Title: Reo-Coker signs for Vancouver!
Post by: VancouverLion on February 22, 2013, 04:10:34 AM
Just heard our Nige has agreed a 4 year deal with the Whitecaps and makes his debut at home to Toronto a week Saturday, I'm so glad I renewed my season ticket!!  ;)  I thought i'd seen the last of him running around like a headless chicken, here we go again!!
He's not signed as a designated player so I think the most he can be on is $4000 a week, didn't he think he was worth 50,000 quid a week once?? Poor Nige.

UTV!

I know what you mean, I wouldn't get out of bed for 4K a week.

Who is the "designated player" then? Surely not Super Average Kenny Miller?

Might have to get over to BC place this season to watch a game. I quite enjoyed him at VP for that one season he performed...he'll do well here, and he's join a really decent MLS side on the up.

Presumably there is no passing of the ball more than 5 yards in a straight line to another player
involved if he'll do well there?

I must have missed that one season though I think I did catch the one game!

Didn't he say he was a champion's league player when he left us? He must have meant the CONACAF version

I think it was his agent who was putting out the idea that Europe's top clubs were in competition to sign him. Personally I would have welcomed him back in January on a deal till the end of the season.

Good luck to him. Despite his shortcomings and being played out of position he always did his best for us.

Championship player at best. If I was 'fully fit' I could have ran round in a Villa shirt all day for us, kicking a few people and maybe even found another player with the odd pass.

God loves a trier, and he didn't half give it a go when he played. I think he'll do well at that level, fair play to him.

I'm quite worried about our Nige and his propensity to go sideways.

I've looked where Vancouver is on a map and if he keeps going sideways there, there is a real danger he could fall off the edge of the World.

Good luck to him. He did his best for us and that's all we can ask.

Surely the best thing about playing for the Whitecaps, is living in Vancouver! Lovely part of Canada - a real favourite of mine.

He is a real poster boy for the enormous sums of money wasted at this club.

Signed for £8.5m, if you assume he was on 40k a week, which isn't unreasonable, was here for 4 years, and walked away for nothing, you get a total cost of not too far of £20m.

And that's not including other payments like win bonuses or signing on fees etc etc.

Given that we're often told Randy has sunk £200m into the club, that means that more or less 10% of that figure was spent on having Nigel Reo-Coker play for us.

What a shocking waste of money. Not NRC's fault, but the fault of the people who spent so much on him in the first place, then managed him so badly, he ended up walking out for nothing.

I am also not too convinced by this "he did his best for us, that's all we can ask" line, either. Surely doing their best is the least we can ask of them, not all?

I am not too sure to what degree he was doing his best for us when he got into a training ground brawl with the manager, for example.

Reo-Choker has been the most trending subject on H&V over the past two months. Let this be an end to it.

expect a lot of arm waving, huddles and pointing VL as he gives the ball away...again. He'll do well in the MLS, though it's not quite the CL that he had hoped for off course. I'll be out in Vancouber a bit this year so maybe we can get together at some point for a game and a pint.

Sounds good TV, for sure let me know when you're in town. We have a Villa supporters club here too and often meet up at the pub to watch the games, be great if you could make that too.

Seemingly, he is. I wonder how NRC feels about being on a lot less than him. Especially as it was not that long ago he wasn't interested in staying here because he was, and I quote, 'interesting Champions League clubs'.

I don't think Nige is short of a few bob to be honest. 4k a week isn't chicken feed either. He probably could have earn 4-5 times that at some championship clubs, but I guess part of his decision is to branch out a bit.
Maybe he'll get the designated player spot next season.

He got his big international move eventually then. The MLS is about to get a lesson in pointing.

Absolutely. Fantastic place and I would love a last job there myself.

I've never rated him much, especially as i've often said he cost us a small fortune. A staggeringly average footballer who thought he was far better than he actually is. The fact his peak years will be have been spent in Division 2 and Canada when he thought he was good enough for a top European side sums him up. Thanks for spunking the money Martin.

Would like to see his face when he goes down skid row and sees all the hobos hanging out at night :-)
Like something out of The Day of The Living Zombies.

Sounds like a plan VL. Would be hard for a weekend game as I'm normally there for work, but good chance the Whitecaps have a night game during the week. Will look at the schedule and see if it works with my travel out there. That Seattle home game in July looks tasty though.
