Sunday 31st August 2014 - Villa Park
13:30 KO
About time that we started looking forward rather than fixating on the Orient game.

win 2-1...:)

A winnable game. It would be nice to have another midfielder in there.
I am keen to see Sanchez start again and for Delph to be playing further up the park. I would be tempted to give Grealish a go too, as he as some guille and creativity that our midfield needs.
Guzan to come back in, along with Aly and Vlaar if fit. Sanchez anchoring with Westwood and Delph more advanced, Charlie, Grealish wide and Andi up top.

3-0 Villa. Tom Cleverly hat trick.

Sticking my neck out here but I reckon 0-0.

Given our upcoming fixtures, we could really, really do with a win here. Hull are coming on the back of getting knocked out of Europe so will hopefully be a bit despondent, but you never really know what you're going to get from them. I'd take a scrappy 1-0 win with open arms.
-
Be nice if we came out of the blocks early with the likes of Gabby and Zog shredding them in the first 10 mins , get the early goal then shut up shop and play out a 1-0.
-
0-0.

0-0 is a mere 6/1

As we dont have any forwards of note 0-0 . We might get one with a fluke though 1-1
The defence should be on top form again!
-
I watched one of the worst Villa sides I've seen dispatch this lot last season without trouble, so it's a home win for me.
-
Is it on TV ?
-
I'd be tempted to keep Richardson in the midfield to play on the left hand side in front of Cissoko. It gives Cissoko the chance to bomb forward then while Richardson covers.
Guzan
Hutton Vlaar Big Phil Aly
Sanchez
Delph Richardson
N'Zogbia Weimann Gabby
Subs: Given Bent Grealish Westwood Clark Bacuna Robinson
-
I think that they will still be affected by their Euro exit last night and won't pose much of a threat. Neither will we.
0 - 0
-
Is it on TV ?
No. At least not in the UK
-
Can't see any other scoreline apart from 0-0.

Yeah but they were probably saving themselves for the FA Cup final. 1-1 for me.

Vlaar and Aly may be out according to the Birmingham Mail with injuries
0-0 for me too, our defence will keep them out and our attackers can't score

Is it on TV ?
I hope not for the sake of football lovers everywhere
-
5.0 to Villa
Warren Aspinall to run them ragged on the left hand side of midfield before (Black) Andy Gray booms one in from the edge of the area in the dying seconds.
-
Last night I dreamt we were winning 2 nil with Ashley Young getting both !!!
make of that what you will , errrr nothing ;)
-
when we were truly in the dumps we beat them relatively comfortably. We'll do so again this weekend and lift the clouds over VP. 2-0
-
Another Sammy Morgan hat trick. 3-0

Paul Lambert
Paul Lambert claimed on Monday that the "feel-good factor" had returned to Villa Park this season after Aston Villa had taken four points from their opening two games, and his side will have gained 18% of their total tally from last season should they beat Hull on Saturday.
Whilst fans will be undoubtedly be boosted by their mini unbeaten league record, it would only be right to offer the other side of this particular coin. On Tuesday, Villa lost at home to League One Leyton Orient and registered one shot on target in the entire match. Four days previously they faced Newcastle, and failed to have a single effort on goal in the match, drawing 0-0. On the opening day they beat Stoke 1-0, again with their only shot on goal. Two shots on target in 270 minutes, and one goal.
It might sound churlish to say, but supporters' biggest concern over Lambert is the tedious dross served up for supporters, particularly at home. Perhaps beggars cannot be choosers, but if Villa could win whilst also offering a modicum of excitement to those watching, a "feel-good factor" may indeed return.
-
3-2
Hamilton, Little and Robson for Villa. Chilton and Wagstaff for 'Ull.
-
What a stupid kick-off time for a match not on TV.
-
0-1 Hull. Sorry but we are appaling at home, Hull were safe at the end of last season and looking towards the FA Cup Final, I cannot see Lambert's "tactics" being any different than usual and enough to break them down. More misery and another wretched home display. I hope I am wrong but I think its going to get worse before it gets better.

0-3. Wilberforce, Larkin, Prescott.
Change that to 1-2. William Wilberforce lived in that house in Rookery Park for a year or two.

Deano's Mullet has said it all for me. Us 0 Them 1

0-0

Really can't see where our goals are coming from given we could only muster one shot on target against the mighty Leyton Orient, and none against Newcastle. On that basis I'd be happy with nil-nil but fear we'll lose 1-0

Us 2 Them 1

If ever a match had the potential to be -1 v -1, it's this one.
Not sure how that would happen though.

Good summary. Did he really say that about the "feel-good factor" returning after a 0-0 vs Newcastle?

Is it on TV ?
Yes - last on MOTD2 for 2 seconds.

0-1 to them, boo

I think he'd better get 'Down to the Doctors.'

0-0. Two attempts on target.

Routine 2-0 Villa win, Godfrey and Rioch
-
0-0. Two attempts on target.
Progress!

0-0
-
1-0 scrappy late goal.
-
This is a definite goalless draw, I reckon.
-
6 nil. Simple as that.
-
There wouldn't be 6 goals if we played all day against them.
-
Either a 0-0 or 1-0 either way
Can't overstate how much we need to win this one.
-
4-0 we'll rip Hull a new one!
Oh and Delph will score!.
UTV!!!
-
2-1 I reckon. A goal in each half for us, then an 85th minute reply for them to take a few more years off me.
-
Either a 0-0 or 1-0 either way
Can't overstate how much we need to win this one.
Really?
It is the third league game of the season, and we have four points already. Surely it's not that important?

I love your optimism but I can't see us scoring again after the sitters we missed the other night.
0-0 to us.

It is given our subsequent run of games
Though I concede you could overstate it. You could say our entire future hinges on this game. It's a big 'un though.
-
The best time of the season to play the better teams is early on, we beat Man. City and Arsenal first 6 games last time and really should've got at least a draw v Chelsea.
So I can't see us losing our next five after Hull no matter how difficult they look. A win would be very welcome of course but looks like 1-1 to me.
-
Early last year there was a lot of uncertainty amongst the top sides. They've all has a manager for at least a year now. There were quite a few upsets early last season but unless you can call Man U a top side still it's been a lot more predictable this season so far
I could be wrong of course, but I'm not expecting much in those games
-
3-0 Graydon, Leonard and Hamilton.
-
1-1. Dawson double. Enough chances to win three games.
-
Either a 0-0 or 1-0 either way
Can't overstate how much we need to win this one.

No it's not, but it would be very nice to be going into the international break with seven points from three games.
-
Depends on who they are playing upfront, if is The Beautiful South we win 3-2. 1-1 draw if Fatboy Slim is their main striker.
-
Our home record is atrocious over the last 8 years, do you think if we filled the stadium Sunday and lifted the roof off the Holte it'd make the slightest bit of difference to how we perform with Lambert as manager??..
I don't think it would.

I think it might

No. Why do people keep suggesting it's the fans fault.
We have a clueless , tactically inept manager and a team that cannot create or score goals.
-
I've got a spare Holte End upper (K4) ticket if anybody wants it. Nearest to face value of £35. PM me if you're interested.

Not just nice, it's essential given our run of fixtures all through September and into October!

Hull fact. One of my favourite songs was written in Hull, 'Whole Wide World' by Wreckless Eric.

Maybe we should have a poll , how many shots on target

One of mine too, his search for a woman is like Villa's for a more productive midfielder. I'll volunteer as our Tahiti scout if it helps.
-
1-0 Villa. A slog and a pig of a game, but hard thought.
Delph to celebrate his England call up with a belter.
-
Villa 2 (Senderos 65, Grealish 88)
Hull 1 (Davies 16)
Can the OP or a Mod change the "City" in the thread title to "Tigers" please?
-
I almost put 'Tigers' but then I remembered that I moaned last season about people using incorrect/unflattering names for other clubs in match threads. Therefore, I stuck with the correct name.
-

the total for both sides I presume

All season.

A winnable game. Therefore it'll be a draw.

Absolutely, the point Man United picked up today puts them only 2 points behind, crucial we pick up 3 points to avoid being dragged into the relegation battle.

That can go third with a win tomorrow. I'd certainly love to hear your views on the other 17 clubs because if we have the problems you claim, they really must be in trouble :)
-
We should win tomorrow. The only worry is that Hull have never beaten us at VP so blind squirrel syndrome come to mind.
-
Hopefully we will see different tactics tomorrow. Setting us up to win a game rather than a must not lose approach.

I wouldn't know but everything I've read by him would indicate that he regards himself as a songwriter on the same level as Dylan rather than someone who can write clever, quirky lyrics.

Has anyone mentioned Paul Heaton incl The Housemartins ref Hull yet?

0-2 and I hope it's not any worse.

Heaton supports Inter Milan I think...he was at Villa Park for the UEFA cup games.

He's definitely had a long standing thing for Inter as well. I remember reading about it in a music magazine (which may have been Q) years and years ago.

I had to google to check I hadn't imagined it:

I had a Wreckless Eric single on 10" brown vinyl.
Villa win 3-1.
However I am attending this one so probably a sickening last minute own goal will condemn us to defeat.

He's also a cock. I've unfortunately met him on a number of occasions. Not the guy he likes people to think he is.

2-0.
-
A goal would be nice

Wonder will Lambo be tempted to go with 442 today? Sanchez and Delph should be able to hold their own with the former Spurs duo. Grealish has to start to give the crowd a boost more than anything. Nzogbia is marginally more likely to create something than Weimann on the other side. We have very little other options. maybe try Gabby wide as he has been useless in the centre so far. Would like to see our full backs push forward a bit more today but can only see more frustration ahead. With Dawson in the side Hull are likely to defend deep. But we don't have a Merson or Carbone type player to sit in there and take advantage
-
Clattenburg is in charge.
-
His second visit to VP this season as he was there v Parma. Slight change in hair style this season but prob too subtle for most to notice!
-
Come on lads do this today, turn on the style and get some goals in. If results all go our way we can go 3rd. Early days I know.
-
I know what you are doing here SV. Obviously setting yourself up a post match thread post of "Wankers, we could have gone 3rd today"
-

Ha, no I'd be happy with 4th.
-
There won't be many goals I don't think, but given our solid start, a few changes during the week, and Hull's extra games, plus them being bad travellers I think we should just edge it. Seven points going into the run we have would be very respectable.
1-0 to the Villa (hope I am saying that a lot this season ;)) with Gabby to score a very rare goal.
-
3-1, 7 points from 9, gradual improvement continues. I also think we will surprise a few over the upcoming tough game period.

We're going to see him. Bridlington Spa, December 6th. Anyway, Villa 0 Hull 4.

Vlaar and Aly both in the team, otherwise unchanged from the league team to date this season, no Sanchez
