Title: Where art thou new Villa kit
Post by: warleyboy on May 27, 2015, 04:31:13 PM
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9866031/new-football-kits-the-strips-from-the-premier-league-and-beyond

Just been looking at some of next seasons kits, (Newcastles looking impressive).
Does anyone have any information on ours, home or away.
First time this season I have not purchased home or away kit, seems as not much thought went into either.

Ours are always late. This season though, in fairness, the players have more important things to worry about than modelling the latest tat.

They're waiting until they know whether they can embroider "FA Cup Winners 2015" under the badge.

Yes. Four year deal signed in Feb 2012.

No idea on the love in with Adidas - if you had red stripes - Stoke/Sunderland/Southampton, they all looked the same. The Palace Macron tops look a rather snug fit...

Apart from the logo, what's wrong with it?
Traditional B&W stripes

Too much blue and the back of the shirt doesn't fit with the front.

It is nice from the front though yes.

It's a dreadful mix. I have no idea what the designer was thinking and how it got approved.

My bad, I liked the Geordie kit from the front apart the logo, but I detest all logo's anyhow.
Strange back to the shirt, I bet there fans are not impressed.

Spuds, Watford and Newcastle all look a bit shit.

I'd like claret (not Macron purple!) body, sky blue sleeves...little stripy bits at collar and cuffs, white shorts, claret and blue hooped socks.

Revolutionary I know, but I'm a hip & groovy kinda guy!

A big favourite of mine was our 2011/12  chequered round neck home kit and the 2010/11 black away kit.

Whatever the away kit, I would like some claret and blue trim in there somehow.

I didn't think they were late under Macron?

I should preface this by saying that i am 1. in my late 40s and 2. Not quite the athletic build I once was, so don't buy replica shirts, but I really do think all the Macron ones have looked either ridiculously crap and with the design values of a league one shirt, or in the case in which they've *nearly* got it right, they tend to over-elaborate on stuff. That neck on last year's home shirt, for example.

The nicest Macron one, I reckon, is the current away shirt.

The Macron kits look alright but the material is horrid. The McCleish season home kit was a nice one as were most of our Nike ones. My favourite is still the Mita Copiers bootlace neck although I did like the one worn the season before (Inter at home 2-0, 5-2 at Spurs)

Just got the away shirt for £10 on Sunday , its quite nice actually material feels pretty decent. No complaints with me.

I'd suggest the issue with shirt this season is knowing what league we will be in and what sponsor is going on the front.

It's almost certainly a mock up, though.
Oddly I quite like both, except the collar on the home shirt.
My first kit was the 69/70 Docherty one, so I suppose it's a sentimental thing

I suppose it all depends what the next company is offering to pay. We might have a clause in the contract in the last year that allows us to break with a lesser penalty than if it was done earlier. We do that in my work where in acquiring new business part of our pro forma is to account for taking over from the incumbent contract. Umbro would be a nice change though. Macron hasn't been horrendous but the quality of the material has been poor overall and I've liked the current home kit design less as the season has gone on. Glad Dafabet will be gone soon also, hopefully not replaced by another betting company.
Title: Re: Where art thou new Villa kit
Post by: KRS on May 29, 2015, 03:16:11 AM
I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Macron contract is cut short now that Tom Fox is now on board running the show. There may well be clauses in the current contract that allow for early termination or he may well have found that a new deal with Umbro would be more profitable regardless of the current deal. Fox would also know that having an association with a well known brand could potentially improve the clubs branding and image, provide more marketing opportunities, generate more via sponsorships and increase sales volumes...generally a more attractive corporate and sales package. I guess we'll find out soon enough as things pan out over the next few weeks.

Macron could produce the nicest shirt in the world (in fact they pretty much have with this year's away top), but by putting those logos on the shoulders they relegate any shirt to a non league looking kit.

I'm all for going back to Umbro, but can't see why we'd spend money buying our way out of a four-year deal (our most lucrative ever) when that money would be better spent elsewhere.  Maybe next year though when the Macron deal is up.

I don't mind the Macron stuff but I wouldn't buy any of it.  Quite like this year's away top though, it's the best we've had in years.

I had suggested earlier, if someone else wants the business we wouldn't have to do anything. The new supplier would be absorbing the cost of breaking a contract to secure one for themselves. Not that I am suggesting this is what is happening here off course and we may very well have Macron kits for next season.

I love Macron, mates, and I am very surprised to acknowledge that I am in a minority.
Classy design inspired to tradition, proper shades of claret and blue, and, above all, sartorial models dedicated to the Villa, whereas the big manifacturers (apart from Umbro  :-*) would impose one of their hidous standardized designs (with awful collars or trims) that they do for all the teams they sponsor.
They mix the great old English tradition  with the Italian style.
I think that the current home kit is perfect.
My only concern is that next kit will be inferior.

Infact, for my Italian team Macron realised some beautiful kits. . .

But for the next kit they felt the need to change, to dare more in order to realise some special effect, and the result is not as brilliant as the lattest.

Wasn't Tom Fox's biggest achievement that he negotiated their enormous Puma deal?

I imagine shirts is an area where he'd be delighted to get stuck in.

Re getting out of a deal, totally possible if enough money is at stake and there is a willingness on both sides.

I know the bloke who, at 32 Red, negotiated their sponsorship deal with us. He said it was incredibly cheap, so much so that one of the first things Randy did when he arrived was try to get us out of it

Can't see it happening. On VT that Delphinho poster has already seen the kits, he posted pictures of them from the past two or three seasons well before any leaks came out. Not official shoot pics but manufacturing instructions with illustrations on.

I think he probably works for Macron. West Ham have changed to Umbro from Adidas and they announced it a while back, not sure how long their Adidas contract was for.

If we did have Umbro I'd be quite happy but nothing points to it from what I can tell.

I have it from a very good source that they all had to be modified to include a black armband, thus the delay.

I think that Macron is 1000 times better than Under Armour.
The Spurs current kit is awful. It was not easy to make a bad kit when you have to work with white and navy, but they did it with those horrendous yellow trimmmings.

The rumour is Under Armour. Obviously new shirt sponsor. Dafabet are sponsoring Sunderland next season.
Is our Dafabet deal over then?
Is there anything to prevent them sponsoring 2 clubs? FXPro sponsored us and Fulham at the same time.

That shirt was pretty good. Nice material and classic style design. I had one and used to wear it every weekend in the pool for my daughter's swimming lesson. It's retained both colour and the sponsors logo surprisingly. The shoulder stickers peeled off shortly after I got it (with a little help from me).

I had the one that was similar to the 82 Le coq one the season before last. The material was that shit I couldn't wear it in the Qld heat. It was absolutely terrible. So I didn't bother getting last seasons shirt. I liked both designs- especially the away shirt, but didn't trust the quality to buy one.

That last claret shirt is West Ham's this season. I admit I am fond of the Muller stripes home kit, I was young, but I have come to realise Villa home tops should never ever be anything other than claret shirts with blue sleeves. The NTL stripes and NTL "pink" Angel shirts were dreadful. We've been lucky, don't think we've worn a shirt that hasn't had blue sleeves for almost fifteen years now. Compare that to the Doug era - side panels, halved shirts and stripes every once in a while.

you're right it has no chance to be the actual kit, but that's quite nice. Especially if the sponsor logo was far more conservative. I thought there was limit to the logo in terms of size and content anyway?

I'm no traditionalist, as long as it's claret and blue I don't care. To be honest i get bored with the home kits, what can they do really? That applies to all teams though. The away shirt is where it's at. I say this every season but I'd much rather have a batshit design that would split opinion than playing it safe. So many shirts are just 'meh'. I'm glad I don't support a one colour team otherwise I'd be really bored.

I just think it's alright. I liked last seasons away kit but a lot of people didn't. It was a little different though. I don't like the green, black and red striped asics muller kit but I'd rather an attempt at something different. Most are pretty uninspiring nowadays.

When trippy hippy folk singer Donovan sung that that "Yellow is the colour of my true love's hair" he was not kidding around, but he was was probably on drugs.
No wonder they called him Mellow Yellow (quite rightly).

That we've had yellow kits before. I thought it was pretty obvious as my post says "we've had yellow away kits before". Maybe I need to simplify it a bit.

Does that mean we have had a yellow kit before or we haven't?

Brain completely fried now!
Have we ever had a yellow kit?
I'm colour-blind (red/green) but yellow can be a bit, well...yellowish!

We had a yellow away kit in the early 70's and one I think mid 90's when Mitre sponsored us.

I've already said that I'm not a fan yellow shirts no matter what club is wearing them. You then stated we've had yellow before which I considered to be common knowledge.. just for the sake of saying it then?

I figured you would've wanted me to comment on those past kits or elaborate, but I guess it was just to say we've worn yellow before. Dead end.

For some reason, on a thread about kits, where the rumour is we have a yellow away kit, me saying we've had yellow away kits before, seems to bother you and you think the post was only intended for you to see and comment on. Which is a tad bizarre.

Probably best left there fellas, it's not making for good reading. Back to the actual issue of yellow kits. I see the potential if done right, a fine example is the red and yellow stripe Barcelona away kit. That was ace, I would love to rock up to an airport on my holibobs wearing that and a nice set of khaki shorts/clean white trainer combo. The dullard mock up above? Not so much. Nike seem to be very good at closing the gap between football shirts and general fashion, I'm afraid I very rarely wear my macron shirts apart from to 5 a side and on match days. Last years away was the best offering by a country mile...I hope we get something of similar ilk

The little hill motif shows that the road to Villa's greatness is not an easy one.

The turning of the corner of the page shows that we are starting a new chapter in the history of this mighty club.

Its a good message and a shirt I will be buying.

Amount of Man City shirts I've seen this weekend in sunny Horsham, many many many miles south of Manchester, is depressing. And I see so many Barcelona shirts every where you'd think we were in Spain. The amount of smug smiles and snide remarks I get when people see me in a Villa top..... I honestly cant remember our public image being so low and scorned at as it seems to have become this last 3-4 years - and that goes for the season we were in the 2nd Division in 1987.

To me there are two varieties of the claret shirt with blue sleeves that Villa usually wear - either the traditional one where the arms alone are blue ie 80-81 championship shirt or our current top, or a claret shirt with blue sleeves that cover the shoulders as well ie David Platt 1989-90 Mita shirt, 2008-09 Acorns top we wore vs Ajax. I much prefer the first category which it looks like we have got in the badge kissing picture. Blue socks too please, Villa although I did quite like the black ones from about 2-3 years ago.

Now I may not be at the cutting edge of fashion in my advancing years but sky blue fucking chinos!!! And an open bomber jacket??!!! Personally I'd close the bomber jacket so we didn't have to look at the Tshirt. But also I wouldn't be wearing a bomber jacket which surely went out of vogue at the end of the Miners strike?

Also would you wear your charcoal/distressed black jacket (I'm assuming a Linen mix here) with sleeves rolled up or down as combined with the blue chinos I'm getting a Don Johnson Miami vice vibe.

FFS.....

I was talking distressed leather but enough of that, I quite like the top and its left - field feel. Let's hope we have a few more items in this years range that are similarly out there.

Personally I'd go with a distressed black or a charcoal.

I often get distressed when I see Gabby's name on the team sheet!

I think it may well go with my zip up cardigan with leather elbow patches, sensible beige slacks and stout dark tan brogues. I may set it all off with a Paisley cravat and canvas driving gloves a la Alan Partridge Sports Casual.

It's working for me on Firefox and Chrome but not on Internet Explorer 11.  It's buffering a bit to start with but then settles after a couple of minutes.  I have loads of bandwidth and a fast PC, the buffering is one or more of the servers struggling a bit.  The front page is on avfcplc.co.uk but they've hired a 3rd party (streamamg.com) for the actual video feed.  I'd guess it's them that are struggling.

There's a cog icon on the bottom right when you move your mouse over the picture.  Try clicking that and then selecting 720p.  If it's still poor then your picture is probably degrading due to a lack of bandwidth.  Mine's quite clear.

all very well going on about how massive we are and what a great squad we supposedly have but where have we finished in the league last four years? the talk has to stop and its about time we starting doing it on the pitch cos everyone else is laughing at us.

Really? I've never noticed.

Best home kit by Macron so far and right up there with the first Acorns Nike shirt. Clearly based on the 80/81 shirt which I've wanted to be replicated for a while so you can't really go wrong with that.

The away shirt...well...its yellow. No where near as good as last seasons away shirt. They should have just done a matching away 80/81 shirt.

Of course it is something an agency came up with - do you honestly think even our leaders are dim enough to entrust the kit launch campaign to school children? It was the video background to the Jim White thing.

They're not that nuts.

Yep agree. The design is isn't fussy and the collar is very good and caps it off. Especially after that hideous effort in the first year. I might even get the yellow away, though I said that last year too about the white and didn't bother.

Like the home shirt. A nod to the 80/81 season and indeed to the Umbro shirts from 1975 onwards to 1981. The spelling of Villans without the "i" is the correct one.

Not keen on the yellow - reminds me of a bad day at Wembley at the end of May! Plus I do not think yellow has been that lucky. Didn't we lose an FA Cup quarter final at Anfield in the 90s wearing a yellow kit, which was then promptly binned. I would prefer an all white with c&b trimmings as the away kit.

An interesting web site to browse is www.historicalkits.co.uk
Mildly surprised at how many clubs have worn claret and blue strips at one time or another in their history. But no club in Scotland as far as I could see.

On the back of the home shirt collar it says Villans, should it not be Villains like this website.
When I began following Villa in the mid 70's our nickname was always written as The Villans. The additional i seems to have crept in more & more over the last 40 years so that Villains has now become the most common spelling. I was surprised when I discovered this site by the use of the version with an I.

Went to the launch event. Actually a lot more enjoyable than I expected...even Jim White was good. Two good kits as well, however the two Villa ladies were the most attractive things on view!

I used to find Norman Collier's act absolutely hilarious.

If he came back now (he must be dead by now) doing the same act, I'd still laugh every time.

Sponsor logos ruin kits on an increasing scale. The words Intuit(ion) and Quick written on various players , say Jack or Charlie, when they do something dumb will be meat and drink to headline writers.

The ad campaign is very mis-guided .
We were a big club, we want to be big again. In the current climate we really aren't.
I like Grealish as a future talent for example but he's in that pic and is yet to even score a PL goal.

Surprised they didn't show the keepers top, seeing as probably only Given and Steer were available does this mean that they are surplus?

It's because we're going to be so brilliant next year, we won't be needing goalkeepers. We won't be doing any defending.

Well no change there then.

We've not much defending for the last 3 years.

I agree, by and large, though probably not quite so forcefully.

The kits are pretty nice, though. That's an unexpected positive.

Macron have, by and large, made us look a bit third division the last few years, this is a step forward.

I really don't see why so many people have a problem with it.  We've got a manager who is positive and straight talking and we want that slightly arrogant honesty to be reflected by the club. I see what people are saying with the whole "don't tell me, show me" thing but I think a lot of Villa fans are guilty of wanting the club to live by that motto but also wanting the club to make statements about everything so they're fucked either way anyway.  For me we've had 5 years of almost unremitting negativity, anything that at least tries to address that gets my backing.  I'd love it if this goes a bit viral and gets picked up in the press to start some articles about how big a club we really are, maybe that way we wouldn't get stories of people arriving and being surprised by how big a club they've joined (which is directly referenced in one of the quotes).

I agree the fonts are a bit shit but I get what they were going for and I like the idea.

As for the kit, I think the sponsor is ok, I'm a bit surprised so many people think it's so huge.  The kits themselves look superb, The away kit is a great colour and I like the black badge, etc. The Keeper shirt on the bottom of the last page is very good as well.

I suppose that's the standard rate in the Premier League. And the thing I understand least of all the things I fail to understand about the insanity of modern football is that some people would rather pay top price at a club shop than less in Sports Direct or wherever "so the club gets the extra".

They'd point to some small print on the website that the club cannot guarantee players staying or their squad numbers.   And lets be honest, given how mercenary the modern footballer is, who could guarantee that the players used in a kit launch would be there come August 31st?

Still, at least Miss Cusack should still be a Villa player then....

Took one of my lads down to the club shop. Fairly busy but he was not impressed with the quality of the shirts so much so he didn't want me to buy him one! Must admit, the tops aren't a patch on last season's in style or quality. The sooner Macron are replaced the better.

I would like to see us do a deal with Under Armour - they do some nice stuff.

I have to vent this. My 4 year old son is getting into goalkeeping and asked me for the new keeper kit, £75 later he has the shirt with his name on the back and the shorts, nothing else. That is fucking outrageous!

It's your own fault for giving him the surname Vennegoor of Hesselink.

I just paid £68 for a shirt, PL badges, number 10 and my son's surname. Ordered online and the effing thing don't fit him. It's like a tent, it'll be years before it fits. No refund because it's personalised.

Reckon they'll accept slightly charred Delph ones?

Oxford United have chosen a winning slogan to accompany their kit launch, I see.
