Depressing but 100% true. I really wish I didn't care as much as I do.

was saying the same thing earlier. It's like Lambert has had his balls cut off and any enterprise and ambition he once had on joining us has been replaced by a mission of not losing, and keeping us up. Entertainment is no longer an objective. It is a by product that is great if it comes along with the all precious point. Teams have worked out that 40-45 points generally does the trick and we are just about ahead of that pace to secure another year of PL revenue. We'll likely survive again by the skin of our bollocks and have the delight to look forward to it again, year after year.

Fear is a good point. Some of you may remember how even when we were getting twatted in his first season I was in full support because we would click and score some of the best goals i've ever seen Villa score. Only under Lambert that season would you see a team desperately needing a win score that last minute goal at Stoke. Who the fuck else would have a 5 on 1 (and the one is the keeper) in that situation? It was great.

But it seems like the job is beating him, he doesn't look like he's enjoying it and much like Gregory became scared of losing and produced some truly dire football, Lambert seems to have the same fear. When you become scared of losing, it's a lot harder to win.

Totally agree, it's so mind numbingly frustrating....I wonder if today got the record for least people sat in their seats at the final whistle...barely enough to raise a boo.

But the hopeless one wants patience!!

I dream of the Holte end after yet another turgid display walk out en masse halfway through the second half, that would no doubt gat a reaction.

Been saying the same for ages - he doesn't set teams out to win matches - he sets teams out not to lose .

Its pathetic .

The last point about Lambert is the one I keep coming back to, it is truly the most baffling of all.  I understand that with a bigger club comes bigger expectancy and therefore a bigger emphasis on not losing, but that has become his one and only raison d'etre.  It is a sign that the job is simply too big for him.  A more experienced manager would embrace the challenge of making us better and not just content with seeing us 'being hard to beat' every week.  I can honestly say I would totally forgive him if he took us back to the style of football we enjoyed in the 2nd half of his first season even if it meant we won some and lost some.

Just posted almost exactly the same "fear" comments on the post match thread before I read this.

A suggestion for the next thread title.

De-press-ingly familiar.

'Im-press-ive turnaround' would be nice to read.

The players may be fearful but Lambert has no reason to be.  He's as nailed on to his job as it's possible to be.

Fear is a word I hadn't factored in before. It makes sense even down to a very personal level with lambert and his lucrative salary. Fear of losing that.

Fear is a good explanation - but so is the Peter Principle.

I think it's a major factor with managers and players. Youngsters come in and play with no fear for a while then start to change and play safety first. I think Brian Little suffered with it as a manager once results started to go against him and he never recovered after he left Villa.
