Article below, states Carew's come out of retirement to sign for Inter Milan!
Why havent we taken him? At least until the summer............

Yeah, he probably could do a job in defence.
-
Pleased for the big man.
I miss the days when he was great for us and brought the best out of Ash and Gabby.
-
How da fuq did he blag that move?! What an agent he must have...from getting Alesha's Dixon number to starring in Norwegian slasher-movies to this. Hope he got suitcases full of commission, fully deserving.
-
Richard Dunne to sign for Real Madrid......or Barcelona!
-
On the bench at best , doubt he will start a game there.
-
He's a lucky chap to get a gig like that at his stage in his career. Good luck to him.

Lucky indeed . Dreadful at stoke and west ham and inter fans will be in for a shock when they see how he has declined .
Maybe heskey will pop up at juventus next?

We haven't taken him because he's been shite for the past three years.
-
Carew declined due to persistent back injuries. We had the best of him, and he loved being here.
Heskey and him shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath IMO.

Not to mention the fact that our attacking force is the only part of our squad that doesn't need strengthening. There would be little justification for blowing thousands of pounds that we don't have a week on Carew when the rest of the team is in such dire need of improvement.

Like Carew, Heskey was good at one time. But he declined when he hit 20. (years that is, not goals)
-
Is this not a wind up ?

Totally agree tom.
-
So surprising that it begs the question, is he going to play or to be an anti racism ambassador?
-
Yeah, he probably could do a job in defence.
My wife unexpectedly bought a new pine storage cupboard a fortnight ago. It's about 6'6" in height and 3' wide. It could probably do a better job defending corners than any of the current defenders. I'd be prepared to let it go for 500 grand plus 10,000 per week. Or less.
-
How.....what the.....pffghfgfh......
EH?
-
He's had back problems for a number of years now, which would only get worse.
He suffered numerous injury niggles with us as well, I always thought we only got the best out of him when when he was 100% fit, which was rare.
Good luck to him, but he's shot it now.
-
Must admit he looked finished to me at top level in 10/11 and he didn't do much at Stoke or West Ham either.
Strange signing, might see him against Spurs in the europa league.
-
Moratti says he's joining them on a 15 day trial then he might sign or not. They need cover as Diego Milito out for six months injured.

There is no comparison between them agreed.
-
One of my neighbours is a Wham season ticket holder and reckons that he was utter, utter disinterested garbage for them from the day he signed.
We did well out of him, and he was a good signing for us, but he has done nowt since 2010.
-
I too think we had his best years. I was surprised to see we were the team he played the most games for.
He was (mostly) good for us, but infuriating, in that he could have been so much better, had his application matched his talent.
Scoring and lifting that ballboy up in the celebrations when he scored against Small Heath, that was ace, too. I like it when players show a connection with the real world of ordinary people. He must have known that'd be a memory that kid would keep the rest of his life.

Carew was by no means the best or most dedicated player we ever had, but he was really, really watchable, something you realise more these days, watching a squad mostly composed of Championship fodder.
-
His goals to games ratio must be one of the best we've had from a striker post Yorke I reckon. Him and Dublin anyway.
-
Why is anyone talking about Carew coming back to Villa ? Why ?
-
Er...I'm pretty sure that they're not.
-
Good for him. He loved playing for us and a player that it was very easy to get behind and that made you enjoy watching football. On his day simply a destroyer of defenders. Not enough of those days throughout his career. I imagine he'll still look back fondly at it, the goals he scored, the women he's banged and the money he's made. I hope he gets a chance at Inter.
-
His best game was Reading away in the F.A Cup when we were 2-0 down at half time. He was unplayable in the second half.

Lazy sod at times but yes in that reading game he was outstanding , i enjoyed his Newcastle hat trick as well along with the 5-1 blues game- he was a good player for us at times but lacked consistency.
If he had the heart and effort of heskey to go along with his talent he would have been a hell of a player.
-
The game where he destroyed Cahill in the 5-1 against Bolton was a real exhibition of centre forward play. One of my favourite players of the last ten years.
-
Good luck to him. I'll watch a game or two if he plays.
-
I'd have taken him as back-up. Not because of his playing ability. We know he's more or less finished.
But with us lacking leaders, he could have been a great influence in the dressing room for the younger lads. Maybe even come on with 10 mins to go when we need to steady the ship.
-
Really?
I'd suggest Carew is way, way off being a good influence on the younger players. If we're into signing players for that motive (and we shouldn't be), then we could do much better than him.

Exactly, most of the time he looked as if he couldnt care less and needed motivating during his final year.
-
Past his best. Not a patch on Benteke. Wouldn't have signed him for any reason at all.
-
I liked the big man, Always have and always will. Good luck to him
-
I liked him too but he was past his best when he left and i certainly wouldnt want him now.
-
I don't want him back now anyways
-
The influence and leadership of a player with the physique of a Viking and the resilience of a librarian? No thanks.
-
I liked him while he was here but with our current striking options and his record since he left us (one goal in ten PL games for Stoke and two in nineteen championship games for West Ham) unless he is secretly a great centre half or central midfielder I don't exactly think we have missed out over this.
-
The big issue here is what happens to the Norwegian slasher movie he was making?
-
Whats the Inter fans reaction - Archie, fbrai, other Italian Heroes?
-
They are now going to give him a trial before deciding whether to offer him a 12 week deal - i expect once they see him train they will put him straight back in a taxi to the airport.

Seem's like there is conflicting reports from the deal has fallen through to going on trial first. I thought i'd read he'd been training with them anyway already, so then having a trial seems strange?
-
if he ever plays even a minuet for Inter i'l eat my sow'wester
-
And there we go. He has already been released, was only on trial and lacks fitness. What was that all about?
-
I'd very much like to see Carew perform a minuet.
-
Have any of your dreams died so quickly?
-
No surprise really , someone had'nt done their homework.
-
I'd expect some American, Japanese, Chinese or Arab team would be more than happy to take a punt on him.
-
I'd very much like to see Carew perform a minuet.
And I would like too see El Ahmadi perform a minute

Is this thread about John Carew or Ron Vlaar? Boom! Boom!
-
He's been released by the way.
-
More of a trial so there was no release as such, just no offering him a deal.
Apparently he'd been there the last two weeks, the news only came out yesterday and today they said they wouldn't be taking him on.
If they're digging round the graveyard for strikers, what are Mido and Zaki up to these days?
-

Mark Viduka was on TV the other day. Looked like he'd been on the Razor Ruddock retirement training plan

He was looking a good way into the Ruddock training plan in his last couple of years playing to be fair.

Carew was on Goals on Sunday yesterday. They showed the QPR game and then asked him if he thought they'd stay up. His response was along the lines of 'I hope they don't do too well as I want the Villa to stay up' and then spent a good 30 seconds talking about us.
It didn't sound like a cynical ploy to try to get a game (given he's out of contract) as the annoying hamster-faced presenter then asked him if he'd come back to the Villa if he was offered a deal and his response was basically that he knew there was no chance of that.
Good to see a former player with positives to say about us though.
-
He's been released by the way.
yeah, well were gona carry on regardles so there
