It doesn't really matter. I bet there's not not many clubs who know the exact date they were formed.
It's a great video and David Bradley is a fine actor. The only minus is the current state of the team.

The date is side issue.

Certainly an emotional watch for me patricularly remembering friends no longer here who shared some if those times with me.

It shows what the club was capable of and maybe ,just maybe, might achive again.

It is very well done. That Gary Shaw goal is one that was already etched  in my memory, but it was great to see it again.

My Dad used to marvel at Charlie Aitkin's energy and speed at left back, and seeing him in that clip made me a little emotional. When he took me to VP in December 66, I was on holiday from boarding school and had only watched Allens Cross (now Northfield Town)  live, and I had sent away for a Blues photo and Rosette with saved up PG Tips cards. "Ah no" he said in his quiet but determined Country Leitrim way, "we'll go to Villa Park".

The exact date doesn't matter. We were formed in 1874 (probably), so let's just enjoy it.

Correctamundo PWS. Cracking video , though disappointingly Bradley sounds somewhat northern. Do we have any famous Villa fans who are Brummies other than Benjamin Zephaniah? Kennedy, Merv and Prince Billie  are all from out of town, and Tom Hanks is a bit fair weather for me.

Good point.
We played and won a few in non Sky leagues and cups before 1992 but no one knows that because it was not as if those matches were "decided right here on Sky" so who cares. We should really be grateful to   pioneers of game Scuddamore, Keys, Abaromovic, Mansoors, Glaziers the true gods.

I, too, see no reasons particularly to mark 140 years.  The video is good and pulls on the heart strings, but preaches to the converted: other than  McGregor being the inspiration behind the Football League, it didn't really say much that most perennial members of football's top flight couldn't say.

Yes, it's great but it doesn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

Maybe I'm cynical (infact I know I am) but they can make all the shiney, corporate type videos they like until the people who manage the club show an ounce of ambition, nous and commitment these things just leave m e feeling a little, well meh really.

Remember "Proud History, Bright Future" being regurgitated at some American college by the  General.  Sorry but after that this stuff feels hollow coming from them lot.

Exactly. Looks very much like all they can do now is look to our proud history.

I disagree. Highs and lows have permeated Villa's history, and undoubtedly there are more to come, whoever owns and manages the team, but there's always time to remember why you support them, no matter how they might be getting on at this moment. So I think think this is a great video.

I want to see our own version of Factory of Sadness done. Then again, this is probably not the time or place. Nice video.

Nice video from our American friends, although I think it would have been better without the background singing.

Things can always be better/worse.
Good on you folk for actually getting it together, happy memories of watching the villa in a pub in LA including with the Ozzy signed flag :) (yes I know Geezer is the real fan...)

Also glad to see such a decent official video, that has been shared widely by me.

Good to see the legends on the pitch , I could understand it being more low key this time and not helped with the low crowd and Monday night but just compare the euphoric Sheffield United celebration to tonight and that shows how far we've fallen as a club.

I bet it was still better than the Centenary of VP celebration.

I missed the legends parade arriving 5 mins into the match. I blame the local residents as always on these weekday night games. How dare they park their cars outside their houses and make it difficult for me to find a parking place.

In China Doug is revered as the inventor of the bicycle. He is bigger than Mao.

One thing that stood out when the players were bringing the trophies on to the pitch that has never really occurred to me before was that in the space of 25 years, we won every domestic trophy and the European Cup.  I was born in 1980 and 1957 has always seemed a bit disconnected to me, so I've never really considered that someone born in 1950 would have seen all those successes in roughly the same timespan I have been following the club .  When you factor in the drop down to the third tier and subsequent return to the top flight, what a 25 year period that was in comparison to say the mid 80's onwards period that fans my age have experienced.

Great to see the legends and trophies but the irony of the heights our great club once achieved compared to what it has reduced to now is no doubt lost on the brainless morons sorry custodians presently running it.

I like the official one but the one from the supporters in the USA is wonderful, especially the soundtrack. Well done all round, I think.

David Cameron could have done it to give it more passion and sincerity    ;D
Did anyone see Camerons speech at JCB? At the end he apologised for having to rush off, but he explained that he was off to Sir William Dugdale's funeral. He then mentioned Sir Bills wartime exploits and riding in the Grand National finishing up with "and of course he was Chairman of Aston Villa, the worlds greatest football club."

Have just found this video again on the net.  Wonderful, but makes me so much sadder about where we are now.
