Title: Lambert speaks:
Post by: dave.woodhall on March 04, 2013, 01:14:59 PM
Paul Lambert has been talking to Yahoo, in an exclusive interview in which he says of the Villa job, "I love the challenge of it. The size of the club underlines just how big a challenge it is and I love the pressure of that. It is a great club to be associated with and the fans have been great, they’ve stuck with us and that has been a huge help. I hope over the next 11 games we can see the job through for them" and of the relegation battle, "We don’t have a points target as such because you can never be sure how well a team is going to do. As I said, there are a lot of points to be played for over the next 11 games, so we’ll just have to wait and see. With the way the lads are playing at the moment I can see us picking up some really good wins. In respect of a points target I’m really not sure what is going to be enough to keep any of the teams up."

He's sensibly taking the 'fans are great' route.

Too many Managers start laying into the supporters when things start going tits up (see David O'Leary).

And Rafa Benitez.

It's amazing how the same comments can be wheeled out over and over again for an entire season and presented as news each time.  I don't blame Lambert for saying the same thing every time - it normally goes wrong for managers when they veer off script - but it does dull any interest in what he's got to say.

Overall, i'd say our supporters are fairly reasonable and patient.
I've sat/stood in the Wolves, Albion, Coventry and Blues home ends and they all moan far worse than we ever could.

I was at an Albion game in the late 80's against Portsmouth, they were 3-0 up at half time and as the second half started, they were moaning their fucking heads off at the players.

Aye.

Performances have been largely sub standard this season, but he hasn't given it any "Aston Villa fan's expect too much because they won a European Cup once."  So far, at least.   Even McLeish started coming out with that shite towards the end.

We didn't expect/ demand that under him or O'Dreary, a point that seems to be forgotten any time suggestions of unrealistic expectations end up in print.

Yeah I'm great also, I do think on the whole the fans have stuck with the team and the manager

If the same questions are being asked over and over again, why would you expect him to give different answers?

Yahoo's shit. Our fans, on the other hand, are fantastic - particularly away from home.

I think the fans at games have been good to Lambert considering all the kicks in the you no whats we have had to endure this season. Apart from the two blokes who sit behind me who think everything and everyone is s**t from the first whistle of every game.

We've had dealings with their PR company before and they asked us to mention it.

It's Dave's fans that are fickle ???

Lambert is right.

The fans have been good this year, the level of support for him and the team despite us being in a relegation fight, and despite some dreadful results, has been nothing short of excellent.

That's what pisses me off about the fickle nonsense. We are quite a forgiving crowd all things considered.

I can't remember too many managers that have extended their tenure by alienating the terraces. Or enhance their reputation either.

Even Clough ended up kissing that fan he lamped.
