A positive thread giving one sentence as to why you think we'll stay up.
I think we'll stay up because I see shoots to recovery in recent performances and we just need to put it together for a whole game not just a half.
-
Crack pipe ahoy.
-
If you believe we will stay up then you must also believe in Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, the Villa Midfield.
-
I think we will stay up because.......
....you can't lie down, you have to take your medicine, dust your'sel dwon and go again.
-
Er ... Nope .
-
I think we will stay up because.......
...actually, we're fucked.
-
Wills and Davie C will pass a law making it illegal for us to finish in the bottom 3. Otherwise, off with their heads.
-
Stay Up ...at this rate we be lucky not to finish Bottom
-
errr ...... positive thread.

Stay Up ...at this rate we be lucky not to finish Bottom
More likely to finish bottom than 17th i think.

In all seriousness, please explain the 'shoots of recovery in recent performances' because I'd love to be positive as well.
How long is recent...since Spurs or Wigan ?

Errrr....reality check- calling lovejoy back to earth from planet cuckoo land !
-
I think we will stay up because.......
Lerner will sack Lambert
heh, that's more insane than thinking we'll stay up actually.
-
I think we will stay up because .... I've asked Derek Acorah to look into his crystal ball and he saw us winning the Champions League in two years.
-
I'm Insane.
-
I think we will stay up because we have a brilliant, tactically aware manager, and the defence will magically sort itself up. I also believe eastie when he says that lots of money is available, and Lambert will spend that today and tomorrow on bringing in a world class defender and midfielder.
-
Because I am high.

Never said lots of money risso- at least £10m , - we are down anyway , should have strengthened earlier this month - 2 points from 12 this month have killed us.
-
Because Lambert will have an epiphany and realise that CHANGING THE FUCKING FORMATION EVERY BASTARD GAME DOES NOT WORK especially as we have such an inexperienced team who cant get used to a sytem / formation before its changed again, and end up running around not really having a clue where they should be or what there role in the new formation is!
-
errr ...... positive thread.
It's a nice try, lovejoy.
Unfortunately there are too many who refuse to believe we can stay up, or want us to go down so they can say "Told you so"
I'm a Mr Positive, and I will say that I'm struggling, but, you are right. I don't actually think we're as bad as some make out. We're not brilliant, and the results are poor, to say the least. But, in parts, we do play some good stuff. If we could put in a 90 minute performance, instead of 45 we'll be okay.

Second half last night, first half against Bradford and WBA. Although I din't see it we were comfortable against Millwall for most of the game apparently. How were we against Ipswich second half?
Right I agree none of these are full games but I honestly think we've got the makings of a reasonable mid table side, it just needs a few experienced heads to act as leaders (N'Zog, Bent, Vlaar, Dunne).
if we get on the teams backs during games (which we haven't done so far) we will go down.
I also think, and forgive my stereotype, but Brummies are natural pessimists.
-
Because PL will now play the formation we had in the 2nd half last night for the rest of the season.

Ridiculous- nobody on here wants us to go down!

Well said. Also, in no way should we have last to Southampton. They were no better than us.
Also, not sure if its a Brummie thing, just Villa fans.

If we don't go down this year then it only delays the inevitable. Whether that wakes Lerner up into selling fast or spending money I don't know. The future is very uncertain for AVFC. The worry is if he sells quickly to whoever bids the highest we could easily end up with a Carson Yeung esque fraudster..

Not sure on that one , i think if we survive this season with the experience gained we would probably see a steady improvement next season - sadly though i dont think we will get to find out.

A 4th division and two 2nd division teams. You do realise that they aren't in the Premier League and are therefore not that relevant when it comes to talking about staying up?
-
I like this positivity thread...
We have shown in quite a few games this season what we are capable of, but just can't do it for a full 90 minutes. Get it together for the 90 and we will stay up.
Norwich, Fulham and even West Ham are really struggling as well and not too far ahead.
Reading and QPR have had a bit of a mini-revival, yet are still behind us.
Southampton and Wigan are teams that could easily go 5-6 games without winning.
We still have two days to get Doc's Delorean and go back to 1993/94 era and bring Paul 'God' McGrath back.

What a load of old shit.
there is not a single fan who WANTS us to go down, and certainly not so they can say 'I told you so'.
A lot of fans though, are realists, and fear the worst.
-
My nan said that if you cannot say something positive, don't say anything at all.
She wasn't a Villa fan.

I think you would be good on Fighting Talk - doing the defending the indefensible slot.
-
Yes Nigel I'm sure there's lots of fans who want us to go down, that's why noone seems to be remotely bothered about how badly we're doing.....

I honestly think that's the most idiotic thing I've read on here for ages.

I know we all argue a lot on here, but Christ almighty, I'd never suggest some of us actually *want* us to get relegated.
Utter bollocks.
-
I really, really, really don't want us to be relegated.
I've had countless shit days this season and last thanks to the Villa and I sometimes wake up and think about it in the middle of the night. People here would think i'm mad if they knew.
So i don't care for "I told you so's", in fact i'm more pissed of at how utterly fucking predictable this whole thing is other than to those that can actually do something about it.
-
Who would they be saying 'told you so' to in any case? Pretty much everybody thinks we're going down, whether they back the manager or not.
-
I think we will stay up because I am too stupid and stubborn to give up just yet.
-
I think we will stay up because I can't contemplate existing in a universe where Robbie Savage is proven right. Ever. About anything.
-
I think we'll stay up because we're only in the relegation places on goal difference, having suffered the worst run we've ever had which surely to god it must end soon.
I think the players, after last night's second half performance will believe they have it in them to do it and we'll see a miraculous result at Goodison like............ Legion to the thread please....
-
I think we'll stay up because......in the 2nd half yesterday it looked like the players have finally realised that they are going to have to fight and battle to stay up, before this they didnt seem to notice (or care).
-
My name is Napoleon. Wibble!
-
....because in order to offset the cognitive dissonance I will create an alternate universe where normal logic and sense applies at the Villa, and Lambert and Lerner address the blindingly obvious.
-
"... we just will." Lambert, P.
-
I believe we'll stay up thanks to a mix of blind faith, insanity, crack cocaine and denial.
I also flatly refuse to wave the white flag this early. Plus, if I want the players to fight to the end and believe they can stay up then I should be the same.
Nurse!
-
Because I'm Optimistic, like Radiohead.
-
because I think we'll get into the champions league.
Sorry, thought you was asking about my FIFA season.
-
I am (almost) resigned to relegation but the fact that we are not cut adrift in spite of probably the worst run in our history gives me some glimmer of hope
Four wins and a few draws might just be enough? Surely we can beat QPR and a few of the clubs with nothing to play for (Fulham, Norwich, West Ham?) and grab a few surprise draws (Liverpool, Everton?) Say that leaves us on 34 points on the last day of the season, beat Wigan and we'd have a chance of staying up on 37 points. We also have to go to Reading so that is another game that could yield us some points.
These are all big ifs and we simply have to get a minimum of three points from our next too.
Clutching at straws now.... If they had bought a defender and midfielder we'd all fancy our chances.
It is incredibly stupid of the club to have let things slide.
-
...I dream of us landing 2 or 3 experienced defenders and midfielders before the transfer day deadline tomorrow
-
I have almost resigned myself to relegation, but anyone know the latest odds on us staying up ?
**work does not allow access to gambling sites.

I think we'll stay up because I've got a 12 inch cock, am shagging Cheryl Cole and I have more money than I know what to do with.
-
We will stay up because...
I put money on us going down. It's saved us the last two seasons at any rate.
-
Doug will ensure the Preeemier League directors each wake up to a horse's head in their beds over the summer

We'll keep fighting. Fight, fight wherever you may be.........

I think we will stay up because I can't contemplate existing in a universe where Robbie Savage is proven right. Ever. About anything.
Balls. I'd forgotten about that. Savage said that months ago too, before things really went wrong. He's going to be crowing about this come May (April).
-
......the whole team have taken viagra?? ;D

I dont think so. They forced him to make a retraction after the Liverpool game. I think the BBC must have had a word with their pundits and told them not to make bold predictions about this or that team being relegated. The net result is that you alienate some of the punters, and give the impression that the BBC is `biased'.
Talkshite don't care because they are desperate for the attention. But it taints the BBC's impartiality to be seen to knock any particular club.
-
I think we will stay up because.... aliens will come from outer space and declare war on earthlings, resulting in the suspension of all footballing activities worldwide until war is at an end.
When war is over in early January 2015 and the earthlings have won because the aliens forgot to bring a packed lunch and starved to death and the football season re-commences, some captured prisoners-of-war aliens decide to settle here and Villa become the first club to sign a non-human player in the January transfer window - a nine-foot tall, brick-shithouse-esque target man with more pace than Usain Bolt. Opponents have no idea how to deal with this new found attacking focus and Villa climb the table to safety.
As you can tell, I'm currently resigned to the club's fate, sadly.

We'll stay up if we stick together, stay positive and get fortress Villa Park up and running. It's time for us to draw a line in the sand and get the club rocking. It can be done.
Also, everyone stick some money on Villa to go down, lose every up coming match etc. to mess up Sod's Law/Murphy's Law/karma etc. We are not going down!!

I came out of Villa Park yesterday and I heard people saying, basically, If it means going down to get rid of Lambert I hope we do!

I agree with Paulie that nobodey seriously wants that to happen
-
Dave Cameron and William will come up with a plan to buy Aston Villa and become Royal Aston Villa and any journalist or ex players saying bad things about Aston Villa will be send to the Tower of London for treason and will have Robbie Savage as company.

You're probably right Glasses, but, they still say it and they still write it, so for him to say it's bo**cks is rubbish.
And as a moderator shouldn't be so abusive!!
Maybe they say it because it takes the pressure off in the p**s taking stakes, I don't know.
I would never say anything like that anyway and nearly all my mates are bluenoses.
The 'Told you so' is a figure of speech comment, not one to be taken so matter of factly.

Point taken there. The quote shading makes it difficult for me to distinguish responses in multiple quotes. I don't consider it abusive either way.
-
Going by last night, they have addressed the problem of the half time team talk.
Not too long now before the good first 45 is linked to an even better second 45. (And Extra Time)
-
To add to my earlier effort, I would also add that we're in the worse run I've ever known, yet we're still in touch with plenty of teams around us.
-
Our poor run does not look likely to end, whilst all those around us are picking up unexpected points.
-
Our poor run does not look likely to end, whilst all those around us are picking up unexpected points.
That's not keeping to the title of the thread surely.
Unexpected points, but still right by us and we're still in touch with them. It's nowhere near over yet.
-
Its mathematically possible at this moment! Also there are several teams down at the bottom and other teams could lose alot of matches. :)!
-
... because there are other shite teams too.
Frankly I think this is the best reason. We've been pretty dire for most of the season, but we have mostly (though not now) been outside the relegation zone. A repeat of last season's 38 points and we'll probably be pretty comfortable.

Stamina required Eastie! We've got to keep battling. You're right about the fans, the support is top notch.

..... Lerner will wake up from his deep sleep tomorrow, look at the league table and our terrible results in the last five weeks and take the urgent, remedial action a billionaire owner and custodian is obliged to do while he still has the opportunity.

There's still 14 games to go to s.o.s.
-
We have signed Yacouba Sylla.
-
We will stay up because we have a good proven manager - some excellent players - and a lot of kids. We will also stay up because there are at least 3 teams who are weaker than us.
Our kids are on a steep learning curve and will make mistakes - but as long as they learn from them they will get stronger. If we can take the second 45 from last night - and repeat it for the remainder of the season we will survive - and if we do - we will get better and better.
The gunfire is close - time to stand firm and show the team and the world what support can achieve.
It's either that or calling everyone to do with the club cnuts and saying I told you so.
I prefer the first option.

Sylla is our saviour!

Because like QPR, Wigan, Southampton and Reading before us we are having a turn at being 'club most likely to go down on current form'.

Because Sylla's mother said
Sylla's busy, too busy to come to the phone
Sylla's mother says Sylla's trying, to start a new life of her own
Sylla's mother says Sylla's happy, so why don't you leave her alone
And the operator says Forty cents more, for the next three minutes
Sylla's mother says Sylla's packing, she's going be leaving today
Sylla's mother says Sylla's marrying, a fellow down Galveston-Way
Sylla's mother says Please don't say nothing, to make her start crying and stay
And the operator says Forty cents more, for the next three minutes
Sylla's mother says Sylla's hurrying, she's catching the nine o'clock train
Sylla's mother says Take your umbrella, cause Sylla it's starting to rain
And Sylla's mother says Thank you for calling and sir won't you come back again
And the operator says Forty cents more, for the next three minutes

... there will be a miracle.
-
Because Charles N'Zogbia has started to look like he gives a shit.

The defence will suddenly tighten up, we wont concede from a corner for the rest of the season, Barry Bannan, will come from nowhere to pick up the player of the season award, and we`ll get every 50/50 decision going. I know this because the Tree-stump fairies told me.
-
Because we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen.

We may be the greatest club but we certainly don't have the greatest team

We'll stay up because I can sense the the pride of the Villa supporters won't allow this team to drop.

That will make a big difference. He owes us after letting us all down last season.

I've changed my mind. I think we'll stay up now - the form is just returning at the right time after yesterday even allowing for the annoying equalizer. I'll be right on this believe me!!! We'll get 41 points that's my prediction.

We will stay up because we have turned a massive corner. Second half v Geordies and then yesterday. We should have been out of sight if Weimann had of put his chance away. We ended up getting a point instead of three, it is still a point that according to the poll 75% of us never thought we would get.
No worries. We will stop up, next season we will be a lot better with the same manager and , if we are fortunate, 3-4 new faces in the summer. Happy days will return to VP, of this i am sure. Its been a bitch of a season so far. Just back the lads and keep some faith. UTV

Because will score more than we will let in.
It's gonna be very exciting.
COME ON YOU LIONS
-
We will pick up points and our fellow cellar dwellars have some hard games coming up.
-
If we start being more expansive in our attacking play and adventurous we can score goals. We showed that against Everton. We were direct, quick and sharp in attack at times. Using the width more too will be advantageous. Lambert cannot blindly continue trying to avoid using the flanks. Attack, attack, attack.
Our defence is terrible but if we get the best out of our front men and give them plenty of service we should win a good share of our remaining fixtures. There's games, the next one included, we need to be expecting, demanding, 3 points from.
And if it doesn't work? Hell, for entertainments value, I'll take a few more 3-3 draws.
So yep, for me the defence is a dodo. There's no salvaging it with the players we have. Concentrate on our attack. Be direct. Sometimes we're to contemplative on the ball, too slow and nothing comes from it.
Charles is hitting form in good time. Gabby's playing well. Benteke is on fire too.

I have a smidgen of hope again too. I hope they do not do anything to extinguish it, but instead fuel the flame.
-
We will stay up because ...fuck you!
-
Considering all the cliches trotted out abour Fergiscum and holding our nerve
I do actually think long term PL will be very good for us - the expectancy he has to learn to live with just like the players
we just need to stay up - by whatever means
-

Was that a signing I missed?
-
Yes, Korean centre half.

Surprise points like Saturday fill me with hope. If we could get surprise points against Arsenal and Liverpool surely we'd get four wins and a few draws from : West Ham, Fulham, Reading, Sunderland, QPR, Fulham, Norwich and Wigan.
-
we have a third of a season to go. first third was okish, second third was atrocious. there are lots of good signs, ie we can score goals, now to shore up at the back a bit!

I think we're going to stay up because Dunne is going to return in a blaze of glory, and with rising defensive midfield superstar Sylla, hit it off and meet a date with destiny, combining to make our once feeble defence water tight again; meaning we keep 7 clean sheets in a row. Meanwhile, our midfield suddenly evolves into a cohesive unit, as Sylla's defensive midfield play also links up well with Westwood and Dawkins, dispelling our delusions that we can't adapt and control midfield.
A combination of N'Zogbia suddenly realising that the instruction 'run at the defence' wasn't quite as literal as he'd understood it, medical experts suddenly discovering Gabby is a narcoleptic sleepwalker and supplying appropriate medication, and Lambert suddenly discovering that not only do birds and red bull have wings, means all the pieces of the puzzle come together.
With our defence and midfield now functioning to be able to defend and create chances, and our young guns having finally found their get up and go again (it turns out it was a cereal), our potent attacking force of the four horsemen, and Bent, and that other chap, go on a goal scoring frenzy that shoots us up the league and to mid table safety.
At the end of the season, with Premiership status and money secured, Lerner cuts his loses (and the tattoo off his leg) and sells up, to a Villa fans consortium that had just won the Euro lottery quadruple roll-over, with a little money from Tom Hanks, Nigel Kennedy, Mervin King and Prince William too. (David Cameron did ask to join but was told to 'do one')
The next season Lambert goes on to win the treble, with a young team that is set to dominate the Premiership and Europe for years to come, with the Champions League and that World Club Championship thing becoming a regular fixture at Villa park.
Lambert finally gets a knighthood and elocution lessons for his services to Villa and football in general, and most of the Villa fans, who also now own the club and are all rich, finally end up happy, now being the biggest football club in the world, lauded for their beautiful football.
The end...?

I had a weird surge of positivity this morning, I looked at our next five games and I think we'll win four. I've got no basis for that, just a feeling.
-
I've changed my Villa calendar at work. January was just unlucky, but we'll be fine from now on and we're always good in March and April.

I would settle for that.

Surprisingly, I am a little more positive then I was about the West Ham game. What the team needs more then anything is not just a win, but a convincing win. If they can get that, then it MIGHT be the start of a decent run.
