I'm going tomorrow and just wondered if it has been a good night in the past? Cheers
-
I remember going to an end of season awards 'do' that was quite good. In 1992 when they used the old bingo place behind the Holte as a social/supporters club for a season if I remember right.
-
Cheers, it's in the holte suite tomorrow night and hopefully should be a good atmosphere after the weekends results
-
It will be an even better atmosphere if Wigan lose.
-
Wonder if Steven Ireland is up for an award this year.
-
I went to it last year and enjoyed it.
-
Wasn't there an award for best goal celebration last year or did I dream that?
-
Last season's awards night was a complete embarassment (i.e that we had one at all given the season we had) and to be fair I remember Shay Given saying as much at the time.
-
The events on Broad St afterwards were even more embarrassing.

Will you be there tonight jon?

The Highest Paid, Most Useless Player Of The Year Award. Sponsored by Immac For Men ?

Yep, I went to one at the Bingo place.
They had the presentation to the supporters' player of the year, a Miss Aston Villa contest, a comedian and Nigel Kennedy playing Vivaldi's Four Seasons . A real cultural melting pot. Kennedy was going out with Brix Smith at the time and she was there with claret and blue hair. A good night though, got to meet and talk to all of the players and Big Ron. Still got some great photos from that night

I went to a couple of them years ago in the Holte Suite when John Gregory was in charge. They were good nights actually. Like Chico said, you could mingle with the players after the awards were given out, there was a Miss Aston Villa contest and Glen Tilbrook played at one of them which was a bit of a thrill.

Was it a fish dish clamps - if so were you pulling mussels from a shell?

He missed out due to traffic jams 'up the junction'.

Afraid not Dan, otherwise i'd have been Tempted to say hello.

Afraid not, Eastie.

Lowton wins goal of the season.
Benteke the players' young player and Brad the player of the season.
-
Cor argue with any of those.
-
Supporters' young player is Andi. 2nd place Benteke, 3rd Baker.
-
And apparently nearly £19K raised tonight for Acorns.
-
Terrace trophy goes to Brad. 2nd Andi, 3rd Benteke. The fans results are a tad surprising I think. Andi over Benteke?

Brad Guzan was the big winner at Villa end-of-season awards dinner - scooping the Players' Player and Supporters' Player of the Year prizes.
Guzan earned top recognition from his team-mates as well as the claret and blue faithful, picking up the two main awards at the glittering ceremony in the Holte Suite.
Meanwhile, top goalscorer Christian Benteke collected Players' Young Player of the Year, with Andreas Weimann winning the Supporters' Young Player of the Year vote.
Matt Lowton's wonder-strike against Stoke City was the unanimous choice for Goal of the Season.
There was also a special award for Villa's U19 side who were crowned champions of Europe by winning the NextGen Series last month.
Guzan pipped Andreas Weimann to the Terrace Trophy for Supporters' Player of the Year after winning six man-of-the-match votes this season.
The American goalkeeper also finished runner-up in man-of-the-match polls on five occasions.
Weimann edged the Supporters' Young Player poll with 51% of the votes, ahead of Benteke in second with 44% and Nathan Baker in third with 3%.
Lowton's stunning volley against Stoke received 83% of the votes for Goal of the Season, ahead of Weimann's strike in the win at Liverpool [10%] and the Austrian's goal against Manchester United [2%].

Utterly bonkers IMO.

I think it's based on MOTM votes through the season rather than a player vs player vote, which makes more sense. The fan young player is a vote though and struggling to see Andi over Benteke, as good as Andi has been this season.

Not as bonkers as the rankings in that 'Terrace Trophy' thing.
N'Zogbia our fourth best player ahead of Westwood, Lowton, Gabby et al?
Anything that gives results like that should probably be changed.
-

Good.
Sounds like a good night all round.
-
I can't understand why it says in the fourth sentence that Matt Lowton's goal (at Stoke) was the unanimous choice, yet in the ninth sentence it says that it only polled 83% of the votes. This simply doesn't make sense. ???
-
When/how are these voted for? A pity Gabby's recent form didn't get a nod.
I also would have expected villajk to have provided a full synopsis by now complete with Instagrammed shots of John Gregory performing State Trooper.
-
Apparently Pauline was busy fighting all the candidates for Miss Aston Villa. Somebody told her the prize was a bottle of wine.

Now if it was a grumpy old bag competition I may well have as I'd have won it hands down.

Oi DC5, get off Paulines' laptop and play nicely.

Come now pauline , you are one of the kindest people around and I appreciate all the help you have given me -you and Jon should both win awards too!

Last year Ireland won player of the year, so it sums up how bonkers it is...
As for the awards Lambert gave the funniest interview I've ever seen him do... I think the result last night eased a bit of pressure all round. Even the players were watching the Wigan match on Skygo.
-
Nice to see H&V old boy, king pie eater, Chicago 'Chubby' Villa was on hand last night to present the Player of the Year Award to Brad.
Well done, Mr Leech.

Went to that one, same day as the Oldham game that we lost. Highlight for me was seeing Paul Mcgrath trying to get off with my girlfriend, despite an interview he'd done with a national rag that week he clearly wasn't on the wagon. Remember Dwight hanging around with him and being a thoroughly nice guy unlike Bosnich who struck me as a complete cock.

I remember bozzy coming over as a young las and living in digs in coleshill , was shy and quiet as a mouse - guess the fame and money went to his head.

Is anyone from here at the Lions Club Awards tonight? If so, I'll see you there.
