Title: Trouble today?
Post by: greenwichvilla on December 28, 2013, 10:57:00 PM
There's a lot of word on Twitter about someone being stabbed outside the ground today. I can't see any outlets reporting it.

Did anyone see any trouble? Hoping it's not true.

Depending on what you believe there was a stabbing, glassing, bottling or shooting. Villa fans stating it was a Villa fan attacked and Swans stating it was one of theirs. Guy on Planet Swans states he knows the guy who left during the game and approached a Villa pub (Aston Hotel) and was attacked by Villa fans (3 arrests). He may have provoked the trouble.
Whatever - don't let internet rumours get in the way of the truth. Unfortunate whoever it was.

Ace roving reporter PWS was the first to report this incident on another thread.

I don't actually believe any of it. Which is why I came on here to ask.

This is what I mentioned in the match thread.
He looked pretty fucked up. I thought he was a Swansea fan as there was a bloke by him with a Welsh accent who was very angry and upset arguing with the policeman treating him, on the bus people were saying it was a lone Villa fan jumped by a bunch of Swansea. As I walked past he wasn't moving and the police had a bunch of people handcuffed. Some women was a bit hysterical and saying she saw someone stabbed with a bottle. Looked very nasty and I really do hope he is okay whoever he supports.

Whoever the person supported that was attacked, it is disgraceful. We have been through this before and don't want a return of it.

Just no need for it at all.

Hope whoever was injured is ok.  It's only bloody football, no need for violence.

Saw a fellow on the floor being treated on Witton Lane and he seemed to be unconscious. I also saw a couple of lads being put in a van and they sounded like Brummies. Quite a few cops down there and it seemed like a serious incident had occurred, though not a large scale one.

We walked past all that as well. The chap was lying on the floor with his head being held up by his mate and there were a few lads sitting in a riot fan. All very grim.

i saw the bloke on the floor being treated on the way to Witton station but don't know what went on,but a  bunch of Swansea fans tried to get in the Aston Hotel about 13.30 giving it large as only 16-17 year olds with cans of carling can so would'nt be surprized if one of them had got a slap after the game.

How sad that this has occurred and lets hope whoever was injured makes a speedy recovery - it's not acceptable and I hope the culprits are punished accordingly.

Why oh Why do a brainless bunch of thugs believe that they can solve everything with a return to these kinds of ugly scenes! There is no place for this kind of behaviour anywhere!!. I hope that the injured recover well , am sorry for their distress and condemn the guilty ! This is not what Aston Villa is about! I just wish these idiots would grow up.

I doubt it was much of an incident before the game as I sell on Witton Lane and on the odd occasion anything happens down by the island you can hear it and see the police heading down there.

One Swansea fan was injured, arrests were made and the story about the man being beaten up in front of his five year old is untrue.

This is all very sad, why people have to make up rumours which stoke the fire is beyond me.

Pity that football has to be involved.   I got home from the game on Boxing Day with half of the Cambridgeshire constabulary roaring around and above our village, police with dogs, police with guns, police dogs with guns (I made that bit up) all over a gypsy punch up with one man getting bottled.   Wherever men who drink large quantities of alcohol congregate this sort of thing happens.   Hope the victims get well quickly and their assailants get punished equally speedily.

From Birmingham Mail

Three arrested after 'Football Factory' violence at Aston Villa match
30 Dec 2013 09:21
Mum-of-two Michelle Webb said her children were traumatised after seeing fans fighting with “bottles and sticks”

Three men have been arrested after Aston Villa and Swansea fans brawled during ugly violence reminiscent, said one horrified mum, of scenes from hooligan film The Football Factory.

Michelle Webb said her young children had suffered nightmares after seeing fans fighting with “bottles and sticks” after Villa’s draw with the Welsh side on Saturday.

The mum-of-two also claimed her family witnessed a man being stamped on.

On the Aston Villa “news and scores” Facebook page, she called for the violence to be thoroughly investigated.

West Midlands Police yesterday confirmed disorder had broken out near to the Aston Hotel before the final whistle was blown.

On twitter, Aston Villa police unit said three men had been arrested for affray and enquires are “ongoing”.

Michelle, who works in admin at St Paul’s School for Girls, Edgbaston, took to the social networking site after the game and said: “My kids are really, really upset by what they witnessed this afternoon, that’s not right.

“They left the game five minutes before the final whistle and walked straight into what can only be described as a scene from The Football Factory.

“At least 25 adults armed with bottles and sticks laid into each other just yards in front of them.

“People were screaming but they still carried on. My son has already had one nightmare tonight.

“I’ve had to simplify it and say the naughty people are in prison and Santa won’t come to them ever again.

“To see a lifeless man on the floor being stamped on is a vision my husband and 15-year-old daughter will struggle to erase from their memory.”

James Matthews, another fan on the site, posted: “I walked past the Aston Hotel as it happened.

“A group of fans were getting battered.”

Police acted quickly to rubbish claims an individual was stabbed during the trouble.

On a seperate note there was a post on here a few weeks ago about a guy with a child on his shoulders who smashed up someone's car - a photo was posted at the time - anyone know if he was ever caught?

Maybe it's just me, but the local media do seem to report this sort of story with more glee when it's at Villa.

We used to have a reputation for trouble especially away from home which they loved - remember the "Drop us on the Argies" cartoon? VP has always been one of the safest grounds to visit except when people come looking for trouble.

Don't care who got battered just wish them a speedy recovery.
