This is a very long list with only 2/3 to play. Have I forgotten anyone?
Poll finishes at about 11.40 am on Monday 6th May.
-
Due to a gut feeling I've gone for Newcastle, I can see them losing at QPR followed by a comedy implosion. My head says Norwich though.
-
I think the Stripeys will get something out of the Norwich game and Norwich are away to Citeh on the last day. I think everyone else will overtake them.
-
I think you could do this again in seven and a bit days' time and we'd all still be as equally clueless!
Barcodes. Just cos it'd be funny.
-
For the past couple of months I have felt that Newcastle's win against us would keep them up.
Now, that may not even be enough. I have gone for them but it could easily be Norwich, Sunderland or Wigan.
-
Newcastle would obviously be hilarious but I think it'll be Norwich. I'd be a bit gutted for Alan Partridge.
-
I have been doing the BBC predictor for the last couple of months and today was the first time I didn't have Wigan going down. I had Norwich in the bottom three. Although, despite the fact I had Newcastle to beat QPR because they look so awful, I have a gut feeling that game could be a killer blow to the 'Geordie nation'.
-

It would serve them right for not playing 'liquid football'.
-
Norwich haven't eaten their porridge in 2013. Sadly I think they've had it thanks to us Canary Killas.
-
I think it will be Norwich looking at the run in of games they have.
-
Well if Villa were def guaranteed then I would have liked to see Wigan stay up. Now I feel they or norwich could be the fallers. I was shrewd enough to take a few teams on that list @ 28/1 to drop. I now see villa have been pushed out in the odds some say 40/1 after next weekend we will get a very clear picture of how many teams are left.
-
Wigan. Villa will burst their bubble like they did Di Canio's with a last day of the season hammering.
-
Wigan. Even if they beat Swansea, they will lose at Arsenal and then to us.
-
I've a feeling it could be Newcastle or Sunderland.
Can't believe 3 have still gone for us, though. I know we're not out of the woods, but, surely, we must have some confidence in the team

It would require us to lose at Wigan but beat Chelsea and make up a goal deficit on them of 20. Thats apart from a whole load of other results falling into place.

Hadn't thought of that - same applies to Wet Spam.
-
Newcastle please. I detest their self-appointed "greatest fans in football" image and if they do slip away the comedy value would be lovely.
-
Wigan. I reckon we'll be saving Newcastle on the last day.

The team yes, I like it more than I have in years, but Wigan lead very charmed lives.
-

Yes 3 have said us, yet not one has said Fulham or Stoke, or Southampton who are a point less.
Those 3 must be either infiltrators or eternal pessimists. Come on own up ! Who are ya ?

Poll already here (http://www.heroesandvillains.info/forumv3/index.php?topic=48074.0)

I think we will beat Wigan on the last day and confirm Newcastles safety.
I wouldn't be surprised if they only pick up one point from their last three games, with Newcastle doing likewise from their two.
-
I said us for many reasons, but not through not believing in the team or the manager, as I am a big advocate and very optimistic with the team, and think they have done brilliantly to get to 40 with 2 left, but the fixtures have left us with the hardest last 2 games of all I think combined, coupled with a very good chance that Wigan will be able to relegate us with a final day win. I sincerely hope I am wrong and look a right tit by Tuesday!
-
I think it'll be Norwich.
-
I think it'll be Norwich.
I think they are the most likely if it not us Risso at the moment. WBA play properly and Norwich should struggle to beat them, and it is the game which gives me comfort.

Given that we're currently 33/1 to go down I take it you'll be piling on.
-
5 yes FIVE people on here have said Villa....un-f-in-believable!

I have 3 kids - what spare cash am I meant to pile on with Dave?!

Why is it so unbelievable? Because we see the games before us going against us? How many times when we have needed them too, have games gone for us? Thankfully we are doing it for ourselves.

You could sell a child.

I've a gut feeling for SS Underland, but as we've seen so often trying to predict anything is a mugs game.

Cameron's Britain, hard working, fertile people can't even afford a few quid at the bookies.

If yesterday is anything to go by, anything can happen in the next two weeks.
-
I think it's Wigan. Yesterday they rode their luck. They might win midweek, but they'll lose the last two on the back of the Cup Final
defeat. I think we'll go there and get a win regardless of what happens against Chelsea.
-

If yesterday is anything to go by we should win the rest of our games and finish top half.
-
I'm hoping we'll do a great service to every team in the Premier League by relegating Wigan on the last game of the season. Of all the teams in this relegation battle, they are the most deserved for the drop.
-
Gone for Norwich .
I'd like to see wigan go though .
Just out of interest i wonder how keen Harry would be for newcastle to go down- in his position i would see newcastle as a club who could probably bounce straight back up leaving only one automatic promotion place to play for - if i was involved at qpr i would much rather , Norwich or wigan went down as I'd see them as less of a promotion threat than newcastle.
-
Anyone but us.
-
Wigan. I reckon we'll be saving Newcastle on the last day.
And they'd better be fucking grateful an all!
-
Got a feeling for Norwich going, they struggling to score and only won twice or so since Xmas
-
Ozz Jim I see the happy pills are working well. Cant sell one of the kids Dave there all hiding from their Manic Depressive Father lol.

I've gone for Norwich, as I just said on the relegation thread, "By my reckoning, since they beat Wigan on Dec 15th, their record in the league is W2 D7 L10. I'd be very worried if I was a Norwich fan, and not just because of the inbreeding."
-

At 33/1 even putting £3 could be quite a bonus for a family with 3 kids I'd have thought. If you're so convinced we're going down then I'd certainly give this a shot it I were you. However this insistence that we have the hardest run in is a bit weird. Have you seriously looked at everyone in the bottom half's remaining fixtures? We're not only already above 7 teams, we're level with another 2, and ALL, every single one, of those still above the drop zone have to better our results for us to go down. Add to this that we are better on current form than any of them, I wouldn't start planning how to spend that £99 winnings just yet.
-
Newcastle have Arsenal at home, Sunderland spurs away. Norwich have Man City away.
We have Wigan, come on guys.
-
BBC Predictor thingy (so obviously fantasy):
Five teams on 41pts (SS Unterland, Fulham, Villa, Norwich, Newcastle), Southampton relegated on 40pts (2 draws, 1 home loss)
We drew with Chelsea (who finished 3rd with 72pts) and lost to Wigan (finished on 42pts).

Not just that, Fulham are on a 5-game losing streak and Chelsea have not done back-to-back wins since January.
Both Southampton and Sunderland hold the key to this relegation spectacular.

5 yes FIVE people on here have said Villa....un-f-in-believable!
Whys it so unbelievable? I think it's more unbelievable that people think we're completely safe and don't have a chance of going down.
(for what its worth I voted Sunderland)
-
It will between Norwich and Wigan I believe. Goal difference may well come into it. They are currently on equal GD but Wigan have scored more. I don't think Norwich will beat the Tesco bags as I can't see them losing 3 in a row (I assume they will lose to Citeh in midweek). On the other hand, I am pretty convinced Wigan will beat Swansea but they may need a point against us. I would've said Newcastle also, but after QPR's pathetic showing against Stoke, I can't see them taking anything in that match.

I don't think for one moment that we are completely safe, and I don't think anyone else does either. I am just amazed that given the facts, there are Villa fans who think we are the most likely of the contenders to go down. Of course we could get relegated, and I remain nervous, but looking at the table and the form guide, and yes - even the various team's run ins, it is Villa-esque pessimism at its most extreme to say we are the most likely to go.

Maybe these people feel we won't get any more points, seeing as we're playing Chelsea and Wigan thats very possible.. I personally think we have the hardest 2 fixtures out of all the teams fighting down there, but think one of them below us wont pick up the points required to overtake us even if we lose both but can certainly see why people think we might still go down.
Just don't see whats so "un-F-inbelievable" about it at all.
-
So if sunderland dont beat stoke tommorrow then will the media start saying Di canio is not as hot after all? I dont think its been noted how poor and clueless sunderland were after they fell 3-1 behind. Stoke should be destroying them at corners and set pieces. I think i want sunderland to lose as Di Canio has bn given far too much acknowledgement and is a lower league manager and they could easily fumble. Any one else favouring a stoke win or draw ? The way benteke was allowed headers i can only see more misery for sunderland from stokes play.
-
I wouldn't swap our position or the run-in with anyone below us. I bet they all would swap with us. Keep the Faith.
-
To put it another way, the voting above - anyone who hasnt voted for Wigan in this Poll most likely believes Wigan will beat us on the last day.. think about it. Either that or they think they will beat Arsenal who are top of the form guide.
73% of voters think Wigan will stay up therefore most likely beat Villa - are they not doom mongers then?.
-

Or they beat Swansea and one of Newcastle, Sunderland or Norwich lose all their games... Think about it.
-
Given the fixture congestion both Wigan and Chelsea are facing I don't think Villa have the hardest run in.
-
So if we had WBA at home the Citeh away people think that would be easier than Chelsea and Wigan? I think Delia's face said it all yesterday

In that Scenario they could still go down on goal difference.

Both those teams have nothing to play for, yesterday proved that - for both of them

I think Norwich, because they have Baggies and Man city to play.
I think goal difference will decide though, so might be Newcastle.

I do feel for you but can't help you I am afraid.
-
What about the extent to which teams in the zone play each other? We aren't the only ones in that position. This has a massive impact on the likelihood of ALL the teams below us getting the points needed to go past us, even if we get no more ourselves. Like I say, of course we're not out of the woods, but it takes some negativity to put us as your best bet to go down at this stage. There is a saying that you never see a poor bookie - yet some of them have us as far out as 40-1 whilst our own supporters think we're the most likely to go down. Forgive me if I think that's a bit upside down.
-

When 73% of people are voting for Wigan to stay up I think thats by getting more than 3 points with a gamble on goal difference in all honesty.

Good point, Amfy.
Sunderland v Southampton, for instance.
-
Can't believe 3 have still gone for us, though. I know we're not out of the woods, but, surely, we must have some confidence in the team
I have gone for N'castle. But I a still extremely worried it could be us. No way should we be 40/1, and we could very easily lose our next 2 games, which would also give Wigan one of the games they need to overhaul us. Some of the teams below us play each other which means they are guaranteed a few points.
-
I'd like it to be Wigan. They flirt with relegation every season, their ground is always half empty, they had 10000 unsold tickets for the FA Cup semi final, and Dave Whelan's self-aggrandizing fat gob is eminently punchable. But I do like Martinez. Having said all that I think it will be Norwich
-
Chelsea's win at utd today means if they beat spurs they will qualify for the champions league on weds night due to a 17 goal diff advantage, this could mean a much weakened team against us .
-
There seems to be a worry and an assumption that if its goes to the last day for us then Wigan would be favourites to win.
However, we have not lost away to anybody outside the top four for 7 months.
-

Really hope they do win midweek. With their final just days after playing us surely we could get something out of this game instead of the certain defeat most are predicting?
-
It's Newcastle for me. I can see QPR having a rare good day and actually winning then with spurs and arsenal likely to still be battling it out on the last day I reckon Newcastle won't win. So just one more point for them and Wigan could well overtake them.
-

We also have a good record against the teams around us, at least since February. And, if memory serves me correctly, we have a good record at the JJB Stadium.
-
I voted for Norwich. Because my brother says Norwich and he knows loads more about football than I do.
-
Cannot see Norwich getting another point. On there forum they were upbeat about how they were attacking Villa and it was an improvement !!!
-
Come in Wigan your time is up!
-

Blimey. I don't remember Guzan making a meaningful save.

I suggest Hull to go down next season and hope not to see villa on such a discussion next season.

My thoughts entirely. And i thought apart from Gabby we were nowhere near our best ........

if you don't mind i'm going to use that in a FB status to one of my Norwich supporting mates

That's why it's unbelievable.
Because we're not relying on other results.
We seem to be the form team, along with Wigan, yet 5 still don't have confidence in the team.

I don't think we are likely to go down, but if you think it's 'unbelievable', then look at the table and you'll see that mathematically it is still possible.
It's really as simple as that, form team or not.
-
Still think the 2 points we dropped against FUlham will haunt us. Plus I am an eternal pessimist when it comes to making predictions about us.
However my prediction history on these threads are always wrong by the way and I do not want to change that now.
-
If we get thumped by Chelsea, watch our odds come right in. And all this hopefulness evaporate.

While I don't think it will be us that goes down, we're far from safe and there still could be a lot riding on all the fixtures of the final day. Whether we're involved or not, I can see it being like when Blues went down with lots of last minute changes of who is in that 3rd spot.

I've voted for Wigan, though the only ones I wouldn't have voted for based on personal prejudices are Fulham, Southampton and Norwich. I find Whelan irritating. I heard him talk about the FA Cup on R5. From memory, the presenter asked him about timings apropos travel/inconvenience for fans of northern teams to London [it might have been about the semi final, only half listening]. He was so pro-Wembley, he came across like a star struck One Direction fan. I know he suffered a leg break in a cup final, but there's just something of the embarrassing elderly relative about him which irritates me.

-
Sunderland for me. Diracist will bring them straight back up but they are fucked this season.
-
If one of the teams below us only pick up one point from their next two games we're safe even if we lose both. I never imagined we'd have been in this position three or four weeks ago.
-

We didn't though - that's the difference between now and earlier in the season. We also had other chances that we could and should have scored from. Gabby could have had a hat-trick and Weimann should have buried his late chance instead of trying to put it on a plate for Benteke. Earlier in the season we really struggled to even create chances.
-
I voted for Southampton but purely because I tried to do a worse case scenario for Villa on the BBC predictor and going into the the last game it was just Southampton below us.
I very much hope that my worse case scenario doesn't happen as despite my choice I would fancy Southampton to beat Stoke at home especially if stoke are safe.
-
When did Newcastle last win in London ?
Pre-Coronation?
-
Sunderland - Please
Send the over hyped Mussolini accolyte to the pit of mediocrity. Fascist Scum!!!
Come on Uncle Dull from Sturke batter them tomorrow
-
When did Newcastle last win in London ?
Pre-Coronation?
A scoreline that's forever stuck in my head. I remember donkey's years ago, stood on the Holte, watching the half times scores come up, and seeing they were 4-0 up at QPR. Got home, found out it'd finished 5 each! A repeat of that will do, followed by a CL-qualifying pasting from arsenal.
Bish-bosh, sorted.
-
I still think that Wigan are up against it (helped a bit by Michu being injured for Tuesday), but apart from them I think Norwich are looking very vulnerable. Us beating them yesterday will have been a massive blow and I can see them not winning either of their next two games. A draw against West Brom and defeat at Man City might not be enough to keep them up.
I must admit to feeling concerned about our survival chances over the past few weeks and although I still think there is a possibility we could go down, I think that it has become far less likely. Wigan fail to beat Swansea on Tuesday and we will almost be over the line. After some pretty bleak times this season, it would be great to end the season on a high and sign off with two wins.

We're not sorted but we're in a better position than where we were at 3pm yesterday. I'm pretty confident we'll be ok.
-
I still think that Wigan are up against it (helped a bit by Michu being injured for Tuesday), but apart from them I think Norwich are looking very vulnerable. Us beating them yesterday will have been a massive blow and I can see them not winning either of their next two games. A draw against West Brom and defeat at Man City might not be enough to keep them up.
I must admit to feeling concerned about our survival chances over the past few weeks and although I still think there is a possibility it we could go down, I think that it has become far less likely. Ozz - you would have to agree that our prospects are looking a lot better than they were even as recently as after the Sunderland game. Of course there is a possibility that we could still go down, but there is now almighty pressure on some teams below us and considering some of their final fixtures, a number of them will almost be in a must win situation next week. Things will be a bit clearer after Wigan's game on Tuesday.

Are there any teams below us with whom you would willingly swap points, form and remaining fixtures? If so, who and why?
-
Sunderland because they were dire and have lost their best forward.
-
Nick Harper - not sure you are right.
Southampton would move above us if we didn't get any more points and they got one more.
Also Sunderland have three games left, so they could get one point from their next game and three in their last and then move ahead.
13 Aston Villa 36 -21 40
14 Southampton 36 -11 39
15 Norwich 36 -22 38
16 Newcastle 36 -23 38
17 Sunderland 35 -12 37
18 Wigan 35 -22 35

We could simplify things and beat Chelsea.

We could simplify things and beat Chelsea.
Is there a way for us to be safe by the time we play Chelski? I would like that.
-
No. Let's just hope Stoke beat Sunderland and Swansea beat Wigan.

Not quite but a Wigan defeat against Swansea would mean they'd need to beat both Arsenal away and Us while we'd need to lose against Chelsea.
-
I know this much, i'm exhausted just going through all the permiatations in my mind for hours on end.
I feel like i'm on football predictive Speed or something.
Fucking Albion!!!
-
Our early kick off vs Chelsea does us no favours at all (unless we get a result). Lose and it will give Norwich, Newcastle and Sunderland a lift...but win it and it kicks them in the nuts, but it wouldn't matter then anyway.
-
If we draw with Chelsea and Wigan get 4 pts from Swansea and Arsenal, then a draw on the last day might be enough for us both to stay up
-
I still cannot believe we are on 40 points and still looking over our shoulder. Wigan really are like a bad smell that simply won’t go away. We have to get a point out of that Chelsea game to maintain the momentum, but I simply don’t think our team is capable of playing out a draw.
I’m less worried than I was at the 88th minute of Saturday’s game, but we are not out of the woods yet, especially with Wigan up to their usual tricks.
-
If both us and Wigan do need a draw to stay up on the final day, will we do a Sweden-Denmark?

Almost certainly.

Well I doubt very much that we'll both know before the game that 1 point will be sufficient - it might prove so afterwards but not before.
I expect one or both of us will need to win it. A nightmare scenario that I want us to avoid at all costs.
-
Norwich for me. Out of all the other teams down there, I'd prefer them to stay up, but I don't think they'll get another point.
-
Wigan wont get any favours from us. We will go up there and beat them come what may.
-
We'll beat Wigan so I'm not too concerned.
-
5 yes FIVE people on here have said Villa....un-f-in-believable!
Why is it so unbelievable? Because we see the games before us going against us? How many times when we have needed them too, have games gone for us? Thankfully we are doing it for ourselves.
I do feel for you but can't help you I am afraid.
An alternative possibility is that some mischievous FORKs are stirring it.
* Fans Of Rival Klubs on here.
I've gone for Sunderland because they have just lost key players from their squad at the worst time.

We might not KNOW but if both teams are ahead of or level on points with Newcastle and Norwich going in to the games then it looks a decent bet that a draw would do given their last day
-
I suspect - looking at all the foixtures - that BarCodes must be cacking themselves, especially if QPR have one last hurrah against them.
There's a synchronisity about the underwhelming Pardew being manager of the season one year and relegation-manager in the next.
Norwich would be my second bid for relegation.
Wigan have to win a very winnable game aginst Swansea and I think they may have enough.
I think blunderland will beat Stoke tonight ... but if not they are definitely in the mire.
Win agin' Chelsea and our agony is done; so let's go to it.

I agree, Paul, with the maths etc
But the lads are playing well and, surely, having a bit of form does count at this stage.
I think what aftab is getting at is that they should now have the confidence of the support.
-

I think that is what we need to do to ensure we are not in the mix on the last day of the season, coupled with Swansea and Arsenal giving Wigan a good going over. Villa should not be in this situation, that much is clear. But Wigan have been flirting with relegation for at least five years and their luck must eventually run out. They are a mediocre Championship side dancing on the top deck of the Titanic as the iceberg is approaching.
-
Given the form guide in the last 6 games, we're in the best shape. Norwich and Newcastle need to worry the most. I can see Norwich being fruitless from their last two games as well. In which case, they'll be reliant on Wigan to slip up, which given Wigan, you'd expect them to somehow scrape out of it again.
-
There seems to be a worry and an assumption that if its goes to the last day for us then Wigan would be favourites to win.
However, we have not lost away to anybody outside the top four for 7 months.
Huh, we lost to Noocassil on the last day of Jan - barely 3 months ago. We've been Champions League since then though.
-
Cannot see Norwich getting another point. On there forum they were upbeat about how they were attacking Villa and it was an improvement !!!
Blimey. I don't remember Guzan making a meaningful save.
That's cos he missed a meaningful header at the death!

That was at home, Eamonn. Andy did specifically say "lost away".
-
Lets face it, form goes out of the window when you are fighting for your life to stay in the league. All this ''well such and such should beat such and such'' Its all bollocks at this stage of the season.
FWIW, I think Wigan will go south.
If they dont, it will be one hell of an achievement with the run in they have got and the time frame to do it in.
-
If i had to pick one, i'd say Norwich although i wished they was'nt playing the Stripeyfilth on Sunday.

Sorry, missed that in my eagerness to prove him wrong. Apologies Mr Lochhead.

This is a very long list with only 2/3 to play. Have I forgotten anyone?
Poll finishes at about 11.40 am on Monday 6th May.
The winners are Norwich.
