Aston Villa Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Mark Bunn.
The 30-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the club after his contract at Norwich City expired.
Bunn started his professional career at Northampton Town before signing for Blackburn Rovers where he gained further experience during loan spells at Leicester City and Sheffield United.
He joined Norwich City in 2012 where he played regularly in the Premier League.
Bunn said: "I'm delighted to find myself working with Tony Parks again as he was the goalkeeping coach at Norwich City so he knows me really well.
"Aston Villa is a huge football club and this was too good an opportunity to miss out on.
"I'm looking forward to getting to know my new team-mates over in Portugal at our pre-season training camp and I can't wait to get started."

Is that Randy's jet in the background?
-
Bloody hell. I used to watch him playing non-league at Aylesbury United, when on loan from Northampton.
-
*starts stopwatch*
-
Suggests that Sherwood might not be so down on Guzan after all.
-

Hope so, I'd like to see Guzan as number 1 for next 4 seasons
-
I think he will replace our current 'keeper....so he will be the current Bunn.
-
Good start.
I wonder how much bread he's on?
-
Someone's bound to complain about the level of this signing, lacking ambition etc.
Then it going to unleash a proper Bunn fight
-
Erm ok.
-
I love a good Bunnathon.
-
Erm ok.
So is it the signing or the puns that displease you this time?
-

I would certainly hope that is the case. Far more pressing problems than goalkeeper.

Guzan is still a top keeper.
This is a good signing. I think he'll be able to push Brad for the no1 spot.
-
Tony Parkes was a good keeper and seems like a good influence on the touchline since he came so I trust his judgement especially if he's worked with him before. Looking at the video plus points are he seems pretty good at coming off his line and his reflexes (shot stopping) seem good - possible negatives he doesn't seem to hold things and I've no idea on his kicking or crosses.
Welcome to The Villa Bunny
-
This is the kind of signing that will get bunns on seats.
I've also heard Bunn is pretty hot on crosses!
-
If he fails to save a penalty on a warm day does he become a Hot Cross Bunn?
-

Why? If he feels he needs 2 new keepers, this would surely just be Given's replacement. Not sure how this changes anything for Guzan one way or the other.
Anyway, surely this lad should have signed for Chelsea?
-

On the other hand, bidding for Begovic suggests otherwise.
-
I used to work with his girlfriend.
True story.
-
I think he will need time to prove himself. Maybe leave him in the airing cupboard for half an hour with a damp tea towel over his head
-
I'm sure he'll rise to the occasion
-
I think given the chance he will rise to the occasion.

Because Mark Bunn would appear to be a new reserve goalkeeper rather than a new first-choice goalkeeper.
It's not cast-iron proof that we won't sign another one, but in isolation signing a keeper who is presumably junior to Guzan rather than senior to him gives that indication.

Let's hope he rises to the occasion and proves to a good keeper.
Edit....Bugger beaten to it

eerrrrr ive just got one more question
-
Presume this means Jed Steer will be loaned out?
-
Presume this means Jed Steer will be loaned out?
No doubt he'll have a cob on about that.
-

That's exactly what I thought. This guy won't be coming in ahead of Steer.

And we've just let our reserve keeper go, so needed another one. I don't know what Sherwood's intentions are with Guzan, but replacing one reserve keeper with another doesn't affect that at all. As somebody else has pointed out, a bid for Begovic would suggest that Sherwood wants a replacement for Guzan.
-
Another free transfer. Says a lot about the currant state of affairs.
-
Don't know a great deal about him, but welcome.
-
He'll be a perfectly fine back up. He's not a bad keeper either. We made a move for Begovic as a first choice keeper who still hasn't made a decision. If that comes off great, but we'd stick with Guzan if it doesn't. Which isn't the worst thing in the world.
-
Just as long as Guzan doesn't get a chip on his shoulder and have a downer effecting his performances
-
I wonder how much dough he's on.
-
We seem to be split-tin the puns between this and the transfer rumours thread.
-
This signing offers few crumbs of comfort for me. ;)

subtle, like it ;)
-
Weather looks to be picking up for the weekend. Nice to see the currant Bunn again.
-
Hope he doesn't make too many bloomers
-
I hope this is the first of a batch of signings
-
"Bunn". Are we sure it's spelt like that?
-

Clever.
-
I've got Frankie Bunn in my head now. 6 goals for Oldham in a League Cup game on the Boundary Park shag pile carpet. A Brummie too
-
Welcome to Villa Park Mark.
-
In training, we will have Guzan in one goal and Bunn in the other-en.
-
I did hear that Chelsea were after him but supposedly mucked him about. Although he's happy he's here now you couldn't blame him for feeling a little be sourdough.
-
Presume this means Jed Steer will be loaned out?
Guess so - a place on the bench would be the yeast he'd expect when signing for us
-
He'll enjoy meeting with Nathan Baker.
-
Welcome to the best job you'll ever have.
-
Will he get the number 13 shirt?
-
Will he get the number 13 shirt?
Tidy Joe.
-
I guess he'll be a solid 2nd/3rd choice depending on who else comes in/goes. Welcome aboard.
-
Welcome the Villa barmy army Mark.
-
Welcome to the glorious aston villa, I hope you rise to the occasion. .. sorry😅
-
When's the next batch of signings?
-

You're raisin a good point.
-
I have heard he's hot on crosses
-
Amazing that you guys have managed to stretch this the puns out til page seven! ;D The BBC should be paying you all Ł3 Million a year or whatever it is Michael Mcityre gets ::)
Don't know much about him. 30 is a good a age for a keeper so he has lots of time to warm up (sorry that was the best I could do! :-[) and as long as Guzan stays number one then I don't mind too much, although I would still like keep Given myself.
-

From Chelmsley. I was going to post 'Any relation to Frankie?' but thought people would think it was a pun they didn't get.
-
Welcome Mark, make sure you earn your crust.
-
Welcome Mark, fuck up like Baby Brad did at CiŁy and you are toast 8)
-
I wonder what roll he'll have.
-
Look forward to seeing Mark in the new Paninni album # swapsies
-
Bun deal he's not exactly a 'winner' though is he?!
-
I wonder what roll he'll have.
A sort of sub I reckon.
-
I am surprised this thread on Bunn is not sticky.
-
I thought he did quite well yesterday.
-
Admittedly, I didn't watch all the game but I saw the penalty save and the earlier lunatic charge out of his area. The former was so unexpected it felt like an out of body experience.
-
I think the charge out of the area saved us a penalty or goal. It was Bacuna's fault anyhow.
-
My son and I thought he played a real cool hand yesterday. The charge out was a calculated risk, the penalty was a good body block and he did not let Vardy sucker him into giving away a penalty in the second half. Nice to have a keeper with steady nerves.
-
It was nice to have a keeper that was able to control what he did with the ball when he had it in his hands. He seemed to know when to kick it from his hands and when to roll it out and kick it from the ground.
-
Oh, and not to put the fear of God into his own defence.
-
Admittedly I haven't read too many match reports on yesterday's game but, of those I have quickly looked at all say that Leicester missed a penalty. Whilst that is undoubtably true, I have not seen it reported that Bunn saved a penalty. You may bet your balls that had that been De Gea today or Czech it would have been reported so.
-
Other than his insane charge out of the area he did well.
-
It was a good save Dave. He did the textbook starfish body spread and stopped the shot. No miss about it. Their goal came after he had made a great save and without technology back in the day he would have "saved" the follow up.
-
It was a good save Brian. It's so annoying that these know-nothings fail to report it as such. It makes me angry, they seem to see no positivity in us at all. All this talking us down should only strengthen our resolve, I hope it does.
-
Overall did well and showed self confidence something Guzan has had kicked out of him.
He is never going to be another Rimmer or Bosi but hang on a minute Benteke was never another Andy Gray.
-
He kicks better than Jimmy Rimmer WW. Every kick Jimmy made bent like a banana in flight. I think in golf it is called a hook or a slice. He kicked with his foot at an angle so the flight of the ball was never exactly straight. Otherwise a damn fine keeper.

Before the goal was given, I actually thought he'd made the save of the century.

It was top drawer. My mate questioned his positioning, but Vardy took it so early and should never have been in from a goal kick.
I like him.
-
I don't think Guzan's ever saved a competitive penalty... has he?

I watched the highlights today after being at the game yesterday and thought his initial save off Vardy's lob was superb.

Sunderland away in the League Cup.

Did he save one at Norwich a few season's back?

He used to be good at it. Didn't he save a few in the Peace Cup. Our last glorious cup triumph? Granted not competitive but in his early days it was deemed that Guzan was a bit of a penalty specialist. Last 3 years he's always a country mile off saving the bastards.
-
Bunn has done well. I don't think by any stretch he'll be our number 1 down the line. There's a bit of a Michael Oakes vibe about him. In that he's probably a Premiership number 2 or 3, but he'll be solid enough to fill in, but if it becomes long term you'll see the limitations come to the fore.
But fair play to him, he's done well so far. Hope he keeps it up. If we struggle to sign a decent stopper, there's no reason why he couldn't be our number 1 in the Championship. Long term in the Premiership? I'm not sure. Despite his age, to some extent he's still inexperienced at higher levels. 31 years old and about 160 league games (around half of which were league one level almost a decade ago).

I think Oakes is a good comparison.
With regards to next year you'd think Jed Steer would come back to challenge the number one given he's playing regularly for Huddersfield and seems to be doing alright.
In fairness I thought Bunn was one of those eternal reserve keepers who's played about 5 times in 10 years but he did play half a season in 12/13 for Norwich.
Bit more limited at Blackburn but he did play in their 3-2 win at Old Trafford and a 1-1 draw at Anfield over xmas 2011.
Would still be amazed if we don't get a keeper in this window.

Yeah I don't see Bunn having a late renaissance after years in the shadows, like Steve Harper kind of did.
Steer will hopefully come back ready.
I wonder if Mandanda is still an option.

Thank God he saved that or it could've been embarrassing.
