Saturday 19.4.14 3.00pm KO at Villa Park.
Will the shake-up in the backroom staff have a positive impact on the result?
-
Neck on the block - we're going to win this. The players will feel liberated and motivated, while Southampton are on the beach. Also, they're the kind of team we do well against as they push up a lot and leave plenty of space to break into. I think we'll get the safety win.
-
Law of averages suggests we can't keep losing and in particular losing at home. We will get something from this one. The squad will be perkier, the fans have been given a lift for a game a lot of us were probably dreading so the atmosphere should be improved.
Southampton are not on a brilliant run of form and have little to play for other than pride.
We'll win this one. Believe!!
-
Home win. Never been more sure. Don't know the score but we're going to win this one.
-
Moved to Heroes Discussion and stickied.
-
I can see us coming right out, playing fast attacking football and properly taking the game to win. Have a feeling we'll win this one well.
3-0, Weimann, Delph, and Gabby to score.
-
1-1 or 2-2
-
Draw.
They're already on holiday, some of their players may not be fully focused with half an eye on the World Cup. That said, we are atrocious.
Would love to get them back for that dive at VP last season though, even if we've already beaten them since.
-
An improved performance but 1-2 Southampton I fear.
I do think now we'll take 4 points from Swansea and Hull games which will be enough though.
-
2-2
Last minute equaliser from Gabby who promptly tells the Holte to tell Culverhouse to shut the fuck up and fuck off.
-
Feeling weirdly optimistic.
2-1 Villa.
Robinson winner in the last 10 minutes.
-
It doesnt bear thinking about if we lose
-
Us 4 Them 0. Cowans (3 pens) Baker (from a Cowans corner). Given will have a blinder and save a pen.
-
Us 4 Them 0. Cowans (3 pens) Baker (from a Cowans corner). Given will have a blinder and save a pen.
Lambert to provide much-needed midfield steel.
In fact, bloody hell, think how good that midfield would be. Lambert and Cowans. Sure beats the one on the pitch.
-
I'm a lot more confident that I was about this game, we might win.
-
I think we will lose 0-3 :(
-
Not at all confident about this one. A draw would be a decent result.
-
2-1 home win. Happy players = improved performance.
N'Zogbia with both goals
-
I'd be happy with a draw (elated with a win, mind!).
-
3-0 back to winning ways.
-

Lambert to provide much-needed midfield steel.
In fact, bloody hell, think how good that midfield would be. Lambert and Cowans. Sure beats the one on the pitch.
I just hope Lambert hasn't forgotten how to pass a ball.
-
I'd take a draw. I think 36 points will be enough, so 1 more from either Hull or Sunderland at home.
-
Think this will be a really tough game, would be happy with a point 1-1
-
They are on the beach and no Rodriguez . I really think we will win .
-
Think I will Be watching the dugout as much as the game
-
I would have gone for a draw but they lost their last game. Hull will be our next and final win of the season.
1-2 Southampton
-
1 1
I just havent got a clue really

I think we've got a chance now, too.
Like you said, they'll have plenty of the ball and will have a go which will suit us.
-
1 1
I just havent got a clue really
Do any of us?
-
Just bought a ticket, in the hope of a refreshing change from a coaching team that actually coaches.
-
We stand a better chance now than we did 2 days ago.
I've voted for a Villa win.
UTV!
-
With Randy praising Lambert 'watching him handle matters, I've seen total loyalty and commitment to Aston Villa' surely were in safe hands.
Obvious Villa win.
-
I think we may play better but they have a better team and a much better manager. 0-2.
-
Villa 0 Saints 3
-
2-0 Villa win
-
There isn't a "haven't a clue" option then.
-
There isn't a "haven't a clue" option then.
Being the current Villa I wouldn't be shocked if we won 5-0, or lost 5-0. And that applies to nearly every game we play.
-
God knows with the Villa
-
1 1
I just havent got a clue really
Do any of us?
Villa 5 Southampton 1
Blockbuster.
-

Villa 5 Southampton 1
Blockbuster.
Sweet!
-
3-0
Gabby hat-trick
-
Have gone for a win, but with this crew, who knows anymore.
-
it's my fucking birthday, so nailed on Villa win...2-1
UTV
The Doc
-
2-0 villa
-
I think we'll be lucky to touch the ball in the game. Can't see anything other than Southampton controlling and dominating the game.
Can we be extremely lucky like we were in the away match, because they should've hammered us then.
I predict a loss.
-
Villa win. I don't know or care how.
-
8-0 Villa, we're certain to win now that Jay "Cheating, Diving, Bastard" Rodriguez is out.
-
Scoring goals will be a problem again, (said in anticipation of hopefully being proved totally wrong).
And FFS play with some width. We are not going to break them down through the middle and if they get at our right-back, (whoever it may be) we are in shit street.
Just hoping that the backroom shenanigans will instill some fight, determination and resilience - sadly lacking so often this season.
1-1
-
There isn't a "haven't a clue" option then.
Or "We don't know what they're doing"
-
there is always one freaky result in a season , maybe it is the 6 -3 Villa win
-
I still think we need the orange dot!
-
I still think we need the orange dot!
It didn't help against Palace :'(
-
I've thrown it away.
-
With Randy praising Lambert 'watching him handle matters, I've seen total loyalty and commitment to Aston Villa' surely were in safe hands.
Obvious Villa win.
Cynic!!....
-
I've thrown it away.
Bit like the Villa in more ways than one!
-
2-0 home defeat. I can't see us scoring at all.
Villa park will melt down if fury directed at the empty directors box.....................
-
After this week's shananagens I can see more spirit in our side, maybe with even a positive setup (Albrighton) and can see us getting one point nearer safety in a
1-1 draw.
-
there is always one freaky result in a season , maybe it is the 6 -3 Villa win
Maybe it was the 3-2 win at their place
-
I can't see us winning this so I will say 2-0 Southampton.
-
We missed our chance of an 'easy' win against Fulham. This Saints team are just too strong for us and their manager is streets more savvy than Lambert. The only thing they have in common is the inability to speak English.
-
A little off topic, but I’ve just had a hugely positive experience that I thought I’d share with you all.
I have two friends from Japan coming to Villa Park for the first time this weekend, a visit which they have been eagerly anticipating for almost 5 years. A few weeks back I called the club to see if there’s anything they might be able to do to help me to honour the occasion. After taking my details they responded this afternoon saying that there were ‘2 home shirts with my friend's names printed on, awaiting them at the club shop on Saturday’. Call me sentimental but I genuinely had tears in my eyes. We really do support the best football club in the world.

That's quality.
That does mean one less player we can buy in the summer though because of the cost of those shirts! ;)
Hopefully this will be a good omen for a win.
-
Bacuna is back (http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~3772871,00.html)
-
Just don't put him at right full back. He's too prone to ineptness there.

Nice. But, if I were you, I'd worry about the spelling of Japanese names by a B6 shopkeeper!
-
We'll smash South Madrid 4-1.

Some pics from training today here. The mood seems good. Lambert looks in an unusually perky mood.
-
I thought that was a very craftily-assembled set of training photos.
-
I thought that was a very craftily-assembled set of training photos.
The manner of releasing them perhaps, but I don't think the mood is put on. I don't think there's much performing for the camera going on, it seems more genuine (unless they're all bloody good actors). It would seem Culverhouse and Karsa were two rotten apples.
Of course whether this makes a blind bit of difference on results remains to be seen.
-
Oh I'm very willing to believe that the mood is better. By all accounts of the situation, everyone hated Karsahouse.

I bet the marketing dept wet their pants when they saw your request come in, an opportunity to market the club in Asia is the holy grail of all football club marketeers. Good work HertsVilla, you pressed the right button there. If you'd have told them your mates were coming over from Honduras or some such they'd have told you to f#*k off!

I struggle to picture the guy's face to be honest. I just get visions of Alf Garnett or some similar character from some old outdated sitcom.

I'd put him in the stands, personally.

Must have been Tony Moon practising throw-ins that set him off.

Coaching Matt and Marc. Surely we are not about to see a real right back playing with a real right winger, as in real football tactics playing to your strengths..?
-
I'd be really happy to take the draw. Might be a really useful point and to stop the rot. I cannot see Villa losing five on the bounce. However, if we do, I would like to see Lambert sent the same way as the other two clowns.
-
Let's go out there and get a win. However I do fear for my liver if we do....

I would 100% take a draw. I think two points more would most likely do it.
But I think this has 2-0 Southampton written all over it
-

Too late for that now. Sacking a manager with 4 games to go ?
-
Villa win.
-
I believe... with the introduction of SAS this week to the coaching staff, the place around AVFC is a much more happier & positive place... The cloud hanging over Villa Park will finally be lifted on Saturday. We now need to play our part (not that we haven't!) by roaring the lads on to 3 points.
Villa Win

Same garbage as usual, 2-0 Southampton

There is a renewed optimism and hopefully it will help especially if the lads go out with some semblance of passable tactics instilled in them. I don't think it will hide the fact that the overall quality of the squad is very poor indeed. Let's get over this finish line and start sorting this crap out.
-
Think I'd play the 433 with albrighton instead of Weimann. Though we could perhaps drop holt and play gabby up top?
-
I'm torn between a rousing 3-1 win and another deflating loss. 3-1 either way it is then
-
I wouldnt like to call this one either way. A lot depends on Gabby putting on his occasional top rate performance which may swing things our way.
-
I'd go with a 4-4-2 (ish) formation with Gabby & Weimann up top. Holt can sit back on the bench. Albrighton to start too
-
I think that the midweek shake up will lift the fans and players and we will win. But I still think it will end up as Lambert's Bolton match if we lose.
-
I think that might depend on the performance.
-
Have just taken 6/4 about a villa win...draw no bet...not too worried about the bet but hope we avoid a defeat for one big reason..SID. .! The club is a shambles top to bottom and none of this is Sid ' doing..The man is a villa legend and if it does go all tits up this season I don't want Sid to be tarnished with any of the fallout...Ffs Villa batter the saints tomorrow.
-
A solid attendance, some renewed optimism at the back of a difficult week, some freedom and freshness in training. I'm going for a morale boosting 3-1 win; Gabby, Albrighton and Bacuna
-
2-1 Villa. Lallana for them. Gabby and Bacuna for us.
-
I wouldnt like to call this one either way. A lot depends on Gabby putting on his occasional top rate performance which may swing things our way.
This is it for me to. You'd like to think if Gabby was one of the ones who didn't have a particularly good relationship with Culverhouse, that his mood will now be a lot brighter. The last month Gabby's form has been very poor, but he's not put the yards in either. He cut a very frustrated figure on the pitch.
I'm hoping this is going to be one of those games where he's got a rocket up the backside and will drag us through. On his day he'd unplayable. Those days become increasingly rare, but they do still happen and hopefully tomorrow is one of those days.
-
Villa 2 Saints 2 i am going for
-
6-1 villa win
-
Put them to the sword. 4-1
McNaught, Evans, Curbishley, Geddis
Ivan Golac for them.
-
I haven't been on the abbots or the weed but I'm actually looking forward to being there tomorrow which is the first time in a very long time.. like the man said."would you bet against us ". Nope..but then again I haven't risked too much betting on us.
-
2-2 or 4-1 to us.
It's been a very strange week with so many unexplainable things happening, why not a Villa home win to cap the week off.
4-1 it is.
-
Think our new "potential" owners could threaten to buy Southampton and turn it into a wind farm if they do not let us win !!! 1-0 Bacuna ........
-
Kind of hoping the Southampton manager and some of their star players are already planning their summer activities. They have had some strange results lately which suggests a lack of focus. Though they have players that could walk through us at will if we turn up like we did for any of the last few games. I think after the antics last week it will be a fired up Villa team from the start so should be a good game. Steven Davis is one MON erred in letting go imo, he played outstanding against us in the away game. He will need watching.
Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Bertrand, Bacuna, Westwood, Delph, Albrighton, Holt, Gabby. 44facking2 Not sure if we even have other options - Baker, Bennett, KEA, Weimann, Tonev, Bowery - yikes
1-0 to the Villa. Holt with a late winner
-
0-3 southampton fed up the villa tactics paper over the shite
-
2-0 win. Their players are already on the beach.
-
I hope so, we need to win.
-
2-0 win. Their players are already on the beach.
in Rio ')
-
After losing last weekend, one thing I'm sure about is the Southampton team won't be on the beach.
We'll still win but it will be a tough game.
-
I just hope that we all get behind the lads and dont start moaning and groaning at the first misplaced pass.
-
I hope people don't think this is a must win game, cod I really would be surprised if we win!
Also interesting to note that I think we'd all agree they are a much better team than us at the moment. They have spent big on a handful of players but actually Ramirez, Wanyama and that Italian fwd back at juve haven't really been keen players. Otherwise their team is made up of "a bunch of lower league players, youth team graduates and cheap signings". It's the model that we've been most obviously trying to follow and they've shown it can work. The main differences are
- they've obviously got a much better youth set up for one reason or another
- they've managed to start the journey in the reduced pressure of the lower leagues
- they've crucially managed to get in better creative players. We don't really have one who's done it, they've got lallana, shneiderlin, Ramirez, even lambert and Rodriguez
I think they've done a brilliant job and hope they manage to keep onto their best players for a bit longer.
-
We'll win today. It has been written.
-
I'm not predicting anything other than they'll score first.
-
I have a weird feeling that we have yet to reach the bottom. I'm not predicting a Villa win at all, and if anything I reckon we could be in for another show-up today.
-
I think our own 'SAS' (Sid and Shay) will have them up for it.
2-1 the Villa.
-
For all the criticism of the board and the PR side, they could well have played an absolute blinder this week.
They've refreshed the coaching staff without spending a penny, they've kept their options open on the manager himself and this takeover talk hitting the papers, which may or may not have eminated from within the club, will ensure the fans will be ramped up for this game.
When I filled out my soccer 6 predictions last Monday I put us down for a loss.
I've just changed it to a 2-0 win.
-
I feel more optimistic this morning than I have for ages on a match day. For some reason I think Southampton will be slow to start and Villa will just click, racing into a 2 nil lead in the first half and both teams cancelling each other out in a goalless second half.
Please Villa, don't put in another turgid performance.
-
If the players aren't pumped up for this today then they never will be . Wonder if Karsa and Culverhouse will be in the away end .
-
Feeling a bit twitchy today, who knows how we will do but I am going for a narrow Villa win, I am staying away from the match and will turn on my phone about 5, on the rare occasions that we win my eldest son always rings and after a very excited conversation we both have a brilliant evening, please win this game Villa.
-
If we can't tank them, then the second nicest way to win this would be 1-0 with the most blatantly unjust penalty since the one they were awarded at Villa Park last year.
-
I would actually be really disappointed now If we did not win this to be honest
mind , I am disappointed a lot
-
In Puerto Del Carmen looking for somewhere that will be showing the game. Can't find Danlanza to advise me either!
-
Oh and 3-1 Villa, Robinson hattrick.
-
Just win, Villa. Win at all costs!

-
Best team he could have put out IMO Weimann in benteke role, albrighton in Weimann role ?
-
I'm not confident. I just hope we can fluke a win or even a draw.
-
Overall I'm happy with that team I think.
-
Best team he could have put out IMO Weimann in benteke role, albrighton in Weimann role ?
Weimann on the right and Albrighton on the left, with Gabby down the middle?
-
Overall I'm happy with that team I think.
It's about as good as we have barring long term injuries.
-
Best side available probably. The fantasist in me wanted Robinson and Helenius to play. Hopefully Robinson will get some game time in this. We do need a fresh injection somewhere. I'm hoping Gabby's got a spring in his step, and hopefully Weimann is played through the middle, and he'll get the chance to play his natural game.
That said, the Soton side is a lot better. Hopefully they're (forum cliché alert) on the beach already though

Me sorry. Far too easy to do on a phone. Am away in the lakes at the moment with an awful Internet connection.
