....the cup final next weekend? I saw an advert today for the final next week and got an aching pain knowing we should be there. For that reason I won't be watching, it will be like trying to watch match of the day after getting smashed 8-0 - I just won't bring myself to do it. How are you all feeling?
-
Not a chance
-
I'll be watching it, at least the final isn't two teams I can't stand so I will be able to enjoy it.
-
I'll be watching it. It pisses me off we fucked it up, but it's not exactly the first we've done that. It has been a long time since there has been a cup final where I don't mind who wins and will be happy for either when they do win it. Some of the Bradford fans will have been at Valley Parade in '85, and some of the Swansea fans will have been at the game when their league survival was on the line about a decade ago. For all of them i'm delighted they are there.
You can tell Villa haven't played this weekend and we won our last game, means i'm totally rational.
-
There is no chance I'll be able to watch it.
The bitterness is eating me up.
-
I will watch it, assuming I don't have anything better to do.
I hope Bradford win it, but either them or Swansea would be decent winners.
-
The companies with the TV rights must be very pissed off that the final will be contested between two tiny teams that hardly anybody supports, nobody else cares about and few mainstreamers have even heard of. In an effort to pump up possible viewers, they will advertise the shit out of Villa's failure/ Bradford's 'heroics'. Anyone with the mission statement Bright Future therefore has to resign in utter shame.
-
Like any final nowadays will watch if I genuinely have nothing else to do. Watched Rascist v Taffs last year and obviously Villa v Man Ure. Watched most of Fulham v Athletico in 2010.
Other than that saw last half hour of Heathens v Arsenal same Man U v Barca 2011 in CL and also last year's FA Cup Final.
That is about it since 2009 (FA Cup and European Cup).
Don't mind who wins - both sets of fans give a shit about it.
-
Despite the awfulness of our exit, I have no axe to grind with Bradford City. They deserve to be there and I think they and Swansea will produce a very good final. If I'm near a TV, I will watch it.
-

You're talking like some sort of kind bender.
-
I hope Bradford do it, but I'll be happy to hear about it on the the news on Monday morning.
-
Is it on Sky? If it is, no.
-
If its on terrestrial I'll watch it, be great to see a final without any of the usual tedious suspects in it.
-
I'll Sky+ it and if I get half hour to spare I might fast forward through it. Genuinely couldn't care less about who wins it. The same can be said for the FA cup, Champions League or any other competition for that matter.
-
Come on Matt it's time to dust ourselves off and move forward, I feel its my duty as a football fans to tune in to see if Bradford can make history and complete the story. Sadly I think Michu and co will be ruthless and it will be a no contest like that time Man U played Millwall in the FA Cup final. It does hurt, we could have taken care of Swansea given the two results against them this season but it was not to be. Our time will come again and it will feel sweeter because of this season's fuck up.
-
True, just I was in oz for the last 2 trips so haven't been to wembley since 96, I'd got my hopes up high for this year. I've been avoiding trips to the new wembley for various things in the hope that my first trip there would be the villa in a cup final. The disappointment of not being there coupled with watching Adrian chiles and some ex pros like bloody lawrenson verbally wanking Bradford off whilst some vt rolls with us waving flags and Bradford scoring goals from corners will prob send me over the edge.
I wish both teams the best of luck and both sets of supporters a day out they will never forget-that goal by Savo, with the sun shining is still to this day the best single football moment in my life...I just wouldnt enjoy watching the game knowing how close I was to another moment like that
-
I'm a bit gutted that we managed to fuck it up (because I think we'd have beaten Swansea in the final), but teams like Bradford getting to a cup final is one of the things that makes football great. I hope they win.
-
It's live on Sky (http://www.live-footballontv.com/live-football-on-sky-sports.html) so I won't be watching it. Bit relieved really as I've got to drive to Suffolk and back that day and would be pushing it to get back by 4.
-
As it's on Sky maybe I won't be watching then unless I go round the pub.
-
Of course I'll watch it. Just because we lost in the semi-final doesn't mean I've stopped being a football fan.
I can't see Bradford causing another upset and Swansea might well be in a position to declare by halftime - but you just never know.
-
I'll watch it. Nice to have a Final without any filth in it.
Hope Bradford win, as it would be nice to see a non-top flight team win a major trophy for the first time in two decades.
However don't particularly mind Abertawe winning either. Would show up and coming teams that its possible to survive and thrive in the top flight without resorting to Stoke type anti-football or Redknapp style "let's play the kids so we can concentrate on getting relegated" disrespecting of cup competitions.
Good luck to em.
Incidentally, Laudrup doesn't seem to be doing too badly despite not having the vital "Premier League experience".
-
I'll be watching it. Both teams deserve to be there.
I'd rather see Bradford win it and then give UEFA a good go next year.
-
100% won't be watching. 'That could have been us' will be dominating my thoughts if I did. I honestly doubt I will ever get over the Bradford result TBH. I still haven't gotten over screwing up against Bolton in the semis under DOL and that wasn't half as bad as the Bradford debacle. I do hope Bradford win though. It will give me a little comfort at least knowing we were knocked out by the winners.
-
If its on terrestrial I'll watch it, be great to see a final without any of the usual tedious suspects in it.
Exactly. If it was Liverpool v Chelsea or whoever, I'd be avoiding it like the plague.
Would quite like to see Bradford win it, but Swansea equally deserve it for the progress they've made recently. Hopefully they'll get into Europe through the league.
-

Isn't it on the BBC as well?

Nope. Couldn't care less.

Not live. Highlights late Sunday evening
-
I will be watching it and hoping that Bradford win it. Good luck to Bradford, if any club deserves something it is them.
Terrible fire, financial meltdown and now a cup final. Bloody good for them.
-
I'll watch it, don't mind who wins really but I think both sets of fans will have a great day.
-
Went passed the new wembley on the train the other day, it was depressing to think what might have been.

Same. I won't be watching. I'll still be down in London after Arsenal away. Staying over in North London and a night out in Camden is planned. Using the pre-booked train tickets I had hoped I'd be using for Wembley.
-
No. I will be on the train back from London glowing in the aftermath of a win at Emirates the day before!
-

Reading that, I had the same rueful feeling about schools teaching spelling.
-
Won't watch it as it's not on BBC.
We really should be there.
-
As it's not on BBC or ITV I won't be able to watch it. Hope Bradford win.
-
I'll probably watch it and would love to see Bradford win it.
-

At what point does the new Wembley just become Wembley?
-

When the generation of posters who went to Wembley (to see Villa or England - or anybody, really) become Ghostriders In The Sky.
2120 should be safe.
-

Seems I'm in a minority but would prefer Swansea to win, think they'll play Bradford off the pitch with their superior passing.
Yeah they're welsh but a great example of a club who were going down the toilet, survived and then just started making so many right decisions in the last 10 years even with a few good managers leaving. Their football is superb aswell so a fitting reward would be a trophy.
Bradford have done amazingly just to reach the final and turning over us and Arsenal should be enough for their fans to remember for years to come.
-
I have an appointment booked for Thursday to have a gel manicure and had already picked out the claret & blue colours I was going to have :( - I won't be watching on Sunday.
-
I honestly couldn't give a fuck about this game. I'm not against either side but it doesn't hold any interest for me, just like any final not involving Villa (i.e. most of them). And I don't care if Bradford complete their amazing journey.
-

Seconded. To be honest, my interest in any cup competition ends with the final whistle of the game when we go out, which is most of 'em. Keep your romance for your Mills & Boon.
-
much more likely to be watching Swansea v Bradford than say Man utd v Chelsea
i'm not even sure the sponsors will be to upset either,
i realise the viewing figures would be higher with a top 4 team involved but their fans dont really give a shit about that cup, and it would be instantly forgoten by everybody
so a genuine cup dream story with Bradford against a smallish premiership welsh side will be talked about far more in my view, and make for a more interesting final
i dont think it will do the sponsors any harm at all
-
What final? ;)
-
If its on terrestrial I'll watch it, be great to see a final without any of the usual tedious suspects in it.
Precisely this.
-
Nope.
-
It'll be a change to see two teams competing and two sets of fans, where it means everything to be in a cup final.
I hate the gruesome site of a Man Utd or Chelsea player, nonchalantly walking back down the Wembley steps unsmiling, removing the winner's medal immediately from round the neck, then announcing to a fawning interviewer that there is a more important match on the following Wednesday.
Also, In 2010, I couldn't believe the amount of Man Utd fans who didn't even stick around to see the team lift the cup.
-
I'll be there with the Bradford supporting half of my family. Well actually it is 3/5ths of my family but being an accountant I decided to round it down for my own convenience!
-
I don't know really, but both sides deserve to be there. Also Swansea are a good example of how a club should be run on a financial and footballing level so they deserve success.
-
I will watch it but I will need a few drinks before and during to handle it.
-
Yep, hope Swansea batter Bradford.
-
I like watching swansea and the way they play - i will watch and enjoy the game whoever wins- nice to see different teams there.
-
I'll probably watch some of it but I couldnt care less who wins to be honest.
-
Yep, hope Swansea batter Bradford.
I hope not. I would love to see Bradford do it. It's what football is all about, or at least it used to be; the dream of winning a cup final at Wembley. Having lived in Yorkshire for about 8 years and having the misfortune to work in Bradford for a year, I have nothing but admiration for their long suffering fans. They're a decent lot who love their team, not that I'l be watching of course. I have very little interest in football other than the Villa, in fact it kind of bores me, especially the Premier League.
-
Won't be watching, too painful.
Hope Bradford win it though.
-
What final is this?
Nothing of interest to me.
-
If I feel like a stroll up the local I'll watch it. I don't think it does us any favours getting all pissy about the fact that we were beaten by the better side, whatever league they are from. They deserve their place, we don't.
And I agree, having teams involved that piss off ****** like Sky makes me very happy.
-
Absolutely - best of luck to Bradford, an amazing achievement for a 4th tier team to get to the final. I don't mind Swansea either, they play good football and at least it's not Chelsea or someone else horrible.
Hopefully the referee will be Halsey, so that if we get to the final in future, he's less likely to be the ref....
-
I will be. In the immediate aftermath of the semi I said I wanted Bradford to win. I still do just about but working in Bradford it's real overkill up here & I'll be glad when the whole thing's over. At my workplace this week we've got a sports themed week to celebrate Bradford's success. Paid £1 for privilege of wearing my Villa shirt yesterday so people could laugh at me.
-

I hope it was a retro Villa shirt from 1982, no one can take a dig at that!
-
I'll be watching it to see if 'Dynamo' can turn all of Swansea's 11 players into a pile a shit like he did with us.
-
Nope. Not interested. Could have been us.
-
Nope. Not interested. Could have been us.
SHOULD have been us!
-
Nope. Not interested. Could have been us.
SHOULD have been us!
I dunno. Anyway I am just bitter. We have had nothing but failure for the past few years. I foolishly allowed my hopes to get up for this cup.
Besides I dont think I will be in the mood to watch any football after the Arsenal game. I fear a Chelsea level humiliation.
Cheery aint I? :)
-

True but it's not as if Swansea are some football aristocrate. They were in the same division as Bradford 5 or 6 years ago. Their football is superb while Bradford will no doubt try to score from set pieces so I'd rather Swansea win it plus they'd be better in europe aswell.

Are Swansea allowed in Europe?

Last time I checked Swansea were affiliated to the Welsh FA, and this is an English tournament.
-
Heard something on R5 the other day that Swansea would be allowed in European competition as they are playing in an English league and an English competition so the fact they are a Welsh team won't have any bearing on the outcome
-

However they play in the English football system. The teams like Bangor City normally represent Wales in European competitions.

It will be lile the first half of the second leg for the entire 90 minutes.

I remember watching her antics during the game as I was close to the corner. It is the only thing that I want to remember from that match.
-
Of course I'll be watching it, looking forward to watching 2 teams that are desperate to win the the cup rather than it just being a consolation prize.
That said, I'll still flick the 'V's' at the stupid arch en route to Arsenal tomorrow.
-
Good luck to Bradford, I worked in that city for a short while and like the place, they beat us end of

It'll be on in the pub where i am no doubt so i won't be too far away from a screen with it on. I'd rather not though.

You can always sit with your back to the action clamps, long as you dont spill your pint.
-
No, i`ll be contemplating fucking suicide.
-
News just in - it's been called off. No-ones interested so it's not happening. Ever.
-
Objectively I'm thrilled by the prospect of this game, especially if we'd been knocked out in the 4th round. I'll be happy for either side should they win it.
Subjectively I'll be grinding my teeth. What an opportunity missed. You owe us.
-
No, i`ll be contemplating fucking suicide.
It's a game of football. Nothing more, nothing less.
-
I definitely would have watched and had planned to with a few mates but I've been asked to work all day Sunday so unfortunately I'll have to give it a miss. I might record it and watch it when I get in but probably not.
-
No, i`ll be contemplating fucking suicide.

It didnt feel that way about 10 Seconds after they scored at VP.
-
Good luck Bradford.
-
I'd like Bradford to win, but no qualms with Swansea if they win the cup and get into Europe.
-
Normally I would love a final between these two. But after getting so close then I don't think I can bring myself to do it.
-
Nope, going bowling with wife and kids.

Welsh Clubs in English leagues can qualify for UEFA competitions by winning English trophies but not by winning Welsh ones.
This must be a change in policy. Many years ago UEFA ruled against English teams getting into Europe by winning the Welsh cup.
Quiz question of the week. Which are the six Welsh teams playing in the English League system?

Legion deserves the points for admitting he used google.
-
Thanks to sky i'll be watching on an internet stream. I'd love Bradford to win it but either way its a victory for football.
-
It's definitely a victory for football if Swansea win. They've run the club with a plan for ten years and they do things the right way.
-
Football's the winner today. It's a fairy tale. The magic of the cup. The stuff of dreams.
Nope, I'm not convinced either. Bollocks.
-
i'm watching.
Swansea win means my accumulator of Celtic, Cardiff, Man City, Swansea would come in... which would pay for a night out! Which of course would be nice!
-
I am watching it because I'm at work.
-
Thats probably that then.
-
that is our bloody cup.
-
It is pretty amazing to think that this season, we've taken four points off Swansea, and in the match at Villa Park, we out, err, Brazilled them.
-
So Swansea are the best team in the premier league for holding a lead. Assuming we are the worst maybe its just as well we aren't playing them.
-
Hopefully, the spineless shower who couldn't beat a third division (or whatever its called) team over two legs and who cost the club another trophy to add to our list of honours are watching.
Its something they should dwell on in the years to come when they revert to their true level of lower division journeymen who could have had something to show if they actually possessed any knackers
-
Does the commentator have to mention Villa every three seconds? Did they beat Wigan and Arsenal on their way here or was that a dream?
-
Does the commentator have to mention Villa every three seconds? Did they beat Wigan and Arsenal on their way here or was that a dream?
I just came on here to post something very similar to that.
It's doing my head in.
-
They'd be mentioning Wigan or Arsenal if they'd scored 4 from set pieces against them in a semi.
-
Bradford are not looking much like the side that played us.
-
2-0 Swansea
-
They've been going on about the great atmosphere all day on Sky, sounds crap to me. Then again half the crowd probably don't go regularly to games.
-
Bradford are losing? Well as much as I'd like to be grown up about this...good. They can fuck off with all the upstart nonsense they were dishing out after the semi.
-
Bradford are not looking much like the side that played us.
They didn't in the second leg first half against us, either, in fact, until half time, it looked distinctly like men against boys - Bradford hardly got out of their own half.
What won it for them was our pathetic corner weakness, and the subsequent, equally predictable meltdown, combined with some mental tactics from Lambert.
All we needed to do was keep calm and do what we did in the first half, and we'd have done enough to get past them. Our response to their goal was pathetic, on every level you want to look at it.
-
For all that the entire nation is apparently pleased with the finalists, i'm willing to bet that the TV ratings will be the lowest for years.
-
Despite my measured and mature response earlier in this thread I must point out that having been exposed to the media build up all morning I got heartily pissed off with the whole fuckin' thing and am reading the Observer and watching a Who gig from 1975.
They've just finished "Uncle Ernie" with Keith singing (badly).
-
Bradford are a total embarrassment to the competition in this final, an utter disgrace. They have been utterly terrible in the first half and thankfully their luck appears to have run out. Living in Sheffield I was facing having to have wall to wall coverage on local news channels had they won, instead they will be struggling to fill 10 seconds of airtime with their highlights. Why bother trying so hard to reach the final and then not bother having a go in the final.

Not really. As Paulie points out they are playing just as they did against us and Arsenal. Which is what you'd expect from a 4th division club. The difference is Swansea are taking their chances and keeping the set pieces down, something we failed to do.
-
Swansea have shown how it should have been done.
-
well my accumulator is looking good.... which is nice... other than that i really couldn't give a monkey's bum!

-
Indeed.
We had easily enough chances at Bradford to win the first leg comfortably, and I saw Arsenal's match there, and it's not much of an exaggeration to say it was like the Alamo, how Bradford drew that one, I don't know.
I'll also risk sounding bitter and say that, for a team supposedly buried lower in the leagues than they belong, and having the times of their lives, even before Swansea scored today, I thought the Bradford fans were the quietest I've heard on telly in ages.
I also thought they were near silent at our place until they scored.

I couldn't care less about numbers. Gregory fucked up.
-
Swansea have shown how it should have been done.
Only 2 fouls in the first half.

Duke sent off. Penalty for Swansea.

Correct. Looked the gift horse in the mouth and then fcuked up.

I wonder if Dyer and De Guzman will be having a drink together later?

While I'm sticking with The Who (Summertime Blues), I do hope our current manager is watching, and I do hope he is utterly ashamed at how low he has bought us.
-

Lambert is a bogey manager for Swansea. Beat them twice as Norwich manager aswell.
All this is showing is what an understandly limited team Bradford are away from Valley Parade. Unforgivable we couldn't beat them by two goals at Villa Park.
-
0-4. Oh dear, Bradford, looks like your luck ran out in the biggest game of the lot.

I couldn't care less about numbers. Gregory fucked up.
They are still an embarrassment to this final and to all their loyal part time fans who have shelled out for match tickets and travel today. Anyway Dave I am enjoying watching the bantams getting a right twatting even if you aren't!!
-
I wonder if Dyer and De Guzman will be having a drink together later?
De Guzman (and the ref for that matter - what's the point in sending the keeper off?!) has had a nightmare there. If someone's on a hattrick when you're already 3-0 up in a major final club rules around penalty takers go out of the window.

Ask John Gregory.

Ridiculous - they have a been a credit to their league to reach the final and their fans and players have had a great day out at wembley - credit to both teams .

Whatever but we are now 77 mins in and they have still not had a single attempt on goal either on or off target!! That my friend is my definition of a disgrace.
-
That is a difference in class between a very good premier team and a 4th tier team- swansea have done the job , bradford have had a great day out at wembley but been outclassed by a team far better and more expensive.
Credit o both clubs and sets of fans.
The disgrace is that we were beaten over 2 legs by a 4th tier team, a 4th tier team well beaten by a premier team is no disgrace.

Come on people, don't feed the troll.

I'm on to you and your cunning plan to boost your post count! :P

Not sure if I should feel sorry for them

Not sure if I should feel sorry for them
Why? They've had a cracking day out - alright they got smashed but then they should've been smashed in at least 3 of the earlier rounds but won through. There are a load of players there who'll never play at Wembley again and a load of fans who may never see their team at Wembley again. That's the stuff dreams are made of, even if they did get a thrashing.
-
So we lost to a side who lose 5-0 in the final. Credit to both sides for getting there but how shit does that make us. I think we know the answer to that one I'm afraid.

Haha. I'm just bored.

It makes us better than Manchester City.

So shit we took 4 points from a possible 6 this season against the winners?!

Its the 27 Premiership games weve played that do that, the Bradford fiasco was just another kick in the bollox in an absolute bollox season.

Europa league will be an ordeal for them

I like you style. I feel better already!

I hope their fans enjoyed their day out. I hope the chap behind the microphone at Valley Parade hated every minute of it.

They'll do well in it I reckon given how they play (even Stoke reached the knock out stages) but yeah Thursday-Sunday is tough even for established prem teams.

I hope his car broke down and he's still waiting for the RAC to turn up. Not that I'm bitter of course.

Time hasn't dulled the anger or sense of shame.
The more I think about it, the more I think every Villa player involved in that farce of a semi final should have been sacked. Every. Bastard. One.
Not the most practical of solutions, but there it is.

Have to say, although I am more pro-Lambert than most, I thought our tactics after they scored in the second leg were the most laughably embarassing tactics I've seen a Villa manager employ in years.
It was like watching a 14 year old playing Fifa 13.

Can't argue with that. It was like one of the games we had as kids in the playground where no one wants to be a midfielder never mind a defender. I'm just amazed Guzan wasn't told to be a rushing goalie.

Some are getting worked up over the prospect of Benteke leaving.
I'm not. He was involved in that total shambles - in fact missed shed loads of chances that could have got us over the line comfortably. So he can fuck off. They all can.
Decent player, wouldn't be at all surprised to eventually see him at Bayern Munich or similar. But I have no emotional attachment to the current crop of players. The horror of those two nights will stay with us for decades.
-
Fair play to Swansea, that's how it's done.

And he didn't mark properly for the 3rd goal.
Whenever I feel vaguely optimistic about staying up I think of that game at Bradford and know we are doomed.
