More likely three centre halves and wing backs

I'll be curious to see how we line up. Perhaps Clarky will sit in front of the back 4. I wonder if Lambert might opt for the 5-2-1-2. Play Weimann or Gabby behind the front two and Delph and Sanchez anchoring the midfield.

I'd probably have played Bacuna in there as opposed to one of Weimann and Gabby. Just to give us a little more midfield presence and some movement.

Lambert suggested in the week that Clark could play midfield so that's what I think he's done. Also if all this talk of a new style wasn't going on I'd agree with the 3 CB theory.

I suppose if LVG opts for the wing back system, Lambert may try and match him.

Utd's side is pretty defensive it has to be said. ha ha. Two centerbacks (and even then Phil Jones, some still maintain is better in midfield) and then a couple of midfielders, 2 wingers, an attacking midfielder and 3 strikers.
The dour negative bastard!!

Would be stunned if Clark played in midfield. Lambert has always been against the idea in his time at the club.

Disappointing selection imo. Playing Gabby and Weimann together had had its day imo. Reckon we would easily dominate their one man midfield if we added Bacuna to Delph and Sanchez in midfield. Lambert probably looking for Gabby and Weimann to exploit their wing backs and push them back.

Should be a very open game.

Our tactical genius looks like in a battle to win the midfield will go for a 3-6-1 formation that will most likely after 5 minutes regroup as a 9-0-1.

Did Lambert actually say this week that Clark could play in midfield? If true it's only take almost 2 and a half years to see what everybody else already knew, add to this the revelation that we are indeed allowed to pass the ball, is it too early to refer to this week as Lambert's epiphany?

I'm just hoping the lads ignore everything he tells them at half time. I just hope it's not too late by then but I have a feeling things could get ugly today.

I imagine it's 3-4-1-2 with Weimann being the one. Like the Brian Little days.

Clark could be midfield in a 433 but I'd guess we're matching up against their 532

I genuinely think Benteke and Gabby can cause United massive problems in behind. Let's see

We do, but I wonder how many of them would be in the starting lineup today? Hutton obviously and Westwood might be in instead of one of the centre backs, but it's hardly like the Houllier game against them.

Perhaps Senderos, most people have said that they'd rather let the Okore/Clark partnership continue.

Not bad at all.  We still give the ball away far too easily and lack a bit of composure in the final third but Man Utd haven't really had a clear cut chance and we've come into the game a lot more since we scored.  Keep it up.  And give it to Benteke as often as we can - he can create something out of absolutely nothing.

Fantastic Benteke goal, really deserves a win, but we need more goals! Man U surely can't be as crap in the second half. My biggest worry is the Villa lads are at this moment getting the inspiration of Mr Glum in his half time talk. I can hear him " I thought we were excellent"

We improved as the half went on. In spite of the yawning chasm in midfield, there were actually a few spells when we passed it around nicely. Funnily enough, although it's great we're trying keep it on the deck more, I think we could actually afford to go more direct to Benteke. He's got the beating of them in the air. And if Weimann and Gabby play closer to him, it would give them more of a run at their slow defenders.

It's nothing to do with the price, it's a mentality. I've complained about his unwillingness to cross the ball endless times but against Leicester he actually did and we really put them under pressure. With Benteke, Gabby and Andi on the back post, we have to give the forwards some service.

We've created nothing for the strikers first half but if we can, we will make that crap Plastic defence suffer. Hopefully Lambert doesn't blow it at half time as we can get something from this, even if Manchester's second team do manage to score.

It's nothing to do with the price, it's a mentality.

I meant that when you go round buying bargain basement signings you get players with that mentality and skill.
Juventus were still getting the same player when they agreed to pay £15m for him.

Benteke looks a class above every other player on the pitch. The United trio are too afraid to get tight to him, Clark has found him well particularly with long passes down the sides.

United look very open, that break away Gabby screwed up with an awful touch he had two fairly open passes available to him with Benteke and Weimann. Fletcher is lost for them with our counterattacks.

We improved last ten mins but do need to keep the ball a lot better in the second half. With Lowton offering zero resistance down our right, cant see us keeping a clean sheet. More goals in it for us though with the form Benteke is in, Delph as our main linkman needs to improve

Oh I don't know, I just meant that if we had signed a player at left back that was banging in crosses and running forward and backward like Roberto Carlos and Cafu, we'd probably have spent a good deal more than £2m to get him.

Lyon paid 15m euros for him. I don't believe he's a bargain basement player, just somebody that needs good instruction from the coach/manager.

United going 3-1-6. LVG must have noticed that Villa save fading strikers' careers.

The frustrating thing is that they are poor defensively, yet De Gea has had so little to do. One save from Benteke's header and that's basically it.

We're not exploiting their weaknesses...and sitting back is playing to their strengths.

For the fans that turn up every week, I'd really like us to sneak a win. They bloody deserve it.

However, we all know it's likely to be 3-1 them.

Just heard on the radio that Lee Mason is the ref. If I'd known that, I'd have told you exactly what what was going to happen. Up here in Manchester it's well known that he's a United fan from a family of united fans. For Premier League purposes he claims to be an Altrincham fan. As if.. I predict a dodgy penalty.

Not only that but in his post-match interview he gave us no credit for our performance and just seem to think that Utd were easily the better team and wasted their chance for three points, which sound bollocks to me!

I thought he should have been closer to the goal when the cross came in..the cut back wasn't on as much as the cross in to the 6 yard box.
