As we improve our fitness and throw off the rusts of Vegas / Marbella / Tenerife , we will cut out the errors and be fitter. Braga 2-1 Villa
-
Not keen on them. They're a very boastful side.
That was dreadful
-
Benteke not named in the squad for tonight's game.
-
Cos he is in Liverpool having a medical
-
I thought that ST holders were meant to have been sent a code to access AVTV.
I haven't received one.
What's the easiest way to sort this out?
-
Cos he is in Liverpool having a medical
He's definitely in Portugal, just seen him getting off the bus on AVTV.
-
Benteke not named in the squad for tonight's game.
WTF!!! Why not?
-
Grealish not playing either. Is he injured ?
-
Grealish not playing either. Is he injured ?
Medical
-

I stand corrected
-
Tim looking preoccupied.
-
I'd stick Benteke on, get gabby to Fukin hack that ****** down, no, get Clark to fuck him up like libor, then fuk him off to the Scouse twats.
-
Oh to have had Benteke on the end of that cross.
-
Jim watts off sky is saying Benteke isn't available because of a slight back strain.
Yeah, from picking his new wage up...
-
That was a beautiful pass from Gil there.
-
What a beautiful through ball from Gil to Gabby.
-
Ah, Sinclair is playing.
-
Can't get avtv to stream >:(
-
Nice shot, Gabby.
-
Gabby turns into Hot Shot Hamish. Nice try.
-
We're looking pretty good. Midfield working well.
-
We're looking pretty good. Midfield working well.
We do.
Glad Gil is back in the fold, he looks very impressive.
I note how many chances we're failing to convert, mind.
-
Whats the team news? (apart from Delph and Benteke fuckin off)
-
Bunn
Hutton Richards Clark Cissokho
Westwood Gardner
Bacuna Gil Sinclair
Gabby
And then in the second half it's pretty much the bomb squad and the rest i.e Tonev, N'Zog etc
-
Fuck me...seeing that lineup literally just made me shit myself.
-
Yeah we need to get in some quality pretty sharpish
Not watching but would a fair summary be:
ClArk and Richards good but under little pressure
Gil best player on the pitch and a threat to grealish
Gardner ponderous
Wingers a bit ineffective
Lack of punch
?
-
Fuck me...seeing that lineup literally just made me shit myself.
Nasty - you're not sitting in K3 next season are you as there may be a few team sheets like that ;-)
-
I liked the bit where they showed some of the crowd sharing what was on their mobiles and looking really pissed off!
Generally though - they are looking pretty good but it's a bit dull.
-
Why isn't Delph playing?
-
Why isn't Delph playing?
He's probably at home counting his money and listening to U2.
The ******.
-
Why isn't Delph playing?
Busy writing his next sound byte.
I have moved to the greatest club in the world.
I will be here until the day I die.
It has been my life's ambition to sit on the bench.
#mcfc
-
Why isn't Delph playing?
Because he is s c***!
-
Apart from Gil I thought it was a game between to pub teams, the team in the yellow managed by Paul Lambert.
Even so, Cissokho, Bacuna and Sinclair look out of their depth.
#thingscanonlyimprove

Same here. On the plus side, my stream has just automtically switched to a had core porn movie called, no kidding, "Fuck the Stoler".
-
We look worryingly shite
-
Why isn't Delph playing?
He's arguing with Barry over who should take the penalty.
-
I know it's only a knockabout but we look very poor to me.
-
We look worryingly shite
Do you have a set list of miserablisms?
-

Do you have a set list of miserablisms?
No, just being honest.
-
2nd half is terrible!
-
I saw Northfield Town practicing earlier in the week, and it was better than this. Tim needs to get some scouts down to Shenley Lane.
-
Who's 29? He looks pretty good
Close from Charlie. We look quite laboured don't we?
-
Good free kick from Zog.
-

"Joe Cole, he looks fit"
Does he Jack? Looks like he's blowing out of arse to me.
-

Calder
Looks a big strong lad
-
great save Bunn
-
That was a cracking save.
-
blimey that was dull. What a fucking day it's been.
-
Well if it was that bad then Braga have more to worry about than us considering they finished 4th in the Portugese league and are in Europe next season.
-
First point of the season?
-
Mcleish would of been proud of that.
Didn't we play Braga in pre-season with mcleish ? 1-1 Zog scoring ours ??
-
I was there, first half ok, Gil and Gabby looked sharp, second half utter utter gash.
-
I've got a feeling Gil may start ahead of grealish come the season start? It's only three weeks away. With delph and cleverley going it would be a luxury to play both I think
Has there been a more deflating couple of months as a villa fan for years?
-
I was there, first half ok, Gil and Gabby looked sharp, second half utter utter gash.
No surprise with that second half team, it wouldn't win a single premier league game.
We need some players in and quick. There's just no goals in what we have presently.
-
Training matches now completed. On to the pre-season friendlies. Up next:
v Walsall FC at The Banks's Stadium Saturday 25.7.15 KO 3pm.

Swindon on tuesday ?
-
Ouch! Yes, you are quite correct. Thank you. That fixture is not listed on the Ticket page of the OS.
-
Friendly v Swindon (away) 7.45pm - Tuesday July 21
0-2
Sinclair
Kozak
-
Swindon 1 -1 Aston Villa (Libor Kozak 57)
-
Would be nice to score a few.
-
Well we're off the mark at least, was starting to think that they had let Lambert back in charge for pre-season ;)
Pleased for Kozak hope he can stay fit this season and have a good run in the side and step up to the plate.
-
Okore hasn't featured so I guess he is still recovering from his op. No Sanchez I guess he is having time off after playing for his Country No Herd I know he is out of contract but Timmy said he wanted to look at him over the summer, no Bennett and no Senderos. I saw the comment from Timmy it is hard to move some people as its so nice here. We still need a lot of work in the window. Goals are going to be rare at this rate.

Always quite liked Herd but see him more as a squad player than a full time starter, for certain games he can be effective though. I do hope that we go with Clark and Okore as the starting centre halves this season.

Reported elsewhere on another thread - can't remember which one - that he's turned down a short term contract (3 months I think) that would have allowed exactly that.

Them 0 Us 8
-
Just watched the braga game. Second half a complete non event except an encouraging performance from Calder and some ok stuff from nzogbia
First half we looked good. Unlucky not to score but goals don't look easy to come by w this lot. Gil was good (not as good as some had suggested, some saying he's done enough to get in ahead of jack - come on not yet!) gabby was the best player on the pitch. Thought Gardner looked quite good apart from a couple of moments. Weak down the wings and full back positions. Richards good.
Does anyone know when grealish will be fit?
-
What do we think the likelihood is of seeing either Gueye or Amavi tonight?
-
I think there might be something like a fifteen minute cameo from both, just to see how they might fit into whatever system he's trying.
-
Apologies in advance if this is the wrong thread.
Is anyone making the trip to Swindon this evening and, if so, can you recommend any pubs? I’m working in Avon for a few days and intend to make the trip across this evening and would be eager for company! Thanks.

I used to work in Swindon, and if you're getting the train in then there used to be a perfectly decent pub directly opposite the station that we used to go to in the event of delays (Queens Tap I think it was). Although I've not been there for half a decade.
Country Ground is then about 10 minutes walk away.

I can't even cut in. I miss Jack.

Ditto

4411 I'd think. Gil no 10
Grealish presumably injured still. So this isn't too far off our strongest 11. Gueye in for Gardner and possibly bacuna out for AN other
That team isn't good enough and will definitely be in a struggle. Not enough goals in it to start with.
Need some players in desperately
-
I can't even cut in. I miss Jack.
probably still using camera equipment from Doug's reign.....
-
Honestly, this is a joke.
Football clubs always seem keen to pounce on any extra revenue they can squeeze out of fangled new ideas like running their own coverage, but utterly incapable of actually guaranteeing any level of service.
They'll just expect the customers to shrug it off.
-
Seems to be chugging away ok now
hard work getting there though
-
avtv is just pathetic, where do you complain?
-
4-4-1-1/4-2-3-1 sort of thing then, with Bacuna and Sinclair wide of Gil and ahead of Westwood and Gardner, who I'm pleased to see in the plans. Also good to see Amavi in the team so quickly.
-
No Kozak then.
-
AVTV HD Rename it AVTV NE (non-existent) or just AVTV BS (when it does actually work - badly, that is).
-
Please report all and any issues so I can send feedback to the service providers.

How many error messages would you like?

All of them.

Freezes, reboots freezes, its wearing my dodgy knees out getting up to click play every 2 mins.

Aye working for me either. Getting a runtime error.

I can't get past the Server Error in / Application page.

Have a feeling we'll lose this one

Obviously the eagerness shown in the "taking the money off people" side of things is not reflected in the "making sure they get what they paid for" side.
-
Tried on android tablet, android tv box, PC. 50 mbps cable connection. All the same - Shit.
-
Has been ok for 5 mins now on my pc.

You'd think that maybe they'd tweet something to update people as to whether this is likely to change, but no, nothing at all.

#AVFCLive is quite ironic

avtv is just pathetic, where do you complain?
Thank you for your complaint via the reported post. It is nothing to do with us, by the way. Either contact the club directly or let me know your specific issues so I can pass them on.

Looking very shaky at the back.

They're apparently aware of the issues and are working hard to fix it.

Brilliantly Jack is telling those with server issues that the provider is working hard to resolve the problem.
They can't hear you Jack!
It took me about 20 minutes to get in but I'm there now.
-
Maybe Jacks dulcet tones broke the Internet?
-
It appears we are having a few issues as well. Anybody confirm Swindon are having most of the play?
-
With a midfield of Gardner, Bacuna and Westwood I'm not surprised. Championship quality.

Apparently we look sharp, especially when closing down our opponents.
Translation we are not seeing much of the ball.

Gil could become our own Zola. He's got a great eye for what's going on around him and if we can get an intelligent forward to play in front it could be very promising.

no arguments there. He was superb and chipped in with some outstanding goals too.

Yes, I heard that on WM this morning and it disturbed my equilibrium .

Bergkamp (he's in order)

Gil and Amavi the standouts so far. Richards looks like a small overweight child. But hasn't done much wrong.
Bacuna has looked like a very angry competition winner, aside from his help in setting up the goal.

Get in cambiasso and gueye, Matt Phillips on the right, and two centre forwards and this line up starts to look reasonable
I'm not yet convinced that Gil has the physical attributes to play that ten role in the league, but he does look good
Though he seems to be injured here

Gil went down soft there haha.

Carles Gil looks completely fucked. Ankles gone.

No ones included Paul McGrath in the top 10. Holy shit. He was PFA player of the year in the first ever PL season unless I'm mistaken.
Schmeichel would have to be in there too, with Shearer, Keane, Viera, Henry, Bergkamp, Suarez, Beckham and Cantona for me.

Leo ducked out of the way of that cross

We really need to be signing some more players pretty soon

Good effort from Micah

I've only watched the second half
I have to say I'm not very impressed. I'm not sure we've looked better than them. Amavi and Sinclair look quite good. Bacuna has never looked good in midfield. Gil is injured. Gabby has been poor. Gardner was good for five minutes and then I don't think I noticed him
Could really do with Gil and grealish getting fit. But we really need more quality

The players are never asked to go all out in friendlies and asked to do new things they might not be overly familiar with. I watched Man U vs Club America the other night and they looked really poor. I would have thought if it meant anything they'd have won handily.

He is that and it's a great asset to be hard to shove off the ball.
-
I heard Amavi looked impressive, was he?

i only saw the second half, so can't really comment on the starting 11. However, there were some good performances from the kids, especially Calder and Bloodknok. Mason and Donacien also looked good

I heard Amavi looked impressive, was he?
From the little bit I saw of him in the second half, he looked like the best Villa left back for several years.
Not difficult, I know

I was saying vs Braga, but Calder looks a big, strong lad. A couple of challenges in that game where he simply never gave up.

Just seen a picture of him No need to buy someone to replace Benteke. Stick this lad up front . It might be the answer!

Callder is a big bastard isn't he?
How old is he? Does have more growing to do? if so he is potentially Toure proportions!

So what was the score then?

On to the next one. Nice to get a win
Not a good second half performance at all. Hopefully tiredness. Other clubs have had bad results tonight
Need a better option than gabby up front
Westwood in a two? Really not sure about that.
Any news of grealish fitness?

I have it on good authority that Jack will have polished off that huge bottle of Vodka by tomorrow morning and will play against Walsall on Saturday, he may even be sober by the time of the tatters game on Tues.
-
I heard Amavi looked impressive, was he?
He did.
Woodward said "... and we've had some good left backs at Villa Park in recent years" which made me laugh my head clean off my shoulders (am currently headless).
Unless by "recent years" he meant, ooh, the last 40 or 50 years.

Haven't really followed tonight but you're joking me, the kid is cursed here if that's another serious injury, think he needs to move on for his own good.

According to one person on Twitter. I wonder if it's actually Gil. Sure there'll be an update

I watched the game and did see Gardner with an injury whereas Gil did pick one up and had to be taken off

He's due to sober up sometime in September.

Any truth in the rumour that the players shirts will have a £ sign on the back with the amount of the release clause instead of squad numbers this season.

So looking at the OS it appears the following were not involved v Swindon, I wonder how many of them because they're not rated by the manager ?
Guzan

Cole
Grealish
Kozak

AVFC line-up (v @Official_STFC): Steer, Hutton, Richards, Clark, Amavi, Bacuna, Gardner, Westwood, Sinclair, Gil, Agbonlahor. #AVFCLIVE
To be honest, if we were kicking off the season on Saturday, I think there would only be a few changes to that line up. Guzan for Steer, Gueye for Gardner and possibly Sanchez for Westwood and Grealish for Gil. Just goes to show how much work we have to do before it starts.
-
There is something reassuring about listening to Jack. A bit like the chimes of Big Ben during World War II. Who cares that we've sold Delph and Benteke is about to follow any day soon, never mind that that submarines have been spotted in the Gas Street basin. As long as Jack is broadcasting you just know things will turn out OK.

Never heard of Jerrell Sellars before? Assuming he is a youth player. Was he good then?
Yes
I know that it was only against Swindon (and even then, against the people they brought on in the second half) but, for me, he was a lot more impressive than Robinson
-
Oh and Nzog how could I forget him !?
Quite easily, it's easy to forget he actually plays for us when sitting watching a match with him in the team.
-
Robinson hasn't impressed at all so far has he? Suggests he should go on loan again.
Calder looks good though friendlies often misleading
Bacuna can't play midfield for me.

I was thinking similar. Same caveats re the opposition, but I thought he looked very confident. His goal came from a fuck up by Swindon, but he kept his composure well and did what he needed to do.
I also think Callder looked really decent, too. Confident looking lad. Which I guess is something which comes from being larger than most buses.

Guzan is still with the USA, while I think Sanchez is on a break after the Copa America.
Gueye probably needs a little more time to get up to speed having not been training.
As for the others, I wonder if Sherwood just split the squad a little bit to make room for some of the young kids? If they're still not in the team for the Walsall game, I guess that's when questions should be asked.

Villa will include former England international duo Joe Cole and Kieran Richardson, while Charles Nzogbia and Nathan Baker will also be involved in their line-up this evening.
-
Any truth in the rumour that the players shirts will have a £ sign on the back with the amount of the release clause instead of squad numbers this season.
Just leave the same numbers on and put a £ in front or a p on the right
-
Isn't next up tonight at Forest Green?
I think it's an U21 with a few guest appearances.
-
If you're going remember you'll need to take your own meat pies.
-
There's a Villa 'XI' playing at Tamworth on Wednesday 29th, assume it's again U-21s and a couple of the new bomb squad but there you go if you fancy it.
-
We're gonna smash you Tamworth fannies.
-
Tonev scores from an N'Zogbia cross. Not a sentence that I ever expected to type.
-

Was he trying to clear the danger in his own penalty area?
-
Probably put the ball into the net at Villa Park rather than the one where they're playing.
Who are they playing?
-
It's not particularly reassuring when Swindon pass the ball a lot better than you. I really think we looked shit last night
-
Strong team out tonight .....except for Tonev & CNZ of course.
-
Just watched the first half highlights v Swindon. Sinclair and Amavi quite good. Bacuna awful. Didn't think Gil was that great myself despite the plaudits. Westwood quite lightweight too. Gabby movement good finishing bad.
-
I see Sellars scored two again this evening against Forrest Green, one a penalty.
-
Slap a release clause on him, quick...

Where did you watch it? On my PC the latest match is the Braga game (even the link from the news article) and the mobile site says that I'm not registered?
Getting really p!ssed off with it at the moment.
-
On my pc. Just went on the highlights tab.
-
I suppose that I should have gone to the FGR games. It was under 10 miles from my house.
However, my excuse is that the River Severn is in the way. Meaning an hour plus drive or a mile wade through the mud.
Also, I couldn't be arsed

I'm extremely worried about how things are shaping up.

I'm extremely worried about how things are shaping up.
Why?
I mean, we've just won 2 games in a row without some significant players even being there. Granted, pre season. Still better than falling apart at the seams.
-
I'm extremely worried
Maybe just adopt this as your signature?

I'm extremely worried about how things are shaping up.
Why?
Because as things stand we are down, and signing Adebayour isn't going to change that.

Not convinced because we have won 2 games in a row albeit pre season and we don't have a full complement out there, yet. I'm reserving my angst for a month or so.

You keep predicting our demise, one day you might be right. I think that things aren't going to stay as they are right now so I am not worried yet.

Can he adopt Marvin as his username?

And who says that Adebayour is signing?
If you believe very link in the papers, we're signing that many players from Ligue 1 that they'll be able to fill the channel tunnel up again because they'll be no fucker left in France and
Andros Townsend would have pitched up a month ago.
-
Young Sellers is a potent sign for the future, at any rate.
-
I'm extremely worried about how things are shaping up.
For once, I think you are right.
-
I'd agree that if we play the season out with anything like this squad we really are in a lot of trouble. But we presumably won't. So it all depends on making a minimum of three really good signings in the next few weeks
I could well see a pretty ropey start though. We've not given much time for players to integrate. Guzan, Sanchez and grealish haven't played yet and the latter two are presumably almost out of contention now for the start. Gil and Gardner may be injured.
It's not looking very reassuring you'd have to say.
-
watched the highlights of the Forest Green game. The third goal, and second for Sellars is really superb skill. He looks a very decent prospect indeed. And who's the short shorts wearing number 40?
-
Sellars apparently got four goals in 21 games for the under 21s last season
I wouldn't get overly excited just yet

4 in 21 is almost Messi like when compared with the stats of our midfielders .

No worries. It would be useful, in future, if any further issues concerning the AVTV service supplied by Ripple Effect could go on that thread and this one kept for matters on the pitch.

It would be good to see Gil, grealish and gueye today. It would also be good not to be out passed by a lower league team again. I'm not convinced this 4411 we've been playing suits us.
-
First game back today since that game in May. Shame it's a bit wet.
-
Steer
Hutton
Richards
Clark
Amavi
Westwood
Gueye
Bacuna
Sinclair
Robinson
Kozak
-
I would think it is 4 across the Middle, Bacuna and Sinclair wide with Westwood and Gueye central.
-
I guess if you add Guzan Sanchez Gill Grealish Gabby and hopefully Ayew to the above starters it's the basis of a reasonable squad

Why the return of the 19th minute applause in tribute to Mr Shin ?

1-0. Robinson.
-
Gueye certainly gets his foot in.
We're working hard but there's nothing to excite yet.
-
Amavi's looking good. We'll soon put a stop to that.
In all seriousness, I'm hoping the new coaching setup we have will mean no more of the apparent coaching the ability out of the players we've had recently.
-
We're working hard but there's nothing to excite yet.
After a goal?
Your standards are a bit high.

According to the AVFC feed, Gueye sounds like he's not afraid to have a shot.

He isn't. He's done pretty well so far.
Amavi looks really good.

1-1.

Massive deflection.

Sillhill Villa "I'm worried" comment imminent.
-
Haha, half time whistle goes and Hutton turns round for a word with quite possibly the biggest arsehole Villa 'fan' who has spent 45 minutes running up and down the touch line abusing him.
Hope to god that idiot doesn't have kids who play.
The joys of Villa at Bescot....where's Lee Hendrie when you need him.
Gueye looks handy, Robinson lively, nice skill from Kozak for the goal....Richards is gonna be a Mellberg, attack everything :-)
-
Gueye looks good , some nice touches and he gets around the pitch well
Amavi not too bad few sloppy moments but overall not bad.
Rest the 2 CB's not really been tests , Hutton is still useless at crossing.Westy his usual self , Bacuna not too bad but still has poor moments.
Up top Kozak has held the ball up well and nice cross for the goal , Robertson and Sinclair both look busy but some of their finals balls have been poor ,nice control and finish for the goal from Robertson.
Very unlucky with the Walsall goal.
-
I enjoyed that first half....still players missing but good to see people like Callum Robinson getting a game...hope he gets to play most of the game.
Gueye certainly looks lively and can pick a pass.
Forget the equaliser... a fluke they can happen anytime

Has RHM featured in this pre-season ?
-
Some decent performances. Kozak, Amavi, Gueye all impressive.
Slight concern re where our goals are going to come from though.
Assuming Ayew is the Weimann replacement, we absolutely have to replace Benteke too.

You've taken multitasking to another level. Thought you were at the cricket?
-
Gueye replaced by someone called Jordan Lyden. We've got as many Jordans as the Aussies have Mitchells - perhaps King Hussain would be interested in buying us?

I agree totally and you could say we need 2 strikers, I am sure Tim is aware of this and all clubs need quality strikers
-
We've brought on a twelve year old.
-
We've not got our three most creative players out there either .
But 100% agree that we need more quality
Sounds like it should have been two or three up at half time though?

This from Vital Walsall on Twitter: "That was a strong Villa line up and they were gash. They're going to struggle next season."

I like the direction overall. Yes we must find a forward and it might be a combo of Ayew, Kozak and Robinson with an Adebayor on loan. I'd rather off course we made one more significant investment in that area. But when you add in Gil, Grealish to return then we should be able to create chances.
-
I'd be very surprised if any of that front three start against Bournemouth.
-
I'd be very surprised if any of that front three start against Bournemouth.
Sinclair maybe
I do think we're currently facing a pretty ropey start tho.
-
One thing for sure is that Gabby isn't the answer. But as an impact player off the bench to add pace late on he could be an asset.
-
Glad to hear a few are up for it. Class banner from the Villa fans.
Shame I can't find a stream for the game.
What's the banner?
-
As things stand, next season will be a real struggle to stay up next season regardless of the other teams. We have to get some strikers in damn quickly. Kozak is going to take a while to get up to speed after such a long lay off, and we can't rely on Gabby to be consistent. Robinson took his goal well, but he's still learning his trade.
Have to say Gueye and Amavi look really promising and Richards will be a good leader in the back line.
-
Glad to hear a few are up for it. Class banner from the Villa fans.
Shame I can't find a stream for the game.
What's the banner?
Villa fans showing their respect for the three Walsall supporters who died so tragically in Tunisia.
-
Goals. Them be the problem, innit?
-
Just got back from Walsall. We didn't create much, but they created noting at all and their goal was a massive deflection from a free kick after our wall came apart.
We started with a 4-2-3-1 formation and the keepers had very little to do. Hutton was solid enough, Richards (who was captain) looked in a different class to almost everyone else on the pitch, Clark had a shaky first half and Amavi also had a few nervy moments (very quick though).
In the midfield, Westwood was his usual self and Gueye looked promising (very mobile and decent on the ball). Sinclair, Robinson and Bacuna were pretty ineffective (Bacuna in particular had a poor afternoon), and Kozak still looks off the pace.
Any ideas who the 22 and 27 who came on were? Thought the 22 in midfield looked pretty sharp, if quite similar to Westwood.
-
Goals. Them be the problem, innit?
We've sold our goal machine so it isn't going to take a genius is it . Tim / Butch / Paddy over to you (oh and Randy)
-
Still early days, we all know we need a forward, will Judge it when season starts
-
I'm probably warming to the Adebayour idea. We need something for sure , Austin and Adebayour ?
-
Sinclair needs to dramatically improve for me. I have been watching him closely and i've noticed he'll do something really good with the ball, then do something really dumb with it a few touches later, just watch him.
I still firmly believe his Swansea days are long gone, never to return. I hope i'm wrong though!
-
I've literally never seen bacuna play well in midfield. I worry Tim looks at his crossing ability sees him there
We've played 4411 / 4231 every game so far so perhaps that's how we'll set up. I'm not sure Westwood can play that way. Either way we need at least two new players in the forward / wide positions
-

Bacuna looked lost at times today in a more advanced role.
-
Not exactly a confidence inspiring display today other than the fact that the new signings all showed that they are or will be genuine quality players for us (Richards, Gueye and Amavi).
Hutton and Bacuna down the right look clueless, and can't cross a ball between them.
Sinclair and Kuzak look way off the pace.
Really need an injection of genuine quality up front otherwise we are going to struggle...there aren't any goals in this team at the moment.
-
Bacuna can cross a ball. But much better coming into it from full back
Agree we're weak down that side.

And thanks TSOV.

Probably Cannock Villains, they're normally good for a banner and fair play with it.
-
I've heard both that Richards was the best player on the pitch and that he was repeatedly out of position. I am worried about his positional play - never been a strong point.
The season starts two weeks today and if we put anything like today's team out I can't see anything but a good shoeing.
Minimum of two genuine quality players in the next week. Ideally four more in the next few weeks.
It might be consistent disappointment but at the moment I've really got a feeling that the start of the season is going to be horrendous.
-
Richards played alright I thought, won plenty in the air (as did Clark). Worry I have is he won pretty much all his one v ones against Bradshaw by just being physically stronger, that won't always work in the prem.
Idrissa Gueye looks excellent, great energy, can get forward and good taclking. He dosen't lack confidence on the ball either.
Amavi struggled to get into the game, didn't get forward a lot.
Kozak tried hard but not a starter at this moment in time, better as impact sub imo.
-
We really need to buy a striker.

Agree with all of that tom.
Thought young Sellars looked very enterprising in the 15 minutes he had...a bit cocky (in a good way) and shaped a decent shot for himself (well over the bar, but at least he had a go).
Thought Sinclair was in a couple of really promising positions second half but then bungled or fumbled it.
-
I don't think Westwood is PL quality.

Who played in the middle of the three in that 4231? I'd assumed 433 w Robinson and Sinclair either side of kozak
-
Looked to me like it was...
Kozak
Sinclair Robinson Bacuna
Gueye Westwood
...but Sinclair and Robinson pushed up more and were narrower in the second half so may have switched to 433.
-
Just wondering was Wilkins quite vocal on the side ? Was Tony Parks there today ?

There are a few square pegs in round holes there. Ideally the central guy needs to be able to drop back and complement the midfield, whereas Robinson seems more of a pacy, off the shoulder player. I think Grealish would be more suited to this role.
Bacuna doesn't seem to suit the more advanced positions, I think he is better when he can see the play ahead of him and joins the attacks from a deeper position.
-
Interesting to hear about the formation as there is talk that we're trying to get Cambiasso. Given that we already have Westwood and Sanchez, a third optional sitter in front of the defence is more useful if we plan to use something like 4-2-3-1 on a regular basis.
-

Yes yes yes yes
Grealish, Gil or nzogbia are the only players who can play no 10

Yes I agree. But if we want to play 433 then we need two new central midfielders who can play the energetic box to box roles. Gueye seemed to think that's what we'd be playing.
-
Has Delph's U-turn changed our thinking since then though?

Robinson did. To be fair, he really didn't seem suited to it, but then we do have Grealish, Gil and Cole who all play there.

Just wondering was Wilkins quite vocal on the side ? Was Tony Parks there today ?
Wasn't watching the bench closely, but I didn't see Wilkins on the sideline. I saw Parks shouting instructions a few times. Also seems we have a new guy taking the warm up and the Alan Wright lookalike is now on the fringes.
-

We need somebody working on the fringes, and also the quiffs. Don't even mention the beards.

I too had serious doubts about Richards playing at CB, but seeing him today (albeit against lower level opposition) has eased them a bit. His leap when he gets up for headers is impressive and I thought his positioning was sound. It's clear he's not the greatest distributor, but he kept it simple most of the time. I really thought he looked a class act today and rarely had to get out of 2nd / 3rd gear.

Cambiasso would be a good foil for Gueye on today's showing and it would also allow Sanchez to come on gradually. I like Ashley Westwood, but am beginning to think he's not the answer.

Bloody 'ell tom!
Agree again mate!
Richards was the best player on the pitch by miles.
Even when in a difficult situation, he dealt with it, with ease, using brute strength, skill, whatever was needed.
He made two passes that were easily intercepted when he was quite far forward, but other than that he was pretty much faultless.

And what did they use,a JCB?

Where are Okore, Sanchez and Grealish?
Okore will not be fit till September after his op Sanchez is on his hols after the Copa, I dont think Grealish has featured in any pre season matches so far?
-
Why did they move him?
He was getting mobbed and asked for photo's, so a steward came over and took him to the side stand, where he got mobbed and asked for photo's.

As for the game itself, it was a typical friendly really. Sinclair looked to impress again. The new boy Marvin was pretty good. You could tell Kozak has been out for a long time and it'll take him a while to get back to full fitness and the the young lad Sellars looked very sharp and confident when he came on. I think we might have a player on our hands there.
-
Grealish expected to start doing ball work this week
Can't see him starting v Bournemouth. Hoping Gil will be fit soon

We do seem cursed, injury wise don't we?
If we can get the midfield right, to allow the likes of Grealish and Gil some freedom, we could be a surprise package.

There wasnt a great deal to get excited about or to slay fears that its going to be another season of struggle. Simply not enough quality anywhere and yet again, we constantly allowed Walsall to get men back behind the ball before we comitted players in support, then struggled to offer anything incisive.
The new lad Gueye looked the pick of the bunch and the left back finished the game a lot more strongly and confidently than he started it.
-
Highlights now available on AVTV. Thoughts from first half (can't be bothered w second):
Overall I thought we were better than comments made me expect though it was obviously only Walsall! We passed the ball quite well whereas we didn't in the last game. We did lack creativity in the final third though. Weak spots were definitely bacuna and Sinclair who were awful. I mean dog shit bad. Formation shifted between 433 and 442.
Richards was v dominant. Really liked Amavi tho he made a couple of silly errors. Extremely two footed. Hutton bad on the ball.
Westwood did his normal stuff. Gueye had bags of energy and loved a tackle. Impressed. Bacuna flitted between right mid in a four and part of a three. Gave the ball away a lot.
Sinclair flitted between front three and and left mid. Didn't affect the game much at all. Poor. Kozak did well I thought definitely a good target. Lacks pace though. Robinson did well, much better than previous games.
-
A definite upgrade on Jack Woodward. Is that Wolfie at 2:18?
-
That's definitely Wolfie. Good spot. The bloke that looks like Dumbledore has been sat a few seats away from me for about five years and that's the first time I've ever heard him speak!
-
Wolfie was outside after the game.
-
Wolfie was on our train on the way there.

Wolfie was on our train on the way there.
And ours on the way back.
-
What she lacks in variety of questioning she makes up for in looks, although I found her a bit too happy, like a modern day Bonnie Langford.
Hasn't David Crosby lost some weight?

Wolfie's bound to make an appearance at this one

and so will I. However my Wolves supporting mate from the house opposite has got us two tickets with the opposition. I shall be diplomatic with my comments. Very diplomatic indeed!

Ha ha, great spot there! Definitely, brilliant, like, definitely, brilliant...
-
A definite upgrade on Jack Woodward. Is that Wolfie at 2:18?
Let's be honest, Alan Partridge is an upgrade on Woodward.
-
Wolfie was being Wolfie by hanging around the team bus long after the players had departed inside the stadium.
Personally, I was very impressed with Guerye..plenty of ability with the ball, always on the move whether it's cutting out space or looking toreceive.Suspect we have a player here on ffirst view.Amavi started a little heisitantly, but certainly improved during the second.Richards was similary impressive, but did seem to rely on his physical attributes rather than reading the threat.
As for the rest, only Clark and Westwood looked up to pace, which isn't a concern as there's still a quarter of pre season to play out...Bacuna was particularly awful.
Maybe I'm well down the ageing process, but I've never seen anyone look as young and skin as the lad whom appeared for the final 2, whom I now know as harry mckirdy..

Aaaggghhh! She says 'haitch' instead of 'aitch'.
Feel like calling Nicola Keye.

I read that the lad had raised the money to buy that banner. I don't know if he wasn't allowed to walk round the pitch with it, but they held it up in the corner where a lot of people couldn't see it.
Great gesture though.

A definite upgrade on Jack Woodward. Is that Wolfie at 2:18?
Have a feeling the first bloke on there is called Alan and he had(or has) the biggest drum kit collection in Britain. Sure Amfy knows him.
-
From PRAVDA
Tickets for Tuesday's friendly with Wolves are no longer available from Villa Park.
Villa fans will be able to purchase tickets from Molineux tomorrow evening from the away ticket office.
This is situated in the Stan Cullis Quadrant.
Prices are £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and £5 for U12s.
The family ticket offer will not be available.
-
My Saddlers mate was impressed with the new three boys but thought Kozak was slow
Amavi looks like he may a decent cross in him? Was it at Swindon he raced through and put one across the 6-yard box that 3 Villa players missed?
-
Any safe/secure parking options for tonights game at the dogheads?

I have it from a reliable source that the gent that appears at 1m30s and again 2m30s is our very own Nick aka Woofles the Wonder Dog.
-
Due to unforeseen circumstances there is no pub tonight for away fans, the ground will be open from 18.30 and will be serving alcohol.
From WM police.

Has anyone received their tickets in the post, for the Forest game on Saturday?
-
Villa: Bunn, Hutton, Clark, Richards, Amavi, Bacuna, Westwood, Gueye, Sinclair, Agbonlahor, Kozak.
Subs: Steer, Lyden, Robinson, Donacien, Baker, Ayew.

Never seen him before in my life!
.......and she's not a bit annoying is she?
-
Pete Colley just read out the teams...he must have got three names wrong at least.
We have Keiron Westwood in midfield for one....
-
No joe cole Richardson nzog gardner presume they will play tomo but it does suggest they could be for the chop! Also what's happened to Bennett?
Assume okore grealish are injured and Sanchez and guzan are still away
The squad needs some leaders
-
Where exactly is Grealish? Does he have a confirmed injury? if so I've missed it and if so it'll assuage the conspiracy theories regarding his unexplained absence.

he does have a confirmed injury, and not as some have suggested tire tracks over his upper body

-
On the bench Lydon makes it ahead of Calder ...
Would hope that we see something of Donacien at RB.
-
Bit concerned about our repeated use of 442 variants. Both generally and because it means bacuna and Sinclair have to play in midfield

Would hope that we see something of Donacien at RB.
Always been extremely impressed with him but at centre half. I really hope we keep hold of him, ideally sending him out on loan for the season.
-
Anyone got code watch it on avtv , says season ticket holders get free pass.. I ain't
-
Just logged in but you have to pay £6 for the Wolves match...
-
Apparently season ticket holders get a code
-
Kick off delayed 10 mins approx due to crowd still arriving
-
Amavi looks like he is absolutely loving it at the Villa.
-
Not appearing on my AVTV - what's the crack?
-
Fuck me, that's a good goal.
-
Superb goal from kozak
-
Bloody hell Libor, great goal
-
What a great turn out by Villa fans
-
Kozak - "it's like a new signing"
-
Apparently season ticket holders get a code
hey up pav , buy one you tight git !
-
he's a very good player. I never understood why some never rated him as for the short time he was in the line up he looked intelligent and generally effective, with a decent goal record. That was a lovely goal not something you might expect from a big lad.
-
Off the bar by Libor. We are playing some lovely stuff.
Amavi is taking the piss as well. He looks superb
-
Apparently season ticket holders get a code
hey up pav , buy one you tight git !
aye pal, I've bought one last satdee.
-
We look like Real Madrid. Fantastic football so far. Amavi bossing it.
-
Kozak is a very clever player - disarmingly mobile, and reads it so well
-
Is anyone watching on anything other than AVTV?
-
And, I'd say, Westwood is stepping up a little.
-

Got it on now 8)

Amavi is taking the piss as well. He looks superb
Agree on both, Amavi has been excellent
-
Bacuna still crossing to Benteke....twice now.
-
Amavi is going to be a real cult hero if he keeps this up.
-
Amavi is going to be a real cult hero if he keeps this up.
Yep

Sounds like amavi is right in the thick of it?
-
Woodwank has gone all 'Swiss Tony'
-
Tell you what Bunn has looked pretty solid
-
Woodwank has gone all 'Swiss Tony'
That was pure Partridge from Woodwood.
-
Woodwank has gone all 'Swiss Tony'
His confidence as a comentator seems to be growing, unfortunately... Or he's just got a Sid Waddell box-set.
-
Wolves getting much more into this now.
-
Is anyone watching on anything other than AVTV?
Yes :) Same way as last season.
-
AVTV working well now I've got back. Was it a good goal?
-

Portillo in a bright jacket holding his Bradshaw.
-
Can't believe that Bacuna will make the starting XI
-
I really do like the positions on the pitch that Kozak takes up and how well uses his body to move and draw fouls. Very intelligent
-
Woodward just said similar about Kozak, but he's right, he's an intelligent footballer.
-
Is anyone watching on anything other than AVTV?

I've got Drew Pritchard buying other peoples rubbish and selling it for ridiculous prices.

Just a little reminder... (http://www.heroesandvillains.info/forumv3/index.php?topic=47622.0)

Looking forward to seeing Ayew in the second half

Kozak: https://vine.co/v/eXKVan5ZWQ9

Woodwank now comparing Sinclair with Giggs ... I wish.
-
Woodwank now comparing Sinclair with Giggs ... I wish.
He really is completely bonkers
-
Micah Richards has been everywhere tonight
-
Libor looking sharp with that well taken goal.
-
Not convincd by Sinclair
-
Kozak: https://vine.co/v/eXKVan5ZWQ9
Lovely goal.
-
Gueye certainly likes to shoot. He's in danger though of entering Tonev territory with some of his early accuracy
-
Bunn looks a good keeper
-
Woodwank now comparing Sinclair with Giggs ... I wish.
He really is completely bonkers
He also thinks Gabby will have a great season.
-
Anyone spotted Adenayor there yet?
-
Decent first half with some good positives.
Amavi looks good going forward.
Gueye looks decent.
Kozak is much better than I expected.
This biggest disappointment, but least surprising is Gabby.
Gabby is just Gabby and being just Gabby is nowhere near good enough.
-
Not convincd by Sinclair
Me neither. I doubt we'll see much of him after September.
-
We are looking pretty good.
If I had to pick out those who are not particularly impressing, I'd opt for Gabby and Bacuna.
-
We look comfortable. Gabby is what he is and if things work out we'll see less and less of him as the season goes on. Bacuna is a strange one as he's not great at anything. Ideally I'd love for us to have signed an Amavi level RB. Early doors and all that but Amavi looks fucking ace
-
Not convincd by Sinclair
Me neither. I doubt we'll see much of him after September.
I disagree. He has a willingness to beat a man and always looks like he has a goal in him. I think he will get a decent chance and if he does he will kick on. He has the perfect attributes for an outside forward
-
Micah Richards has been everywhere tonight
That's generally not a good thing for a centre back.
-

Maybe; we'll see. I hope you're right because he certainly shows willing.
-
Micah Richards has been everywhere tonight

I meant it in a Martin Laursen kind of way.
-
AVTV's gone all wobbly on me.
-
It's gone all white for me!
-
Well done, Clark.
-
"Hello, lovely!" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_0UdLyAlzU)
-
really good defending from Clark there, that's why he's better than Baker, he reads the game really well.
-
Bunn really has been quite impressive.
-
What's the score guys just joining you from sunny Burnham
-
Need to get new Jordan on.
-
Lovely through ball from Gueye there.
I've been massively impressed by him and Amavi from what I've seen so far.
-
What's the score guys just joining you from sunny Burnham
1-0 to us.
-
Gabby injured.
-
Lovely through ball from Gueye there.
I've been massively impressed by him and Amavi from what I've seen so far.
yeah both have played really well, as have Kozak and Westwood.
-
Thank you sounds like we are playing ok
-
Wreckless challenge from Stearman takes gabby out
-
Kozak has one of the better football brains in our side.
-
I hope Ayew gets on for Gabby soon, would be good to see a bit of him.
-
Kozak has one of the better football brains in our side.
Agreed. Unlike Gabby - he really is not very good.
-
"Hello, lovely!" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_0UdLyAlzU)
That makes a change at away games. Before, you just used to get hassled by middle aged blokes trying to flog you a fanzine.
-
Kozak has one of the better football brains in our side.
And Christ, how we need one.
-
Gabby coming off for Callum Robinson.
-
Dropping like flies here.
-
Gabby coming off for Callum Robinson.
That's an improvement.
-
FFs now richards injured
-
Oh, he's OK
-
My screen is green now.....wtf is going on ? and it keeps cutting out too.....help me Obi Wan....your my only hope...

Mugged there.

yep I know Legion....just effing frustrating :(
I agree and the club are monitoring that specific thread in order to address any issues.
-
Wolves are being a bit over-physical for a preseason friendly.
-
For me we still look lightweight in the centre of the park
Oh hello 2-1 get in libor
-
Well done again, Kozak.
-
Kozak again.
-
Brilliant from Robinson for the 2nd, I really do think he's got the potential to be fantastic in that inside-forward position that's so popular now.
-
Wolves are being a bit over-physical for a preseason friendly.
Hardly surprising, considering it's a ding-dong Greater Birmingham Derby.
-
Kozak :) 8)
-
Wolves are being a bit over-physical for a preseason friendly.
A certain former club employee once said to me "We won't play friendlies at Blues or Albion any more. They just want to kick our players and attack our supporters."
-
Sounds like Kozak is getting sharper than what he had been showing in previous games.
-
Woodwank has just asked what we've learned from this game.
- Clark and Richards look good together.
- Hutton can't cross.
- Kozak is actually a very good player.
- Bacuna is not quite good enough.
- Agbonlahor is spent.
- Amavi looks excellent.
- Gueye is promising.
- Don't write Westwood off quite yet.
-
Who needs Adebayor when we've got Kozak?
-
Who's gone off injured tonight then?
-
Micah Richards is a big lad isn't he?
I swear I've lived in houses smaller than him.
-
Gabby.
-
Always thought that about Richards although height wise he's a mere 5 11
-
Westwood has been very good tonight
-
Westwood has been very good tonight
I think he a very important link man.
-
I'd like Wolves to get promoted.
They're a proper football club.
-
22 thousand there. "You only came to see villa"
-
We'd better sell Baker then
-
Baker at fault there
-
2-2. Lazy and careless at the back.
-
Baker in "Can't pass" shock.
Fuckin stupid defensive pass - piss-poor
-
Awful by baker
-
2-2 only flatters Wolves slightly. The goal was far too easy, though.
-
Haha, Baker has never and will never be a Premier League defender if he still can't pass a ball at this stage of his career.
-
That's the problem with Baker, too many silly mistakes like that
-
2-2 only flatters Wolves slightly.
On the basis of the second half, but not the first.
I think Baker has a facial expression right now that suggests he's as good as booked himself a train ticket to Burnley in the morning.
-
Fucking terrible there by baker
-
Have to say, I'm looking forward to the season but we should have mullered Wolves tonight.
-
Should have won
-
Both goals we conceded were terrible
-
Woodwank has just asked what we've learned from this game.
- Clark and Richards look good together.
- Hutton can't cross. That we already knew
- Kozak is actually a very good player. That we already suspected
- Bacuna is not quite good enough. That we already suspected
- Agbonlahor is spent. That we already knew
- Amavi looks excellent.
- Gueye is promising.
- Don't write Westwood off quite yet. That we already suspected
-
Only a friendly but Nathan Baker proving once again he will never be a Premier League player as long as he has a hole in his arse...
That apart a decent run out for the team and our unbeaten run continues!
-
Tim sees what we see. He knows who he can and cannot rely on. Baker ain't one of them. Two points dropped if this was a league game! Please get in a proper centre back.
-
saw the last 25 mins. Gueye looked good, Robinson is taking over Gabby, Amavi (or someone else) looked good going forward but got absolutely skinned for their first, Libor looks like he could still turn out decent, Baker is a numbskull.
-
Two really shit goals to concede.
Firstly, Sinclair defending in the left back position.
Amavi should have told him to get the fuck out of there.
Secondly, a nail in the coffin of the future of Baker at the club, I suspect.
-
The only thing to add is that Steerman could've been sent off twice if that was a proper game, proper clugger.
-
Let's hope the link to Burnley for Baker is real, he's never a Premier centre half.
-
I think we have the defensive unit. but baker will be sold. I'm glad
-
Westwood has been very good tonight
I'm not a massive fan of him, but he kept the midfield ticking over nicely at times.
Gueye looks like he might be a really good buy once he properly settles in. Kozak was great and Richards I thought was great at the back.
Overall, really promising. We definatley won't struggle again anyway.
-
Westwood looks like he has stepped up a level.
He seems to be thinking and playing the ball the ball a lot quicker.
-
Westwood looks like he has stepped up a level.
He seems to be thinking and playing the ball the ball a lot quicker.
Could it be that there's more movement around him which in turn allows him to dispatch the ball more quickly and into more threatening areas. Under previous regimes it's gone backwards because it was the only option bar a punt into space.
-
Bunn 7 - Did pretty well. Good saves from Dicko. Came out to claim the ball plenty of times. As good as Given at a 1/4 the price.
Amavi 7 - Looks pretty great going forward. Tidy on the ball.
Clark 7 - Solid enough as always.
Richards 8 - Really dominated aerially and put a good shift in.
Hutton 4 - He's a bang average full back, made some mistakes and is typically crap going forward.
Westwood 8 - Really excellent from him. Never misplaced a pass and got us going forward.
Gueye 7 - Nothing extraordinary from him today. Just a really solid performance, intercepting plenty of passes and getting stuck in,
Bacuna 6 - Flashes of brilliance but pretty average otherwise. Not very good on set pieces.
Sinclair 5 - Not a great game.
Gabby 5 - Typical Gabby.
Kozak 9 - Really impressive stuff. Great goals, bullied the defenders and held the ball up brilliantly.
Robinson 8 - He's definitely got something about him. Tricky and nippy.
Ayew 7 - Didn't see much of him but he definitely looks better than Gabby.
Baker 1 - As much as I like him, he is pretty naff isn't he.
-
Still look too vulnerable at the back for me. Always looks like there's a mistake in our back line waiting to happen.
-
Westwood looks like he has stepped up a level.
He seems to be thinking and playing the ball the ball a lot quicker.
I wonder if Wilkins is starting to have an influence. Westwood's body shape as he received the ball suddenly seems to allow him time to make a decision and play it on. His overall technique looks a lot better.
Gueye looks like he could be a really good player, Amavi looked good too,as did Richards. Bunn played out of his skin and could be bagging the no.1 spot if that is his usual standard. Nice cameo from Ayew.
We should have won easily but didn't, but there's still plenty to be optimistic about.
-
I have never ever rated Baker. Sell him to a northerly Championship club hoping for a play off place. Has been option A since MON blooded him and he got sent off.
-
Baker was pretty good at times last season. Bit harsh to dismiss him completely on the basis of a pre-season friendly.
-
Westwood looks like he has stepped up a level.
He seems to be thinking and playing the ball the ball a lot quicker.
I wonder if Wilkins is starting to have an influence. Westwood's body shape as he received the ball suddenly seems to allow him time to make a decision and play it on. His overall technique looks a lot better.

I think a few of Lambert's signings would benefit from not having Lambert managing them. Anywya, tonight was better than Walsall, a similar improvement on Saturday and we might start looking something like.
-
I always thought Baker would end up at like a Milwall or something. Big, big heart, throws himself about, blocks shots with his face. The fans would take to him, but overall he's pretty shite and a clanger waiting to happen, which will soon be forgotten about at 1st Division level when he blocks the next shot with his nackers.
-
Great to hear about Kozak, I have great hopes for him.
-
Kozak would be a BIG surprise to me. Didn't rate what I saw of him originally. The finish tonight and his general play was very encouraging. He could be the surprise of the pack.
-
Feel a bit sorry for Baker, think his confidence has been knocked . I wouldn't write him off yet,
Thought Kozak was very good as was Bunn.
Midfield still looks very small and lightweight to me.
-
I was in with the Wolves crowd and you may be interested in their views of our lot. The people behind us spent the first half either slagging off Sako, not very popular it would seem, or criticising Afobe for not working hard enough. This huge bloke said "that big bugger they have (Kozak)
he's what we want ay he, works his bollocks off". He was right Kozak was very good. Did you lot watching it on AVTV notice it was Kozak who slid the ball through when Gabby was brought down. They also rated Amavi. After the first 15mins when Kozak could have had a hat trick I thought we should win this at a counter. But both of their goals were Villa mistakes. The first one Sinclair and the second obviously Baker.
I was impressed with Robinson when he came on and Westwood was steady in midfield. Ayew showed briefly that he has some skill but no doubt about it for his all round game Kozak was our man of the match.
-
Westwood looks like he has stepped up a level.

Might that be Jordan Anywya?
-
Clark getting quite a bit of stick I hear. Bit suprised as I thought he did well and was immense last season. Likes a tackle as well.
-
I haven't given up on Libor. I'm hoping this will be his season. God knows he deserves some good fortune.
-
Kozak man of the match for his goals mainly, but his overall game was good. Gueye and Richards not far behind, Gueye very tidy indeed. Richards looks like he'll be our best centre back since Laursen. Amavi very promising, Clark has improved but still gets turned at times quite easily. Baker is still a walking calamity, although to be fair he only had 10 mins at the end. Bunn looked like steady hands. Westwood played quite well, Hutton and Sinclair werent bad, Bacuna was a handfull for them and Gabby started ok but fizzled out. Robinson and Ayew had a few nice touches.
Cant beleive we didnt win, we were the better side overall.
-
What I liked about Gueye was that when he received the ball he was facing forwards in an instant looking to start something. Only when there was nothing on did he shuffle the ball sideways or back.
-
Just back, a few observations..
* We still cant defend.
* Kozaks was brilliant, apart from his goals, the hold up play was bang on from him.
* Robinson did well for Kozaks second.
* Gueye seems too have the ability too make it look like he always has time on the ball.
* I love Amavi's rapid bursts, he tended too pass the ball, get it back and then look as if he was going too pass it again before skinning the full back.
* Sinclair, brilliant at running with the ball and cutting inside, awful at everything else.
* Wolves fans celebrations in the South Bank..... Somebody tell them its a friendly.
-
What I liked about Gueye was that when he received the ball he was facing forwards in an instant looking to start something. Only when there was nothing on did he shuffle the ball sideways or back.
Yes, he used the ball very well. He looks to have a good football brain. I did think Westwood had a good game tonight and is definately worth his place in the squad but if we had soneone with a bit of thrust alongside Gueye (hopefully like the latest Jordan) we could be improved dramatically in that area.
-
* Wolves fans celebrations in the South Bank..... Somebody tell them its a friendly.
Seeing things like that make you realsie how much bigger we are than everyone around us.
-
Exactly. We should see it as a compliment, along with the size of the turnout from them.
-
Just back in, a better performance than Saturday but the same lack of creativity in the final third, we desperately need Gil back if only to see if he is the player we are missing.
Gueye was excellent again, Westwood too. Great goal fro m Kozac but he desperately need to get stronger, you cant teach pace but he could afford to put a stone on and be more of a handful. Less said about Baker the better, Id give him a Championship loan for the season.
-
Westwood looks like he has stepped up a level.
He seems to be thinking and playing the ball the ball a lot quicker.
Amazing what good coaching will do. With coaches like Wilkins, Sherwood, Cowans and Petrov at the club I'll be expecting a damn sight better from our midfield this year.
-
How come no Gill? I saw him and Kozak in Portugal and they were outstanding for movement and drive, as well as hold up play respectively.
-
injured
-
As a Brummie living in Wolverhampton I went to the game with a Dingle-supporting mate. We were sat in the upper Stan Cullis, right by the Villa fans. Some of their fans need to remember that it was a friendly; every club has its share of dickheads but to see grown men with their wives and kids goading the Villa fans with choice language was startling. Christ knows what they're like when the game actually means something. It was a friendly!
A few other observations:
After 30 minutes there were still Villa fans coming into the ground which is amazing for a friendly
Kozak worked very hard and deserved his goals. He really put a shift in
The defence that started the game looked solid and Richards will marshall them well through the season. He has the potential to be our best centre half since Laursen
The midfield looks an improvement on last year but is still lacking something.
Gabby looks finished and he'd do well for a side like Wolves.
Robinson looks a real prospect and his work before our second was excellent.
Their second was awful and piss poor by Baker. Time to ship him out.
-

That would be a great midfield at their peak
-
Any highlights yet?
-
Kozak would be a BIG surprise to me. Didn't rate what I saw of him originally. The finish tonight and his general play was very encouraging. He could be the surprise of the pack.
In the few appearances I saw of him, I rated his finishing. People forget it was four goals in 14 so just shy of 1 in 4, nut how many starts did he have. I always thought he was a big miss just after CB picked up his injury.
-
Wolves supporters seem to agree that we'd have won if we'd have been all that bothered and the early Mail headline referred to us dropping two points but that's been changed now.
-
Tamworth have confirmed on Twitter that Grealish is down to play 45 minutes in the friendly tomorrow, so that's a bit of good news about his injury.
-
Hope he doesn't throw a Hendrie when the Tamworth lot give him some.
-
Any highlights yet?
They just put some up on AVTV. Not sure if its just the good bits they picked but my goodness this Amavi bloke looks really good. Not just his skill & vision but at one point a wolves defender did a full on scissor tackle on him and... bounced off... Amavi just ignored him and picked out a cross into the box.
-
There's clearly some selection bias in those highlights. They don't show baker's mistake and bacuna looks great
Is gabby now a doubt for next week?
Looking at the team I'm reminded that despite a transfer window the likes of which I've never seen at villa, there are still lots of Qs and weaknesses about who will line up against Bournemouth
You'd have thought we're edging close to the team that will play.
I guess the back 6 are settled.

I think Kozak can do really well for us. Liked the look of him the first time I saw him, when he got the winner against Norwich. Showed a great bit of smart movement.
I think because he's so lanky, people assume he's going to be a physical player, but to me he looks more Lineker-esque. He'll score a few, if we put the ball in the right place.
-

You mean the offical Villa channel are showing Villa players in a good light? There's a surprise.
-
not a bad night out, a fairly decent game but not many signs of improvement to me
on the plus side, i thought Amavi (first half especially) looked decent as did Gueye and Richards (at times) and Kozak took his goals well. Thought Westwood had a decent game too
on the negative side, i thought Hutton, Sinclair and Gabby were absolutely terrible. not sure any of those 3 should be anywhere near our starting 11 next weekend
-
Had similar thoughts. Though Westwood was very good I thought. Fwd quick passes a lot of the time
I'm not sure what the alternatives to Hutton and Sinclair really are at this stage
Gabby wasn't great but he is an out ball. Perhaps ayew can be a better alternative though I'm anticipating he may be the least successful of our four Frenchmen based on reports

Four Frenchmen? Six, Ginola, Amavi, Veretout?...(Ayew is from Ghana).

Pires?

Berson

Don't forget Didier Agathe.

Saturday night...

Tamworth for the latest pre-season fixture.
KO at 7.30pm.
Villa: Watkins, Donacien, Mason, Toner, Kinsella, Calder, Lyden, Abdo, Sellars, Grealish, Robinson. Subs: Bannister, McKirdy, Lyons-Foster, Swift, Hale, Cowans, Capuno, Leggett.
Tamworth: Belshaw, Burns, Strong, Tommassen, Preston, Smith, Durrell, Clarke, Dyer, Newton, Green. Subs: Wilkins, Gill, Davies, Morrell, Ezewele, Paratore.
-
Losing two-nil. Blood glory-hunter Cooper will be unbearable.
-
Just watched first half of wolves game on way home
Quite pleased. Comfortably the better side. Kozak limited but clever and looks on form. Westwood best player on pitch by absolutely miles. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but I really like him
Dare I say it bacuna was pretty good.
Amavi looks a risk at left back. Doesn't track his man very well at all. And with Sinclair that's a weak link, especially if we don't have three central midfielders to help cover the full backs. I wonder about him in midfield to begin with
Definitely could have done with the touch of quality that Gil or grealish bring
-
Didier Six?
-
Losing two-nil. Blood glory-hunter Cooper will be unbearable.
It was 3-0 and that seems to have been the final score.
-
Seventy-three year-old Tamworth player-manager Andy Morrell got two.
Grealish played just over an hour.

Never mind that, how low have we sunk?
-
Anyone know if we can pay at the gate at Forest on Saturday? I was going to be at Edgbaston, but have been forced into a change of plans by shit Australian batting.
-
Wonder how many of the new boys will be on show?
-
Hopefully we'll see a few; and, Sanchez as well.

Looks like all the new lads will see some action today and Sanchez is with the squad.

Nice one, thanks.
-
Seems that Bacuna is now considered an option in midfield with Crespo and Hutton as the 2 senior options at right back.
-
I like Bacuna at right-back. Fuck defending.
-
We've actually got a squad and competition for places these days including options in midfield. Gil. Grealish and Gardner to come in, unless Sherwood has a problem with surnames starting with G as Guzan isn't included either. Gueye had best watch his step.
-
I like Bacuna at right-back. Fuck defending.
Defending, shmefending more like.
-
Blimey, the crowd looks a bit sparse
-
I like Bacuna at right-back. Fuck defending.
Is that you, Timothy?
-
Blimey, the crowd looks a bit sparse
Because they are all here in Devon, bloomin bedlam.
Also every other person is wearing a Villa shirt or if not a Wolves one.
-
I like Bacuna at right-back. Fuck defending.
Is that you, Timothy?
I think he blacked out for a second and woke up as Kevin Keegan.
-
I just saw the the banner
-
Any links to this or AVTV only?
-
I just saw the the banner
Fuck the Fuckers?
-
The time I went to a pre-season game @ Forest, I recorded this free kick from the Scottish Messi

No where near HD again for me on PravdaTV

Good start.

A clean sheet and lots of goals would be ideal today. The defence looks close on being our first choice minus Brad, so hopefully they can get some practice in today.
Can't believe nobody hasn't mentioned N'Zogbia isn't in the squad.
-
Fuck me. Glad this is preseason. Sort this out now Villa before it starts for real.
-
I just saw the the banner
Fuck the Fuckers?
no the the one, just a small section of it though

One nil down inside 30 seconds
How did we manage that?!

They managed to put the ball in our net
-
is it worth paying for a day pass on avtv, IS it working?
-
This squad needs overhauling
-
Not watching but seriously wtf ! Sort this out villa
-
is it worth paying for a day pass on avtv, IS it working?
not bad actually, stopped a couple of times but seems fine at the moment
-
It isn't stuttering or anything but if that's HD quality, then i must have cataracts or something, because to me it looks like overly compressed, poor quality guff.

Just the "Aston Villa" bit on display
-
"Crystal clear HD quality" my arris.
-
We look like we've never played together - oh, we haven't.
The lengthy interview with Timothy on AVTV is very encouraging - lots of 11v11 afternoon sessions, he said.
I think he's especially happy to have Gestede.
-
J-Dub gave a shout out to someone in Toronto. Was that you TV ?
-
Should have been 2-0
-
Henri Lansbury is a player I've always rated

ta done it
-
Jack must have been up all night working on that Usain Bolt quip
-
Yay. Scott Sinclair
-
That was such a good cross from Amavi, I reckon even I would have put it away.
-
great ball
-
Amavi looks like he'll be dangerous going forward.
1-1 Sinclair
-
Yesssss. More of that please Sinclair.
-
Can't find any stream to watch the game on today.
Bloody frustrating.
-
Great cross by Jordan the First and a good header from SirClive
-
Playing some nice stuff now we've settled.
-
What a delivery
-
Can't find any stream to watch the game on today.

Only costs a fiver or so for a day pass on the OS, you tight git.
;-)
-
Get in
-
Bacuna isn't quite there today.
-
That was such a good cross from Amavi, I reckon even I would have put it away.
That explains it. I think Sherwood will stick with Sinclair until the end of September and then he'll be benched for the rest of the season. His decision making and final touch generally leave a lot to be desired.
-

Have you seen the exchange rate at the moment. I could buy a small villa here for just over a fiver.
-
Bacuna isn't quite there today.
Inconsistency is his big problem
-
Gueye is so tidy in possession.
-
Ayew looks a bit rapid
-
Bacuna still isn't quite there.
-
Ayew looks a bit rapid
plenty of enthusiasm to get the ball back too

Do I get an assist for your new name? ;o)
-
Crespo's groin looks a problem and he's going off it seems.
-
Very impressed with Gueye, Amavi and Ayew so far.
-
McCafu is on
-
Very impressed with Gueye, Amavi and Ayew so far.
Moi, aussi.
We need the creativity of Jack and the supposedly clever Veretout.
-
Amavi is good isn't he?
-
Amavi is good isn't he?
He's looking the best so far.
These Frenchies are very good on the ball with much better control and passing than Sinclair or Bacuna, for example.
-
Amavi is good isn't he?
Agree - he looks the real deal. Hopefully the perennial LB problem has finally been sorted
-
Very impressed with Gueye, Amavi and Ayew so far.
I'd agree with that, all three looked good so far.
Has Gueye given the ball away at any point yet? Looks so comfortable with it.
-
How are we faring over all? Watched the last ten.
We do look easy to attack against, letting plenty of crosses in. And I really don't like that four man midfield. When Tim arrived he tried that for a bit before dropping it. Much better to have a three in there for me.
Amavi looks the pick. Kozak looks quite slow and cumbersome today.
We are missing grealish, Gil, veretout and (perhaps) adebayor - that would clearly add more creativity and quality.
-
Amavi is good isn't he?
Agree - he looks the real deal. Hopefully the perennial LB problem has finally been sorted
A LB who can cross with his left foot! It will never last.
-

What I like first and foremost is he can defend.
-
I'm still reeling from Jack's Usain Bolt "quip".
-
Very impressed with Gueye, Amavi and Ayew so far.
I'd agree with that, all three looked good so far.

I think given it a few weeks and most will have forgotten the name of that greedy twat from Bradford.
-
Can we find a right back like Amavi please!?
-
Veretout on for the second half. Interesting to see how he does
-
Gueye looks a seriously good player. Amavi and Ayew look really good too. Crespo looked better than Archies worst nightmare, I hope he isn't really that injury prone.
We have a very decent set of players out there, when they get to know each other we could be quite a useful outfit. Tim's four four facking two was a bit of a disaster.
-
I still think one more top midfielder is required. Westwood is a decent squad option but these French lads can play a bit. Maybe with Veretout we won't need one but I'd hate to see one of them get injured and find the drop off quite steep. I like Westy but he's not at top PL level which we need to have a bit more of.
-
Sanchez at centre half for the second half
-
Bloody hell. We're not the best of starters are we?
-
Sanchez at CB? lets see how this goes then.
-
He's done this a couple of times with Sanchez , Sunderland away last term springs to mind
-
McCafu is on
Do you want fries with that?
-
I remember NRC playing CB for a half a few years ago
-
I see our defence is still occasionally terrifying.
-
BOOM!
-
Good finish by Sinclair after a lucky deflection
-
Nice finish from Clive
-
Sinclair is capable of double digits. He does get himself into very good positions.
Wow, and to cap it off what a fantastic 3rd goal for Scotty
-
Looks like Sinclair was on here reading my post about him after the last game. ;)
-
McCafu headbutts one of their bloke's boots
-
That was more of a low-head from Hutton than a high-boot by their guy
-
Bloody hell Jack, just stop talking for a few seconds
-
I really don't believe that all these people are Tweeting in from Syria.
-
Bloody hell Jack, just stop talking for a few seconds
Footballers are human beings, not robots! Cheers Jack.
-
Is Gestede on yet ?
-
Booooom!
-
What a cracker from Sinclair
-
What a goaaaal
-
'kin 'ell. He hit that well.
-
I really don't believe that all these people are Tweeting in from Syria.
What they tweeting 'Villa Akbar'?
-
Well done, Scottie.
Beaming me up!
-
Is it 3-2?
-
Booooom!
boooooooooom
-
Is Gestede on yet ?
No
-
Is Gestede on yet ?
Training back at BMH today according to J-Dub
-
Not bad that.
Still don't think he's good enough for a starting place once we have everybody back.
-
Is it 3-2?
1-3
-
Sinclair is having a very good pre-season.
-
Not bad that.
Still don't think he's good enough for a starting place once we have everybody back.
Well, three goals makes you think.
-
We want 4!!
-
What was the not starting well reference and Sanchez?
-
Not bad that.
Still don't think he's good enough for a starting place once we have everybody back.
Well, three goals makes you think.
No complaints here today.
-
Jack's going with Ver-a-2 and I-ooo
-
What was the not starting well reference and Sanchez?
Conceded in the first 30 seconds of the match and Forest hit the woodwork within a minute of the second half starting.
Carlos is at centre half
-
There is a pretty big difference in class between these two sides.
It's nice to be able to say that.
-
There is a pretty big difference in class between these two sides.
It's nice to be able to say that.
Is it that forest are bad or are we putting in a performance ?
-
It'll be difficult to pick the starting 11 next week. And that's a good thing.
I'm not sure about our defending but we definitely have some quality competition for places.
-
Veretout on?
-
Veretout on?
Yeah.
and oh my lawwwd ScottySinclair.

To the tune of George Harrison's My Sweet lord? Great song if so, great possible song if not.

Nice link up between Jordan 2 and Jordan 3
-
Crikey, that was a decent goal.
-
2-3 Angela Lansbury
-
Oh dear. That was coming though.

Poor defending

I'd take Lansbury, even now. He looks class.

Was that a shout out to Footyskillz from Jack there??
-
We've made several changes at the club to give he appearance that we are a proper PL club and a proper business. We have to get rid of Jack because he is such a clown. The drivel is so below what we need in our main club communicator.
-
Was that a shout out to Footyskillz from Jack there??
yeah I tweeted it!
-
I like Jack. He's, er, individual.
-
Was that a shout out to Footyskillz from Jack there??

Haha - I think Jack really will say anything that is put in front of him. It's all very Anchorman.
"Stay Classy"
-
I like Jack. He's, er, individual.
The Eddie Edwards of football commentating.
-
Bugger.
-
Some very poor defending in our pre-season.
-
Now that was proper dreadful defending.
-
New players, same results.......smh
-
OK - I'll say it again - poor defending
-
I like Jack. He's, er, individual.

No surprises again.
Poor second half with one or two exceptions.
-
Finish 3-3
-
No surprises again.
Poor second half with one or two exceptions.
I think you're watching a different match to me.
Baker at fault pretty badly for the equaliser, there.
-
Preseason proves if nothing else that in certain areas you need a consistent set up. And especially in defence.
-
new players look excellent. That's what counts.
-
Don't look great at the back, need to get it sorted asap. Still plenty to be optimistic about.
-
The defence has looked pretty consistent. Consistently poor.
Baker was all over the shop for the third, there.
We were by miles the better team out there, I thought. Technically, we were on a different level to them. We've come away with only a draw, though, which just goes to show how easy it is to throw wins away.
-
What happened for the last equaliser? How was Baker culpable?
-
Nathan (four year contract) Baker gives away another late goal.
-
Another 2 points dropped, we're doomed!
-
Second half we were completely on top. Can't believe anyone would say that was poor
Exception was the defending. Amavi and baker
I thought Cole was by miles the best player in the bits I saw
-
Not the best pre season, but we have a lot of players to integrate into the team.
Still think Joleon should be our next purchase.
-
Mildly irritating to concede a late goal, again, but we did have a makeshift defence on at the time. Quite impressed with Amavi, Gueye and Jordan "Gueye" Ayew. Sinclair looks to have earned a start next week.
Also enjoyed Woodwank reading the shout-out for "Drew Peacock".
-
Pre-season is an exercise is fitness and the results don't mean a great deal, as highlighted by Manure's unbeaten pre-season last year. However the defence needs organisation and Baker still needs to learn how to get into position correctly, which at this stage in his career is a worry.
-
Another 2 points dropped, we're doomed!
Exactly. Two points from Wolves and Forest is unacceptable.
-
No surprises again.
Poor second half with one or two exceptions.
I think you're watching a different match to me.
Baker at fault pretty badly for the equaliser, there.
A lot of huff and puff but with so many new players it was a poor game. Defensively we look to invite teams to put the ball in the box. Up front we're congested. Overall, based on the second half I thought it was a fair result.
-
What happened for the last equaliser? How was Baker culpable?
Standing there like a spare vagina at a wedding until it was too late, one of his usual fuck ups. The new players all look like good footballers thats for sure, and i hope Joe Cole can stay fit as he will have a part to play this season. Sinclair surely booked a place in the team for next week.
-
who was central defence today?
-
I thought Ayew was poor tbf, he looked lost and was pretty much marked out the entire game. Amavi didn't have a great game at the back either, especially their second when he was too static and didn't close his man down.
-
No surprises again.
Poor second half with one or two exceptions.
I think you're watching a different match to me.

I totally disagree.
I thought we looked technically very good. What let us down was the poor defending. Baker for the third was particularly poor, but it's worth remembering, at that point we had Sanchez playing at centre half, not a situation that will repeat itself too often, one hopes.
That was thrown away by a brilliant piece of skill from Lansbury and a defensive clanger from Baker.
-
who was central defence today?
Richards and Clark, who looked very good after the first 60 secs. Crespo and Clark both like statues for the first goal, but both looked a lot better after.
-
who was central defence today?
1st Clark/Richards.
2nd Sanchez/Baker.
-
who was central defence today?
Clark and Richards first half, Sanchez and Baker second.
-
I did think we looked massively better when we switched to 433 / had more players with good movement and ball skills on the pitch
A softer underbelly you couldn't find though. At 3-1 I thought we couldn't screw it up but forest had two attacks and scored two goals.
It's got to be the biggest concern. Defending under Tim has been even worse than lambert's first season and that was the worst I'd ever seen from a villa side
-
Looks like we've got a lot more creativity in the team. Amavi, Gueye and Ayew all looked class. Think we need someone dominant in MF to break play up - Sanchez may well be that man. And hopefully Richards & Clark will stay fit to shore us up better defensively. Crespo looked a decent option to Hutton - hopefully the injury he picked up today won't keep him out too long. Sinclair behind Gestede could be interesting up top so think Tim's got some good options there. Think it could be a far better season than the last 4
-
I thought Ayew was poor tbf, he looked lost and was pretty much marked out the entire game. Amavi didn't have a great game at the back either, especially their second when he was too static and didn't close his man down.
Hutton for all his good defensive work and constantly making himself available to receive the ball out wide, still refuses to cross the ball.
-
I thought Ayew and Amavi were fine. Amavi particularly going forward, his cross for the first was incredible. Ayew is quick, competitive and decent on the ball although he didnt show anything to suggest hes a natural goalscorer. At the very least he's an upgrade on Gabby and Charles.
-
Hutton is similar to Cissokho just better. But ultimately he's a lumbering RB and not really in the Amavi mould. We need a RB version of Amavi.
-
No surprises again.
How are the cataracts?
We may have looked technically very good but pretty clueless what to do with the ball other than not give it away.
-
I thought Robinson looked quite good too. Good footwork
But that defence. Fuck me.
-
Just seen goals on sky, Clive's 3rd was quality, joe Cole looks a wee bit podgy and defence still looks shambolic.
-
Also, I really fucking hate that "who are ya" chant. Firstly, it's disrespectful to a club like Forest who have a proper history. Secondly, we always seem to concede when we sing it.
-
Defence is a big worry interesting that Sherwood in his interview today said he didn't want Baker to leave permanently so perhaps he will be sent on loan and someone else ( Lescott) will come in.
Cole looked decent and worth a squad place , Kozak woefully too slow and weak on the ball.Sinclair great hatrick think he is actually better playing as a striker than a winger.
Overall I suspect the first few months are going to be a rollercoaster whilst the side settles and gel.
-
I thought Robinson looked quite good too. Good footwork
He did look good. Talk of sending him away on loan may not be the greatest of ideas right now.
Veretout on the other hand looked like he'd only met the team yesterday morning. Given that he seems great from dead balls I couldn't understand why he wasn't taking the corners instead of Joe Cole who I wouldn't expect to be starting next week.
-

But we still scored 3 goals. The problem is we gave 3 away, but i suppose playing Baker and a midfielder there (who i still think will be a good player for us) its highly likely.
-
Kozak did look bad didn't he? Disappointing after the wolves performance
-
We did look very comfortable with the ball and the second half's 4-3-3 was a big improvement. It's not so long ago you could put us up against 11 dustbins and we'd still manage to give possession up after 2 or 3 passes. This looks much better. I thought we played well with a few cock-ups rather than played badly.
In both halves Forest managed to put in corners that actually bounced near or in our 6 yard box. Should never happen. Baker was well and truly kippered for the third.
-
Did we have a shot on target after Sinclair's third?
-
Bakers still dog shit, what do you guys see in him? All heart, blood and thunder and mistakes and crap marking.
-
I really really hope he goes 433 against Bournemouth
-
Kozak did look bad didn't he? Disappointing after the wolves performance
After the injury he has had I'm imagining two games in a week is still a massive ask of him and possibly a reason we are looking to bring in another.
-
No surprises we concede goals with Sanchez out of position as a CB. I've no idea what that is all about.
-
It was a friendly

It was a friendly, and more important to give as many people as possible a run out, even if it meant, in Sanchez's case, playing him out of position.
-
Yup agree with that. Get's him some game time, in a position he won't have to do that much running
-

I'd actually play him there but only if we go to a back 3, same for Richards.
It's vital we get another CB in, yes it's only a friendly but slack marking and positioning will be punished in the prem aswell.
-
No! Not a back three! That sounds boring. I want more attackers not defenders.
-
Same feeling leaving the ground as watching the Wolves game, we were much better technically, but defensively we look disorganised. We need a top class dominating Cah and similar standard keeper Richards would be way better as right back.
-
Hopefully by next weekend the defence will line up
------------- Guzan -------------
Richards. Lescott. Clark Amavi
-
Singing "who are ya" after we score . . .
In a friendly? Against forest?
Really? We're not fucking Walsall.
-
Its an improvement on last seasons result there ;)

Lescott would play left side CB, but yes I would be pleased if we signed him too.
-
You're not gonna play Clark and lescott together as two lefties unless in extremis

I can only see Richards playing CB and quite like the look of a Richards and Lescott partnership.

It crossed my mind that Baker got a new contract because we couldn't get Lescott.
-
Why on earth would west brom sell us lescott for £1m?

I don't think they just hand contracts out. I imagine it's just coincidence that we allegedly approached Albion about Lescott and Baker signed a new deal. In fact I am sure that even if we signed Lescott, Baker would received a new contract.
-
Curates oeuf. Good in parts. Amavi is going to be very popular with the Villa fans. I fear for Joe Cole's health. How can he not have got some weight off in the summer if he wants to play Premiership football? Sanchez seems to have spent the summer pumping iron. Talk about brick shithouse. On the subject of those, Richards has to play right back.
-

I realise that. :-)
-

Really? We're not fucking Walsall.
Couldn't beat then either!
-
really shit highlights that only show our goals and then lots of odd editing but worth watching for the Amavi cross and the strike for the 3rd. The cross in particular is a thing of absolute beauty, put them in to that area at that pace and they're impossible to defend.
-
I really really hope he goes 433 against Bournemouth
The problem with that is these teams are highly organised and right now, obviously, we're not.
We we warned about Sherwood's 'death or glory' approach but tonight I'd settle for a point whether it be Bournemouth or any other team as our first game. Playing entertaining football is great when we know what we're doing. I'm still not convinced Sherwood understands the meaning of cautious. Trying not to state the obvious but it's going to be a long season and every point counts. Let's not be stupid from Day 1.

I agree. On the other hand, not being organised means the opposition does not know what to expect and the extensive well documented dossiers are worth diddly squat.
A helter-skelter season beckons, as Timmah's Plan B unfolds. At least he had a Plan B.
-
After the last five years of pure dross..I'll take a bit of gung ho thank you very much
-
Oh I agree. We have to our advantage nobody know anything about us. Very difficult to tactically plan against us. Slightly different to the last few years, what!
As I've mentioned elsewhere, the ball is firmly in Sherwood's court.
-
Amavi can cross a ball can't he?
-
Amavi can cross a ball can't he?
Yeah he really can. I think he is going to be fantastic for us.
-
Went along yesterday. Wasn't that over impressed with us in the first half. We played some really good stuff in the second half though but the amount of goals we've conceded is a worry though although it may be a case of them switching off rather than bad defending.
Richards looks like he might be a hell of a player for us. Sinclair has goals in him which is good and we've got a few to come in and make starts. Cut out the sloppiness at the back and we'll be ok.

@TFS_AstonVilla: Pre-season: Played 6, Won 1, Lost 1, Drawn 4, Scored 9, Conceded 9 Players SIGNED: 9 Senior Players OUT: 12 PROFIT: £6.86m
-
The way I see friendlies......get yourself up to match day fitness, do not overcommit on 50/50 challenges to avoid injuries, try something new that you cannot afford the luxury of during a league campaign. In other words I would not take anything from a friendly to reflect on match day performances.
-

Not sure what the profit has to do with pre-season friendlies but there you go.

I'm fairly certain it's to highlight some kind of negativity but not sure how.
-
Friendlies are purely about match fitness, teams probably aren't doing any homework on their opponents and defenders tend not to go the extra yard when blocking, challenging etc.
So I don't read anything into pre-season goals scored or conceded.
This week's work be all be geared specifically to Bournemouth and the strengths and weaknesses of their individual players and everyone will go out onto the pitch with specific jobs for every defensive situation.
Well hopefully they will.
-
I wouldn't read into it if it wasn't for the fact that we defended like a team of drunks last season too
-

I understand what you are saying but you should not be putting your body on the line in a friendly. I didn't see the game yesterday so I cannot comment how poor the defending was or whether it was similar lapses to what we have come to see over the last few years.
-
It was a bit of a combo. Weak shape at times. Poor marking / closing down.
The full match is on avtv if interested. We played 442 then 433. Thought we were massively better w 433.
Veretout wasn't amazing but he was good enough to convince me he should play in a three next week. Richards' and gueye's, physicality definitely gives us extra. Westwood continues to play the ball more quickly and forwards and is looking really good
Kozak had a very poor game. Ayew was a bit better without looking awesome.
-
I just want to note Jack Woodward really can be incredibly irritating. I swear he is getting worse. Jack STOP adding your stupid little asides, they are not good enough to be interesting, Up your game to Ray Hudson level bollocks or ramp it down a level.
-
Having seen seasons where the pre-season results are good but the season is poor and pre-seasons which are poor but the season is good, I don't tend to feel comfortable when we're doing well in pre-season. I've not been at ease where it's looked like we were doing well.
-

Exactly. You're more likely to be closer to having your 'game head' on when attacking than defending as you won't throw your body in the way of the ball, or go crunching into 50/50 tackles.
-

Jack read out a Tweet wishing triplets a happy birthday, telling us they were all 7 years old.
Just about sums him up in my oppinion

I'm looking forward to the season proper where I'm only subjected to Jack when absolutely necessary and not every minute of a Villa game.
He certainly struggles more without an 'expert' summariser and clearly feels the need to fill the silence with anything.
-
He really does. Some gems from this pre season
"Well thats his first goal this pre season but they all count to his tally"
"We can't show full premier league games, the rights don't work that way." (After someone asked him if we would be showing the full PL games ..... just like Chelsea does)
"The kick off whistle was literally still hovering in the East Midlands air when the goal was scored" (After Forest scored 30 seconds after the whistle blew).
-

Jack's annoying but he's no Ray Hudson, and the mere thought of Jack "elevating" his game to that level makes me consider smashing things randomly as I walk through the house.
-
Jack Woodward is an awful commentator.

You have never watched Premier League highlights(before they dropped it to cut costs) on Irish T.V. Jack would fit right in.
