Title: Sid 'n' Shay: the positive vibes thread
Post by: Louzie0 on April 15, 2014, 05:20:07 PM
In the interests of keeping the speculation and dodgy news to other dedicated threads already under way, I thought we might use a new one to wish the very best of luck to our new coaching supremos.
And the club, of course and all who sail - you get the idea.

Good shout, Louzie0. I think what has happened today will have a massively positive effect on Saturday, and for the remainder of the season.

First game I looking forward to since Liverpool at home back in August. Delighted to see Sid involved in our hour of need. Respect to Shay for being a perfect professional and to the club for giving him the opportunity.

The other good news is it's only Tuesday. The lads will be buzzing come Saturday.

Off to dig out The Jackson Sisters - I Believe in Miracles. It's that kind of day.

The players like them, if rumours are true they didn't like he previous coaches, so a change of mood and an uplift in belief could really give the likes of Gabby a lift.

Hopefully our West Ham bounce coming up this weekend. I am looking forward to it.

I went to the Lions and Legends charity game on Sunday and saw Sid playing. In fact he tailgated me through Boldmere to get there. Spoke to him in the bar after but only to get a picture signed.

If this is down to Faulkner I'm impressed.

Sid has probably forgot more about passing, movement and general football nous than a third rate midfielder (Culverhouse) will  ever learn.

I think we only need to bounce to one more win and we'd stay up.  Moreso this moves suggests that the clubs rulers will not accept the level of performance that we have seen over this season.  Admittedly most - myself included - would prefer to see Lambert gone too, but this is a move in the right direction.  Not to mention a good way of reducing any compensation due.

Yeah it could get worse. But I dont want to shit up the positive vibes thread. Lets hope that Cowans ability to weave a web of mastery in midfield can translate to the first team. Hopefully he and Shay will get a nice roar of support.

i met david platt just off tottenham court road two weeks ago and shook his hand thanked him for everything he did for the villa etc and he said that we need VILLA men on the coaching staff just like it was when brian little was in charge.
always remember when he said years ago his one ambition in life was to make a run into the box that gordan cowans didnt see.
good luck sid but is this lamberts final throw of the dice ??

Well well, interesting news. Many have said all ain't well somewhere.  If they are the poison then good riddance and I personally think that promoting given just shows Lambert is not that stubborn and is willing to learn, change and do whatever to make it work here.

All the best of luck to Sid, Given and the rest of the coaching staff. Lambert being more hands of makes perfect sense to me. Why managers these days feel no need to be there with the team during the week is madness.

I'm quite excited again now .

And actually, Noele Gordon died on April 14th, 1985, so her anniversary is very pertinent to this crisis in her club. She is definitely with us!

Just want the First Team to rediscover that approach and for those who weren't there at the youth stage, to be persuaded. We know it works.

Get the feeling this may be like a massive release of tension for everyone, players, fans, management, just a pity we dont have the big fella up front to capitalize. can`t put my finger on it but it might just be what was needed, because whatever was going on - and something obviously was, it sure wasn`t helping.

Training- Day one of the Sid 'n' Shay show.

Sid: Lesson one lads...pass the fucking ball.

Gabby raises his hand. Sid frowns.

Sid: To someone wearing the same colour shirt as you.

Gabby lowers his hand. Nathan Baker raises his hand.

Sid: And someone on the pitch. Not in the crowd.

Baker lowers his hand.

Sid: Pass and move lads. Pass and move.

The squad looks on confused, struggling to fathom the new fangled concept that Sid Cowans is peddling.

Shay: It's gonna be a long week boss.

Sid: Yes. Where's Paul?

Shay: He's hiding under his desk in the office, rocking gently back and forth.

In fact easter that year was when we beat The Scum 3-1.

Andy Gray is obviously intelligent on the football side of things and has experience of being an assistant manager. Shay Given strikes me as the same sort of football thinker. Sorry to say this but I think Gordon Cowans has been around at Villa Park for far too long without showing
any exceptional coaching skills. But he is, of course, popular with the fanbase because of his playing skills.

Its quite possibly Lambert is using him to gain favour with the support and if that is true it is disgraceful.

I think the reality is that the club at board and management level have become too detached from the fans.  Getting Sid back with the first team should give everyone a big lift as he has such a presence at Villa.  Plus he's worked with the likes of Wiemann, Gabby, Clark and Baker in the past, so perhaps Sid knows how to get more out of them.

Having sat in the Trinity Road stand, I can vouch that Culverhouse has been, shall we say, rather obnoxious with one or two of us.  If you don;t like the heat Ian then you shouldn't go in the kitchen.

Seems strange going onto Saturday that the number one nd number two in the dugout are former European champions!

Having been so excited about a forthcoming villa game for seems like ages. Hope we get the win and kick on. The players should be so pumped and motivated to win this game.

Given sounds like an all round good egg and along with Sid this might be just what Lambert needed. You get the impression that Culverhouse and Karsa became a bit Keyes and Gray. I'm glad they're gone (almost) and that good people and football people are getting a chance, if only possibly temporarily

Anyone who genuinely thinks Lambert is "using" Cowans to gain favour with Villa fans simply does not like Lambert. Ron, all due respect but I think that theory is crazy.

Anything is possible in the wonderful world of football, TV. It has been reported that bullying may have taken place. As Eastie is no longer with us do you know who is the players union rep at Villa Park? You would have thought this kind of behaviour (if true) would have been reported to their elected union rep.

Bullying is very hard to prove. They must have lots of evidence from lots of sources if indeed it is bullying as per the rumours

Got to admit I was hoping for more.

However, the impact of 3 days up against the negativity of several months was probably always going to be difficult to establish.

Hopefully, the next week should help to improve the well being of the squad and ditto the following weeks till the end of the season.  Aiming to improve the performance on match day, of course.

Best bit of Saturday was young Robinson coming on at last.

To be fair Louzie0, the best bit of Saturday was not losing - again! And we could easily have done so.

But it was great to see him come on and probably the biggest cheer of the day from the Villa fans.
UTV!

Would prefer Sid to stay with the kids.  Dont want his reputation tarnished in association with Lambert

We need an experienced assistant in if Lambert stays

Most positive vibiest thing I have is that our defence is good enough to get us two more 0-0 draws before the end of the season.
