That is all.
-
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Well done Benteke. Now go and take this, build on this for your confidence and go and save us
And well done Tim. Your first win as a Villa manager
-
Yes!
-
in before the lock ;)
-
Get the fuck in.
Oh and have that you stripey bastard ******
"Justice for football" my commentator said.
-
Really really happy.
-
Much deserved. I am still shaking.
-
Still shaking
-
im still shaking!
-
A win? W-I-N?
What strange sorcery is this?
-
If ever I was going to use OMG in my language it's now.
Fucking OMG
-
I had genuinely forgotten what that feels like. Which is to say absolutely fookin brilliant.
I said on the match thread - half jokingly - that Foster not getting sent off was a positive and so it proved. He was utterly gash all night.
Scott Carson > Gabor Kiraly > bottom of the barrel > Ben Foster
-
I've done myself an injury celebrating that goal.
I don't fucking care. Thank fuck. We've won.
Up The Villa everyone
-
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssss!
-
Thank fuck. Good tactical changes from Timbo as well.
-
Thank F&&k for that. Not easy knowing if it was a Pen or not when all you've got is arabic commentary...... #thegreatescapebegins
-
How great to see a manager with passion at the end!
-
Can someone post the goals up please? I want to watch them till dawn.
-
...exhausted....fantastic result...we can push on from here....last minute pressure winner....get in!!
-
A fuckin superb win and well deserved.
-
About time we had some luck. We really need to build on this. UTV
-
Thank you, Ben Foster. My favourite last minute Baggies defensive howler since Brendan Batson.
-
I don't care how it was done we just did it. Finally a tiny bit of luck our way, should have been out of sight at half time, the win has just got to spur us on now.
-
Get fucking IN!
Been in the office over an hour, have done fuck all but refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh...................
-
Thank you Ben fucking Foster you moron. That was brilliant.
So much better tonight. Sherwood got it right (can't believe I'm typing that!) with the extra men in midfield. Out of the relegation zone! Take that Smethwickites!
-
Sweet Jeebus! My nips are tingling. Get in you beauty.
-
That was an ice cold penalty from Benteke.
I was sure he was going to miss.
-
The stripey filth only had one attempt on goal against the run of play and I thought that would be it but no what a finish.
-
I woke the kids up with my clapping and cheering. I've aged 10 years.
-
Holy fucking shit, I was shaking like a shitting puppy when he took that penalty. Couldn't watch it.
Fucking hell. Fucking fuck.
Fucking football.
-
Excellent win, a really enjoyable performance for the first time in years.
And….I think our Tim out-tictac'd Pulis! Ace!
-
Been given a bollocking for shouting and jumping. Oh yes !! We might stay up. Oh and we will on Saturday. Get the f@uck in.
-
Benteke is the Ice Man. Take this run son. Take this and run.
-
This result has just topped off an already good day. Get in.
-
Now to knock them out the cup.
-
If ever I was going to use OMG in my language it's now.
Fucking OMG
Ha! You might have heard me from Dawlish Ian! How cool is The Beast? He'll be on a roll now!
-
I am speechless, I am without speech.
-
Pulis's reaction was a treat as well.
-
I woke the kids up with my clapping and cheering. I've aged 10 years.
Ditto
-
Fucking brilliant. We were excellent in the first half, but I thought the chance was gone. Really got to see us keep going for it right until the end. Thought we played much better as a team and Grealish did well when he came on.
-
Best night Villa's given me since the Emirates last season. A fucking win, but more than that, I'd slapped a tenner on 2-1 with Gabby to score first.
660 quid richer and more importantly absolutely chuffing delighted that we won today. Deservedly so.
That was intense. I thought Bacuna had blown our last chance.
It's not been an easy season to watch, but tonight is a good night. We were pretty good at times today. Sherwood got it right.
Guzan- 6: Not much to do. No chance for the goal.
Hutton- 7: Solid as always, even if he's a dirty sod. Kept on bombing forward all night.
Okore- 6: Made a few unforced errors today, but that last ditch interception when Ideye was through was quality.
Clark- 7: Solid
Lowton- 8: Impressed me today. Dependable on the ball. Did well at the back, despite getting isolated a couple of times.
Cleverley- 8: His best game for us IMO.
Delph- 7: Much more like it.
Westwood- 7: Did well. We had control of the midfield.
Gabby- 7: A threat today.
N'Zogbia- 6: Lively at times. Ran out of steam.
Benteke- 6: Not at his best. That goal will do him the world of good.
Grealish- 7: Thought he was confident and lively. Did well.
Bacuna- 5
Weimann- 5
-
Our first penalty and what a time to get it.
-
I was an athiest but now I'm not so sure...!!!!!
-
Fantastic !
-
Gabby to score first, us to win 2-1. 66-1
Have I just blown a tenner? Probably.
I'm praying that the law of Derby Gabby comes into play and he'll turn up today.
Somebody even happier than the rest of us.
-
That was an ice cold penalty from Benteke.
I was sure he was going to miss.
Absolutely superb penalty, to take a penalty like that in the circumstaances in the game/season takes a huge amount of self confidence.
-
Wow. I had forgotten what it felt like to win.
-
Thank you big man. Thank you boys. Thank you McGrath!!!!
-

Wow.
-
Stan is on the post match stuff on BT.
-
Northampton and Walsall also won. Good omen....
-
What a rollercoaster of emotions. From being utterly pissed off that we'd chucked away two points, to the sheer joy of getting the penalty, to then being convinced we'd miss it, to the unbelievable elation of it going in. Fuck me.
-

Quids in...............Well done ;D
-
Brilliant! Had to keep tabs on the score via text as out to a business dinner and could barely contain myself when the winner went in!

Wow.
To be fair given Gabby's record against them and the fact any win we got would be very tight, and we were unlikely to keep a clean sheet, a 66-1 was pretty generous.
-
Awesome, congrats Supertom!
-
As an aside I hate it when the players celebrate getting a pen before scoring it.
-
I'm feeling a bit pissed off that I haven't got 660 quid now.
-
The relief. Oh, the relief. I'm betting that the loud-mouth stripey that gets the same bus as me in the morning gives me a wide birth tomorrow. Ironically, but understandably, on the only morning that I want to bump into him.
-
If Carlsberg did derby day wins........
-
Incidentally, I don't think we really played that much better than we did against Newcastle. We just had a bit more luck today.
Not much more, as we should have been 3-0 up by half time, just more luck than "none at all".
-
Fucking delighted, such a relief! Don't think we deserved it. A draw would have been about right, thought we'd blown it again, but it doesn't matter how we got the win, just that we got it. Now we need a few more of those. Not convinced by Benteke, but lets hope he pulls his finger out now.
-

I'll be quitting while I'm ahead, definitely. First Villa bet that's come off for me since getting 3-1 and Benteke scoring at the Emirates last season.
Hopefully my lottery numbers come up tonight too.

Never mind all that, I'm chuffed to bits for you, Tom!
-
Great win, and deserved too. We pressed them first half and kept a high work rate throughout the game I thought. Great penalty from the big man at the end, well done Tim let's keep up the hard work this is just the start there is plenty more to do yet.
-
Incidentally, I don't think we really played that much better than we did against Newcastle. We just had a bit more luck today.
Not much more, as we should have been 3-0 up by half time, just more luck than "none at all".
It was justice getting a penalty at the end. Foster was all over the place today, and we should have had one earlier.
-
After the first goal went in, I was ready to apologise to the neighbours for the noise.
After the second, I'll need to door-to-door the entire bloody street.
-
Pulis's reaction was a treat as well.
The commentators response to that shot of him at the end was fantastic.
"Justice for football, when you hire Pulis you know what you get and isn't very pretty"
-
Amazing.
-
Great that Hull and Sunderland drew too, effectively keeping each other well in the dog fight.
-
Could be a real momentum changer for us, luck didnt go for up at Newcastle where we deserved a point. Foster handed us the victory tonight, have never rated him but that was a whole new level of goalkeeping. Can see Pulis going James Beattie on him in the dressing room.
Great first half but we struggled to keep up the pressing in the second half. We didnt help by giving them set pieces through daft fouls by the likes of Okore and Hutton. It was the only way they were going to score tonight and they duly obliged.
Credit the manager for sending out a clearly up for it side tonight, granted that should be the bare minimum but not for us over the last few seasons. Grealish took his time to get into the game but showed some lovely touches when he came in. The other two Bacuna and Weimann didnt offer anything. Hutton, probably our best tonight. Committed in defence and attack, daft/thuggish yellow not withstanding. Gabby was excellent in first half, Delph had a fine second. Credit Lowton too out of position but gave it a fair old go. I do want our keeper changed though, Guzan was rubbish for their goal and got lucky with another set piece where he came out and got nowhere near the ball.
Guzan 5, Hutton 8, Okore 5, Clark 7, Lowton 7, Cleverley 6, Westwood 6, Delph 7, Nzogbia 6, Gabby 7, Benteke 6: Grealish 7, Bacuna 5, Weimann 5
-
YEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!! The rest, later
-
Massive result and I think we deserved it in the end. Hope that win kicks us off. Amazing what it can do for confidence.

That's a nice holiday away my friend. Admittedly when I saw your prediction earlier I thought to myself what a waste of money hahaha, I feel foolish now 8)
-
Thank fuck for that. Feeling very happy right now.
-
If ever I was going to use OMG in my language it's now.
Fucking OMG
Ha! You might have heard me from Dawlish Ian! How cool is The Beast? He'll be on a roll now!
I wondered what the racket was, I thought the sea wall had gave way again!
Get in, it's a great feeling isn't it!? Not just winning but a late winner against that lot.
I hope they enjoy their new brand of football. I'm glad we never went after Pullis.
-
That goal could realy change everything for us this season.
-
Fucking delighted, such a relief! Don't think we deserved it. A draw would have been about right, thought we'd blown it again, but it doesn't matter how we got the win, just that we got it. Now we need a few more of those. Not convinced by Benteke, but lets hope he pulls his finger out now.
16 shots vs 3.
58% possession.
Well deserved win IMHO. Probably the only luck we had was Hutton not getting red carded.
-
Massive result and I think we deserved it in the end. Hope that win kicks us off. Amazing what it can do for confidence.
No doubt we deserved it. They couldn't have complained if we'd been out of sight by half time.
Other than the goal did they have another clear shot on goal?
-
When was the last time we scored two and won in the league? A goal in the last 15 minutes too. That was massive for us today.
Happy and relieved.
-

If Lily says we deserved it, we must have.
-
As an aside I hate it when the players celebrate getting a pen before scoring it.
Me too. And watching on Sky, Charlie Nicholas's reaction to seeing the penalty (and the silence from his monitor) made me think the penalty had been missed.
-
BT Sport now. Stan showing real class and making Savage look the twat he is.
Well played Stan.
-
Pulis's reaction was a treat as well.
The commentators response to that shot of him at the end was fantastic.
"Justice for football, when you hire Pulis you know what you get and isn't very pretty"
Ouch!
-

If Benteke had missed, I'd have heard Nicholas cheering from here.
-
BT Sport going to town on Hutton, he'll be getting a ban I suspect
-

Sure, but most of that good play came in the first half, and it seemed like we had blown it. West Brom looked the most likely to win it in the second half. But I'm not complaining of course!

58% possession.
Well deserved win IMHO. Probably the only luck we had was Hutton not getting red carded.
-
When was the last time we scored two and won in the league? A goal in the last 15 minutes too. That was massive for us today.
Happy and relieved.
The last time that we won in the league (Leicester at home)
-
Deserved and what a way to do it, still a long way to go but that is a huge result for us.
-
That goal could realy change everything for us this season.
Absolutely. Getting the 3 points we deserved, with almost the last kick of the game. We final got something go our way and it could be the turn of the tide.
-
Hey, I thought I started the post match thread. I would like credit for the post match celebrations because I do like celebrating.
-
Easy! ;D
-
Never in doubt, fuck you stripey bastards and your tramp manager.
-
We fought against a rather whimsical ref, our own self-doubt and the goddess Fortuna. And we won.
Well done.
Going forward was better, but Christ sort out our set-pieces and passing.
-
BT Sport going to town on Hutton, he'll be getting a ban I suspect
Ref booked him which can't be overturned by the FA to a red but now he has reached ten yellows he's got a two match ban.
-
Hutton's banned for two games, it was stupid.
-
5live were full of praise for Grealish tonight. I wonder if he will throw him in on Saturday.
-
Hutton's banned for two games, it was stupid.
Depends if the ref says he saw it or not.
-
Well, I'd forgotten how good that could feel.
-
Villa won. In the last minute. Having deserved to win. Unexpectedly. Build on it. Strive. Never face relegation again. Simple game. Lambert lost his marbles under weird pressure.
-
he got caught up in the passion of it all. He'll play at the weekend and hopefully one of regular left full backs can step in for the league games. Or you play Bacuna at RB and keep Lowton on the left.
-
Pulis's reaction was a treat as well.
The commentators response to that shot of him at the end was fantastic.
"Justice for football, when you hire Pulis you know what you get and isn't very pretty"
Ouch!
Ha ha!!
-
5live were full of praise for Grealish tonight. I wonder if he will throw him in on Saturday.
Might as well. Again don't know if I would give him the whole game, but would like to see him play some part. Also depends who is fit.
-
Amazing to think that when we won our last league game, I was busy putting up the Christmas tree. We're the fucking Villa FFS, that can't be allowed to happen again, ever.
Was too nervous to listen tonight, so ignored the score until 90+1 minutes. Listening to the penalty build-up must have aged me by about 20 years.
-
Pulis's reaction was a treat as well.
The commentators response to that shot of him at the end was fantastic.
"Justice for football, when you hire Pulis you know what you get and isn't very pretty"
Ouch!
Might have to change my signature line :)
-
UP THE FUCKING VILE
-
Hutton's banned for two games, it was stupid.
It did look like a straight red to be fair but we deserve to get a break with all the shit luck we've had lately.
-
Still got a full on erection.
I'm very happy.
-
Grealish did very well.
-
Fair play to the manager for the team selection, Nzogbia payed well until he ran out of steam, Gabby did his normal in derbies and we could have been 3 or 4 up.
-
Could someone techy put up the goals please? I won't get to sleep till I see them (well 2 of them)
-
Who could actually face watching the penalty? I had to walk away.
-
Hutton's banned for two games, it was stupid.
It did look like a straight red to be fair but we deserve to get a break with all the shit luck we've had lately.
Yes that follow through was Mark Hughes like Snakey
-
I forgot to add...
It's great to see an animated bench throughout the game. All of them, not just the manager.
-
Who could actually face watching the penalty? I had to walk away.
I felt like that but watched. Hate that run up though. I'm glad we scored, but it's not a great way to take a pen.
-

Depends if the ref says he saw it or not.
Not really
-
We fought against a rather whimsical ref, our own self-doubt and the goddess Fortuna. And we won.

A good summary
-
Grealish did very well.
He looked for the ball when not in possession and is a good enough player to pick a colleague out when in possession. Can we see more of him please? Lowton had a good game too, I thought.
-
Could someone techy put up the goals please? I won't get to sleep till I see them (well 2 of them)
Very important win, Gabby the derby destroyer does it again :)

A win in March is more than O'Pubey ever managed.
-
UP THE FUCKING VILE
Eh?
-
Credit Sherwood. The side was a strange one, nzogbia needs to be looked at by a new manager I guess, probably for the last time I suspect. Putting Grealish one was brave, so yeah, credit the man for being positive and winning.
-
5 live's a good listen at the moment for a change!
-
Grealish did very well.
He looked for the ball when not in possession and is a good enough player to pick a colleague out when in possession. Can we see more of him please? Lowton had a good game too, I thought.
That desire he showed when he chased down Dawson and then winning a freekick was great. He's got quality but it's hard work and determination like that which will really help him keep a place in the squad, and perhaps earn a start. Very composed on the ball.
-
Mr Pulis very complimentary about us there Fair play
-
he got caught up in the passion of it all. He'll play at the weekend and hopefully one of regular left full backs can step in for the league games. Or you play Bacuna at RB and keep Lowton on the left.
He'll be banned for the cup game.

Yep, didn't bite when asked about Huttons challenge. Thought he was very dignified.
-
Wow. Just, WOW. Thank you Villa. I've upset most of my neighbours with my outburst at the end, but it was well worth it.
-
I'm horny. Horny, horny, horny. I'm horny. I'm horny, horny, horny tonight.
-
Bloody Jason Cundy on talkshite saying we were lucky and Albion deserved win. Moron
-
Fair play to pullis in his comments. Didn't make any excuses. Could have really moaned about Hutton challenge as certain red
-
That win was for you, Tony.
RIP.
-
Mr Pulis very complimentary about us there Fair play
What did he say?
-
Important three points. Should hopefully be a bit more confidence about us. And Sherwood shows more passion in 90 mins than Lambert did over a full season. We have a chance now...and plus we beat Smethwick. frank Skinner and Adrian Chile's your boys took one hell of a beating. Gardner, what's the score?
-
Oh and I was pleased BBC Radio 5Live actually took their collective heads out of North West Conurbation and Greater London and covered this great fixture in the manner befitting. The Greater Birmingham Derby.
-
Wow, that was absolutely HUGE! A last ditch winner against bitter rivals, giving a new manager their first win after a horrific run, out of the bottom three, it doesn't get much more important than that.
Special mentions-
Cleverley - I have criticised him before but I thought he was much better today
Lowton - I thought he did brilliantly to win the penalty and in the rest of the game was excellent too.
Benteke - The ice man, monumental pressure and he just slots the pen home with ease.
Gabby - He has been terrible but at least he has earned his salary this week.
Sherwood - We look more likely to score now and that is half the battle.
Honourable mention - Ben Foster. Thanks Ben.
-

Thanks enjoyed that! Nice to see us go more direct and clinical. Liked Gabby's goal almost like rolling back the years.

Yet again we've saved Villa from Relgation.
All the years I've supported Albion, we've always been a charity for poor teams. Not won for a while? Strikers can't score? Don't worry, Albion will gift you a game!!
Might of been a different result if that thug Hutton had been sent off!
The Vile are only five points adrift of us now. They'll have the wind in their sails on Saturday and on tonight's display the will knock us out of the cup too.
all the fickle vile fans will be out & about in their shirts tomorrow! shocking!!
Fucking love it. UP THE VILLA
-
Stick that up your bollocks!

Bloody miserable bunch. It's only the second defeat they've had under Pulis.
Ha ha. Love it.

It could have been all yours, Tone. Could have been all yours.
Thank McGrath it isn't, I'd rather have O'Leary back than sit through your turgid anti-football shit for five minutes.
-
Thank goodness pulis took a leaf out of lamberts book and settled for the draw. Roll on saturday..!
-
They sound like us when we play a crap team.
To be honest, a point would have been robbery. They can't complain. And saying we're only five points behind? Jesus, that's a massive gap. Get some perspective, FFS.
-
Supertom didyou win the bet Gabby to score first and win 2-1 or was that someone else?

Even better beating them with a last-minute penalty. Just a shame that it was a legitimate pen, not some spawny decision that they'd have been able to bleat about for 30-odd years.
-
Fantastic result and now hope has returned. I missed the penalty, that will teach me to leave on 90 minutes, I thought only the opposition are allowed to score in injury time?
-
Feel like we've excised a large festering zit whilst enjoying an overdue log.
-
Just got in so haven't read the thread.
But, I wanted to say before anything else, Clark, Hutton, Cleverley.......mag-fucking-nificent!!

Who was our number 11? Reminded of Agbonlahor who used to play for us a while back 😉
-
Sherwood made me laugh on BT sport just now regarding hutton
-
Foster really is a dodgy keeper isn't he. Spilling shots and bringing players down. He got away with the first one but not the second.
-
I think I've given myself stitch for the first time in 25 years or more. I honestly can't remember ever seeing us win with a last minute penalty. Any suggestions as to when this might have last taken place? If ever?
-

Wondering that myself. Looked like him and all.

You can also tell Savage is getting on his tits.

I did. I've just finished running the streets naked in celebration.

I've hurt my back too! Probably lost some years off my life. I'll take plenty more of those over the next 2 months.
-
He's more refreshing than Lambert
Passion

I'm slightly happy. And not exactly stone cold sober.

Just watched the gaffer on BT he definitely reminds me of J Gregory.
-
just had a read of their forum linked on here - what a bitter bunch. Why do they call VP Seal Park?

I think I've given myself stitch for the first time in 25 years or more. I honestly can't remember ever seeing us win with a last minute penalty. Any suggestions as to when this might have last taken place? If ever?
I've supported Villa for 40 years and I can't remember it happening
Best ending since Youngs goal at Everton back in 2009 or whenever. I was stoically convincing myself that a point was better than nothing and we could build on that. Lets hope results go our way to orrow

Don't know but I would say it will go down in Villa Park history alongside Phil Kings against Inter Milan.

I'm really looking forward to the Sunderland game. They're there for the taking.
QPR have two games in hand but will likely lose both.

I have no idea. If asked to guess I would suggest that it is a reference to our 19th minute applause for Stan. Circus Clapping Seals.

Bloody miserable bunch. It's only the second defeat they've had under Pulis.
Ha ha. Love it.
There is only one dignified response to that

Now fuck off back to Smethwick you nice little club!

That was one of the worst performances I have seen, he was abysmal. Gobby twat.

just had a read of their forum linked on here - what a bitter bunch. Why do they call VP Seal Park?
Do you not know? They call us seals, from the "Villa!" *clap clap clap* chant.

Bloody Jason Cundy on talkshite saying we were lucky and Albion deserved win. Moron
He doesn't like Tim does he?

just had a read of their forum linked on here - what a bitter bunch. Why do they call VP Seal Park?
They have done for ages. I think it might go back to when the days of the old Trinity Road when they used to stamp their feet in tempo with the Holte to "Villa" - clap-clap-clap - "Villa" - clap-clap-clap
The seals being the clapping. How very droll.
Just seen that Risso beat me to it.
-
Yes!!
Should have been out of sight by half time.
I thought Albion were pretty toss. They got the nowt they deserved, they never made the slightest attempt to try and win the game, typical horrible Pulis team.
-
goodness,
the penalty, er before the foul, there was a double hand ball in the area which the referee was looking straight at and he wasnt going to give that so no wonder the stripy thought he would get away with taking the villa player down. all in all i thought the ref was poor and kept the stripies in it,
Im warming to cleverley looking the part, gabby turned up Delph aided by OUR TOM RAN THE GAME.

Shots - 16!

Pride of the Midlands, having a party because they are jammily drawing with the team second from bottom of the league. Wankers.

OH YES WELL DONE SUPERTOM GREAT PREDICTION
Where we drinking. 8)

Looking forward to Mr W's report in the morning, because he tends to appreciate a win over them for some reason ;)

Anybody know why highlights aren't on Football special on Sky?
-
I thought Ben Foster played like a Villa fan, did his best to give away two pens and fumble one over the line, hoping the new goal line technology would give it.
-
Had forgotten what performances like that were
Had forgotten what a manager with passion on the touch line was like
Had forgotten how noisy villa fans can be
Had forgotten how entertaining winning threads like this were
Well done Tim, players and fans alike

I was in a breakfast meeting with about 25 others, all the while I was following the H&V match thread on my mobile. The penalty made my knee hit the underside of the table, white table cloth, Coffee stains everywhere. I just smiled and apologised.
Fucking great!

When the Premier League finally goes down the franchising route like the NFL, that can be their rebranded name.
West Bromwich Wankers.
Has a certain familiarity about it already don't you think?

I've been tonight. I felt physically sick for long periods. I watched the last two minutes watching the TV on the concourse. It was surreal I could hear pandemonium upstairs before it had happened on the TV. I ended up picking up one of the pasty servers when it went in. I then got a hold of myself. Rarely is there a better feeling than beating them vile bastards in the fourth minute of injury time.
-
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.
-
Hopefully Saturday will sell out now and we can get to Wembley!
-
I am not sure how we will fare under sherwood but anyone still want Pulis and his awful brand of anti football?
I really could not watch that every week
-
Still buzzing - great atmosphere in the Holte. I'd forgotten how this felt. Fuck the Albion!
-
Just home from game. Wow.
I won't be able to sleep for a while
-
For those claiming this result was lucky, by setting out our intentions in this game, we created our own luck.
So, having said that, thank you Agent Foster...
-
Supertom didyou win the bet Gabby to score first and win 2-1 or was that someone else?
I did. I've just finished running the streets naked in celebration.
I'm glad you don't live next door to me. I've done the exact same even though my less than 3 goals bet died.
-
What a time and opponents to get our first pen since only god knows when!
-
We deserved the win, no doubt. We were completely on top in the first half and should have been out of sight.
I don't think any team could keep up that pace and intensity for 90 minutes though, and we flagged in the second half. When they equalised I thought we might crumple, but we rallied strongly at the end.
Quite funny to witness Brad's reaction to the penalty, he had to turn his back and went by the reaction of The Holte.
We have given ourselves a real chance of staying up now.

having watched the game I still cannot understand why any villa fan would want Pullis as our manager
'he would keep us up' true but what then another 3 years of Pullis football, they were dire tonight, and from what you see WBA fans saying, all there away games are played in much the same manner, but normaly they get a tad more luck,
I personaly hate his type of football, I genuinely despise it, and would hate it if we ever got him in
I actually think he is a decent guy apart from the crap football he brings to every club he goes to
anyway, tonight was great, gives us some hope, I have said we are more likely to go down but we are not doomed yet, and after tonight we can gain a bit of confidence and you never know

Mr Pulis very complimentary about us there Fair play
What did he say?
He said what a great club and stadium
He said 'playing at a good little ground every couple of weeks is okay however playing here at this massive stadium of this massive club is a rare treat.'
-
I can hold my head high in our Tipton office tomorrow.
-
What a time and opponents to get our first pen since only god knows when!
Have we had one since we beat them with one at the Holte last year?
-
Lescott will have nightmares about Gabby tonight. He gave him a torrid time all game. Get him running at people and that's what happens. He looked a different player today.
-
Just back in from the game - wow - best feeling since the Sunderland 6-1 game. The effort that has been sadly lacking so often was there tonight and Gabby had one of his good games. We could have had the game sewn up by half-time and then went off the boil a bit in the second half, but now is not the time for gripes. I genuinely can't think of a better way to beat them than a last gasp penalty.
As for Albion I thought they were dire. They've got no real pace (even the two up front are not that quick) and only ever really threatened off set pieces. We just need to cut out the stupid free kicks and corners on Saturday and I'm confident of beating them again. This time next year or even before then, the WM phone-ins will be jammed with bitters calling for Pulis to go because "Olbyun doe play like that Franksy".
-
Anybody know why highlights aren't on Football special on Sky?
It seems odd that it should be so, but I think it's because the game was earlier shown live on BT.
-

BT said it was our first this season
First since Jan 2014, in fact.

Agreed.
It almost, but not quite, makes the suffering worthwhile when you win in that manner tonight against your bitter rivals.
Just turned 50 and my 19 year old son was embarrassed by my need to jump on the back of the seat in front of me when we scored. He was busy trying to ensure I didn't fall over and injure myself. I said dont worry about me just bloody celebrate
To the guy sitting next to me this evening who I had never previously met, i apologise for the man hug I gave you when the pen went in. Im sure you will understand and you seemed excited yourself.
Great evening and in my top 10 of exciting and important games I've seen in the last 44 years

The bitter birds were well tetchy coming out of the ground on Witton Lane. Grumbling, glowering, spitting on the road, cursing in their quaint medieval dialect. It was actually rather beautiful. I hope they returned to their hovels safely and are now enjoying their pigeon food.

Thank you thank you thank you. It's a lovely morning out here. With no other means available followed the match on here. Threw the iPad away at 90 mins and start of injury time and went to sleep. Just woke up to this. Yes fuck em as we say!

We deserved to win tonight. No question
Should have been three up at half time
Great first half performance
Thought Tc and Charlie did ok first half. Playing Charlie in the hole might just work when he is more match fit
Lowton looked accomplished and has so much more going forward than our other LB's
Im not Delphs biggest fan but he played well tonight
Well done to Gabby and lovely to score in front of those fans who give you so much abuse
Jack looked good tonight and he has the confidence to demand the ball.
Love Hutton for his effort and takes no shit off anyone. He is more of an attacking threat these days
Dead balls were typically rubbish again tonight. We need to improve as they are so important when you don't create many chances.
Finally to TS. He got the tactics spot on tonight and also the subs. Love his passion and commitment and as he said afterward, whatever happens we will fight to the end.

What was the beef with the Albion fan being escorted out of the ground at half time? Probably wasn't the wisest decision to get rid of him by walking him along the North stand lower!

It was in the eyes of every fan leaving the Upper Holte this evening.
Not saying there were tears, just sheer bloody joy, relief and the belief flooding back.

What did that Albion fan do to get thrown out at half-time? I was in the Holte, but I saw the stewards lead him away in front of the North Stand.
-
I'd almost forgotten what it was like to see smiling faces spilling out of villa park and singing fans outside the ground.
We need to build on this now.
Oh and isn't it nice to see a manger full of infectious passion.

Strange one that , they usually march them up between R block & Q block. The Steward got a standing ovation on his way back !

Every time an away fan gets thrown out they get taken through the north stand. Daft decision. Apparently he was spitting as stewards as he was being marched thats why he was getting such a hard time.

My laptop, halfway through a post on here with 10 to go gave up the ghost, so I have just watched the whole after match stuff on BT sport, who seem to put a decent after game thing on these days if you win!
I thought the team selection was a bit nuts, but fair play to Sherwood, they came through for him tonight. Gabby was everything we moan about him not being for 60 minutes, I would have got Sinclair on for him and played him right up with Benteke but it didn't matter. NZogbia was good first half at finding space between the lines, and Lescott could not cope with Gabby at all. Another night we go in 3 nil up and cruise through that second half.
Sherwood afterwards interestingly said that since he got here a lot of people have told him Gabby is finished, that he has lost this, or can't do that but in training he has been and Sherwood thinks he and Benteke are the best front 2 outside the top 6, just needs to get them believing.
I thought Lowton was superb tonight at left back, couple of great crosses on his right too. We are a better team going forward with him in the side, because he is a genuinely good footballer.
Okore scared the shit out of me all night, but I thought Clarke was a monster second half especially. He is fast becoming our number 1 centre half, which is amazing really.
If Tim can get the intensity of that first 35-40 minutes out of them every home game till the end of the season we will stay up. The other interesting thing he said afterwards was that to play the way he wants to he doesn't think they are fit enough yet, and it is something he is working on.
-
back home and oh yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss :)
-
Don't think we deserved it.
I thought we 100% deserved it and we should have been out of sight by half time.

I was amazed at how Stoke like they are already. They dropped to the floor when a Villa player was within a yard, tackled with their studs up all night and relied completely on set plays.
-
We deserved to win and Pulis the Negative got exactly what he deserved as well. I had to turn my back on the penalty though.

Never in doubt, fuck you stripey bastards and your tramp manager.
It seriously was justice for football. Stoke were bad enough with chavman in charge but having it in charge of the Baggies, proper fuckin shocker.

I have a lot of respect for Pulis but he is so limited away from home beyond belief.
They were probably the poorest visiting team I've seen here all season. Apart from the 10 minute spell with the goal they offered nothing going forward.
Did they even make a sub, you'd think at 1-1 when we were deflated he'd have put on Sessgenon for Brown Ideye who was hopeless.

What a relief, well deserved win, even if it turned out to be a tad lucky. Still a long way to go, but this could be a pivotal game. First half was everything that's been missing for a couple of years.
Couldn't really fault anyone, but special mention to Gabby, Lowton, Delph & Cleverley. When Gabby plays well, so does the team.
Saturday is a bonus game, less pressure on the result but a win would boost confidence further. But it would still be nice to beat the bastards.

We deserved to win and Pulis the Negative got exactly what he deserved as well. I had to turn my bavk on the penalty though.
On about 80 mins one of our ball boys rolled the ball to foster to take a goal kick and he kicked it 15 yards back in the direction it had come from to waste about 30 seconds . Then the ball boy ran, got the ball and rolled it into the 6 yard box to ensure foster would take the kick. Sadly he over ran the throw a bit and it rolled out beyond the penalty spot to the 18 yard line. Foster crawled over to get it rolled it back and finally took the kick. I reckon all in all 90 seconds lost.
If that's Pulis brand then that can fuck right off.

Clark was my man of the match tonight and has been our player of the season for me, he's become the player that there were glimpses of in the past.
He is the new Concrete

My laptop, halfway through a post on here with 10 to go gave up the ghost, so I have just watched the whole after match stuff on BT sport, who seem to put a decent after game thing on these days if you win!

But his concrete has set properly.
The other one was more plaster of Paris.

When the ref gave that penalty I looked around and saw every human emotion imaginable etched on people's faces. Every single one. Sometimes in life there are moments that just cannot be described and that was one I'll never forget.
Fair play to you Des you deserved that after all the shite you've endured this season.

Not very needed imho, but I imagine Gardner did it to him in the past or something.

Definitely. He's barely put a foot wrong all season and has finally lived up to the potential of becoming the next Cahill. We expected a lot when he was just coming through under O Neill. Finally the consistency is here and more importantly he's playing like an experienced defender. He doesn't appear to need a babysitter now.
Okore makes mistakes still, but in fairness to him he's still in his first full season at this level, and he's got great attributes. His pace is a blessing in getting back, as he showed with one great interception. I think Okore will be rock solid by next season. He just needs to improve his decision making and iron out the errors.

Ciaran has become a very good centre back.
He must have something special to come back so well.
-
Clark MOTM for as well, just ahead of Hutton
-
It bodes well that Baker has matured well too this season.
Worrying that with Hutton out for 2 games, we are pretty low on defenders. I wonder if Kinsella will get the nod at the weekend with Lowton going over to right back.
-
We should have had a first half penalty too. Having said that Hutton should have been sent off. He had two 'Glasgow nibbles' at him. Sherwood was priceless after the match. Not a sending off apparently. "It was a shame the lad couldn't get out of the way". I laughed out loud. I doubt any Albion fans did. I'm off to an Albion forum soon to see how they are taking losing their cup final. My son's favourite bit was the Albion fan being marched out in front of him in the North stand.

Wonder if Cissokho might make it back for the cup game. If not I'd get Kinsella on the bench and play Bacuna at right back. We should continue how we did today and attack them.
-
Is Hutton banned now? There is talk about the challenge on berahomo being reviewed.
-
Banned for two games, due to the booking, but no retrospective action because the ref saw it. Unless the rules change for him this week.
-
Is Hutton banned now? There is talk about the challenge on berahomo being reviewed.
I hope it is not reviewed. He should have seen red. If that had been a west brom player doing it to one of ours I would have been livid.
-
That was absolute bonkers! North stand lower was just chaos at the end. That is why we go to the football, for moments like that.
-
What a relief, well deserved win, even if it turned out to be a tad lucky.
How on earth is it lucky? A penalty is all in the word "penalty".

Not just me...we all have, every one of us. That's what made it special. I only hope that we look back on it as the moment it all turned right for us.

Ciaran Clark, take a bow. An excellent performance.

Yeah those last few minutes were amazing. Up, down, up, down , terror, glory! :)

While the ref was getting everything set for the pen Gardner was in Benteke's face mouthing off. I didn't see it because like everyone else nearby I lost control of my body for 30 seconds as soon as the ball crossed the line.
A last minute winner is always great, a last minute winner in front of the Holte is even better, a last minute winner against that lot is almost perfect.
It was like all the excitement that has leaked from Villa Park over the past couple of years was suddenly back and, just when we were all beginning to doubt our sanity in spending so much time and emotion on it all, reminded us all just why we do it.
-
What a great performance especially the first half. And just as I had gave up hope we won the penalty, what a well taken penalty it was too,the scenes on the holte end were amazing, what football is all about. Lets kick on from here. UP THE VILLA!!!!!!!

Gardner really is a horrible little man isn't he?
-
Gardner was in Benteke's face just before the penalty and Delph told him to do one then. Good on him for rubbing it in after the little cock bounced around the touchline when they equalised like the little chav arse wipe he is
-
Gardner should be glad someone noticed him doing something, anything. The bloke is stealing a living as a pro footballer, he's fucking shit.
-
Big thread.. don't care.
Whatever has been said....don't care.
Beat The Albion....care!
3 points....OMG it means everything..everything!
Yes, I'm really, really pissed! Roll on Saturday!

What a relief, well deserved win, even if it turned out to be a tad lucky.
How on earth is it lucky? A penalty is all in the word "penalty".
Lucky, because we didn't look like scoring, their keeper drops a bollock to help us out & it was the 94th minute. As I said, it was well deserved, but in the end it was still lucky & we were due some.
-
Gardner really is a horrible little man isn't he?
someone from this parish posted a link about Gardner saying he didn't want to see Villa relegated.I don't do twitter/facebook, but I have seen enough posts/links (on here) from that little scrote to confirm in my opinion he is an obsessed sad little bluenose. And yes horrible and pig ugly as well-F-ck him
-
Gardner's a ghastly little goat's pizzle. Typical nose, consumed by bitterness and hatred.

I made it onto TV which is always a bonus ;) Great Birthday present from the Villa! I was genuinely in tears after the Penalty went in - what a result! Onwards to Wembley!

Foster fucking up was a result of our positive approach to the game.

The crowd was quite shocking though I thought. Although it did feel more like 35k than 31k.

Over the 90 mins we were not lucky to win. We deserved it based on the first half performance alone.
-

Whenever he comes close to winding me up I just remind myself that an hour after wildly celebrating the goal that he thought would keep them up at WHL in front of his fellow noses he was scribbling out the first draft of his transfer request on the coach home.

Why is it any luckier in the 94th minute than in the 9th or the 4th minute? Luck was them not being four down at half time.
-

Crowd were low in numbers but absolutely superb in noise. A neutral mate of mine thanked me for the fact that we managed to drown out Michael Owen's punditry.

More gems from that Bitters' Forum:
They are a massive club though at least our great little club had a go.
I am bloody fuming >:( and feel sorry for the fans that went.
Been absolutely inconsolable tonight. Missus is worried. I'm fuming.
I hope Tony is in the shower tw@tting every last one of them.
tbf
ive read what you picked from there site, but theres more of there fans saying we were the better team and that basically they got what they deserved, sorry but I think Albion fans on there own site are in the main quite balanced.
There also seem to be quite a few of them who have sussed out Pulis and don't seem to happy with the playing for a draw, gamesmanship and failure to pass the ball about very much.
I was amazed at how Stoke like they are already. They dropped to the floor when a Villa player was within a yard, tackled with their studs up all night and relied completely on set plays.
Yep and noticed that they also blocked players making off the ball runs on numerous occasions as well. Their lack of a long throw in means they haven't quite morphed into Stoke just yet.

That's like an optical illusion. Small people in the foreground Big people in the distance.
Anyway, I enjoyed that. A lot.
Ive criticised the Sherwood appointment but that was far more like what we need tonight. (Although Albion were appalling.) It's far better being pleasantly surprised by someone you don't rate than disappointed by someone you do. I thought he came across well in the BT post match thing too.
Not ready to eat just now, but much more of this and I might need to get some humble pie in the oven.
-
The most satisfying feeling for me is we thoroughly deserved what we got tonight.

Back home about hour ago but have enjoyed reading every post on this thread...you've all said it for me so I'll just add what a fu**ing brilliant feeling it is to win a game...to win it against West Bromwich Barcelona...to win with our only penalty of the season so far...to win it in the 94th minute (when we've conceded so many times late on)...and to enjoy the whole of Villa park singing at the end. It doesn't happen very often but it feels fu**ing wonderful!
(Ciaran Clark won everything in the air - EVERYTHING! He seems to have become an extremely mature, reliable CB almost overnight)

Just got back north. Dropped my Albion supporting little brother off. Most satisfying journey of the season.
Fuck the Albion! Fuck the Albion!
-
Was Foster not also the keeper in goal for Small Heath when we won with the late penalty decision that Stephen Carr accepted so graciously?
-
Apart from Lescott they are pretty ordinary, Berahino, goal aside, seemed nearly as nonplussed about them as most Villa fans do.

It was like a stampede back to the seats from the concourse of the Lower Holte when the penalty was given.
And it's moments like that why we keep going to games.

Fair enough. I will settle for us winning with a late penalty again at the weekend so I can post 'Wasn't Foster in goal when we won with a late penalty a few days ago'? If I could write the script a handball decision against Craig Gardner when it clearly hasn't hit his hand would be my preference.
-
When did we last win a derby via an injury time goal? 81 ? Think that was about 89 mins
-
Amazing how quickly West Brazil have become Stoke. Shit football, well organised, time wasting, constant hoofs, dirty and snide, reliant on set pieces.

I was at that game as well. Had to look at up to be sure. We were lucky against the blose back then
-
I can't judge too much as I was down there when the penalty was given. I never knew the screens were so far behind the game. In my defence I left on about 92 mins as I was bostin for a slash. And we never score late goals anyway so I decided to watch the last min on the screens.

I never leave early unless we are a couple of goals down with about five minutes to go. As I was unable to take my son he went with my wife. They left a minute or two before the goal. I was disappointed for him after all the rubbish he has had to watch this season. She wasn't impressed when I sarcastically asked her when she was taking him to half a match again. I think I might be in the dog house tomorrow.
-
Just got in at 1.15. It makes the long trip so easy when you win in the last minute, especially against the Albion!!!!!!. I saw many Villa fans at the services on the way home and the smiles said it all.Bring on Saturday. UTV
-
On their forum they are taking the penalty incident well and not being too hard on Foster.
"I can't think of a bigger feck up in all of my life watching sports."
Made me laugh.
-
I seen a good Villa team for 45 mins tonight. I seen a player called Gabriel Agbonlahore who looked great, really great. I want to see more of the same from now on and we'll be safe, easily safe.
-
I never leave early.
It was going through my mind that if they scored a second I was gonna go nuts and embarrass myself/friends so I'd just walk out.
My mate Winston couldn't watch the penalty and sort of buried his head in the wall behind us...relied on the roar of the Villa faithful.
A magic moment at Villa Park!

More balanced reaction to Foster on their forum. "The more I think about it and it's potentially bigger impact to us fans and helping Vile the more it has to be one of the worst single goalkeeping performances ever in a goalkeeping shirt"!
Priceless. I wonder what was the worst single goalkeeping performance ever not in a goalkeeping shirt?

Apparently we are a "bunch of dirty bstds who roll around when touched". And they lost because "the pain killers weren't working" on their front two!
We also have an "arrogant poxy cockney manager".
Actually that is nicer than anything they say about their own manager.
-
Can anyone enlighten me on all of these previous occasions they have apparently single handedly rescued us from relegation that they keep going on about?
-
Can anyone enlighten me on all of these previous occasions they have apparently single handedly rescued us from relegation that they keep going on about?
Probably throwing away two goal leads twice last season.
It's also worth remembering, it's over 30 years since they beat us in a game that finished 11 v 11.
-
For a big team, they don't half go to ground easily don't they? Pulls effect in full force already.
Also, making a substitution in ET to wind the clock down. Thanks for that Pulis you cock - gave us the extra 30,seconds to win the penalty. Nice.
Great first half from us. Second half - was like a balloon with the air being let out. I just couldn't see us scoring.
-
I always thought we might score because you could see the desire was there.
-
I always thought we might score because you could see the desire was there.
I didnt. I was actually about to prepare my "why is it we never are able to mount a last minute surge?" post when ...errr.. we had our last minute surge :)

It's 2.25am. I've been back three hours and I'm still wide awake. Up In four and a Half hours for work.

Goals (http://www.lastminutegoals.org/aston-villa-vs-west-bromwich-albion-premier-league/)
Thanks. Gabby's first touch as usual was shit but second just superb.
-
Was following the match on my phone on the way to work but the battery died. What a very pleasant surprise when I checked in at the office!
-
I hopped on my bike to ride to work in the 85th minute. I waited 10 minutes until I was at the top of the biggest hill climb to get out my phone to read the rest of the match thread. At the moment my browser refreshed from the page of 'penalty/please' to the page of 'yesssss' tears struck. I blame the endorphins.
-
Only football can give you such highs and lows all in the space of a week or so.Last week against Stoke when cardbord Ron conceded that pen in stoppage time i felt so pissed off and low its not true.Tonight,to get a pen at roughly the same time and to score and win, made me feel so high, best feeling i've had for ages.
-
Was awake from about 4.05am so just as Gabby got the first. Tried to sleep but had to keep checking my phone every now and then. Went on twitter at 5.35am when I thought the game would have ended just as someone tweeted 'gooooooaall'. What an ending - very happy boy today. Same again on Saturday please.
-
According to the reporter on BBC Breakfast it was Chris EUBANK who scored the winning penalty!
-
Been at work since the match started at 6am this morning, nearly done for the day, and have it recorded.
I've already told Mrs Ozvilla I'll be otherwise engaged this evening.
-
When did we last win a derby via an injury time goal? 81 ? Think that was about 89 mins
Hitzlsperger was the one that came to mind but wasn't Gabby's winner at the Sty in MON's final season scored late on too?
-
Well, that was fucking marvellous wasn't it? That's the best we've played all season (maybe two seasons) by a mile. Every time they had the ball, we tried to win it back which was fantastic to see. Keep that up and we'll be fine.
-
For the first goal as the ball was rolled back to Guzan my son was moaning about it being a waste as he can't kick straight. Seconds later it was in the back of the net. I actually thought we mixed it up quite well last night, some of the time trying to build from the back, other times getting it forward early.

Still buzzing this morning. Got no stripeys at work so I can't sit & bask in smug silence which would be hell for them. I'm gonna enjoy discussing the game with fellow Villans though. Not much will get done this morning!
-
That was an ice cold penalty from Benteke.
I was sure he was going to miss.
Absolutely superb penalty, to take a penalty like that in the circumstaances in the game/season takes a huge amount of self confidence.
Quality will always prevail.
-
Happiness, happiness, the greatest gift that I possess. To use the catchphrase of the great Sid Field .'What a performance' . At long last our lot, every one of them, stood up to be counted. That was a thoroughly deserved victory. An exceptional performance from Agbonlahor who stood out like a beacon. The midfield all excelled, Cleverley in particular.
If I was Tony Pullis I would be more than a little worried about Saturday.
If I was Tim Sherwood I would feel proud of what I had achieved in the last few days.
They actually looked like a team!
-
Anyone notice Delph give it to Gardner when we scored the penalty?
-
First half superb. Pressed the ball and plenty of movement off it. Second half we looked really nervous and reverted to type after the goal. Sideways passing no driving forwarded, hard habit to get out of once it's been trained into you. Thought TS made brace substitutions and went for it.
-

Making Delph captain was a key factor. He's always the most vocal player anyway but, as captain, he also has the authority.
Delph and Clark* should be told that this is their team now.
(*Yes, I know that if a decent centre half comes in he'd be out of the team)

Why? Throughout the season, he's been the one player to consistently perform at an acceptable level.
I'd say that this year he's shown that he's a more than half decent centre half.
-
"Out of darkness cometh light" - Allelujah!!!
-
Did anyone notice Lesscot's reaction on their goal?
Stood in front on the Villa crowd nodding 'Yes' with a stupid mocking face!!
Supposed to be a Villa fan? W*nker
-
As someone born and bred in Great Barr but now living overseas, I wondered whether a result like and the manner of it would still matter as much - it does! We played with passion and commitment, which is something I have not witnessed for months and months. Let's ensure our safety now and finally get the pride back at VP.

Agree ViD, had a great game last night.
Was having a beer last night after the game and this chap was saying that Clark hadn't done that much last night. My brother said 'Well, he kept Ideye quiet'
'Didn't realise he was playing' this chap replied
'F*cking exactly'
-
Not so much had him in his pocket, more folded over with the bank notes and kept in his wallet in his pocket.
If Ideye's worth £10M i must be worth at least £100,000 :)
-
Yes i noticed Lescot's reaction after their goal. Pretty much the same as when he celebrated scoring for Everton against us. Not sure if it is true but i believe he and his brother were both Villa youngsters and while his brother was given a contract i believe he was not .Could be a reason why he celebrates against us.

Clark was my man of the match tonight and has been our player of the season for me, he's become the player that there were glimpses of in the past.
Agreed. I couldn't believe what I was reading on here when Vlaar got fit and posters were saying they were looking forward to his partnership with Okore. Not that I thought it was ever going to happen (barring injury).
-
I think centre backs generally take a few years to fulfil their potential. Clark showed it when he first came into the side but has had to gain experience and use the time to learn his trade. It is similar to Cahill who did the same at Bolton, a place where his mistakes were not magnified and replayed 100 times.
I would say it is now a question of who plays with him rather than he be the one under pressure.
-
Okore was ponderous at times, and is prone to losing concentration, but his last-ditch intervention when Berahino was bearing down on goal was sublime.
-
Got back late, didn't sleep much as kept waking up and wondering why I was grinning in the dark.
Jumped out of bed and now at work buzzing and waiting for supporters of other teams to come and bow in the presence of a mighty Villan
I was in the LHolte concourse on 92 minutes as well and the stampede up into L1 was the best fun I've had in ages - the steward was just swept along - the celebrations will live long in the memory
-
Well that was better.
Was pretty disappointed with the team selection but they were very good in the first half.
They looked a bit winded after the equalizer, but they certainly weren't getting overrun - we were lucky perhaps that we were facing a team that were unwilling or unable to really have a go at us. Clark I thought was excellent, Okore had a few shaky moments.
I was screaming at the tv for us to get it into the box a bit more in the last 20 minutes but I guess the beauty of watching a game when you such an emotional attachment is that sometimes you over analyse everything.
I thought Sherwood came across in overall very well on BT Sport afterwards. He said the players fitness wasn't up to the level that he wanted for his type of football, but that he wasn't criticizing what went before as they were obviously trying something different.
Also thought Petrov said that the has been speaking to Sherwood about getting more involved, but that nothing has been agreed yet?
-
Phil ('the Wurzel') King-esque nerves of steel from The Beast.
Great win, strange reversal of Stoke last week, still buzzing, can't wait for the cup game now...
-
One annoying part of the game last night - and all season - was the shocking delivery of dead balls by Westwood and then Bacuna at the end.
We know Foster is dodgy now - if he plays Saturday, we have to make him work from every set piece. Hit the target as a minimum.
-
Have heard that a lot of seats torn up in the away end last night. The rogues
-

Should leave them torn out as they will be using them next, they can sit on the floor

For anyone with access to BT Sport their premier league show on now is starting off with us. The joys of working from home.
-
Have to eat humble pie on Clark - he has had a very good season and think him and Okore are best long term option.

What is the view from those that were there, on Grealish?

I'm undecided.
I think he needs to be 'braver' and try to influence the game more.
That said - he's learning, and he's not really been given enough time on the pitch yet.
Wonder if he'll start him on Saturday? Can't see N'Zog getting anywhere near the first team again. I hope he doesn't go resting and put out a scratch team.

He looked good - may be better at this point as an impact player running at tired defenders.

He showed a side to his game that I haven't seen before, a bit of tenacity, both with and without the ball. The tackle on Morrison in the last few minutes was brilliant. I just think he needs a goal to really kick-start him. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him start on Saturday after that Cameo.
-

That's where Sherwood's gonna earn his corn, making them believe in themselves and what they're supposed to be doing when things aren't quite going their way. We've still a long road ahead of us, but at least it looks like we've set off in the right direction.
Onwards and upwards, Villa.
-
Grealish did well, had a shot on target , straight at foster unfortunately. The one time he lost possession he chased and won the ball back superbly.

yes he did well but not quite ready for a start I don't think. Last night was his best game yet, always showing and wanting the ball, making himself available but tended to be a bit casual at times and not so good when we don't have the ball. Should have stuck his foot through the ball when he had the volley in the box but went for the casual sidefoot instead

If ever there was a case for not leaving a game early, that was it. What are people thinking about leaving such an important game at 1-1? Those last moments will live with me for many a long year, and those that left missed out massively.
-
And you get to teach them basic morality as well.

Short of a family medical emergency there is no justification. Of the hundreds of games I have been to over the years (including non Villa ones) I have left about 5 early, in injury time when the result is not going to change and I train times to consider.
-
And you get to teach them basic morality as well.
And a little anthropology / theory of evolution.

There were a couple of little passes round the corner to players running beyond him that were great to see, I really like him because he's got the talent and confidence to hold on to the ball if the pass isn't on and the intelligence to not try to do too much if it is. There was one bit of play between him, Delph and Lowton (who played very well again and has a superb cross on him) on our left wing which was as good as anything I've seen from Villa for years, they had 2-3 defenders chasing shadows.
-
Apparently we had EIGHT shots on target last night.
Crikey.

My only disappointment from lastnight is that the whole ground didnt boing boing at the final wistle.
I would love it LOVE IT if we win Saturday & the whole ground done it.

My favourite Grealish moment was him chasing down their fullback, winning the ball back, then running at the backline and winning a good free kick (which I think Leandro subsequently wasted). The lad can work too, which is good to have along with his ability.

Lolorama. And too right.

I've avoided making comment on Gabby because, as has been stated, for the last few years he has been played out of position. 433 is all well and good but morooning strikers, with limited ability, on the wing brings problems as we have seen. It's the same with Weimann.
Gabby's finest atribute, some would say only, is his pace. He needs to hunt along the back line, forcing the opposition to sit deep in fear. Last night was a good example.
-

Boing boing? We're not a bunch of apes, jumping up and down like over-excited bonobos and throwing our own excrement about the place. Leave that to the hairy-cheeked primates of Sandwell.

As they did last year, baggies defended high up the pitch first half, that's ideal for Gabby. It's when teams sit deep he struggles as the space then disappears. One good run through defenders second half though.

Couldn't agree more Nev. I think we've all been pretty critical of him this season - and rightly so - last night was an almost perfect Gabby Agbonlahor performance.
More please!

Have to eat humble pie on Clark - he has had a very good season and think him and Okore are best long term option.
That's my view as well.
Okore is prone to mistakes but he has the athleticism to get himself out of trouble.
As for Clark, my earlier comment about him being out of the team if another decent centre half is signed, is based on what's been done in the past. He seems to be the first one out. Even Baker has been preferred to him.
Maybe Sherwood will take a different approach to previous Villa managers and keep Clark in the team.

-
The crowd was quite shocking though I thought. Although it did feel more like 35k than 31k.
The club needs to do something to attract more to fixtures against the small clubs!
-
Such a great feeling to come into work today after a victory. As someone said on here best feeling since that Sunderland game.
We deserved the victory first half we were excellent, you could actually see a difference. We were playing to our strengths - Benteke's power, gabby actually running at defenders and interestingly our players were moving into positions of space. We played with a zip to our play for at least the first hour.
We pressed high up the pitch and were full of energy again for the first hour.
You can see we were visibly tiring and we looked a real bundle of nerves from every set piece which needs addressing.
I thought Cleverley and NZog ran themselves into the ground for an hour and played well. Lowton adds much more from a quality perspective going forward. Okore after a shocking first hour got some vital blocks in towards the end of the game. Clark was immense. Best ive seen of Benteke and Gabby for months and months.
We have to use this now as the platform for the rest of the season. That performance was the bar and we musnt drop from it.
Sherwood yes he might be a mouth and say some silly things but as fans we can relate to him more than Lambert. You can see he cares and he is having an effect. We stand a much better chance of staying up than we did under Lambert.
In terms of fans it was awesome last night but the club have got to get fans back. Perhaps for the rest of the season they should lower all prices in all ends to a comparable figure to what Season Ticket holders pay. That may get a few more thousand through the gate.
The fans will return with victories and I would expect with the exception of the Monday night QPR game we will get 36,000 minimum for most games.
-
Well I can honestlly say that was one of the most enthralling moments of being a Villa supporter EVER.
Remy Juniors I and II were with me in the middle Trinity to witness it. Tears and hugging, screaming and jumping. Why I love football, Why I love football.
Stripeys were making lots of noise to begin with but were drowned out many times - until they scored.
Extremely funny to see a neanderthal stripe being manhandled out the ground all the way past the North Stand and being cuffed on the head as he walked.
Okore I thought looked a bit cumbersome but a goal scoring prevention moment from him - wow.
Clark - Im putting salt on my hat and chewing slowly. Turned into a fabulous defender.
Hutton - had lots of the ball and could have been sent off with a different referee. Lucky there.
Lowton - played well and will be a regular starter I think.
Gabby - Were the FUCK have you been the last couple of years hay ? More of that please.
Benteke - Ice cool penalty - confidence roaring back.
Cleverly / Delph / Westwood - Trimuverate that drove forward, broke up their play, won possession back.
Zog - small flashes, not match fit but hopully might get a few decent crosses in.
Grealish - little kid was a menace for them.
Tim Shewood - Surprise on the team formation and selection but positive. Showed loads of passion and how much it means to him.
The fact that it was a derby made it all that bit special but we HAD To win. Simply had to. Thank you Lord.
-
Get the fuck in.

This is pretty much how I saw it. I'd add that for Grealish to make a real difference he has to be more decisive when in front of goal (as per his last-minute chance at Burnley, if he'd put his foot through his close-range shot last night he'd be the hero ths morning).
I got home just before midnight still with a slightly inane smile on my face. It felt like a cup tie; the crowd were generally excellent, and it felt good to have a 'feel-good' factor at VP.
We need to reproduce that feeling and atmosphere in the other league games we have.
Sherwood's biggest challenge now? - keeping players fit and reducing the number of yellow cards: our season still hangs on putting our best 14 out each week and getting them to play to their strengths. Injuries and suspensions may do for us.
-
Can anyone enlighten me on all of these previous occasions they have apparently single handedly rescued us from relegation that they keep going on about?
Probably throwing away two goal leads twice last season.
It's also worth remembering, it's over 30 years since they beat us in a game that finished 11 v 11.
Was that the Carl Valentine Easter Monday game at The Hawthorns? I went to that. We were all over them but lost 1-0 if I've remembered it right. I was fourteen. I went home and watched Smokey And The Bandit on telly. Funny the little things you remember.

Considering he was playing out of position and hadn't played for a while, Matt Lowton was my man of the match. Can only remember him misplacing a pass once, then he immediately regained possession. Thought he was superb on that form gotta be an automatic choice.

Doesn't come much more deluded than that does it?
The Mighty Albion, having not been completely shit for about 7/8 games are suddenly the new Barca and The Villa a championship side at best.
Perhaps he had missed his medication.
Obviously the best thing that could happen now is for us to beat them on Saturday and go on a bit of a run that takes us above them...and for them to head in the other direction.
Which would be nice.

Winning on a penalty in Fergie Time. Gotta love it.

Former Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar showed he still has a soft spot for his former club as he celebrated their win over West Brom via Twitter.
The Spaniard sent messages out when Gabby Agbonlahor struck their opener, and after Christian Benteke scored a last minute penalty to win the game after Saido Berahino had draw the Baggies level.

From their forum just now, talking about Foster.
He has conflicting interests.
It's no surprise that the two players who it seems are standing out as having 'bad' games (I.e. Foster and Lescott) are both villa fans.
Clearly, Lescott has always shown his love of Villa whenever he plays (giving it the big man after they scored last night, that hilarious equaliser at Goodison, followed by a bit of posing, and then his sad face as he looked a dick when Ashley Young promptly scored again).

They're definitely starting to realise that Pulis isn't going to undergo some sort of transformation in how he likes his sides to play just because he's gone to the club "whose model Swansea are following" (read that on that westbrom.com forum this morning).
Jesus...some people. Whoever said that needs to be trapped in a giant butterfly net and dragged away by men in white coats. They'll be taking credit for the Barcelona model next.
-
What position was Lowton playing? Left back?
Has he got a decent left foot?

I thought it was the other way round and they were trying to be Swansea. Hence the practically all white shirts.
-
If I could have wrote a script on how I wanted that game to go, that would have been it.
One of my fave endings to a drama ever!
Nice. Despite not giving much attention to the Albion I can understand the importance of beating them for all our Black Country Villans and you, Lee. Having to live with them every day must be a chore. No doubt they'll be claiming it was a "flukey" win for us. I wonder what the excuse will be on Saturday?
Those 700 passes we made half way through the second half with the Holte singing "We're Aston Villa, we're taking the piss" must have grated the West Brasil fans. Deep down, they know what they are.
-

Yes, left back. Think he's only playing there due to lack of other options but predominantly cut inside to use his right foot. He still did a good job last night. I suspect if Cissokho is fit on Saturday he'll move across to right back.
-
Wtaching us last night, it was the best we had played for a while.
At times, it was like watching a threshing machine, it was that manic, but the desire to win every loose ball and oress the Albion was there. That attitude got us on the front foot. It is hard to defend against pace, people running at you, putting crosses in and it was pleasing to see us carry on from some of the good things we did against Newcastle.
Importantly the players reacted to the pressure of the situation and will have gained a lot of confidence.
The crowd was very good I felt and that seemed to effect the way the players went at it. They didn't stop their good work after 15 minutes, but carried it on. If we had been 4-0 up at half time, they couldn't have complained. Foster should have been sent off anyway in the first half for a stick on penalty.
Moss seemed to miss a lot of Stoke Mk II man handling off the ball as well, but we stuck to it, even when we seemed to be running out of ideas. It was a huge result and to say I was happy with it, was an understatement.

Indeed.
They wont need too many tickets for Saturday, quite a few will have disappeared up their own arses.

Goals (http://www.lastminutegoals.org/aston-villa-vs-west-bromwich-albion-premier-league/)
Thanks. Gabby's first touch as usual was shit but second just superb.
I thought his first touch was just about perfect.
It was a heavy touch, but he got away with it because of his pace. The one where Lescott cleared off the line was also too big of a touch and he didn't get away with it that time.
-
As much as Villa were an improvement on recent performances Albion were bloody terrible, that was also the worst goalkeeping performance I've seen in a long time.
Isn't a last minute penalty winner a wonder thing though!
-
In the second half I noticed that our players have a complete fear of crossing the ball (particularly on the right side closest to me). I hope that this is addressed in the summer as Benteke should thrive on decent crosses being put in.
-
Am I right it thinking Legion couldn't go last night?
Yep. Its Sunderland redux
He is however going on Saturday :-\
We should club together and send him on the Eurostar to Paris with his better half for the day.
Just to be on the safe side
One of those Megabuses would be cheaper.

I'm over the moon with the result get in there a well needed win.

Living in Smethwick, I drink with a few of them. One or two are good lads who you can have a sensible chat with. There are others though who let you know about it when they've won and we've lost. That result was for them.
-
What position was Lowton playing? Left back?
Has he got a decent left foot?
I actually thought he was very good there last night, put some great crosses in. I know Hutton is now suspended so he'll have to move to right back, but I'd be tempted to give him a run back on the left when big Al is back, considering our other options.
-

The Stripeys were crap because we made them look crap I reckon. We didn't give them any time on the ball at all, apart from that brief spell after they scored.
-
My Bulgarian colleague takes some credit for the victory. It was national holiday on Monday and Tuesday so yesterday he brought in some "Baba Marta" lucky charms to wear on our wrists. He promised me it would work for the Villa last night so I wore it and you saw the results. Happy happy.
I watched the game with another colleague from Doncaster, well used to shit Rovers football. His neutral take was that we were definitely worth the win, Agbonlahor was very good (but gave away ludicrous free kicks in the Albion half), we wasted good free kicks by not putting the ball on target to trouble a nervy Foster, and Okore was "a liability who seems scared of the ball". He didn't get the point of Cleverley "he just runs around a lot, but always a yard behind where he needs to be" and Benteke "seems to not concentrate on the game". He felt that Albion lost out by being too cautious after equalising and should have gone for the jugular. Oh, and Hutton was a definite red.
Our joint man of the match was Clark, with an honourable mention to Lowton at left back playing out of position.
-

yes

I should have mentioned earlier, I thought Westwood wsa very good yesterday: more dynamic and proactive, and his defensive work was much better than previously.
He played in a midfield unit that looked dynamic and complementary too.
It seems that something is happening on the training ground, and it looks promising.
-
Former Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar showed he still has a soft spot for his former club as he celebrated their win over West Brom via Twitter.
The Spaniard sent messages out when Gabby Agbonlahor struck their opener, and after Christian Benteke scored a last minute penalty to win the game after Saido Berahino had draw the Baggies level.
Yesssss!!!!!!! Cmon Villa
Vamos!!!!!! Great win #AVFC 2-1 #WBA
Good lad Carlos.
-
that is brilliant from Delph. lol
Please tell me what he said - can't access the link
-
Okore was a bit careless last night, but he's far from a liability. He reads the game well and his last ditch tackle was excellent.
-
If Lowton could sort out his defensive positioning he'd be a really good player. Going forward he's very good.
-
I think we should forget its West Brom saturday and concentrate fully on getting through to the semi final of the FA Cup.,which means we can go to Wembley!
Will probably be a different type of game to last night depending how the managers see it.
-
Always amuses me when small clubs like the Bitters give sarcastic cheers when the attendance is announced. When was the last time they got 31K for a home game?
-
that is brilliant from Delph. lol
Please tell me what he said - can't access the link
You can't tell, he just runs, when the pen goes in towards Gardner, says something (one assumes) then turns away. either way, the message was "screw you, cock face" or words to that effect.
-
Did anyone notice Lesscot's reaction on their goal?
Stood in front on the Villa crowd nodding 'Yes' with a stupid mocking face!!
Supposed to be a Villa fan? W*nker
He's done that before - I remember him doing it to the Holte End a few years back when he was still playing for Everton after he'd scored.
The language I used after that is not fit for publication on a family fanzine website.

In "that" match away at Everton, he pulled them back with a header, and was doing the same thing then, giving it the big "I am" in front of our fans.
Then approximately sixty seconds later, after he - amongst others - had fucked up, and Ashley Young scored with the last kick of the game, he looked an absolute stupid ******.

A big part of that was the change of shape and the extra movement. He could look up and see a forward pass straight away, which is key for way he plays, he can be the 'conductor' in there but he needs something to work with, too often in the last 2 seasons he had to either hit long into the channels or turn back/sideways last night nzog, cleverley, grealish and delph all gave him options early which made him look much more effective.
-
Get the fuck in.
Oh and have that you stripey bastard c***s
"Justice for football" my commentator said.
Probably not Poul Hansen - he is horrible - blamed Benteke for not even touching the ball, even if he had an assist. No wonder he got fired as a manager :)
No, but he was in the studio trying not to look down Camilla Martins cleavage :)
(One of the better things about the move. Swapping Gary Linekar for Camilla. v. nice)
Saw bits of the post-match - and yes - Camilla is nice - surprised she is doing football commentary, but she knows her stuff - and did I say she is cute as .... But I like TV3's coverage except that they use Faxe Jensen, Jan Molby and Poul Hansen...The only one that is worse is Morten Bruuhn on Kanal6.
But - justice was done! #UTV

The Holte End was rocking last night. It's all we've asked for just give us something Villa. They did.
They go on about atmospheres at grounds. 49000 Geordies Sat on their hands on Saturday, we showed how's it's done.
Special mention to the Lower North , superb baiting.. it will be twice as loud Saturday.

Well, that was fucking marvellous wasn't it? That's the best we've played all season (maybe two seasons) by a mile. Every time they had the ball, we tried to win it back which was fantastic to see. Keep that up and we'll be fine.
Have to agree on that, Even Young grealish was getting stuck in and winning the ball
-
For the first goal as the ball was rolled back to Guzan my son was moaning about it being a waste as he can't kick straight. Seconds later it was in the back of the net. I actually thought we mixed it up quite well last night, some of the time trying to build from the back, other times getting it forward early.
bloody hell Chris, Mr Positive has a negative son? ;)

Our mate Lescott just loves conceding injury time winners to us doesn't he? Brilliant

I was genuinely taken aback at how much they resembled the Pulis Stoke team. Time wasting as soon as they equalised. Fouling people off the ball. Only discernable plan of attack being set pieces. I expect them to sign a throw in expert in the summer.

I said the same last night. The natives won't like that, it's not the Albion way.
Amazing how quickly West Brazil have become Stoke. Shit football, well organised, time wasting, constant hoofs, dirty and snide, reliant on set pieces.

Special mention to the Lower North , superb baiting.. it will be twice as loud Saturday.
It was at times although the "F**k the Albion" got on my tits. I knew from the away game what was being sung but from the Trinity last night it just sounded like more support for the visitors. There was a time just as they were getting into the game during the second half when their fans were singing their version of it and both the Holte and the North Stand our version at the same time and it was like the whole ground was getting behind them because the emphasis in it is on the word Albion and that all you could hear. I've no doubt it gave their team a lift and the equaliser came not too long after.

Didn't give them much of a lift in the first half when it was being sung.

No I know - and if footballers were lifted by every chant we'd have seen a few more goals this season - but it was that one moment in the second half, might have been just after Dawson's header, and from my side of the ground you could see the lower north, the away section and the Holte all singing and the only clear word was "Albion" coming across loud and in unison.

Singing songs explicitly referencing opponents / rivals is really not good.

I think this was a deliberate decision from Sherwood - he said on BT after the game that Pulis sides want you to cross, so the thing to do is try and play through them instead.

The one they've quickly adopted which has always pissed me off with Pulis teams is jumping for headers arse first, you watch how many times their players turn their back on the villa player and jump with their arse out to take out the villa player mid jump. It drives me insane, it should be a clear foul but for some reason refs generally ignore it (he blew for it once yesterday after they'd got away with 6-7 of them already).

4 more wins would give us 37 points (even without any drawn games) and most seasons that's usually enough to stay up.

Just looking at an Albion forum when I saw this gem:
I've supported us for 40 years and in that time we've now played Villa 46 times. Of those we've lost exactly half 23, whilst winning just 8.
I know things have improved last few years but it's still fairly shite.
How many have we drawn?
Thick bastard!

They 'should' have won all 46 though, remember. We've just done that horrible villa bastards thing of scoring more goals than them more often than not. And we're dirty, remember. They play football the 'right' way.

Doesn't the fact that they've only played us 46 times (including a good few cup games) over 40 year also say something about their place in the world. We've only been in the same division as them for half of his time supporting them!

Yep. And 2 most improved as well.
The only downside is it means some of the 'better' players have really been off the pace.
