Are we actually playing tomorrow?, is there actually another team besides Liverpool in the tie??, just watched what is laughably called "football focus" we literally didn't get a mention, I hate the BBC at the best of times but this was just a fucking insult. Their coverage is just as biased as their election coverage. I HATE THE BBC! You bunch of thieving tossers.
-
Couldn't agree more. Never been so irritated with the BBC as I am these days.
-
BBC once again focus on their favourites. There are 4 clubs in the semi finals and guess which one didn't warrant a mention other than we are playing tomorrow. Feature interviews on Arsenal, Reading and Liverpool, nothing on Villa, bloody appalling so called unbiased reporting.
Spent more time talking with Pardew. If you're a Midland club it like being invisible to the BBC.
Something needs doing about how the BBC ignores clubs outside the North West and London.

Hopefully by 6pm tomorrow, we will have done something about it by beating the fuckers.
-
agreed absolute disgrace. The biggest mention was that Liverpool will have to watch Benteke! No shit Sherlock!
-
smug self satisfied tossers ; a change of funding to bring them into the real world long overdue.
-
WTF! Wish I'd seen this thread before watching Football Focus on the player I could have saved myself the time. What an absolute joke! Hardly mentioned. The 3 others all had pieces/interviews. Were we on it the week before or something???
-
Wouldn't it be 'nice' if the BBC was a subscription service rather than licence fee!
-
I don't care. If we do the business tomorrow they will be forced to take notice. We've made it easy on the media these past few years to become invisible. We are playing better, have a much more positive and upbeat manager and have a good chance of winning tomorrow. They might talk about Gerrard's tears but slowly but surely we'll get our dues. But we have to earn it.

spot on
-
Agree with Toronto. Who gives a shit?
-
Who cares. They'll probably talk about the game before the Arsenal vs Reading game later.
-
Apparently the BBC requested interviews with Villa this week but we turned them down.
-
Dan Walker taken some stick on Twitter over it and replied with this:
@mrdanwalker: I know we didn't have #AVFC on today but club turned down our Benteke request this week and we've had Sherwood & Delph in the last month.
So it doesn't sound as though they were that arsed.
-

No issue with that. Sherwood likely wanted to focus on the task ahead than spending a couple of hours doing interviews only for it to be cut to 5 minutes to accommodate more time for the Gerrard love in.
-
Wouldn't it be 'nice' if the BBC was a subscription service rather than licence fee!
no!, it would be nice if the pricks were taken off air completely.
-

this, absolutely fucking this.

what real world though? The real world has us being completely gash for ages to the point of being irrelevant. I know what your probably saying in that it should be more balanced but in the real world nothing is balanced.

Agreed. I couldn't give a damn about the BBC or anyone ignoring us anyway, it all comes across as a bit small time in my opinion.
They'll be fighting to get our attention when we win the Cup though.

Can't agree with that. The BBC is absolutely brilliant.
-
bbc boring broadcasting corporation
-
I don't see how you correlate a poor editorial decision with the way the BBC is funded. This sort of skewed coverage happens in the commercial sector as well.
Despite the fact that we turned down interviews, a feature could still have been put together using a bit of imagination. The show just seemed terribly unbalanced with features on 3 of the 4 semi-finalists.
Abolition of the licence fee would only exacerbate the lack of balance in football coverage with viewing figures and advertising revenue holding sway.

Apart from Five Live which has gone down the toilet the past few months.

Quite. There are more important things in the world to concern yourself with.
My neighbour's cat got stuck up a tree last week.
-
Good grief what a load of Faragabollocks*.
* Bizarre paranoia induced ramblings.

I suppose it could put more pressure on Liverpool to deliver.

I'm sorry but I just don't buy this. We're irrelevant in the league but we're in the semi final of the FA Cup. When they're doing a piece on the semi final of the FA Cup it shouldn't be too much to ask that we aren't totally ignored. Reading are more irrelevant than us but even they get a mention!
-
There was some shit piece on their shit website the other day about how the underdogs Villa and Reading actually stood a chance of getting to the final, as it's happened a few times in the past. Never read so much patronising bollocks in all my life.
-
Apparently the BBC requested interviews with Villa this week but we turned them down.
Where did you hear that?
-
If that's true, maybe it's because of their hysterical reaction to the events at the QF. Fair play, if so.
-
BBC ignores a good news story from Birmingham shock. If we set off a flare or something it'll be all over the news 'til Tuesday.
-
Good grief what a load of Faragabollocks*.
* Bizarre paranoia induced ramblings.
Yeah! - actually your right, the entire programme was about the Villa and we imagined the whole thing.
-
When we win the club should refuse any pre final interviews or be part of the build up
Fuck the bbc
Boring boring dinosaurs
-
I like the BBC for everything outside of the football department.
Their football coverage is garbage, worse in my opinion than most tabloids. They have the worst journalists and pundits of any major source.
I am pleased to see other Villa fans feel the same way. Sometimes it takes the drip drip drip of incompetent club coverage (Pat Murphy in our case) or a single event such as the FA Cup "dark scenes" scandal (for them, not us) but once you see it, you resent it. I know I do.
The BBC has awful , lazy, football coverage I assume simply because nobody gets fired for the terrible work they do.
-

Maybe Sir Alex was right when he stiffed them for a decade or so.

I agree with much of what you say but let's be careful: ITV's football coverage is absolute gash. The ITV commentators are friggin' awful.
-
Have a watch of some of their classic fa cup semi finals, currently showing on the BBC website. Compare the quality commentary from the like of Davies and Motson, compared to the current crop, like three chinned know it all Jonathan Pearce and whatever his name is, mumbling along at the semi final today.
-
Danny Murphy is good

Oh true, but I regard ITV as simple minded but enthusiastic idiots. The BBC I regard as lazy incompetents.
:)

the bbc just a ring of peados who look after each other other in the bbc circle
-
bbc = Bland Bigoted, just cant think of a word beginning with C that fits?
-
A lot of BBC radio is very good. TMS comes to mind.
-
A lot of BBC radio is very good. TMS comes to mind.
Agree on TSM but the football on Five Live is terrible.
-
Radio 5's gone downhill a lot IMO. For news, R4's much better. I don't mind paying the licence fee, it's giving money to Murdoch's empire that I resent, but in reality probably can't avoid.
-
Your right I listen to Radio 4 at work.
-
I quite like some of 5 live. Kermode and Mayo is excellent.
-

Strange as the O/S showed pictures of the media day on Tuesday in which Benteke gave countless interviews to the newspapers so surely they could've just turned up then?
I'll cut them a bit of slack though as they're not covering the game this weekend so see what sort of coverage BT give us.
-
I quite like some of 5 live. Kermode and Mayo is excellent.
Friday isn't bad but Dan Walker is cack the rest of the week.
-
Your right I listen to Radio 4 at work.
Never in the history of humanity has anyone who wrote 'your right' and 'I listen to Radio 4' ever been known. Nor allowed by other listeners.

I miss Radio 4, but that is it as far as the BBC is concerned.
If ever an organisation has lost its way the BBC is it.

I think it's a safe guess that he was referring to the grammar mistake and the average R4 listener being the sort to notice and tut.
-
Ah balls! Back of the queue when grammar was being given out I'm afraid.
-
Tut is the least punishment. Pursuing out of England with farming implements borrowed from The Archers more likely.
-
I listened to the TalkSport commentary this afternoon and can't get that song about the Hedgehog Gutter Brush out of my head

Is that a euphemism?

They have a chance to redeem themselves tonight but I suspect MOTD FA Cup special will be a wake for Stevie rather than a celebration of Villa's magnificence.

Is anyone NOT staying up to watch?
-
I'm a
little no a lot drunk and in drink I tend to nod out. The alarm has been set on my phone just in case!
-
My missus is comatose right now. That's what an FA Cup Semi Final win and six pints will do for you.
Fortunately, I have a brew on and remembered. Christ, I'm good to her.
-
Is anyone NOT staying up to watch?
I am, even though I've got to be up at 5am for the flight home.
-
Not only am I watching it but recording it too so I can watch it again..........and again..........and again.......

I want it to be, because how fucking funny will that be?
-
Right this minute the BBC are showing their best programme for years.
-
I'm even enjoying listening to Jonathan Pearce. Which is something I never thought I'd say. I like the words 'superb' and 'brilliant' he has been bandying about.
-
I liked the way Pearce described Benteke as'a giant Redwood Tree!'
-
That was the most pro-Villa MOTD for years. Thanks Dion!
-
and ruined this morning when some tosspot introduced his semi final report by saying 'this was meant to be Liverpool and Stevie G's day'. Why? Were we supposed just to turn up and throw the match to accommodate them? What biased, lazy, clichéd bollocks.
-
Not sure where the feed was from but espn commentator called Us underdogs after the first l'pool attack. Then after he'd had 5 or 6 minutes to think about it after the equaliser said Big Ben chimed in the capital. I had a feeling we'd win today so the patronising shit washed over without too much annoyance, but fkn hell, get a grip you c***s, we're not some 2 bob outfit making up the numbers
-
BBC should start firing Liverpool fans, and make Dion Dublin the king pin for BBC Sport with Ian Talyor, Andy Townsend and co in pundit team :)

Twas Martin Tyler, the colossal prick. Tbf, by the end he couldn't repeat enough how much better we'd been than 'The Mighty Reds YNWA'.
Tired now, the adrenalin was going off the scale when the match finished at 2am, it's been a tired but very happy Monday.
You fookin beauties..................................

Don't forget Keown was on there too. I know he is very much an Arsenal man but have heard him speak of his time here (when we were shit) and say how massive a club Villa are.
-
you have to remember that it was completely natural for us to be considered underdogs at kick off. When you consider the season we had, following on from the past 2-3 seasons its hardly a leap to think that a CL side would be considered favourites for the game. But on merit we completely turned things on its head and in fairness to Tyler he was hugely complimentary as the game went on. I will stand by my point that we are getting the coverage our form deserves and we will only get proper respect once we've earned it over a sustained period of time. We last won a major trophy closing in on 20 years ago. That is a very long time in football terms and most people now think of us as simply making up the numbers in the PL. I am sure that will now start to change and the national audience will have witnessed an Aston Villa they have not seen in a long, long time. A very attractive, attacking side built at a fraction of the cost of our opponents with a number of very likeable talented players and added bonus of English content including the manager.

While I agree that we have scarcely deserved a mention over the last few years, the lack of balance on both Football Focus and the BT coverage was very poor.
The fact that we had got to the semi put us on level terms with the other three teams and the coverage should reflect that. It shouldn't portray us above our ability by any means and the promotion of Arsenal and Liverpool as favourites is entirely fair but for FF to abandon any feature because we refused interviews was lazy. As for BT, not looking beyond their usual pool of "pundits" showed an equal lack of imagination. With Owen destined for the commentary, balance should've been sought elsewhere. It is a trend to have representation from either club for games, something BT ignored. And you can't count David James who played for both clubs. It ended up with Owen citing spurious reasons for Liverpool's defeat such as the amount of games played by each club, something seized upon, and dismissed, by James, but that was too little too late.
Of course, there are pressures from advertisers and those collating the viewing figures but is it to much to ask for some journalistic credibility?
I think I've just answered my own question.....
-

Did you see how happy David James was at the end of full time when Sherwood shook his hand? He had a massive smile on his face.
-

See I would be quite amused by that comment as I would have taken it as irony. A bit like the Villa fans singing "Happy birthday Stevie G" after the match.
-
Dion Dublin was very favourable towards us on the covergae, he was grinning ear to ear and I'm sure he actually said "good" When Ballotelli was flagged offside
-
I thought BT Sport were saved by Humphrey getting Owen and Mcmananamanam to clearly state their Everton allegiance and James very much sitting himself as the Villa man. He looked delighted and was embracing the very Tigger like Sherwood at the final whistle.
-
On the flipside to the above, this week's Football Weekly podcast spend the first nine minutes of the hour-long running time talking about Villa. Not the match and a load of whining about Liverpool (which followed after), just Villa's part of the game.
-
Dublin doesn't even attempt to calm his Villa bias.
I saw him doing punditry on one of our matches a while back, and the presenter said to Dublin (after he'd gleefully talked about us winning) "you're maybe a bit biased there, Dion?"
To which he said "Too right I'm biased. That's five and a half years worth of bias".
Tangent, but did anyone see the on-pitch nonsense with McManaman, Savage and Dublin (can't remember if it was pre or post match)?
They were all stood there, and Dublin was definitely doing a "Homes Under the Hammer" style stance. They've clearly been drumming into him the need to adopt the same stance as that bouffant haired ponce presenter.
-

Dublin is hugely pro Villa.

I knew Owen was an Everton fan as a kid. Let's face facts no former Liverpool player/fan would go to Yah-nite-id. Never knew about McPermanaman.
James had so many clubs difficult to tell - suppose Pompey would be the one he had greatest soft spot for.

I thought exactly the same when Dublin was on Match of the Day on Sunday night. He was clearly doing his Homes Under the Hammer stance with his hands clasped together just like that bouffant haired ponce does and has obviously been hammered into him.
It's great to hear 2 ex Villa players (Dublin and Keown) talk so positively about us on the BBC though.

I noticed it too. I think he'll be good at it as well, as good as the bouff' presenter anyway.

Current Kerala Blasters legend David James.
He's still their player/manager.

We all hear what we want
I heard Owen say ' Villa were brilliant today, ran Liverpool ragged, they couldn't cope with them'
He and Mcmanermanerman spoke very highly of our performance after the game I thought
Savage is just a knob, anything he says is just irrelevant
-
but for once he was pretty positive about us. Still a tool though.

I am sure I remember a David James Observer column in which he said that sometimes players don't form a bond with their club which lasts any longer than they play for them, and that in his case, it was us he didn't feel a bond with.

Petty, I know, but flapping at that free kick in the Cup Final severed any bond I felt for him...
Dumping him for a past his best Peter Schmeichel probably didn't do much to endear the club to him either.
-
He didn't help himself, spending all night wanking, I mean playing Fifa and losing us the game. I know we were shite but to lose it to a mistake was awful
-
I never felt confident with him in goals, especially on crosses
I would prefer Enkleman to James
-
Always played well when he came to Villa with Portsmouth though.
-
Petty, I know, but flapping at that free kick in the Cup Final severed any bond I felt for him...
Same here. If we win on 30th May then I MIGHT finally find it in my heart to forgive him.
-

Not sure about that John. I thought he was superb for us and I can't recall him making too many errors barring the one in the cup final.
-

Im sure I heard James say this afternoon "we" when they were discussing a Liverpool move on Bt sport I shall have to watch it again.

Our biggest game for 18 years and the Holy Grail of Villa fans was not an ideal time to make that one error!
