Title: What to do with the Villa 12- Contract expiring 2016
Post by: footyskillz on June 21, 2015, 03:35:31 PM
I thought I bring to attention the TWELVE players whose contract expires around a year from now in 2016 .

We've already seen Andreas weimann leave for £2.75 mil and figures around £1mil to 4 mil I would imagine be  offered out to move on these players who are seems surplus to squad requirements

The following will either be kept or moved on as they are entering their final year . Contracts extended  or run down. Sold on these summer months/loaned  or given chance to prove themselves .

Who will be kept ?
Who will be sold?
Who will get a chance?
What moneys are we talking?

It's a good chance to discuss the merits of these following players ....and if you think Tim Sherwood would want them and what you too would do.

GK
Shay Given age 39

Defenders
Ciaran Clark aged 25
Nat Baker aged 24
Kieron Richardson (1 year option extension) aged 30
Leandro Bacuna aged 23 (24 by start of 15/16 season)
Phillipe Senderos aged 30
Joe Bennett aged 25

Midfielders
Joey Cole aged 33
Charlie N'zogbia aged 29
Gary Gardner aged 22 (23 by start of 15/16 season)
Chris Herd aged 26

Strikers
Callum Robinson aged 20

I'd hope Bacuna, Gardner and Robinson remain. I'd also hope new ownership would dictate that the rest are not good enough.
Perhaps that's a little rough on Clark and baker...

WATCHING BRIEF

Herd, Gardner and Bennett a chance in first team squad.

SELL/RELEASE
Joe Cole
Charlie Nzogbia
Senderos

UNDECIDED
Richardson
Baker

Gardner, Bacuna and Clark are worth new contracts. Baker we could get money for. The rest are a clutter of either over the hill injury prone semi retired footballers, Championship donkeys or on massive undeserved contracts.

There's probably near £200k a week, £10m+ a season in wages sitting there adding virtually no quality. We could do a lot with that money.

Senderos 30 ? I had him down as 35/36/37 ?
Him and Cole were bizarre signings , Nzogbia an outlay of around £20m how wasteful.
Given needs to hang his gloves up.
I'd like to keep baker Clark and Robinson.
The others are all surplus .

Herds still with us till 2016? Bloody hell.

Honestly, with very few exceptions I would sell them all now or let them go next year. Clark and Bacuna are worth keeping longer. Robinson and Gardner have one year to prove themselves. Baker I like but would sell because of his injuries. If he can stay fit this season however, I'd give him a 2 year deal. Nowt more than that.
The rest can go in the next 12 months one way or another.
Title: Re: What to do with the Villa 12- Contract expiring 2016
Post by: SoccerHQ on June 21, 2015, 04:47:28 PM
Pretty sure Herd signed 4 year deal in 2011 and we're just keeping him on currently so he can get fit and then he'll be released.

As for the others well N'zogbia will not be offered a new deal surely so he'll go on a free we can hope....same for Given unless he wants to stay on as a coach so that's 100k off the wage bill.

Don't think the likes of Senderos, Bennett and Joe Cole will be here this time next year.

Give new contracts to Bacuna and Clark, both showed good periods of form this season and would be good squad players if we signed better for first 11.

I'd move Baker on tbh, don't see him ever being a top premier league centre half and very injury prone.

Keep Clark, Bacuna & Baker. Take up Richardson on the 1 year extension. Possibly keep Robinson.

The rest need to be shifted. In particular Gardner who needs to move on to a League 1 or maybe Championship club so he can play. Its not a slam to say that he needs to be there to play football as a career, he just cannot compete in the Premier League and we need to be able to. There is no point hoping the lad is going to develop into something he already has and he just is not athletic enough for our league.

I wouldn't send Robinson to Preston. He couldn't get a game for them last year and it would seem less likely now they've been promoted and will, presumably, be signing more players.

Loan him to somewhere he's guaranteed to get games. Not Small Heath or Leeds though as I don't want to help them out!

Shay Given            Not sure about Steer so keep him for the year and look for a top keeper to compete with Guzan
Ciaran Clark           Keep, at times last year he showed how he had matured. Needs to keep his hands off players in the box though.
Nat Baker              Sell, would get a couple of mill for him
Kieron Richardson Sell, not contributed anything
Leandro Bacuna    Keep, gives us options
Phillipe Senderos  Controversial but I'd keep, first part of the season was inspired
Joe Bennett aged  Keep, I wonder how much the bullying of the players by the coaches hampered their development and screwed their confidence
Joe Cole                Sell or release, taking a place Gil or one of the kids could occupy. £20,000 a week freed up.
Charlie N'zogbia    Probably couldn't pay someone to take him
Gary Gardner        Keep and use to see if he can hack it.
Chris Herd            Release, too old to improve, probably a Forest or Ipswich level player
Callum Robinson  Keep and promote to first team squad permanently

Keep them all... and get them selling drinks, pies, programmes etc when not considered good enough or fit enough for the matchday squad. I don't mind high wages if people work hard for what they pick up.

Yes, added to this list in deciding what to do with them are the assorted riffraff returning from loan spells - Luna, Tonev, Sylla, Helenius...anymore? What a mountain of hasbeens and nevergonnas. It's a good thing Tim is a positive person. Going through this list is enough to make a sane Villa fan weep.

Nice to see some love for Phil - he was pretty good in the 1st 4 matches of the season - then we played Arsenal/Chelsea/ity with our usual level of success - I more  sub appearance - and he was crocked, iirc

Weird injury. Lambert then Sherwood kept saying it would be "a couple of weeks" but no sign of him the rest of the season.

For the "sells" Other than N'Zogbia and Given I don't think we've got any meaningful transfer fees to lose out on (for once).
If Sherwood really wants rid and if the players can find clubs we could literally give them away (plus their loyalty bonuses #pukes#)

They'll all stay, nobody's going to pay much for them with a year left on their contracts. I'd keep Baker and Senderos for now. They're both back in the pecking order, especially if Richards plays centre-half, but could be decent as back up. If either comes in to the team and does well I wouldn't be averse to giving them a new deal.

I think Zoggy has had enough chances. Wouldn't be averse to loaning him to save a bit of his wages. Can't wait till his contract expires.

Clark really has come on. I think the troubled years on relegation fights has been a great experience for him for learning. I hope not only as a supporter but for Clark and team they get an 'easier' season than that of previous years.
He's a ball player when in confident mood. i remember seeing him in a cup tie ,when we didn't struggle to beat those loiwer teams, take the ball run with it and score an amazing goal it was against Bristol rovers if I recall correctly.
Shades of Gareth Barry back then dare I say.

If someone wants to take Zogbia off us for nothing this summer I'd happily let him go. Bloody appalling player 95% of the time. And the other 5% he manages mediocre. Chance after chance. Not even that shambles Ireland was given chance upon chance to turn his career round here.

There are strong reports linking Bennett with a move to Fulham. They signed jazzz Richards and want Bennett as the other full back. I reckon £1 to £1.5 mil fee. Bought Bennet at £2- £2.5 mil. I think if we are getting a couple of defenders in his lb position okay. As cissoko off too otherwise we need him as a backup.

I don't see where N'Zogbia can fit in this season. If we bring Chery in and Gil is now in Tim's thoughts (as reported), N'Zogbia is slipping ever further down the pecking order whilst on a very high salary. I agree that if we can find a taker for him this summer we should cut our losses.

There's been talk of wba wanting Clark but that's just cheek as they see he's nearing out of contract. Alot of these one year remaining contract players will come up for negoations in coming season so links are there to help both renewing contracting and or getting best possible deal. This is fuelled by agent.
Again looking at list I'd like nzogbia moved on and Bennett. If we have suitable replacements Joe Cole and kieron Richardson too but I think being kept for expereince

Are you talking about keeping Cole when his contract ends, or now?

Surely keeping him on in a year's time will be pretty much unthinkable, given his age and lack of contribution thus far? If this is what he's like now, think what he'll be like in a year's time?

He'll probably be using a mobility scooter by then.

Keep Clark, Robinson and Watch Bennett for me.

Clark showed that alongside a solid and experienced central defender he has skill. We might see himcut out some mistakes this year.

Bennett will have a year to see.

If we can get anything for Baker (Burnley it looks like) or, more importantly N'Zog then I'd sell now. Richardson however I'd keep for ezperinxe for the year. He's not expensive and he has some energy and despite the hate, can do a job when required.

Baker - keep or sell to Burnley ??
I only sell on if we have replacement . but if Sherwood doesn't want to give new contract then makes sense we to cash in. I like Baker boy has been fabulous as a somewhat local and is proper built ! His effort and courage there too see and loves his thundering in challenges and sticking his head in. Good luck to him and will closely watch his career but Baker probably isn't the highest standard similar to weimann . both good efforts and passionate.

Andreas weimann leave for £2.75 mil and figures around £1mil to 4 mil I would imagine be  offered out to move on these players who are seems surplus to squad requirements

The following will either be kept or moved on as they are entering their final year . Contracts extended  or run down.
Who will be kept ?
Who will be sold?
Who will get a chance?
What moneys are we talking?

It's a good chance to discuss the merits of these following players ....and if you think Tim Sherwood would want them and what you too would do.

I expect Bennett to be offered a deal. We seem to have decided, perhaps after Snakegate, that it's better to get players signed up long-term while they're still relatively cheap so as not to lose them for nothing if they turn out to be good.
