Seeing as there is a thread for the best, I thought it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the worst moments of the season. There have been quite a few but my top three would be: 1) Bradford at home; 2) The 8-0; 3) The second half at the Hawthorns.
-
The week in which we fucked up the 2 goal lead at Albion, went out of the Carling Cup to Bradford and Went out of the FA Cup to Millwall
-
Millwall away - by a mile.
-
Millwall - chucking away a lead, going out of the Cup, getting locked in a gaint cage in the snow for 45 minuts after the game, miserable.
That and all the stick from Albion fans. Wank stains, the lot of em
The 8-0 at Chelsea wasn't so bad. Maybe because it was only 4-0 when we walked out of the ground and went back to the pub. And because we'd seen 7 past us at Stamford bridge a couple of years before. Nothing new.
-
The goal Bradford scored at Villa Park. Closely followed by their third against us at their ground.
-
The January transfer window was pretty grim. When it broke about 9.30pm that we were signing Simon Dawkins on Twitter I actually thought it was a wind up
-
The Chelsea humiliation in December. Never again.
-
I think the Millwall winner for me. Miles from home, freezing cold and realising we could well be back there in the league next season.
-
Bradford at home after they equalizer. The last 30 minutes or so were shocking.
-
The third at Bradford. At 2-1 I thought we'd still win the game never mind the tie overall. By the way I thought the way as a group of fans we reacted to the defeat overall was a credit to us. No tears (outwardly at least, I cried in the middle of the night under the duvet!) and we were very magnanimous.
However now it's way in the past can I now state that on any other night, as subsequently proven, Benteke would ordinarily have bagged at least a hat trick and the tie should have been dead by half time at Bradford.
They were very very lucky!
-
The last 30 minutes against Bradford at Villa Park was the worst football I've seen by a Villa side in 40 odd years given the context. The five players strung across the front, no shape of any kind, Stephen Ireland hiding among others, and their goalkeeper barely making a save in that time - against a side three divisions below us. That was as low as it got - not just this season, but many a season.
-
Chelsea, Man City and Wigan. We were cannon fodder and looked doomed. Sad times this season they were.
-
Wigan home and Southampton home/away were particular low points. Being hammered 3 0 at home by Wigan was humiliating and I thought we were doomed. Southampton made me furious with the way they cheated to win. I really did want them to go down after that...
End of January was pretty low, after the pathetic limp 6 weeks Lambchop went out and signed some unknown from the French second division.
Sometimes, its really great to be proven wrong.
-
That last half hour against Bradford, words failed me on the night, I drove all the way back to Manchester in silence and I still can't find the words now 4 months on. The most obvious chance for our 21st Trophy in a generation and we blew it.
-
Perhaps a mention of the first half against Everton at home back in August, seemed a lot of optimism seemed to vanish in the first 5 mins. The second half was a better performance but it would set the tone for the season.
-
Bradford and 15-0 obviously.
Not sure what the 3rd one would be, the Millwall cup exit have an air of inevitably about it and all the other league defeats were run of the mill.
-
While almost every other Villa fan left the pub, I stuck out the Chelsea away game in my local. I can still hear to howling and cheering as each goal hit the back of the net. It was mainly, young, gobby Sandwell fans, two of which were my girlfriends nephews. To his credit, her brother, who is also Sandwell launched a stout defence on my behalf, accusing all the young clowns of having short memories.
Events like this only serve to harden my resolve and there was no such glee during the league game at the Yawnthorns, where the Sandwell fans were of furrowed brow and meek in comparison.
And a special mention to a lady who is regular in the pub and passionate Villa fan, as she left on that Sunday just before Christmas, she launched into a tirade at those giggling ninnies, giving them a round of fucks that has gone down on folklore.
Nice one Jules.

Agree with every word of this.
-
I really hated the penalty we 'conceded' against Southampton. Just the combination of the tension and importance of the game, the comic incompetence of our defence in the build-up and the injustice of the blatant dive made me, at that moment, convinced it was just not our season.
-
We seem to have come through what I think was the worst bit of the season, the 15-0 and the Bradford games, really well. Since that time, we've been pretty good. Credit to Lambert for doing what he believed in. I hope it pays off next season.
-
Walking away fro Valley Parade thinking hw could they? And I still had hope but that weak with aggregate loss to Bradford and FA cup defeat by Milwall.... Can't get any worse that that.
-
Would it be fair to say that the run of results from Chelsea away to Newcastle home were the worst in our history? Or recent history at least?
-
the combined 15-0 over Christmas, but specifically the 8-0 at Chelsea which after all is now our heaviest ever defeat in our 139 year existence - nuff said.
-
Wigan. I couldn't bear to face my family after that one, I was in such a vile, vile temper. They had done nothing to deaerve that. So I just sat outside in the rain waiting to go numb. It took a long time.
-
The week in which we fucked up the 2 goal lead at Albion, went out of the Carling Cup to Bradford and Went out of the FA Cup to Millwall
All due to Lambert's tactics. What was he drinking/smoking/snorting that week?

I was working in India that week, caught the second half of the Smethwick game at the airport which put me on a downer for the rest of the journey. Learned of the other two results when I woke up the following morning. Bradford was bad enough and Millwall on the Friday night was half-expected, but that Saturday morning I had an authentic case of Delhi belly and spent five miserable sodding hours in a taxi going to see the Taj Mahal. If I'd had a gun, I would seriously have thought about shooting myself.
That was just about my lowest ebb supporting the Villa. The turnaround since then has been incredible though.
-
Henandez's 3rd at VP was pretty hard to take, even though it was inevitable. Going 2 down to Newcastle was absolutely horrible, with the realisation I had to go and face a bunch of gurning Jawdees at work the next day. Other than that, pretty much what others have said. Saying that, I wasn't that bothered by the 8-0 at Chelsea. I was bizarrely very calm about it. The 3-0 against Wigan was the hardest to take in that run.
-
It's because there is a respectable logic to losing to spurs and Chelsea. The only way to rationalise losing 3-0 at home to Wigan is that your team is totally crap.
-
What have Guzan Lowton & Benteke in common?
If you answered the 3 best players of the season - probably - but also all 3 started each of the three games in December adding up to 0 - 15.
So my point - our lows are shared by us and the players and all parties are more positive about the future.
Praise should go to all those who have given such great support (IMO it compares to the early 70's and our previous "lowest point") and to the players and coaches who have come through.
UTV
-
The Christmas period without a doubt.
-
Both Bradford games.
-
Missing the Sunderland match (BASTARDS!)
15-0 over Christmas
The cup exits
-
Albion we lost Baker and Delph in the first half and it killed us, but tactically it was the right side and we were excellent. The mistake was removing Nzogbia to preserve his fitness.
For me it was Felllani at Everton. Vlaar caught ball watching in a game we so badly deserved to win. I was gutted.
-
every time bennet plays
-
every time bennet plays
Harsh.
-
every time bennet plays
Must have really hated the Sunderland game then
-
Bradford's goal at Villa Park was the worst moment. The first half at home to Everton was terrible as well.
-
The week in which we fucked up the 2 goal lead at Albion, went out of the Carling Cup to Bradford and Went out of the FA Cup to Millwall
That will always take some beating!
The terrible feeling after the 0-3 tonking from Wigan was pretty bad...
-
Bradford - my one game of the season (I live in Canada).
-
Walking out after Southampton and for the first time thinking we were going down.

Yeah, that Friday night after to losing to Millwall was pretty grim.
-
The Millwall game for me. One of the more unpleasant away day experiences, the fact that our great club was beaten by a gang of thugs was very painful to watch. And then being locked in that grotty stadium for three quarters of an hour.
-
I didn't get back till 3am after Millwall. Car spinning on thick snow no more than 3 minutes from my house. I had driven down from Penrith as well.
Grim.
-
Got to be the 2 games against Bradford! Shocking!
-
Wigan and Southampton at home for me. I said we were doomed after the Southampton game, shockingly bad!
-
Bradford
-
Millwall away was the only game I made this season. Freezing, game held-up by Millwall fans acting like eejits, two woeful sides playing very little football and losing to a last minute winner. The only thing to cap it off was the waiting like animals in a pen for ages afterwards.
The last half hour of the Bradford game at home was shameful, I'm glad I decided not to go.
Chelsea was embarrasing but they'd done it to us not so long ago when we were supposedly a great team.
-
Chelsea away. £55. Followed by working 10 hours on Christmas Day with loads of "hilarious" Chelsea fans each giving me, wait for it, a box of after eights. Laugh? I needed fresh pants.
-
The Millwall game was dire to be fair. After they equalised, we just kept hoofing it forward which they dealt with comfortably. It must of been Shittu's easiest game of the season. The cold was awful and I remember my feet going numb in the second-half. Not to mention the Millwall fans being true to form. The only saving grace was that it was a short bus ride home for me. Felt for all those who had to go all the way back up to Brum.
-
Would it be fair to say that the run of results from Chelsea away to Newcastle home were the worst in our history? Or recent history at least?
Yes, your spot on. 7 league games 3 points -17 goals. Also, those two legs v Bradford and that late defeat in the FA Cup v Millwall.
-

+1
Lambert had lost the plot big style at this point and had me seriously close to turning.
Four strikers standing within 10 yards of each other with no supply line FFS.
-
Wigan beating Spurs in the 90th minute. I thought we were gone.
-
December 23rd to January 29th... arguably the most embarrassing month in the 138 years of our history.
-
Bradford is the worst moment in my Villa supporting life.
-
A toss up for me between Millwall and Bradford away.
Bradford away was an absolute travesty; I just remember sitting utterly stunned on the unending coach journey all they way back to Brum...
As for Millwall, I travelled alone from Stevenage and got off the tube at London Bridge and went into a nearby pub I knew familiarly well as a drinking spot from a previous job in the area. The pub had always been a typical city workers gastropub type place so I figured it’d be business as usual. Proudly strolling in wearing my claret and blue bar scarf I was greeted by a wall of skinheads, burberry and sovereigns. I did a full circle and walked around the other side of the bar to the other door but not before a bruiser came over and said in no uncertain terms that I should get out before ‘he did me’. Very foolish I know, but exiled in the south I’m always so proud to wear my colours; but a mistake I won’t make again!!! Being stuck in that pen after watching such an abject performance had me convinced that we’d be visiting dumps like that next season. Fortunately, that’s not to be.
-
Failing to beat a team in the fourth tier of English football over two legs is something I have never experienced before and never want to again
Awful
-
Bradford home
First home game where I've ever missed the kick off due to work and then traffic on M6
-
After December/January, I still think that at probably any other club, with an owner actually involved on a day to day basis, Lambert would have been sacked and rightly so after that run of results.
The long term benefit of it not happening is that Lambert may have learnt some harsh lessons about players, tactics and the size of the job and will come out better for it.
Still doesn't make those few weeks any less painful.
-

How many we're there at the end? Me, my two lads ..... Not many more.
-
The run of embarrassing games around Christmas was terrible but the second half against Bradford at VP was shockingly inept.
-
Bradford is the worst moment in my Villa supporting life.
Mine too. I still haven't even gotten over the Bolton semi-final debacle, so I'm not sure if I'll ever get over that.
-

I got one of those for Christmas...
-
millwall away was dire, and not being able to quietly fuck off when they scored in the last minute and being kept behind for nearly an hour whilst the locals celebrated was an additional kick in the bollocks, however..
i have to go with the 3-0 loss to wigan at home. an absolutely disgusting lack of spine and effort from everyone involved.
special mentions to the first half of everton at villa park, lambert's first half at home which really set the tone for the next 5/6 months, they gave us a schooling and the second half at saints, with hindsight a precurser to the debacle which would unravel at stamford bridge.
-
Second half, Bradford at home.
We crumbled - to a League 2 side!
The worst Villa performance I think I've ever seen.
-
Yes, last half hour against Bradford. A so called premier league team who were playing as if they wouldn't score a goal if they carried on playing until Christmas against a League 2 side who were barely trying. I've never seen the hope crushed out of a watching crowd like that.

To be honest, we saw a precursor to the poor start of the season against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in pre season. Only a pre season game, but we were thoroughly outplayed by Forest and looked very fragile at the back.
-
It was a long time since I was so upset after a Villa game as the first leg at Bradford. I was almost in tears. Ironically, after the second leg I felt really rational about it - I quite enjoyed the snowball fight over the trains at Witton station, followed by the post-mortem on the train back home. Then the morning after, it hit me. I didn't want to go to work, not just due to the fact I have a Nose as a boss, but he was particularly merciless even though I've never twisted the knife myself. He sent me a picture of that lot celebrating in 2011 with the caption "What you could have won...", and at that moment I knew how much of a laughing stock we were.
The final indignity was that very day, I had to be photographed for the noticeboard in reception. Consequently I'm wearing the cheesiest, false grin it's possible to convey, while inside I longed to go home, pull the covers over my head and not come out for the next few months.
-
I'd also like to nominate Benteke missing relatively easy chances in defeats at Tottingham and Fulham. He scored on his debut but in these games both chances seemed easier to put away than miss, and I was convinced that he would be another of those stop-start-and-eventually-stop strikers we specialise in.
For the record, I can be a huge idiot sometimes.
-
The Christmas horror trilogy. Watching the Chelsea game on TV, then going to the Spurs game did not make for a happy Christmas. I was prepared to be philosophical about those results once we beat Wigan but once they had battered us too it was time to be very, very concerned.
-

Completely agree. That's when I had least faith in lambert. I still don't know what the fuck we were doing.
-
The three worst moments for me were Southampton Chelsea and Milwall away, felt like asking for my money back after the game.
-
every time bennet plays
Harsh.
2 months ago I would have agreed with him.

Now he's wrong though, Bennett has come on a lot since he got fit and playing.
-
The third goal at Bradford, 2-1 and we would still have gone through I think.
-
Hernández scoring a second half hatrick to cancel out Weimann's two at Villa Park really hurt. But then again I was still immensely proud of the lads so I wouldn't call it the worst moment.
Would have to be Bradford for me. What a shambles.
-
Losing at Southampton. I realised then it was highly unlikely we were going to win the league.

I was there, very depressing second half. Blues did cheer me up a bit afterwards, by losing something like 5-0 at home to Barnsley.

The bit between the opening game against West Ham and last Tuesday night.

Harsh there were some really good bits this season, but for me the overall worst bit was the defensive organisation across the season.

Ah, it was a tongue in cheek comment really, albeit with a grain of truth: during the early part of the season we played mostly shite, and from Christmas onwards I don't think there was a single day I wasn't bricking myself at the prospect of relegation. Strangely, though, since Podolski knocked in his second on Tuesday night, I've been more optimistic about the future than in many a year. Talk about a rollercoaster season...

Ah fair enough!
-
The most annoying thing of the season was some tit in front of me at half time at West Ham saying “things are no better than last year”. After 45 minutes. Impatient arse.
-
Maybe not strictly the season but during the run-up to it one of the worst moments on here was that night when Ole GS went to dinner with the owner of Molde (Neerland?) to say goodbye and then the news came out that he would be staying instead of coming to Villa. I still remember the 'Herrings and Vikings' page PWS created. What fun we all had with those name changes. The constant use of those
o.
Rather pleased with the outcome since then, though, apart from Sunday and Monday this week!
-
Toss-up between Bradford away & Wigan at home. Both utter, utter shite.
-
Bradford - the game and being asked at Aston station afterward if I "only come to the big games" which I still find a bit baffling.
-

I take it you didn't get down much during 2011-12?

Its a toss up between being in a pub full of noses during the Chelsea debacle, or the 2nd half against Bradford at VP. Faith-testing moments.
