Wow.Fucking wow.Least we can do something brilliantly.Must finish peeling these onions......
-
This just makes me sad.
-
One word, class...........
-
Great vid. Puts some perspective on things at the moment. We are having a rough period but we are still the Villa and always will be!
-
Is there any point in saying that this 140th anniversary is a marketing fabrication with no basis in fact?
-
Wonderful. Hope is not lost. We are afterall, Aston Villa.
-
And the winner of the best post for 2014 ...
-
However low we are at the moment, Aston Villa are, and always will be, the greatest team the world has ever seen...
-
Brilliant !! They should show that before every game now on
-
Summed up the Villa perfectly. Brilliantly delivered.
-

It doesn't really matter. I bet there's not not many clubs who know the exact date they were formed.
It's a great video and David Bradley is a fine actor. The only minus is the current state of the team.

Oh Dave. It's like you walked in the room at a party (or a wake), farted and then left.

No. Grumpy, old git.

taken from Wiki who claim it is March: Aston Villa Football Club were formed in March 1874, by four members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel (known as early as 1867 as Aston Villa Wesleyan Chapel)[1] in Handsworth. The four founders were Jack Hughes, Frederick Matthews, Walter Price and William Scattergood

The date is side issue.
Certainly an emotional watch for me patricularly remembering friends no longer here who shared some if those times with me.
It shows what the club was capable of and maybe ,just maybe, might achive again.
It very likely wasn't then either.
-
How could we have been formed in 1874 when football wasn't invented until 1992?
-
Emotional, it bought back some memories of loved ones no longer with us.

Great video. Hopefully we'll win something soon and have a new memory to remember in the future!

*Spoiler Alert*
It's a pretty safe bet that Jesus wasn't born on December 25th but we still celebrate Christmas, don't we? Dave, you do celebrate Christmas, right? :)

That was down to the church.
I suggest we ask Archbishop Cockthrottle to settle this

Now that the office is emptying and I have had a chance to watch it, I must say it is a lovely piece of work. I wonder who was responsible for the words?
-
It really is mystifying that the same people can put together something as classy as this, then be so totally and regularly wrong-footed by the local media.

Probably done by an outside agency

And I had to smile at this:
Story about the 'birthday'

gets one comment.
John Lerwill • an hour ago
This is NOT the club's birthday. It MIGHT have been the day of the first match, but the founding of the club was probably in October.

Yes, same here.
Good job, AV.
-
I love Aston Villa Football Club through good times and bad it's still magical and the shining light on the rest of English football.
Villa til I die!
-
Lovely.
-
What a marvellous video.
I wonder if we should show it to our owner.
-
Loved the video. So proud to be a fan of the Villa....
-
'A majestic name, a decorated past'.
Fabulous stuff.
-
Maybe this is the DVD that is going out to potential new owners?
(apologies if someone's already said this)
-
I may even conjure an assembly out of it; the kids will love it. ;D
-
Glory, Glory Aston Villa. The most awe inspiring name in football.
Love it, " you do not choose them , they choose you "
-
Very lovely indeed, kind of fitting on the day my six year old Niece asked if she could come to watch the football!
-
Don't do it! She's got her whole life ahead of her!

Important to sometimes remind yourself that the current malaise is but a blip in a beautiful history. One which has given many of us a number of wonderful memories.
-
Restores a bit of faith in the 'Management' that they do sometimes get us. Get Foxy to send this to few billionaires as a sales pitch.

It is very well done. That Gary Shaw goal is one that was already etched in my memory, but it was great to see it again.
My Dad used to marvel at Charlie Aitkin's energy and speed at left back, and seeing him in that clip made me a little emotional. When he took me to VP in December 66, I was on holiday from boarding school and had only watched Allens Cross (now Northfield Town) live, and I had sent away for a Blues photo and Rosette with saved up PG Tips cards. "Ah no" he said in his quiet but determined Country Leitrim way, "we'll go to Villa Park".
-
They should show that to the players 5 minutes before they go out on Monday.
They are so so lucky to play for such a great club.

I wasn't going to watch it, but so glad I did. What a powerful piece of film. Things are dark at the moment, but don't give up hope that Aston Villa will become great again
-
The exact date doesn't matter. We were formed in 1874 (probably), so let's just enjoy it.
Correctamundo PWS. Cracking video , though disappointingly Bradley sounds somewhat northern. Do we have any famous Villa fans who are Brummies other than Benjamin Zephaniah? Kennedy, Merv and Prince Billie are all from out of town, and Tom Hanks is a bit fair weather for me.

He is, definitely. There's also Carl Chinn, Barney from Napalm Death, him out of UB40 and Ian Lavender.

Wonderful. That's bought a tear to my eye

That's really very good, I absolutely loved it, very emotional too.
Well done to whoever filmed and scripted that.
Marvellous.

David Cameron could have done it to give it more passion and sincerity ;D

Good point.
We played and won a few in non Sky leagues and cups before 1992 but no one knows that because it was not as if those matches were "decided right here on Sky" so who cares. We should really be grateful to pioneers of game Scuddamore, Keys, Abaromovic, Mansoors, Glaziers the true gods.

-
Love it. Hope they play it on the scoreboard before the Southampton game.
-
Love the video. The only bit that was a bit cringeworthy was the "we don't choose we were chosen" line. Every club in the land can spout that cheesy line. Other than that it was class.
-
I've seen that guy drinking in The Dirty Duck in Stratford. My other half pointed him out although she couldn't remember his name.

I always find it strange that the big clubs are so much busier at this choosing thing than the others. You'd think it would be the other way round.
-
Any mention of Villa's birthday on Football Focus?
-
Should show that to the players before Mondays game. Then instead of sat shivering and suffering in the north stand I might have something to celebrate.
-
For me, choosing losing 2 cup finals as low points was skirting some of our slightly darker moments a little - but I did love it too.
-
I was thinking the same, that was the only duff note.
It really does chip away at cynicism and deliver a big emotional punch. Very well done. I've played it to my little lad a few times now. It's a useful addition to my brainwashing armoury.
-
Love it, most of seems like a dim but distant memory sadly, particularly as I was at almost all of those big matches shown and my dad was at Wembley in 57. It seems all we have to hold on to now.
-

Calvinist is that
-
Just love this as this is really how we all feel at heart..its just a dark time right now but we should never forget we are blessed with the finest club in the world (just a bit naff at the moment)
-
Any mention of Villa's birthday on Football Focus?
Doubt it. I'm not sure 140 is a landmark the bbc will embrace. Unless it's spurs or arsenal.

Or West Ham.
Or next year when Chelsea manage the grand old age of 110
-
I, too, see no reasons particularly to mark 140 years. The video is good and pulls on the heart strings, but preaches to the converted: other than McGregor being the inspiration behind the Football League, it didn't really say much that most perennial members of football's top flight couldn't say.
-
the gas lamp that is being erected outside the holte to commemorate all this is actually a temporary one. the permanent one is still being finished.
-
Brilliant I really enjoyed it.

Aftab, I am not even famous in my own family, though I have been recognised by a couple of Chinese people in Shanghai this morning. Looks like the famous Brummie Villa fan tag is on your shoulders
-
Yes, it's great but it doesn't tell me anything I didn't already know.
Maybe I'm cynical (infact I know I am) but they can make all the shiney, corporate type videos they like until the people who manage the club show an ounce of ambition, nous and commitment these things just leave m e feeling a little, well meh really.
Remember "Proud History, Bright Future" being regurgitated at some American college by the General. Sorry but after that this stuff feels hollow coming from them lot.

We get so many things right off the pitch, wonderful piece of film.

Exactly. Looks very much like all they can do now is look to our proud history.

I disagree. Highs and lows have permeated Villa's history, and undoubtedly there are more to come, whoever owns and manages the team, but there's always time to remember why you support them, no matter how they might be getting on at this moment. So I think think this is a great video.

I want to see our own version of Factory of Sadness done. Then again, this is probably not the time or place. Nice video.

Things can always be better/worse.
Good on you folk for actually getting it together, happy memories of watching the villa in a pub in LA including with the Ozzy signed flag :) (yes I know Geezer is the real fan...)
Also glad to see such a decent official video, that has been shared widely by me.
-
I've just said hello to Cowans, Rimmer and McNaught in the pub. :-)
-
Only thing wrong with video was Deadly trying to mention his bicycle kicks.
-
Good to see the legends on the pitch , I could understand it being more low key this time and not helped with the low crowd and Monday night but just compare the euphoric Sheffield United celebration to tonight and that shows how far we've fallen as a club.
-
I bet it was still better than the Centenary of VP celebration.
-
I missed the legends parade arriving 5 mins into the match. I blame the local residents as always on these weekday night games. How dare they park their cars outside their houses and make it difficult for me to find a parking place.

Marvelous, I prefer your one. Those blokes in San Diego like like a right couple of axe murderers.
-
One thing that stood out when the players were bringing the trophies on to the pitch that has never really occurred to me before was that in the space of 25 years, we won every domestic trophy and the European Cup. I was born in 1980 and 1957 has always seemed a bit disconnected to me, so I've never really considered that someone born in 1950 would have seen all those successes in roughly the same timespan I have been following the club . When you factor in the drop down to the third tier and subsequent return to the top flight, what a 25 year period that was in comparison to say the mid 80's onwards period that fans my age have experienced.
-
Great to see the legends and trophies but the irony of the heights our great club once achieved compared to what it has reduced to now is no doubt lost on the brainless morons sorry custodians presently running it.
-
I like the official one but the one from the supporters in the USA is wonderful, especially the soundtrack. Well done all round, I think.

David Cameron could have done it to give it more passion and sincerity ;D
Did anyone see Camerons speech at JCB? At the end he apologised for having to rush off, but he explained that he was off to Sir William Dugdale's funeral. He then mentioned Sir Bills wartime exploits and riding in the Grand National finishing up with "and of course he was Chairman of Aston Villa, the worlds greatest football club."
-
Have just found this video again on the net. Wonderful, but makes me so much sadder about where we are now.
