Kevin has announced he's retiring at the end of the season.
Although he'll never go down as a Villa Legend ( compared to the present bunch of incompetents, he is) one thing you always got from him was 100% commitment. And when ever he scored a goal he didn't run round kissing the badge on the shirt of which ever club he happened to be playing for at the time.
A lot of people call him a journeyman footballer (whatever that means) but to me he'll always be remembered as someone who could rescue a game for you.
A goal scorer extraordinaire you could rely on.
I guess we'll never know why he never settled at one club, but you can't deny his ability to pull it out of the fire when you needed it.
Enjoy your retirement Kevin.

Good pro, good player. We should have kept him on for another year to be honest. He could have snatched us a few goals from the bench.
Good luck to him. There will be few clubs he's been at that won't have a certain degree of fondness for Super Kev. Had a knack for getting important goals.
To have stayed in the top two divisions at his age was an impressive feat.
-
He performed at every club he played for so enjoy retirement kev

One of the few that the title ' professional footballer' is both apt and deserved. I can never remember him diving or over exaggerating a tackle to get an opponent booked. I cannot think of a more popular footballer of the modern age and I am sure he will have a very successful career in the media. Good Luck to him.

Never understand why he left the Villa :(
-
He played his part for us.
Would've been nice to have signed him a little earlier than we did though.

Never fit into the O Neill ethos. Was neither a big bastard or a quick bastard. I don't think he had much choice. Shame really. I'd have fancied him to be a good option from the bench to nab important goals.

One of the good guys
-
Kevin has been a model pro throughout his career, he wasn't blessed with pace but he could sure finish.
-
Anyone who suffered the previous six derbies will never ever forget the elation of Super Kevs goal at the sty.
I, for one, will love that man forever.

Agree - especially the highlighted text.

Phillips would still outscore Gabby and Weimann, even at his age.
-
Great pro. Would have loved us to have signed him in his pomp. Wasn't for lack of trying I guess. Gregory had a £10m bid rejected as I recall.
Scored the winner at the Sty, his future paymasters no less, for us in Oct '05 under Dolly. Was annoyed when O'Neill jettisoned him. Strikers with guile weren't really his thing, unfortunately.
Didn't Ozzjim scan through his goods at Sutton Asda during his time at Villa?

Good luck Kevin. You were a credit to your profession.
-
I assume it was Doug that O'Leary ran across the pitch to at the end, but what I've never understood was why Doug was in that side of the ground and not the main stand?

Seconded.

I honestly believe that if he'd seen his career out with us life would have been so much better all round.
So many times since he left he's come off the bench and scored vital goals for whichever club he's been at, when we've been crying out for exactly that type of player.
Instead our options have been sending the likes of James Collins up front in desperation or trying to rescue games by making like for like substitutions.
Not only that but neither Blues or Albion would have won promotion without hiim and without his last minute goal against Brentford in an earlier round our League Cup quarter final at the Sty would never have happened!
There's no doubt that we shot ourselves in the foot by allowing him to leave.
Happy retirement Kev - my type of player. I wish you'd had a longer Villa career. Just don't score the goal that sends Doncaster down on Saturday please!
-
He came to watch our old Sunday League team a few times when he lived in Hill Ridware (in a house that used to be occupied by Karren Brady and Paul Peschisolido) and was often in the pub. He was exactly as you'd expect him to be, lovely bloke. And that goal at the sty meant he wasn't paying for too many drinks in there around that time.
-
Not many players can represent Villa,Blues and Albion and have all three sets of fans respect. That for me tells you all you need to know about the man. Great pro.

I think Blues did a similar thing to Villa when the middle Trinity was cleared to make way for corporates and club executives, etc. Blues did the same at around this time in the main Kop stand. They might have changed it back since then though.
-
Wish we brought him in in January instead of the fat fuck that is Grant Holt.

He also scored the goal that sent Palace up last year.

Yes, that's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Phillips, that goal was huge.

Same. I was in a box in the Railway that year. Just epic when we beat them!
-
Nice guy, met him in Lichfield in 2006 after we have lost to Newcastle. Really nice to talk too and he signed my season ticket book.
Nice man, wish him the best for the futre
-
Good pro was Kev, good luck to him.
-
Good luck to him.
-
All the best mate. Did 10 times more than some players who cost us 10 times as much. Enjoy and hope to hear you on radio soon.

Can't really say it much better than what has gone before, some great tributes and he deserves everyone. Good luck to him in his retirement.
