Oooooh Memories!!!!
-
What a splendid day that was!
For all the resentment I feel towards our manager of the time, I am grateful to him for days like that.
-
When we went 2-0 up there was a real feeling in the air that it could be a very special day. For all the suffering we had when Small Heath first came up, this day proved the divide in class between the two clubs. Watching Villa score against Small Heath is always special, so to do it 5 times in one day inside a rocking Holte End, is one of my the best footballing experiences I've ever had.
And who could forget...

Can't believe we didn't get more in the remaining 12 minutes. Really let them off the hook there.
-
I've missed one home derby in 30 odd years, which was for personal reasons. Guess which fecking one it was?
-
Can you give us a hint?

The most perfect, satisfying trip to the Villa I've taken despite the God-awful weather. Flew over from Dublin, stayed in a B&B somewhere near Edgbaston. Got off at Witton station with me mate, an Italian on his first trip to VP, pissing people off with our luggage bags getting in the way of people making their way to the ground. The staff kindly minded them at the entrance to the North Stand where we had a great view of the three second-half goals. Couldn't have gone much better really.
Scary to think it's been five years. Christ, you'd fit the entire career of The Smiths into a similar timespan.

That game was my sons first derby match. Fantastic game and neither of us had a voice on the way home.
-
Can't believe that's five years ago! Incredible. Really thought we were going to be huge for years to come.

Now THAT's a Villa supporter.
-
& don't forget we lost a Villa fan after the match.
-
My favourite part was randomly spotting my bluenose cousin in a pub in Solihull after the game. I felt like I had won the lottery. He saw me as I was making my way through the crowd to 'chat' with him. From the look on his face he didn't know whether to run or cry. I chatted with him and his mate for a while, didn't gloat but made sure I was very patronising and then strolled away knowing that every second in my company had been hell for them.
-
To be honest I preferred the previous win when Cahill scored his wonder goal

The one (very minor) grudge I hold against SGT1 is when he went easy on them in the Simod Cup. We could have reached double figures that night.

The fact they got one still grates me.

Crikey 5 years ago, amazing day.
-
Great memories of that day!
-
There was a period of about half an hour during that game that I don't properly recall. Most of my memories are barrelling down the steps of the Lower North into a massive knot of cheering humanity.
-
God bless the West Midlands police! Closed Aston Lane 30 minutes after the game to slowly escort coach loads of miserable, sick noses it's full length between pavements choc full of wildly celebrating Villa fans. Total drive of shame.
-
I like the picture of the empty away end 10 mins before the end.....would anybody care to do the honours?
-
-
See how effortlessly happy football can make you? The right result, and everything's fine with the world.
-
Surely a well deserved bump to celebrate a magnificent performance capped off by Mellberg's wave to all as he went off !
-
The old 'cheerio' chant is incredibly childish but also incredibly funny in situations like that. I was just disappointed that the clip you posted wouldn't let me watch the clip that followed. An interview with Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor.
-
Happy Mellberg Day everyone
-
What a day.

When they scored to make it 4-1 we started talking about the Leicester game in February 1995 such is our ingrained belief Villa could cock it up.

I came back to England for two weeks in the middle of my two years living abroad. I managed to take in two Villa games whilst I was back. That Leicester game and a 3-1 defeat at Newcastle.

From memory the day was overcast and drizzly but don't recall really bad weather, could be wrong.
Great game though. We were a bit slow to get going first 10 minutes but once Young got the opener it was a destruction. Barry had one of his best Villa games that day, midfield masterclass from start to finish.
My Birthday's next week so I always enjoy derby games against them around this date as we always seem to win them.

We beat them 6-0 on my eighteenth birthday so beat that! ;)
