Villa: Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar (c), Okore, Clark, Cissokho, Sanchez, Delph, Weimann, Agbonlahor, Benteke
-
Subs: Given, Bacuna, Herd, N'Zogbia, Robinson, Grealish, Calder.
-
Clark in midfield by the looks of it
-
Plastics: De Gea, Jones, Carrick, Evans, Valencia, Fletcher, Mata, Rooney, Young, RvP, Falcao
Subs: Lindegaard, Blackett, McNair, Rafael, Di Maria, Januzaj, Wilson
-
Who's Calder?
-
Who's Calder?
Assuming it's Riccardo Calder. Me neither.
-
Clark in midfield by the looks of it
More likely three centre halves and wing backs
-
I'll be curious to see how we line up. Perhaps Clarky will sit in front of the back 4. I wonder if Lambert might opt for the 5-2-1-2. Play Weimann or Gabby behind the front two and Delph and Sanchez anchoring the midfield.
I'd probably have played Bacuna in there as opposed to one of Weimann and Gabby. Just to give us a little more midfield presence and some movement.
-
Lambert suggested in the week that Clark could play midfield so that's what I think he's done. Also if all this talk of a new style wasn't going on I'd agree with the 3 CB theory.
-
Who's Calder?
Assuming it's Riccardo Calder. Me neither.
He's he the love child of Scimeca and Calderwood?
-
Pravda doesn't even have a pic of Calder on his profile page

I suppose if LVG opts for the wing back system, Lambert may try and match him.
-
Has Tom Cleverley set the record for most reasons not to be in the side? Injured, suspended and ineligible.
-
Who's Calder?
Competition winner.
-
Has Tom Cleverley set the record for most reasons not to be in the side? Injured, suspended and ineligible.
You forgot crap.
-
Utd's side is pretty defensive it has to be said. ha ha. Two centerbacks (and even then Phil Jones, some still maintain is better in midfield) and then a couple of midfielders, 2 wingers, an attacking midfielder and 3 strikers.
The dour negative bastard!!
-
Who's Calder?
Competition winner.
Isn't it great when fans get to play for their favourite club at their favourite stadium? Nice touch Villa. This has Tom Fox written all over it. UTV
-
Would be stunned if Clark played in midfield. Lambert has always been against the idea in his time at the club.
Disappointing selection imo. Playing Gabby and Weimann together had had its day imo. Reckon we would easily dominate their one man midfield if we added Bacuna to Delph and Sanchez in midfield. Lambert probably looking for Gabby and Weimann to exploit their wing backs and push them back.
Should be a very open game.
-
Yanited bench looks pretty weak for once .
-
Our tactical genius looks like in a battle to win the midfield will go for a 3-6-1 formation that will most likely after 5 minutes regroup as a 9-0-1.
Did Lambert actually say this week that Clark could play in midfield? If true it's only take almost 2 and a half years to see what everybody else already knew, add to this the revelation that we are indeed allowed to pass the ball, is it too early to refer to this week as Lambert's epiphany?
I'm just hoping the lads ignore everything he tells them at half time. I just hope it's not too late by then but I have a feeling things could get ugly today.

Riccardo Calder

-
5 defender and 3 strikers. What the Fuck
-
5 defender and 3 strikers. What the Fuck
Or one defender playing as a second defensive midfielder and two forwards playing a deeper role and getting forward to support the one out and out striker.
-
Either way it's Shit
-
5 defender and 3 strikers. What the Fuck
And two midfielders, seems pretty obvious.
ILWT
-
5 defender and 3 strikers. What the Fuck
I imagine it's 3-4-1-2 with Weimann being the one. Like the Brian Little days.
Clark could be midfield in a 433 but I'd guess we're matching up against their 532
I genuinely think Benteke and Gabby can cause United massive problems in behind. Let's see
-
Riccardo Calder
We have moved into the future and we now have Re-Gens in our squad.
Sorry for the F**tball M***ger reference.
-
......and the crowd applauds as Michael Carrick and 21 other blokes take the field
-
Plastics: De Gea, Jones, Carrick, Evans, Valencia, Fletcher, Mata, Rooney, Young, RvP, Falcao
Subs: Lindegaard, Blackett, McNair, Rafael, Di Maria, Januzaj, Wilson
United going 3-1-6. LVG must have noticed that Villa save fading strikers' careers.
-
Either way it's Shit
We also do have something like 8 players out for one reason or another
-
Afternoon all. Everything points to a hiding here, so I'm going for a 1-0 home win. Benteke.
-
Look at all those wankers in Carrick shirts.
-
Either way it's Shit
We also do have something like 8 players out for one reason or another
We do, but I wonder how many of them would be in the starting lineup today? Hutton obviously and Westwood might be in instead of one of the centre backs, but it's hardly like the Houllier game against them.
Perhaps Senderos, most people have said that they'd rather let the Okore/Clark partnership continue.
-
I'm watching this but I'm really not sure why. This has to be the closest thing to a foregone conclusion in the premier league calendar if you take the history of the fixture into account.
Still, never say die, eh?
-
We can't play like this all afternoon. They're decent going forward but shit at the back, so we need to keep the ball in their half, but our formation is preventing us from retaining possession.

you've noticed it after 8 mins so why cant Lambert?
-
(http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t217/coolerking99/_79863472_footballmerchandise_villa_getty.jpg)
-
That break was a good chance for us. Gabby's pass selection and execution was shocking
There's plenty of scope for us to get balls down the channels to the forwards
We're going to cede a lot of the ball you can see already tho
-
You'd think after richardson's sending off that Delph would avoid absolutely ridiculous challenges like that
-
WBA 1-0 up.
Bent has scored for Brighton, 1-0 at Wolves
-
No options whatsoever in midfield.
-
This is a bit like a cup tie between the PL side and the plucky non league underdogs.
-
FFS Villa are we going to stand there admiring them knocking it around, get a fkin tackle in!!!!
-
This is boiling my piss already. If we've learned one thing, it's that sitting on the edge of your box and inviting the opposition to spend 90 minutes trying to find a way through your defence is a dumbass way to play.
-
Matching their formation is basically handing hem the initiative. They are shit at the back, this basically means they won't be under any pressure.
-
BENTEKEEEEEEEE! :D
-
Keown and Jenas saying Villa too negative
-
Pure class.
-
The Beast!
-
What a fucking goal
-
I just did a little bit of jizz in my pants.
-
Come on!!!
The Best Goalkeeper in the World (TM) didn't even move!
-
YESSSSSSS
-
yessssssssssssssssssss! Lets see how long it lasts.
-
Yessssss.Benteke
-
You beaaauuuuuuuuuuuttyyyyyyyyyyyy
Absolute screamer
-
They'll probably let us score another yet!
-
Lambert already instructing Delph to defend like fuck.
-
Right lads, 12 men behind the ball, we only need to hold out for ..... 70 mins plus 10 injury time, no problem
-
WBA 2-0 up. C'mon Villa lets not piss this away.
-
Don't park the bus Lambert. Lets get at these fuckers because their defence is shit.
-
That was top drawer by the Beast!!!!!!
Come on Villa beat these twunts!!!!!!
-
We get it in their box once, they miss the first header and Benteke ends up scoring.
I'll say it again, they are shit at defending. We need to press them higher up the pitch.
-
Attack, Attack, attack attack attack
-
Fantastic goal. We can cause them real problems today
Lowton needs to stop falling for Ashley young's one trick tho.
-
What end was it at?
-
What end was it at?
Witton
-
What end was it at?
North stand.
-
the goal
-
Really need to change things tactically asap. Young is ripping us a new one. Weimann is totally lost in midfield and Gabby offering zero down the middle.
-
In what way is young ripping us a new one?
-
the goal
That is amazing!
-
In what way is young ripping us a new one?
hardly mentioned Young on 5live
-
Oh Gabby. If only our players had some awareness, we'd be quite good.
-
Fuck me gabby if you had a reasonable touch and passing ability there you'd have put Weimann theough on goal
We can do these on the break but we need to pick a better pass
-
In what way is young ripping us a new one?
hardly mentioned Young on 5live
Too strong to say he's tearing us a new one, but Lowton hasn't stopped any of his crosses yet.
-
Lowton does need to face up to young better. That's why he can't be trusted to play regularly. He gets completely square to the winger
We need a second and we can get one
-
That was about fifty consecutive passes from us!
Grealish could thrive in a game like this
United are pretty open
-
There's bloody acres of space there in front of their back four, and no bastard running into it to give the man on the ball a pass.
-
Cissokho has no confidence to cross it. I guess that's what you get when you spend £2m on a full back.
-
Frustrating we don't pass the ball better when we're in dangerous positions but I'd rather we kept possession than simply lumping it in like we've done previously.
-
Cissokho has no confidence to cross it. I guess that's what you get when you spend £2m on a full back.
He should still be able to hit a decent cross every now and then.
-
Agreed 100%.
-
Ciaran clark you're looking like the player I hoped you'd be. I'd given up
-
Ciaran clark you're looking like the player I hoped you'd be. I'd given up
Me too
-
Good first half performance. Need to go at them before they bring on the usual game changing subs!
-
The improvement has been astonishing since he started playing alongside Okore.
-
So far so good but worried for the second half. Young will dive and give them a dodgy penalty or they'll score from a free-kick. Please please please let us hold on, oh God of Football.
-
Formation is working well. We look dangerous on the break. Should have got in on goal a couple of times more. A fantastic goal
Any chance of some of you miserable bastards cheering up and giving them a bit more credit?
-
Ciaran clark you're looking like the player I hoped you'd be. I'd given up
He's been so much better the last few games. Fair play to him - I think most of us thought he was more suited to going down a division. Needs to keep it up.
-
Not bad at all. We still give the ball away far too easily and lack a bit of composure in the final third but Man Utd haven't really had a clear cut chance and we've come into the game a lot more since we scored. Keep it up. And give it to Benteke as often as we can - he can create something out of absolutely nothing.
-
Hope we can keep them at bay and score another in the second. Rarely back against Villa on the H&V forecast but did for today. Hope i'm wrong.
-
Okore looks every bit as good as he did in that YouTube video against Chelsea. Him and Sanchez make us much much more composed.
-
We simply cannot go into a shell now. We must, must come out and give it a go. The deeper we get the worse the eventual outcome will be. This is the ultimate test to see Lambert truly has changed and wants to play a different way.
-
Really hope we don't sit back now
-
Fantastic Benteke goal, really deserves a win, but we need more goals! Man U surely can't be as crap in the second half. My biggest worry is the Villa lads are at this moment getting the inspiration of Mr Glum in his half time talk. I can hear him " I thought we were excellent"
-
Well fair play to Lambert - he's tried a few different things as we were playing shite. Hopefully we hold on.
-
We improved as the half went on. In spite of the yawning chasm in midfield, there were actually a few spells when we passed it around nicely. Funnily enough, although it's great we're trying keep it on the deck more, I think we could actually afford to go more direct to Benteke. He's got the beating of them in the air. And if Weimann and Gabby play closer to him, it would give them more of a run at their slow defenders.
-
One thing you have to concede to Newton Heath they do pull in the crod. VP looking great nearly full today.
-
Cissokho has no confidence to cross it. I guess that's what you get when you spend £2m on a full back.
It's nothing to do with the price, it's a mentality. I've complained about his unwillingness to cross the ball endless times but against Leicester he actually did and we really put them under pressure. With Benteke, Gabby and Andi on the back post, we have to give the forwards some service.
We've created nothing for the strikers first half but if we can, we will make that crap Plastic defence suffer. Hopefully Lambert doesn't blow it at half time as we can get something from this, even if Manchester's second team do manage to score.
-
Weimann has been one of our best players so far
-
Paulie's bet is looking like extremely good value.
-
It's nothing to do with the price, it's a mentality.
I meant that when you go round buying bargain basement signings you get players with that mentality and skill.
-
It's nothing to do with the price, it's a mentality.
I meant that when you go round buying bargain basement signings you get players with that mentality and skill.
Juventus were still getting the same player when they agreed to pay £15m for him.
-
we're tenth at the minute
-
Benteke looks a class above every other player on the pitch. The United trio are too afraid to get tight to him, Clark has found him well particularly with long passes down the sides.
United look very open, that break away Gabby screwed up with an awful touch he had two fairly open passes available to him with Benteke and Weimann. Fletcher is lost for them with our counterattacks.
We improved last ten mins but do need to keep the ball a lot better in the second half. With Lowton offering zero resistance down our right, cant see us keeping a clean sheet. More goals in it for us though with the form Benteke is in, Delph as our main linkman needs to improve
-
Please no inspirational half time talks other than,
Dont give the ball away so easily
Double up on young
Score two more in front of the Holte
And lets beat the Fuckers !!!!!!!
-
Oh I don't know, I just meant that if we had signed a player at left back that was banging in crosses and running forward and backward like Roberto Carlos and Cafu, we'd probably have spent a good deal more than £2m to get him.
-
It's nothing to do with the price, it's a mentality.
I meant that when you go round buying bargain basement signings you get players with that mentality and skill.
Lyon paid 15m euros for him. I don't believe he's a bargain basement player, just somebody that needs good instruction from the coach/manager.
-
Is it wrong of me wanting to see Benteke put the young Man U CB into row Z with a shoulder charge?
Fuck me De Gea
-
Fook that was close.
-
Glad we've got Delph on set pieces instead of Cleverley.
-
There's potential for another goal or two in this game. When we concede we tend to let our heads drop so hopefully that doesn't happen today.
Brilliant pass by Rooney there.
-
Caught a bit square there but good save from Brad.
-
Brad you king!!!
-
here we go, invite , invite and invite .........you know the rest!
-
When Ashley Young was on form for us, defenders used to double up on him. Do we ever do that?
-
It's got that hanging on in injury time feel about it already.
-
Standing off them far too much here. They have ages to pick their passes.
-
Balls
-
Well that was coming.
-
Balls. Falcao 1-1. Come on Villa.
-
Shit
-
Fuck off.
-
For fuck's sake. You could see that coming a mile off. Young's been putting so many crosses in.
-
shite
-
Fucking arseholes
-
and there you have it! They have a half time talk, we invite , we invite and there's the result!
-
Young left Lowton for dead there.
-
Lowton just looked like Barry against Ozil during that World Cup game.
-
Lowton is awful.
-
Fuck biscuit!
-
It was coming
Lowton must be the only full back that young can still take on
We can still get more here though. But I think we all know what's coming!
-
Plastics: De Gea, Jones, Carrick, Evans, Valencia, Fletcher, Mata, Rooney, Young, RvP, Falcao
Subs: Lindegaard, Blackett, McNair, Rafael, Di Maria, Januzaj, Wilson
United going 3-1-6. LVG must have noticed that Villa save fading strikers' careers.
e.g. Falcao
-
Come on Villa!!
-
That was so expected it barely registered on my emotions.
-
They've had more chances in 10 minutes than they did in the whole of the first half.
-
Hair band wanker!
-
They have lots of potential goalscorers.
We have - and Lambert expects it all to come from - Benteke. That's it.
-
That was so expected it barely registered on my emotions.
Me too. What do we expect we we just give them all the ball?
-
This looks bad!
we really have to push out, manage Young!
-
We're dropping too deep again and the half's only just started Lambert's half time talks must be total crap.
-
Even more expected after De Gea saved Benteke's early chance in the half.
-
We're really struggling now
Need to get hold of it a bite even if it just means keeping it amongst our defence for spells as we did in the first half
-
Gabby needs to get his act together.
-
Had to turn it off. Hearing those fuckers singing just makes me sick.
-
Quel surprise. Following an inspiring half time talk, Villa retreat.
-
The frustrating thing is that they are poor defensively, yet De Gea has had so little to do. One save from Benteke's header and that's basically it.
We're not exploiting their weaknesses...and sitting back is playing to their strengths.
-
It's not like we came out to defend though, is it? We started well in the half but just started getting over-run.
-
Lambert knows what he's doing.
-
A point would still be a decent outcome. Going to be a long half an hour though, they way they're knocking it around.
And now bringing Di Maria on.
-
sitting deep and leaving them loads of room - trouble
-
Di Maria on for Van Persie.
-
I think id put bacuna on for lowton. More athleticism to face up against Young
-
We're just getting killed through the middle.
-
Lambert knows what he's doing.
hahahahahahaha. best joke I've heard all day.
-
Benteke stands out like a beacon in our side. A great big orange beacon that's also on fire. And a thousand feet tall.
-
Lowton needs replacing!! Come on Villa.
-
I don't want to start typing 'ILWT,' at the end of all my posts, but we're drawing at home to a good team that's on the best form in the country. Surely now's not the the most obvious 'Lambert's shit let's bash him' time?
-
Thanks Gabby
-
Brilliant.
-
Dearie me. Gabby sent off for a bad challenge on Young. Revenge for that Sky Sports shoulder tap?
-
FFS Gabby off.
-
Lambert knows what he's doing.
hahahahahahaha. best joke I've heard all day.
Not funny though is it.
-
I can't tell what that was for?!
But that's game over you'd think
-
What's going on! not even a foul!
-
There was nothing wrong there, was there?
-
Out for 3 matches over Christmas. Bollocks. But, may be rescinded.
-
Doesn't look a red to me
-
50/50 challenge apparently
-
I don't know if that's even a yellow. Jesus wept. Ref didn't even stop to consider that.
-
Utter utter bullshit decision.
-
Fucking idiot referee. That was a typical clash of shins following a 50/50 challenge.
-
God how much do I hate Ashley Young!
-
HOW ON FUCK IS THAT A RED???!!! Fuck off.
-
That is a fucking joke
That will be rescinded on Monday you'd think
-
Cant remember having so many sent off by Christmas. Is that three or four now?
-
fuck me
-
That is a fucking shit decision. It's hard enough against this lot without that kind of shit going on.
-
How the fuck is that a red?
Miraculous recovery from Young too. The little prick.
-
Should get that overturned. No good to us today though.
-
Not a red card, a collision, 50/50, very harsh.
-
Good hard tackle, shit decision from the ref
-
To be fair, losing Gabby isn't that detrimental to the team...
-
That is a fucking joke
That will be rescinded on Monday you'd think
Wont be any consolation if Man United make most of their advantage now.
-
That will be overturned terrible by the ref.
-
That is a fucking joke
That will be rescinded on Monday you'd think
I would hope so, we can't take any more suspensions or injuries at the moment.
-
only consolation is that hes been crap anyway
-
Ref got that wrong. Manure must have slipped him a brown envelope at half time
-
Doesn't sound like a red on the wireless.
-
Young is a fucking prick
-
What a joke never a red card despite what the commentary say.
-
I actually thought it was in our favour at first.
-
I don't have a problem with Young for that. It looked painful. Totally the ref''s fault that Gabby got sent off.
-
Brian little commentating on my feed saying it's late. The images show young bring just as late on gabby. Crazy.
-
To be fair, losing Gabby isn't that detrimental to the team...
Don't talk out your arse, save it for defending Lambert.
-
Brian Little reckons it was a red card but I still don't see it.
-
Young look like he'd just been knee capped by a shotgun weilding gangster may have contributed to the ref's decision. Gabby leaves the pitch and suddenly he's up and about looking like nowts wrong with him.
He's a scum sucking little puke.
Would I want him back here.
Hell no. I can't stand the cheating little bar-steward any more.
-
I've watched that five times now
No waya Red card
-
Fuck me how did we not score there?
-
not even a yellow
-
Young look like he'd just been knee capped by a shotgun weilding gangster may have contributed to the ref's decision. Gabby leaves the pitch and suddenly he's up and about looking like nowts wrong with him.
He's a scum sucking little puke.
Would I want him back here.
Hell no. I can't stand the cheating little bar-steward any more.
The ref had his card out practically before Young even hit the floor.
-
not even a yellow
Exactly.
-
Brian Little reckons it was a red card but I still don't see it.
SBL should have gone to specsavers. It was 50-50 challenge. Both men entitled to go for it. Not even a yellow. I think the reaciton of Young and his team-mates contributed to the red to be honest.
-
Mason had his red supporting card out by mistake there
-
To be fair, losing Gabby isn't that detrimental to the team...
Don't talk out your arse, save it for defending Lambert.
What?
-
Think someone earlier in the thread young would go down for a penalty..nearly right....obnoxious cheating little shit
-
Brian Little reckons it was a red card but I still don't see it.
SBL should have gone to specsavers. It was 50-50 challenge. Both men entitled to go for it. Not even a yellow. I think the reaciton of Young and his team-mates contributed to the red to be honest.
No. Who'd have thought that eh?
-

He's a scum sucking little puke.

Hell no. I can't stand the cheating little bar-steward any more.
The ref had his card out practically before Young even hit the floor.
But probably after his 4th spin in the air.
-
Cmon Villa, even if we lose today go down fighting
-
I was only saying Gabby hasn't really touched the ball.
As for defending Lambert, I'm allowed to say what I like. I don't have a strong opinion as to whether or not he should be sacked.
-
Come on Villa, get angry with these muppets. We just need to believe.
-
Come on Villa. Were going to win this
-
Hopefully we get that one chance.
-
Grealish!!! Get him on.
-
But probably after his 4th spin in the air.
Nah, not for me. Totally down to the ref that one. He couldn't get his card out quick enough.
-
I would love to win this game now. More so than any other match this season. I just want us to nick it and stick two fingers up to those jammy, cheating clowns. Bunch of shithouses the lot of them. The team, the players, the fans. A pile of fakking manure.
-
Ref's lost it. And I don't often say that.
-
You're not wrong - red and yellow cards given for the total of fuck all.
-
Guzan keeping us in this now!
-
I feel physically sick
-
How many corners can we give away!
-
I can't take this. It's obvious isn't it?
-
i dont think young got him sent off because the ref was so quick to pull the card out, but he did feign serious injury
-
You know who's going to get their winner.
-
Oh everything will be OK now, Nzogbia coming on :-(
-
You know who's going to get their winner.
Scholes?
-
A sign we have truly fucking surrendered, Charles N"useless.
-
You know who's going to get their winner.
Bacuna!
-
I think the ref still thinks Fergie is in charge.
-
I can't take this. It's obvious isn't it?
I've seen this before, I know how it ends.
-
Why hasn't Lambert taken Lowton off
-
Come on Charles. Prove all the doubters wrong
-
You know who's going to get their winner.
Scholes?
Denis Law? No, wait I know this. Gary Birtles?
-
You know who's going to get their winner.
Scholes?
Denis Law? No, wait I know this. Gary Birtles
I think it's Peter Davenport.
-
You know who's going to get their winner.
Scholes?
Denis Law? No, wait I know this. Gary Birtles?
Nah, Van Nistelrooy
-
For the fans that turn up every week, I'd really like us to sneak a win. They bloody deserve it.
However, we all know it's likely to be 3-1 them.
-
That's the worst thing. Knowing what's coming but not when.
-
The most gifted Striker cant get service. Sounds familiar.
-
Back four now isn't it? 4311 it looks
-
I can't take this. It's obvious isn't it?
Yup, N'Zogbia winner.
-
We might as well stick an OG in right now. Then we can concentrate on getting an equaliser.
-
You know who's going to get their winner.
Scholes?
Denis Law? No, wait I know this. Gary Birtles?
Nah, Van Nistelrooy
All wrong. Macheda.
-
What do we reckon for injury time? 5?
-
Good try Baccuna
-
What do we reckon for injury time? 5?
It will be whatever they ask for I imagine. I'm sure Fergie is in the phone to the PL right to make sure.
-
That would have been another screamer. Great strike.
-
What do we reckon for injury time? 5?
its Man United, it'll be until they score
-
What do we reckon for injury time? 5?
depends on the score against Man U doesn't it
-
at least 8 mins or until Manure score
-
What do we reckon for injury time? 5?
18 if it"s all square.
-
Just heard on the radio that Lee Mason is the ref. If I'd known that, I'd have told you exactly what what was going to happen. Up here in Manchester it's well known that he's a United fan from a family of united fans. For Premier League purposes he claims to be an Altrincham fan. As if.. I predict a dodgy penalty.

I agree - Lowton is crap. A shame after so much promise in that first season.

What's mental is that in the second half before the sending off we looked awful. Since then we've looked really good.
