God ( no , not McGrath ! ) only knows how long the much maligned but now sorely needed Richard Dunne will be out and given that be we are desperate for an experienced CH , I submit the below list of Defenders currently available through free agency . One or two surprises I must say ( e.g.Drenthe ) however , maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can ' Spot the Savior ' amongst those names ...if any !
................Godzvilla!
p.s...For anyone interested there is info on all these players at
http://www.footballtransferleague.co.uk/football_club.aspx?football_club=Unattached
( just click on the Players name ) .
Defenders
Alan Maybury
Bob Malcolm
Breno Borges
Fabio Grosso
Francisco Pavon
Gary Borrowdale
Gonzalo Sorondo
Habib Beye
Hermann Hreidarsson
Ivar Ingimarsson
James Cullingworth
Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe
John Mensah
Juanito
Kenny Strickland
Mamadou Seck
Michael Ball
Michael Hart
Miguel Monteiro
Mikael Silvestre
Ricardo Gardner
Royston Drenthe
Rui Marques
Salaheddine Sbai
Sammy Kuffour
Sammy Traore
Takura Mtandari
Timothee Atouba
-
I thought that Silvestre went to MLS
...... Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe; with a name like that he'd definitely fit in at Villa ................we're all Doumbe'd
-
Habib Beye?!
:-)
-
I notice Robert Pires is available.
-
Ched Evans might have a bit of bother getting to games.....
-
That lad Beye looks a prospect.
Sammy Kafour was a cracking played.
-
If that Sammy Traore is the one who played for Mali last night he is big brutal and a beast in the air. Otherwise Mensah looks an intelligent suggestion.
-
Michael Ball was a good player until he met that bird. Love changes everything.
Sorry
-
I would sign Atouba like a shot just to have somebody in the squad called Timothee.
-
How can Hitz be "unattached" when he was on the bench for Everton yesterday ?
-
I know fuck all, I'd have bought Johnny Heitanga before yesterday
-
Ched Evans?
-
Ched Evans?
Touch of a rapist
-
He might be 35, but I'd take Fabio Grosso.
-
...... Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe; with a name like that he'd definitely fit in at Villa ................we're all Doumbe'd
Played for Celtic, scored a winner against Rangers. Other than that he was shite for them.
There are a few players there who aren't that bad. Getting on a bit, but could bring us some experience and quality.
-
He might be 35, but I'd take Fabio Grosso.
I would too, just for the fact that being as he is an Italian defender he could show Clark how to really wrestle with attackers in his own penalty area.
-
He might be 35, but I'd take Fabio Grosso.
Was he a tall left back? If so I'd take him as well.
-
I love the suggestion, but if Lambert couldn't be arsed bringing one in last month then he won't bother now.
-
Ched Evans?
One for the future, and probably hungry and cheap.
Fits the present criteria.
-
Zambrotta is currently unattached.
35, and prob not as quick as he was in his prime. But would still be an upgrade on our current options.
-
Zambrotta is currently unattached.
He may have won more or less everything at club level but he's no Simon Dawkins.
-
Send the link into VP, FAO Paul Lambert.
-

How very sad but true (great suggestion by the way)!
-
John Mensah is quality, but he has very dodgy knees!
-
Yeah if Mensah could be fit for 10 games (just the ones we have a chance in!) till the end of the season it would be worth it.
As would Grosso at left back.
-
I would take Reo Coker too still.
-
What a garbage list.
I would've been happy with Paul Scharner tbh before Wigan got interested. Ca play RB, CB and defensive midfield and surely Wigan won't be paying him that much on loan from Hamburg.
-
That lad Beye looks a prospect.
We should put him on 40k a week and never play him!
-
I'd go for Marco Gabbiadini
-
Ched Evans is SHA bound surely?
-
I think that list is a bit out of date. For example it looks like Mensah is now at Rennes, Silvestre is playing in India, Kuffour retired for the second time in 2009, Grosso retired in the summer along with Pavon and Juanito etc.
Its a market that I'd like to see us go for as its now the only way we could strengthen the squad before the end of the season - I just can't see many options available.
-
Ron Benson and Tony Hedges going spare
What is Lambert playing at?

Ron Benson and Tony Hedges going spare
What is Lambert playing at?
He desperately needs an assistant manager called Butler to advise him.
-
Ched Evans?
One for the future, and probably hungry and cheap.
Fits the present criteria.
There is something wrong and banjo playing about anybody called Ched ;)
-

Didnt he play for Sunderland Brian? The best of that list for the centre half position.

Interesting to play around and waste some time!

Looking at the LB's, Jon Harley looked like he was going to be star about 10 years ago
-
Michalik is big and would not get battered about like Clark is doing.
