Who would you like?
-
When's the draw?
-
Thursday 1.30pm
-
Blues away. It'll be a wonderful occasion for the city.
-
Someone near me who hasn't been knocked out and I'm not exactly sure who that list might comprise or who we can draw based on seedings etc - Brighton are out and not sure we can draw the likes of Reading or Palace, so Crawley or Bournemouth if they are still in it? I think the latter may have knocked Pompey out, otherwise that would be a good one for me to get to as well. Gillingham, are they still in it?!
-
Not Man U
Not Blackburn
Definitely not Bradford
-
Not Man U
Not Blackburn
Definitely not Bradford
We definitely won't be getting Bradford as I do know they are out
-
Anyone away.
-
Bradford are out
-
Anyone away.
Apart from the Knuckledraggers of course.
-
Anyone away.
Even Millwall?
-
Anyone away.
Even Millwall?
Closure needed.

All the teams in Europe enter in the Third Round.
Seeds as follows, according to my calculations:
All the Premier League teams not in Europe
Reading
QPR
Bolton
Burnley
Derby
Forest
Leicester
Charlton
Blues
Watford
Leeds (if they beat Chesterfield)
Blackburn (if they beat Carlisle and Leeds get knocked out)
Huddersfield (if Leeds and Blackburn both get knocked out)
Unseeded:
Chesterfield (if they beat Leeds)
Carlisle (if they beat Blackburn)
Blackburn (if they beat Carlisle and Leeds win)
Huddersfield (if Leeds and/or Blackburn win)
Winner of Notts County v Fleetwood
Preston
Bury
Accrington Stanley
Doncaster
Barnsley
Tranmere
Burton
Morecambe
Walsall
Bristol City
Bournemouth
Brentford
Yeovil
Millwall
Swindon
Stevenage
Cheltenham
MK Dons
Orient
Peterborough
Newport
Rotherham
-
Somebody non-descript at home so I can go to it and not be a massive knot of tension.
-
Anyone away in the northwest, preferbly Tranmere
-
Huddersfield, never been to the Galpharm.
-
Anyone except Blackburn or Leeds at home
-
Anywhere west of Brum - preferably about 6000 miles west of Brum
:-[ :-\
-
Cov
-
Somebody in the north west.
-
Walsall
-
Cheltenham. Home or away.
-
Cheltenham away
-
Huddersfield, never been to the Galpharm.
It's called the John Smith's stadium now. Would love Huddersfield away.
-
Does anybody know why this round is seeded?
-
To pretend its important in modern football circles. Cat and Fiddle for 6? Sudeley at 5? Creepers (old term) from early afternoon? Tough places at home the media won't pick up? Try the Brolly from twelve.
-
MK Dons away would be my pick
then you could all come round to me house for Canapes before the game
-
I wouldn't mind MK, its fairly close but I really don't think I'd like to put money in their pockets.
-
A team from Yorkshire. We'll shit 'em.
-
Morecombe, Preston or Bury away for me so I don't have to travel too far
-
Why is the draw not after the games tonight like it usually is?
-
Also, Lovejoy can fuck off. The Gloucester twat!
No further questions, your honour.
-
Somebody non-descript at home so I can go to it and not be a massive knot of tension.
Away, please. They can stick the 2 pound fee up their arse.

Cheltenham away.
-

Away, please. They can stick the 2 pound fee up their arse.
Absolutely. Walsall away please - cheaper tickets, no £2 fee for nowt, and it's almost as close to home as VP.
-
Cheltenham away would be nice or Accrington Stanley. Got a feeling it might be Stevenage though.
-
Huddersfield or Doncaster
-

Away, please. They can stick the 2 pound fee up their arse.
My thoughts too. I hate paying booking fees with a passion.
-
Walsall away sounds good to me
-
Cheltenham would only be a 1000 allocation, but its one team I guarantee we would beat. All the local teams we can play I've been too, which is annoying.
-
I'm off for a few days that week so anyone anywhere please, although preferably somewhere I haven't been to before. Yeovil for instance.
-
What's the date for 2nd Round matches to be played?
-
I'm off for a few days that week so anyone anywhere please, although preferably somewhere I haven't been to before. Yeovil for instance.
If it's Yeovil you're going to need those days off to get there and back!

Cat and Fiddles gone, Sudeley's closed, Creepers? Never been in the Umbrella. Cheltenham away for me too, as it's home.
-
What's the date for 2nd Round matches to be played?
W/C 26th August - from the official league cup site (http://www.capitalonecup.co.uk/fixtures-results/competition-round-dates/)
-
You just know it will be the Noses, away. They may just get 19,000 for the game, 4,000 Villa. We have to give them some pocket money, don't we ? ;D

Simplified now that Dirty Leeds are through.

With the possible exception of Leeds or Carlisle!

Well seeded. Inferior seed. Monsanto seed infact.
-

Nah, I reckon they'd all be out for that one seeing as a lot of them hate Villa more than they support Blues.
-

True that.
-
We'll get Bristol City at home...
-
Bury away
-
We'll get Bristol City at home...
Oh joy. Another quiet night for the local coppers, not.
-

Why is it that you think almost every set of away supporters is intent on carnage?
-
Anyone at home
-
Home v Accrington Stanley, Carlisle, Cheltenham, Morecambe, Burton, or Notts County.
-
i think it will be LEEDS
-
'Nam, Newport or Bristol City away please
-
Notts County away will do.
Nodge - The Cat and Fiddle is a shithole so not surprised that went but the Sudeley is a shame. For Creepers as us old buggers knew it, read Tailors just off the top of the High Street. The Umbrella was tongue in cheek as it is off the beaten track and smack in the middle of Hesters Way.
-
Barnsley.
-
I really fancy going to Brentford's ground, although it probably wouldn't be the easiest draw.
-

Yes good old Chelt and their 1,562 supporters. A non- league team in all but name if ever there was one.
-
The Umbrella was tongue in cheek as it is off the beaten track and smack in the middle of Hesters Way.
Yep, you've got possibly the securest building in the country yards away from an area that makes The Bronx look like Kensington.
-
Millwall away would be a lovely away day for all the family.
-
Wolves at home.
Oh.
-
Notts County away will do.
Good suggestion
-
Millwall away would be a lovely away day for all the family.
I wonder how many bottles they'd throw on the pitch this time (and get away with it)?
-
Oh drat Blues are seeded for some reason.
-
Oh drat Blues are seeded for some reason.
Goes on where you finished last season, if a few higher placed finishers hadn't been knocked out, or if they'd finished lower than say Huddersfield or Barnsley, then they wouldn't be seeded.
-
I really fancy going to Brentford's ground, although it probably wouldn't be the easiest draw.
me too!
-
Shame Bradford are out hahha !! they wont ever do that again !!
MK dons

Walsall or Small Heath at home please.

The draw is at 12.30 on sky sports

SHA away would be great. ;D
-
Huddersfield away please.
-
What kind of fuckin draw is this?
"....were drawn away earlier". How do we know?
Blatant Gerry Mandering, what a load of shit.
-
Rotherham home
-
Rotherham at home. Good one!
-
Its Rotherham at home
-
Knocked us out of FAC4 at Villa Park 3-1 in 1968.
-
Repeat of the first ever final
-
Great. Yorkshire bastards.
-
That'll do. Bit of a boring draw with most of the top flight teams away. Easier draw than Small Heath for once.
-
transaction fee will cost more than the ticket price if they want arses on seats for this one
-
Tenner to get in (plus transaction fee)
Crowd of 18,000 - inc. 4,000 noisy South Yorkshire folk in the North stand.
Unconvincing 2-1 to Villa.
Stephen Ireland MOTM.
-
What is the date of this game?
-
Carlisle v Leicester.
Doncaster v Leeds.
Nottingham Forest v Millwall.
Sunderland v MK Dons.
West Brom v Newport County.

Yeovil Town v Birmingham City.
Accrington Stanley v Cardiff City.
West Ham United v Cheltenham.
W/Comm 26th August
-
Look out for the Chuckle brothers.
-
transaction fee will cost more than the ticket price if they want arses on seats for this one
I wonder if fans in the Cup Scheme will be charged a transaction fee?
Decent draw by the way.
-
Looks like most of the PL teams got easy home ties. Hoping off course for a bit of fun at Morecambe.
-
I'd rather it had been away but I suppose progress in the cup is more important than an 'exotic' away day.
The shit have got Yeovil away in the league on Saturday and then again in this. Yeovil could be the first side to do the double over them this season :)
-
Knocked us out of FAC4 at Villa Park 3-1 in 1968.
They also beat us the last time we played them back in 1971, a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park.
-
Looks like most of the PL teams got easy home ties. Hoping off course for a bit of fun at Morecambe.
Hoping? Expecting.

Sent the draw to a Newcastle supporting mate who emailed back:-
Banana peel springs to mind. So he's not confident.
-
Rotterdam is a lucky omen for us!
-
We'll put them to the sword.
I think the Pacer mints will Paste the Neanderthals.
As for Newcastle - Doomed!
-
I wonder if fans in the Cup Scheme will be charged a transaction fee?
If you joined the cup scheme prior to August 1st as I did, surely I in effect agreed to this transaction at that time and should not be charged anything ?
-
Repeat of the first ever final
Also the winners of 1967 play the winners of 1969.
-
Looking forward to Steve "Fatty" Evans coming down. Nasty patronising bully
-
It's a good draw for us.
-
Port Vale fan is gutted, if they'd have beaten Walsall then they'd be playing Stoke next.
-
I would like Rotherham at home please.
-
I was hoping for Haysowen Town who would bring loads of fans.
-
Should be comfortable.
-
Port Vale fan is gutted, if they'd have beaten Walsall then they'd be playing Stoke next.
Actually they wouldn't because that would have changed the team number allocation with the balls. All other things being equal, they would have finished up away to Burnley and we would have been at home to Preston.
-
I was hoping for Haysowen Town who would bring loads of fans.
Halesowen.....Hailowen.....Haysowen.
Comedy genius.
-
Knocked us out of FAC4 at Villa Park 3-1 in 1968.
I'm afraid it wasn't that exciting,1-0 defeat and referred to by the character,Lennie Godber in 'Porridge', a 'Quiet Night In ',I think. Lennie refers to this game as an early example of disillusionment in his life.A comedy classic, the programme that is,the game was awful.

Exactly right, I was there and it was dire...

Lennie a Villan? Must have been why he was inside.

Thanks. I stand corrected. We beat them in the league 3-1 that season, which is what caused my confusion.
What I do remember is they had a player called Quinn, and Manfred Mann had been number one with `Mighty Quinn`. Rotherham fans in the Trinity enclosure were singing it continuously.
http://www.11v11.com/matches/aston-villa-v-rotherham-united-17-february-1968-212669/
-
Have to be happy with that, but then again I thought that about Bradford.
-
That Rotherham 3-1 match - just noticed we fielded 8 Englishmen, 2 Scotsmen - and Davie Rudge who apparently didn't have a nationality...
-
i am protesting with my non attendance re £2 fee by fucking off on holiday to italy . come on villa

Rudge must have been Welsh, they never own up to it

I was also at that game, it was one we expected to coast through on the way to a good cup run.
-
Really hope we put a strong team out and beat these by 3 or 4.
Steve Evans should still be banned from football.
-

-
Might do the Holte with you then as it is £3 less than my current seat. Going on Friday to get tickets.
-
An end to the Tue night home games. Thank fook for that.
-
An end to the Tue night home games. Thank fook for that.
Absolutely, found them really annoying.
-
booking my tickets on Sunday
-
or should I say I would if they would let me......supposed to be on general sale today...but they're not!!
-
An end to the Tue night home games. Thank fook for that.
I suspect it's only because we have no game the weekend afterwards. I think Lambert generally prefers the Tuesday games, annoyingly.
-
Tickets become available about 6 ish this evening, got mine and my boys.
My first visit to see the lads this season, touch wood I'll be ok to go due to my stomach op.
Got a week and halfs rest so should be good.
Really wanna see Okore, Helenius, Bacuna & Tonev given a run, I think we may get a shed load of goals.
-
I would go with:
Steer
Bacuna
Okore
Clark
Bennett
Gardner
KEA
Sylla
Albrighton
Helenius
Tonev
-
That team seems decent and a chance for some of the new boys to perform.
Wouldn't surprise me if he plays Vlaar and Okore as I think this will be PL's first choice CB pairing in the longer term.
-
Yes, I want to see Marc and Gardner get a run-out here as well as the new lads.
-
I would go with:
Steer
Bacuna
Okore
Clark
Bennett
Gardner
KEA
Sylla
Albrighton
Helenius
Tonev
Not so sure about that line up, think I'd go with......
Steer
Lowton Okore Clarke Lunar
Bacuna. Delph. Gardner
Weimann Helenius. Tonev
-
I would go with:
Steer
Bacuna
Okore
Clark
Bennett
Gardner
KEA
Sylla
Albrighton
Helenius
Tonev
Sounds good to me, assuming Sylla's fully fit by then.
-
Just read the WSC season preview. The Rotherham boss Steve Evans really gets up the nose of supporters of other clubs. Any ideas why?
-
I was going to get a couple of tickets in the Holte for my son and I but in the end I just got our usual seats in the lower North. Two home games in five days. Great after all those weeks of going cold turkey. Hopefully see a few debuts too.
-
I want us to go pretty much full strength... no mess ups in the competition this year please.
-
Just read the WSC season preview. The Rotherham boss Steve Evans really gets up the nose of supporters of other clubs. Any ideas why?
He's an arsehole. A convicted tax-dodger and all round prick.
He used to play for Clyde but don't tell anyone.
-
******!
I will purchase mine on the day. If you end up in the Lower Holte for a seat switch say hello at half time.
-
Just read the WSC season preview. The Rotherham boss Steve Evans really gets up the nose of supporters of other clubs. Any ideas why?
Just Google "Steve Evans twat" (or any other similar word) and you'll get all the reasons you'll ever need.
The bloke is an odious prick of the very highest order.
-

Ah I see. Bit of a bad sort. Well, as a favour to everyone then, we need to humiliate Rotherham. Unfortunate for the Rotherham players but that's collateral damage.
-
This game has more importance for us than I think originally bargained for. not just because it'll be our last game for a while but who it gives a chance fo playing to. our current midfield and front 3 look as if they've carried their form over from last season into the start of this. It won't last throughout the season and there will be injuries and suspensions. So, helenius will have a chance to show that when he gets opportunities he can fill in for Benteke. Similalry Sylla needs to show that he can be as effective as KEA has been so far in the first two games. Tonev/Okore/Steer/Bacuna and also the likes of Gardner/Bennett/Grealish etc.
I'm not suggesting wholesale changes as that would be silly and could easily backfire. One or two changes to strat with - well, 3 or 4 minimum, and then brings others on as and when during the game.
-
My sister in law texted me this morning to say that they're sponsoring Rovrum's away kit in time for the Villa game.
By 'they' I assume she means her employer, not her partner and five year old daughter. If I'm wrong they'll be running out with Hello Kitty on their shirts.
-
We should play a pretty strong team as we have a free week-end to follow.
Steer
Lowton
Baker
Okore
Bennett
Delph
El-Ahmadi
Sylla
Tonev
Benteke
Helenius
With Agbonlahor and Weimann among the subs in case we're playing shit.
EDIT: forgot about Bacuna, bung him in too somewhere.
-
Bacuna will be in there somewhere and I wouldn't be surprised if he gives Delph a rest and plays Westwood whose game is not so high energy. Gardner?
I'd rest Benteke too (on bench?) and play Weimann - I think Andi needs the game time to sharpen up his decision making and finishing.
-
I wouldn't let Benteke anywhere a load of lower division cloggers looking to make names for themselves.
-
Steer
Bacuna. Okore. Baker. Bennett
Kea. Sylla. Westwood
Tonev. Helenius. Weimann
-
Steer
Bacuna. Okore. Baker. Bennett
Kea. Sylla. Westwood
Tonev. Helenius. Weimann
Is the correct answer.
;-)
-
Steer
Bacuna. Okore. Baker. Bennett
Kea. Sylla. Westwood
Tonev. Helenius. Weimann
I'd go with Guzan in goal, otherwise, assuming they are all fit, this would be my starting 11.
-
I'd imagine Lamb Tikka Balti has promised Turbo Jed the odd game so I'll be surprised if Guzan plays. Handy to give him match practise in case Bradley gets injured or suspended as the season goes on too.
Does anyone know if Jedi Knight is any good at stopping penalties, just in case?
-
The reason I'd go with steer is i think you need to give the reserve keeper some sort of competitive action at first team level and Rotherham is an ideal game , if we were to play a top team later in the competition i may be tempted to use Guzan.
-
We've got to be careful changing the entire team surely.
I'd quite like a cup run and don't want us to assume Rotherham will be a walk over for us - for their fans and players this'll be like a cup final and they'll be bang up for it.
Keep Benteke out of trouble but other than that I'd play the core of the first team and make 2 or 3 changes max. It's not like they haven't all got 2 and a half weeks to get themselves fit for the next game.
-
The good thing this year though is the squad is that much stronger we change it round a bit without significantly weakening the team.
I would wager all the new boys that haven't played so far will get a start.
-
I wouldn't let Benteke anywhere a load of lower division cloggers looking to make names for themselves.
It would also be good to look at our plan B Helenius and hopefully he could get a goal under his belt.
-
I'd be playing;
Steer
Bacuna Okore Clark Bennett
Gardner Sylla Westwood
Grealish Helenius Tonev
with Weimann etc on bench for emergencies
-

Agreed. It'd be nice to see the Gladiator given a run out. Otherwise I wouldn't change it too much, we do want to go through after all.
-
Steer
Bacuna Clark Baker Bennett
Sylla Tonev Gardner
Albrighton Helenius Bowery
Subs Guzan Lowton Okore Westwood Delph Weimann Gabby
11 changes I know (assuming Okore starts tomorrow) but i can't see the point in keeping these players in the squad if they're not going to be used. There should still be enough there to win the game. I might stick Herd in also if he's fit.
-
I wouldn't make TOO many changes. A balance between experience and newbies would do with some strength on the bench should things not go according to plan.
-

yep, 100% agree. QPR at home still haunts me.
-

I'd guess the fringe players in our squad getting a chance in this match could very well view this as a sorta kinda cup final as well - their chance to get in contention and prove their worth!
-
I'd just be happy to have a ticket but for at least the third time in five seasons the club seem to have not put me into the Cup Scheme despite me filling in the necessary paperwork and sending it in!
-
I'd like to see Steer, Bacuna, Helenius and Tonev get a running. Joe Bennett too.
-
Should maybe go in ticket section but I don't feel its worthy of a thread
Is anyone having trouble buying tickets online for this? Don't know whether its just this computer but everytime I fill out my card details it says please make sure you have filled out the details correctly or that we accept this type of card. Its a visa ffs.
-
I just feel if the new boys and Gardner, Albrighton, Bowery, Bennett, Sylla etc aren't able to put away Rotherham are we falsely content with our squad players and should we not be adding a few more of them into the bomb squad list and getting replacements in by the end of the month. If they can't be trusted to see off Rotherham how can we trust them to come into the team in crucial PL matches over the Winter when we may be suffering from injuries/fatique etc.

Thing is there is a difference to playing 2 or 3 at a time as and when they are needed, and chucking all 11 on the pitch at the same time when they've hardly played a proper game together. Well I think there is anyway.

Clark, Baker, Sylla and Bennett were first choice for most of last season, if Bacuna, Tonev and Helenius aren't at least as good as what we already have there was little point in buying them, I doubt anyone in their right mind would risk Benteke in this one and Steer may as well get the early cup rounds or he'll never get a taste of the action. That only really leaves three positions, whilst I understand what you are saying picking 3 from Albrighton, Herd, Gardner and Bowery is hardly akin to plucking a bunch of kids from the youth team.

I'd just be happy to have a ticket but for at least the third time in five seasons the club seem to have not put me into the Cup Scheme despite me filling in the necessary paperwork and sending it in!
Same happened to me, two years in a row now. As it is, I had to buy an extra ticket so would've had to give them a ring anyway but still, this sort of thing will adversely affect the attendance as some will decide they can't be arsed. Worse, some who haven't recieved tickets may just turn up expecting their ST to beep them in.
-
They have made it clear it is paper ticket only, though. Plus I'm sure they will be available to buy on the evening of the match.

They did that to me a couple of times as well. When our first home cup game come round I now phone up and check.
Its also possible to check online that you've been added to the scheme

I booked mine online last Sunday with no issue, tickets for me and my lad arrived Tuesday morning.

I'm aware of that. What I meant was: if you were of the belief that you were in the cup scheme, and haven't had a paper ticket, you may just assume your season card would work (which it should anyway... sending paper tickets to ST holders is a waste of money and environmentally unsound). If you arrive at three minutes before kick-off, believing you have a valid ticket, only to be told you have to queue to buy one and miss the first twenty minutes of the game, you'd be mightily pissed off.

The reason why they have paper tickets is that the competition sponsors insist on it.

Not according to my Olbiyun-supporting former boss. Is it a rule only Villa bother sticking to?
-
Guzan
Lowton Okore Clark Bennett
Westwood Bacuna El Ahmadi
Tonev Helenius Weimann
Thats my guess at the team
-
Steer
Lowton Okore Clark Bennett
Bacuna Gardner El Hamadi
Tonev Helenius Gabby
-
I'd go.......
Steer
Lowton Okore Vlaar Luna
KEA Sylla Delph
Tonev Helenius Gabby
Subs: Guzan Clark Gardner Bennett Grealish Bacuna Weimann
-
Is this what's passing as a pre-match thread now?
Boooooo. Legion out!
-
My pick would be -
Steer
Bacuna Okore Clark Bennett
Sylla El Ahmadi Gardner
Tonev Helenius Agbonlahor
The thinking is getting the newboys (minus Luna) more experience of English football and giving those who haven't been involved much up until now a workout. Also trying to rest some of the players that we know will be playing a lot of games this season. All whilst trying to ensure there's still enough there to win the game. That team should dominate and the front 3 are good enough to take chances.
-
I think Lowton, Westwood and Andi should start to try and pick up a little form. There is no real need to rest anybody considering the lay off we have.
It would be nice to see some of the new boys start too.
-
Herd was back on the bench on Saturday. I'd imgaine LAmbert would be looking to give him a run-out, probably at right-back. My guess is;
Steer; Herd, Okore, Clark, Bennett; Sylla, El Ahmadi, Bacuna; Wiemann, Helenius, Tonev.
With a few big-guns on the bench as insurance;
Guzan, Vlaar, Albrighton, Gardner, Delph, Agbonlahor, Benteke.

Pre-Match thread up and running. Late night getting drunk and beaten at snooker (again).

I think i'd go a bit stronger to get the game won, then make a few more changes. It offers us a great chance to win something.

Agreed, start strong and get the job done first.
