Press officer. Media head. Whatever they call them these days.

The only time I've heard of him is when Franksy and his friends were crying on the radio after apparently being insulted by Doogan. For that, I wish him well.

At least he might have something to do at Everton, a press officer at VP is as much use as Anne Franks drum kit.

Hmmm. My neighbour is a well known local sports journo and he said recently that Mr Doogan had steadily pissed off pretty much every media outlet going at VP. Wonder if he walked or was pushed

I'm mildly surprised that he's off to another Premier League club. He's a nice guy and he'd always as helpful as he can be, but his first love has never been football.

Wasn't Doogan credited with one of the best put-down responses when addressing some puerile remark from the Porn Barons across town?  I've been wracking my brains trying to remember what that response wording was and, indeed what it was a response too.  Can you oblige please Dave?

I've been trying to think of a response but can't come up with one that reflects well on us, or similar. Written by Randy, apparently.

An Aston Villa spokesman said: “As regards the specific comments made by Mr Sullivan, we have tried but can’t seem to come up with a response that reflects terribly well on us.”

Was Doogan the guy O'Neill got appointed?  Is this the last physical remnant of Quitty's reign gone..?? Just the emotional ones to clear now :-)

From SJA (http://www.heroesandvillains.info/forumv3/index.php?topic=53056.0) at the time of his appointment:

Quote
Like O’Neill, Doogan is from Northern Ireland, and he was the Daily Express‘s Midlands football reporter when O’Neill was in charge at Leicester City. The reporter and manager have remained in close contact ever since.

Well, he spends every waking moment thinking about Aston Villa so he would probably be perfect for the job.

I followed him on Twitter for the hell of it and he seemed to be permanently touring the world's great sporting events and telling everyone about them...

One can only hope - perhaps there's a queue outside Tom Fox's door and Lambert is last in this line of nincompoops

Oh well good luck Brian.

The only time I have seen him was on a Chinese focus on the Villa about 4 years ago.

They sent a team to Bodymoor Heath - fronted by a bloke from the Chinese team which played at the 2002 World Cup, losing all 3 games - and Dougan was the link man between the interviews. The programme was actually a Trojans Horse, as they interviewed Houllier, McAllister and Brad and pretty much focused on their Anfield experiences.

He seemed personable and professional, with a shit taste in tank tops.

He was a co-commentator in one of the pre-season games in the USA; Houston, I think. Seemed quite knowledgeable and on message to me, but if you look at the match threads, several posters were not impressed with his performance.

He seemed to relish putting the press in their place which I appreciated. Like Dave though I noted he never really seemed to care that much about football and preferred other sports. I wish him well.

He went on WM once I recall and just came out with club spin for 30 mins. Which I'm guessing was his job brief.

This is yet another of the things that piss me off. We complain that club employees don't do their job properly then when the head of media/communications/PR or whatever the buzz word is today puts out a positive angle, which IS his job, we complain that it's all spin.

He didn't really have a leg to stand on. I think we'd just been dumped out the F.A Cup by Milwall, having just been knocked out over two legs by a fourth division side, just after getting twatted over Christmas and the New Year.

It was all spin though . It was all guff that was as sincere and robust as a Madoff investment plan.

As serious as Yorke leaving. Has Lambert threatened to shoot him yet ?
