Anyone watch the Grand Slam in Wolverhampton last week?
See Ted Hankey get a 5-0white washing against that dutch fella, Van Gerwen? Hankey played an absolute shocker, averaged 59 and even missed the board twice, sparking criticism that he was pissed up. Even the bookies stopped paying out because he was playing so poorly. The crowd were giving him some stick and some of the comments he received on twitter were merciless.
Turns out he'd had a stroke.
get well soon, The Count
-
Used to go every year until Sky waded in, and now the price is ridiculous.
Get well soon The count
-
Bloody hell! I marked one of his games in the BDO classic in 2009 (I had been knocked out first round)! and then a few months later he won the BDO World Champs on BBC. I didnt see this game but I did see him beat Stevie Beaton in the round robin stage and I thought he looked in good nick!
All the very best the Count, get well soon!
-
Anyone watching the 2013 Championships?
Fancy Whitlock to win.
-
Nine darter by Van Gerwen tonight. And he almost repeated it in the next leg. Missing double 12.
Amazingly he lost that particular set.
Taylor vs Barney in a bit. Should be good.
-
They nearly had a punch up at the end. Barney's a mentalist.
-
There's only one word for that: magic darts!
-
They nearly had a punch up at the end. Barney's a mentalist.
Taylor is an awkward arrogant tool mind, I wouldn't mind slapping him a few times.
A reasonable darts player. Van Gerwen to win final.
-
Its almost evens at the bookies.
-
I lost any respect i had for Taylor last night, the interview after the match was toe curlingly embarrasing.
The sucking up that Sky do to him reminds me far too much of Alex Ferguson.
I really, really hope van Gerwen destroys him, although Taylor already got his excuses in during the interview.
-
i see he's apolagised now, says his behavour was a disgrace, he looked really quite down when interviewed, certainly not in the right frame of mind to go into a final
could be the passing of the crown tomorow night, as Gerwen looks to be the real deal and could be for some years to come
-
Wish I had the power of my convictions when Taylor was 11/4 after only 2 legs.
Could well turn out to be a classic, so glad I have to get up for work in 6 hours.

My thoughts exactly - the bookies lost the plot and got carried away with the hype of someone in their first world championship final. Taylor won it despite being way off his best.
Absolute legend. If he'd done what he's done in any other sport he'd be talked of as one of the greatest sportsmen to have ever lived.
-
Van Gerwen won last night, that win before the break was the turning point of the game.
He will be a champion for many, many years to come.
-
Well, fuck me sideways!
-
What happened?
-
Phil "The Sex Pest" Taylor got knocked out in the second round.
-
You'd still assume the bottom half will be won by Lewis or MVG.
The top half is wide open, stuck £2.50 E/W on Huybrechts at 25/1.

I am a Taylor fan but don't have a preference who wins it - I just hope MVG isn't the winner - can't stick him.

Eastie do you post under the username Bakwaas on The Guardian's site?

Only on a full moon ;)
-
First match my missus has ever watched and Taylor gets knocked out, great stuff.
Lewis hasn't been in great form has he, so MVG must be favourite. Hope Anderson wins it, but his doubles will probably mean that he doesn't.
-
The tungsten was of high quality last night.
Peter Wright may just be the answer from his half of the draw. He continues to play as he has been, and he'll likely get to the final.
-
Van Gerwen throwing awesome tungsten for first 3 sets, then going off boil a bit in 4th.
That's my only reservation about backing him, he does go through the occasional trough, and against a Lewis or Whitlock he could lose a vital set or two because of it.

Wade v Lewis will be a cracker - I'd like to see the winner win the title.
-
I reckon Lewis will blow Wade away.

I reckon Lewis will blow Wade away.
Hope so. Can't stand Wade for some reason I can't quite put my finger on.
-
I'm not a Lewis fan either.
Would like to see the 'beard to be feared' crowned the winner.
-
Lewis 3-0 up
-
A new experience for Whitlock tonight. Turning up to a match in which his was the more sensible haircut.
-

I laughed out loud at this. Classic!!
-
Will it be a Wright wash. Currently 4-0 to mvg
-
Not watching the final- anyone but MVG - can't stand him.
-
Wright misses double tops for 3-4, he's 5-2 down. That was the match there.
-
Anyway, the proper darts is underway now.
If you enjoy seeing players hit plenty of 5's and 1's that is.
-
It's a struggle watching the BDO after the PDC Championship. They're so much worse at it. Suppose it's because they all have proper jobs as they can't afford to go fully-professional, like the PDC players can.

I take the piss out of the BDO, but do feel some sympathy for it. The few seriously talented players that come through will inevitably be lured by the bright lights of the PDC. The BDO still has a place in the sport. It's excellent for amateur players who just like a game of darts really. I really don't think it should be calling itself the professional championship though. The standard is laughable really, and the whole coverage surrounding it is so outdated and half hearted.
Of course its all borne out of Ollie Croft, and his/the boards refusal to move with the times in the late eighties/early nineties. If it wasn't for the players breaking away, then darts as a whole would be in a pretty sorry state.
-
Some cracking darts in the women's final.
-
My Missus was happy that Bumting (Bunting) AKA Peter Griffin won the darts.
-
Lakeside Champion Stephen Bunting has switched to PDC. Be interesting to see how he gets on. Hopefully better than Ted Hankey who recently switched back to BDO.
-
Hopefully better than Ted Hankey who recently switched back to BDO.
Don't watch much darts but please tell me that Ted Hankey's nickname is "The Christmas Poo"
-
Disappointingly not. He's "The Count". Can't remember if it's because he looks like a vampire of if it's because he's good at maths. Maybe both.
-

I always thought it was because he's dyslexic.
-
I thought Hankey had a stroke during a game and doesn't play now?
-
My mistake, just Googled and he is back playing.
-
Premier league starts again tonight in Liverpool.
-
Looking forward to MVG vs. Taylor.
I think MVG is my favourite sportsman at the moment. Explosive character.
-
what was the reason Wade got left out, he's world number 4 isn't he ?
he is a bit boring mind, never the less should be down to merit
-
I think there are some guaranteed spots, maybe the top 2/3, but I could be wrong.
Other entries are voted in. He didn't get enough votes.
It's just a bit different, isn't it?
-
Michael van Gerwen 7 (seven) Feel "the sex pest" Taylor 0.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha.
-
MVG thrashing Taylor was funny, but I also thought that Barney played very well.
-
Michael van Gerwen 7 (seven) Feel "the sex pest" Taylor 0.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha.
Michael Van Gurning!!
Taylor will no doubt blame his new darts. Looked like he'd lost a pound or 2 as well - reckons he's spent the winter "training" in Portugal.
-
Taylor dumped out the UK Open in round 3 by the world number 141, a bloke i've never heard of before.
-
Losing to a bloke who doesn't even has his own Wikipedia page. Taylor is the Manyew of darts.
-
The Jenkins/Van Gerwin match was a bit of a cracker.
-
The final was a bit one sided.
-

James Wade has hit out at the decision to omit him from the 10-player field for this year's Premier League.
The left-hander, who won the competition in 2009, was not awarded a wildcard by the PDC or Sky due to his well-documented mental health issues.
PDC chairman Barry Hearn insisted it was in Wade's best interests to be given a break from the pressures of travelling and competing in the 16-week tournament, which starts on February 6.
But Wade, who has been a regular in the Premier League since his debut in 2008, admitted he was "devastated" by the snub and dismissed rumours that he had turned down a place in the competition.
"I am obviously bitterly disappointed not to be included in the Premier League Darts line-up for the first time in seven years," he said.
"The news is devastating, particularly as I feel I was one of the four most consistent players in 2013, reaching the semi-finals in many televised tournaments, including the Premier League play-offs.
"Since Barry Hearn broke the news live on Sky Sports, there has been a large amount of speculation across media and social media platforms regarding the reasons of my omission.
"I would like to take this opportunity to clear up some confusion and confirm that I did not ask to be left out of the 2014 Premier League, nor did I decline an invitation as a lot of people are asking myself and my family.
"Further to this, I feel it is important to add that no medical professional has suggested I take a break either. My mental health issues have been well documented but my condition is manageable and I have all the right support systems around me.
"I have no choice now but to accept the decision made by the PDC and Sky Sports and work to make sure I am not in this position again.
"I have been working harder than ever on my game recently and this has come as a major blow but I will strive to climb back into the top four as soon as possible, where recent history suggests I belong.
"Finally, I would like to thank my fans, family and my sponsors for their continued support both in the past and in the last 24 hours and I look forward to competing on TV again in the UK Open in March and all other televised PDC major events this year."
-
If they're admitting they refused to pick him due to his disability couldn't he take them to a tribunal to get compensation?
-
He's been quite open about his mental issues and his stay in the Priory. He even changed his "walk on" music to Dizzie Rascal's "Bonkers"
I'm no fan of his though
-
He also has a ludicrously hot girlfriend.
Sammi Marsh. Google and weep.
-
I was looking through the PDC Order of Merit (World Rankings) and couldn't help noticing this player's name:-
Current Ranking No. 118 Dick van Dijk
-
Another 9 darter from Taylor last night at Blackpool. His 10th televised 9 darter.
I bet you were all watching the Commonwealth athletes mincing around Parkhead while the darts was on?
Michael Van Gerwin played Vincent Van Der Vort the night before.
MVG v VVDV
-
Has Stephen Bumting (Bunting) played Gary Anderson yet? Would like to see that match.
-
Has Stephen Bumting (Bunting) played Gary Anderson yet? Would like to see that match.
Anderson won 13-8. Chucked ten 180s in the match
Even by darts standards, Bunting looks particularly thick and unhealthy.
Anderson v Jackpot Lewis in the quarters tomorrow night
-
Two 9 dart finishes in one game in a double-in-double-out format tonight.
I'm not a great darts enthusiast but even I can admit that that was impressive.
-
Pleased to see Lewis go out to 'The Artist' Kevin Painter.
Not so pleased that miserable James Wade got through.
-
Calling him "miserable" when he's bipolar is a bit mean!
-
Calling him "miserable" when he's bipolar is a bit mean!
If he's bipolar shouldn't he be cheerful some of the time at least?
-
I've got tickets for the PDC World Championships ( the Sky one) at Alexandra Palace in December. Tickets for me and my 8 year old son in the "family enclosure"
Didn't know they had family enclosures at the darts. I'd better be allowed to get pissed and wave cardboard signs about. Can't wait!

Great stuff, let us know how you get on.
-
brilliant. I'd love to take my oldest in a year or two.
-
Starts again on Sky tonight.
-
Excellent. The sporting highlight of the Christmas period, given that Villa never win at this time of the year and Da Bears are out of playoff contention.
-
We're going on the 30th for the 3rd round.
-
Excellent. The sporting highlight of the Christmas period, given that Villa never win at this time of the year and Da Bears are out of playoff contention heading for an excellent draft pick next year.
-
Good to see proper darts back on the BBC, and Taylor seems to have got his mojo back the daft sex pest.
-
Surely a candidate for one of the greatest champions in any sport.
-
'The Power' got a 5 nil drilling last night! He's already through to the last 16 of the Grand Slam but still, didn't see that coming, especially from Darren Webster.
250/1 for that result before the game apparently!
-
Whoops!
Stupid boy Eric! (https://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/nov/29/eric-bristow-loses-sky-sports-role-twitter-sex-abuse-story-comments)
-
Classic case of thinking out loud what he would do in that position, but never having been in that position has no authority to speak about it.
-

I read earlier that Bristow has a track record for having a low opinion of footballers
-
World Championship starts on Thursday night
-
I'm sure I replied to that, saying I wanted anyone but Taylor/MVG to win.
Wonder what thread I ended up posting it on.
-
I'd like Stephen Bunting to win cos he looks like a proper darts man - and the fella out of Family Guy
http://images.dartprofis.de/news/250/PDC_Dart-WM_2015_Day_5_Stephen_Bunting.jpg
-
Still Taylor for me, but as an outside shout I'll go for Chisnall.
-
Decent start, enjoyed the Smith match.
-
Decent start, enjoyed the Smith match.
Surprisingly high standard of darts. And you've gotta feel sorry for Mark Frost. Anyone with the nickname Frosty the Throwman deserved to progress in the tournament
-
I think Frosty enjoyed himself, at least. Approaching it with the mentality of a Sunday League team going to play Barcelona meant defeat was never going to affect him too badly.
-
Fantastic game tonight, Cadby v Cullen. World class standard. Cadby must be a future world champion? Even though he lost
-
Oh, and Alan Norris' nickname is almost as good as Frosty's.
-
Arguably the match of the first round so far. King and West was pretty good too.
On a side note, is Darren Webster called 'Demolition Man' as he looks a bit like Bob the Builder?
-
I thought it was because he looks like Sylvester Stallone.
-
First german starts tonight in the Prelims, looking forward to see "Barney".
-
Just need MVG to get knocked out now and the darts will be perfect. Like Anderson, Wright and Barney.
-
I'd like Wright to win it, always nice to see a new champion.
Delighted that the Predator got knocked out.
-
I'm gunning for RvB.
The standard this year has been fantastic.
-
I'm away so haven't seen any of it this year but the standard for the last few years has been at a ridiculously high level. Much as I don't like the guy, Phil "The Predator" Taylor must take the majority of the credit for this.
I hope RVB wins, a complex guy at times but he retains a huge following.
-
Someone holding an " Up The Villa" sign in the crowd at the Wright v Anderson game just now.
-
There's a Villa flag been in the crowd most nights.
-
Someone holding an " Up The Villa" sign in the crowd at the Wright v Anderson game just now.
Behind Anderson's partner, so may be one of the players family members.
-
Anyway, what's the score? The missus is annoyingly watching the Kardashians FFS
-
4-3 Anderson, but he should have won this 6-1.
-
5-3 now. Looking forward to MvG V RvB after this.
-
anderson always comes good for the Worlds. The blind fecker.
-
Hoping MVG bottles the Final
-
Barney averaged 109, had a very high double success rate and took out a number of 100+ finishes.
And he got battered.
Ridiculous standard from MVG. Best I've ever seen, over a serious-length match.
-
I'm off to watch the premier league final at the Dome/02 tonight. Fancy MVG to win
-
I'll catch it on telly. Peter Wright has been in great form recently and Gary Anderson seemed flat last week. You've got to look at MVG though because no-one will stop him if he's firing. Strange to think that Phil Taylor is probably not even worth a mention nowadays.
-
Having got rid of Sky a year ago I had no idea this had even happened and who was where. Strange to think a sport I thoroughly enjoyed can solely be appreciated through one medium only.

The premier league plays to packed out arenas up and down the country every week. There will be 20,000 at the 02 tonight.
-
Didn't they have one in Holland too? The atmosphere in Aberdeen was brilliant last week.

I'm not knocking it and that stat kind of enhances my point. If you ain't got Sky you are not finding out about these results in any other fashion. Obviously you can google it but unlike most sports that gather this kind of crowd/Sky tvcoverage you don't really read about it in the papers, hear about it on the news or radio or indeed see it on the mainstream news/sports websites. I have literally heard nothing about this since getting rid of Sky.
-

Yeah, Rotterdam. Packed house as well, all in orange shirts, singing "shtand hup if you love the dartsh"

Absolutely right. Catch 22 though. The Sky money raised the standard of competition, fills the arenas but cuts off the majority of tv viewers. Sounds familiar

Indeed. It is why I am still mightily pissed off that test matches in the cricket were not retained as something that has to be shown on terrestrial tv. If you think back to 2005, the Ashes mattered far more than the first month of the football season because Channel 4 or 5 were covering it.

I think it was Giles Clarke when ECB chairman who agreed to this. Now most people will agree that it in the short term it's good for the game, more money, better analysis, more competitive cricket etc etc. But long term it is going to affect the amount of youngsters getting into the game.
-
Gutted for Peter Wright - 6 darts was it at double 16/8 and he bottled it.
Still if Phil Taylor had have taken his dart to win in their semi he wouldn't have got to the final.
The venue didn't look full though
-
Wright completely bottled it.
Glad the Sex Pest is retiring. I saw him trying to tell Wright off yesterday for interacting with the crowd, even though he's constantly smiling and joking with the crowd... when things are going his way. He's always been a dick.
-
The venue didn't look full though
It wasn't, I'd say 75 percent full. It's too big and the atmosphere gets lost. Alexandra Palace is a much better venue. Great night though, a bit woolly-headed this morning though after drinking about 9 pints of cider at £6 a pint
-
wade 10 - 10 Webster in the 2017 World Matchplay. been a good match. Sudden death...
-
Just v Anderson was decent; both players averaging around 100.
Wade out too.
-
Currently MvG 1 - 8 Taylor!
-
Shit The Bed! right how do i pack her indoors off to bed so I can turn over from Snakes on A Plane? What are the averages?
-
8-2 and on an interval in a race to 16 for a place in the semi.
-
Watched a few games yesterday - Wright showing his class in the end against Webster (?). You'd still bet on MvG ( I thought he was playing Barney?) coming back as winning 8 in 21 is still a big ask against him for most players.
-
10-2!
-
SHHHHHHHHHITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
-
12-3. When was the last time MvG took a pasting like this?
-
Blimey. Is Taylor rolling back the years or MVG off the boil?
-
Bit of both. MvG was roundly booed at the start and it seemed to rattle him and he's all over the place, Taylor playing well though.
-
15-5 and another interval.
-
11 on the bounce? Not going to happen. What are their averages?
-
Have to win by 2 so only needs 10 on the bounce for the match to carry on! Haven't noticed them showing or mentioning the averages recently.
-
MvG has lost his marbles! 146 left and throws 140 to leave 6! Managed to finally hit double 1. 15-6.
-
Sounds like he just wanted to throw a big ton.
-
Bit of both. MvG was roundly booed at the start and it seemed to rattle him and he's all over the place, Taylor playing well though.
There really are some morons at the darts. The stick MVG is getting is ridiculous and you can see it is clearly upsetting him. They'd probably be singing his name if he'd got through and played in the semi final. Great win for Taylor though.
Edit - Phil Taylor as humble as ever in the post match interview.
-

As Taylor just said, it's no different in Holland. Taylor has been slaughtered by the crowd over there in the past.

He's been booed by crowds over here as well though. I just thought it crossed a line at times tonight.
-
He's a cock a lot of the time but you have to admire his talent. Quarter of a century at the top, winding down to retire in a few months and can still dismantle the best player like that.
-
Both averaged around 101 and yet it finished 16-6. As a famous philosopher once said, trebles for show, doubles for dough.

Oh absolutely. His longevity and consistency over such a long period time is unprecedented really.
-
Taylor said MVG's partner is due to give birth any day now, so it's possible that his mind being elsewhere affected him more than the crowd.
Darts crowds do seem to be twats, generally, though. Boring, unoriginal bellends with no interest in watching the sport they've paid to see. "Tables, tables, give us a song", "stand up if you love the darts", "Kolo, Kolo, Kolo". Fuck off.

I wonder if the baby will look like his dad? What am I talking about. Nearly all babies look like MVG.
-
Don't forget the highly original "Boring boring table" and the Icelandic clap as well.
-
Great game between Whitlock and Suljovic.

Yes the momentum changed a couple of times, good game indeed, also Mensur is gaining new fans with his charisma on the stage.

I think it's the beer talking. If football fans were allowed to drink through the game I've no doubt there would be far more issues. I think you could reflect on fans at football chanting whilst holding one shoe in the air and say it was pretty daft. 'Stand up if you love Villa', 'Brucey, gives us a wave' etc etc.
It's harmless in most cases, and people go for the game and beer rather than supporting one individual.
I went a few years ago to Blackpool, it was a fun afternoon/evening.
-
World Championships starts on Thursday
-
Please don't let Taylor win.
-
He's 4th favourite with the bookies after Van Gerwyn, Anderson and Snake Bite Wright
-
Please don't let Taylor win.
I hope he does. He's an absolute legend of the game - to have essentially been the best player in the world, by some considerable margin for a quarter of a century is phenomenal. Even Ronnie O'Sullivan, another legend in his sport and in the press recently, doesn't come close in terms of his domination of the sport.
-
I'm not sure Ronnie O'Sullivan assaulted a female fan in the back of a caravan though
-
I'm not sure Ronnie O'Sullivan assaulted a female fan in the back of a caravan though
I'm not sure either but Taylor did what he did, almost 20 years ago, was found guilty and punished by a court. As far as I know he's never done anything like that since. I'm obviously not condoning it but should an isolated incident for which he's already been punished mean he should be hated for the rest of his life?
-
t should an isolated incident for which he's already been punished mean he should be hated for the rest of his life?
Once a sex pest.......
-

Once a sex pest.......
Get the pitchforks out then - I love a good lynching.
-
Nobody mentioned lynching him, I'm just not particularly comfortable cheering on somebody who was convicted of sexually assaulting 2 women. I'm happy for you if you're comfortable with it
-
PDC Worlds start tonight, it would take some effort to beat MVG at the moment.
-
Dimitri Van Den Bergh is playing some decent arrers tonight, if he beats Bunting he could get through a few rounds.
-
9 dart wonder from yesteryear Paul Lim in action at the Lakes...er Ally Pally.
He's just won his prelim. The crowd get less interested in the darts ever year.
-
Did you see that wasp land on Sulijovic just now?
-
Magic from Paul Lim this evening. I was one year old when he turned professional!
-
Adrian Lewis just been knocked out by Kevin Munch, can't think of anyone that predicted that.
-
Two successive brilliant last matches. Tomorrow's final game involves Justin Pipe so that run is going to come to an end.
-
Don't care how he gets on against Snakebite Wright but that Brazilian fella has just done the coolest entrance darts has ever seen. What a dance on stage.
-
The female supporter in the Brazil shirt may have been the most emotional person I have ever seen at a darts match.
-
I expect the crowd to start coughing loudly tonight when Pipe throws after his antics in the last round.
-
Great game of arrers between Rob Cross and Michael Smith, Cross takes it 4-3 both averaging over 102.
-
Match of the tournament so far.
-
I expect the crowd to start coughing loudly tonight when Pipe throws after his antics in the last round.
Did you notice that Sky turned down the crowd noise when they were singing " you're fucking shit" at Pipe tonight? Mad atmosphere at the start
-
Plenty of seeds getting knocked out by unseeded players, Snakebite Wright knocked out now.
-
Magic darts.
-
MVG beats Barney 5-4, another close game.
-
MVG v Cross was one of the best games I've seen.
-
MVG v Cross was one of the best games I've seen.
A Christmas cracker, not many go to a sudden death leg.
-
Rob Cross goes 2-0 up after a 167 finish.
-
He's a twat but it would be fitting for him to retire as World Champion, seems unlikely at present though as he's Bristol City and Cross is Aston Villa.
-
There’s something about Taylor I really don’t like. Such as taking the piss just out of his opponents celebration. You can always tell when he’s rattled.
-
How close to a 9 darter!!
-
And he loses the leg!
-
And he loses the leg!
Unbelievable darts.
-
Just how did he lose the leg after that. I think he’s done for.
-
Turned on the darts in my local in Cayman. Now have 5 nationalities who’ve never watched darts before glued to the set and cheering for the old guy! :)
-
He's playing well and would be beating most players but Cross has been excellent. He as to win this set I reckon. Averaging over 100 and has only won 5 legs after 4 sets is crazy.
-
Cross averaging 109!
-
Cross 65 maximums.
-
Taylor averaging nearly 103 and getting twatted.
-
This lad is going to be around for a lot of years.
-
Doesn't miss many doubles does he?
-
Taylor looks a beaten man.
-
What a performance from Cross. Taylor played pretty well but Cross was a level above.
-
What a performance from Cross. Taylor played pretty well but Cross was a level above.
I think everyone there is a bit stunned by it.
-
Deserved winner, Rob Cross should be around for a few years.
-
Amazing from Cross. His rivalry with MVG in the next few years could be the best in the sport's history.
-
Glad to see the back of Taylor, great dart thrower, horrible person... his antics last night were typical classless behaviour from him.
And he cant even let Cross enjoy his moment of victory, the evening was all about him and his bloody ego.
Taylors antics last night were nearly as embarrasing as the year he got Kym Marsh up on stage after winning the title.
-
Cross was the one that had him holding the trophy etc and was banging on about it being about Taylor. Taylor is a twat but not sure it's his fault it became a bit of a wankfest about him.
-
Cross could do little else than be a bit part in the wankfest.
Taylor is happy to tell the world that the PDC would not exisit without him (he right, but does he need to continually bang on about it?) so Cross as the newboy has little choice but to bow down to the convicted sex attacker.
Also Taylor was happy to let his ego be massaged as oppose to stepping back and letting Cross enjoy his moment.
You may have guessed i am not of fan of Taylor.
-
"Value" darts back on, CH4 and BT. Wolfie out early doors. Dieter Hedman on now.
-
I like this tournament because they sometimes end up throwing about six darts at double one just like nearly every darts game I've ever played.
-
I've had it on in the background while I work. The only real reason I look round is when I hear the scores come in... "12", "33", "28"... There have been occasions when I swear they hit the right double almost entirely by accident... Although, in fairness, the match on at the moment - De Vos v. Telnekes - has been comparatively decent.
The saving grace is that at least Channel 4 have been fairly honest that this is "the shit darts World Championship" and that it's all about the Lakeside / tradition etc...
-
It's like comparing the Premier League to Non-League but then thats the charm for me.
Good job 'cos there's some dude on at the moment and if he isn't three parts pissed I dunno who is.
-
Resurrecting this thread. Anyone else watch the handbags last night at Sheffield between Gurney and Price?
Leave it out lads, it aint worth it.....
-
I've struggled to get into the Premier League Darts this season. Partly the feeling that MVG will cruise it and also RVB waining this year. Also don't enjoy the stand in players. Should have just picked another player, rather than alternating each week.
Gerwyn Price seems a bit hot headed. Fancied Gurney to go o and be a World Champion, but hasn't quite fulfilled his potential yet.
-
It’s that time of year again. Anybody’s call who wins this time.
-
RVB out, that's him retired. Cross gone, too. Knocked out by World punching above his weight Champion Kim Huybrechts. Although Sky coverage broke so they missed it!
Can't see anyone stopping MVG.
-
Bizarre interview with RVB after his defeat last night.
-
Last years runner up Michael Smith out already.
-
Women's Champ Mikuri Suzuki came very close to winning her game.
-
Fallon Sherrock becomes the first woman to beat a man at the World Championship. She was excellent.
-
Fallon Sherrock!! What a game!
-
Wow. That's not some shite she has beaten. He is a potential World Champion. Magnificent. Mon bab.
-
Wow. That's not some shite she has beaten. He is a potential World Champion. Magnificent. Mon bab.
Absolutely thrilled for her. Fantastic performance and long may it continue.
-
Come on Peter Wright, finish this.
-
If anyone’s interested, there’s a live stream of PDC’s “Dart’s at Home” tournament on this evening. Nathan Aspinal and Steve “Bronze Adonis” Beaton are playing each other from their own homes.
Idea for a programme Lynn.
-
Be brilliant if they got monkeys to do it.

In 5 mins. This is the only link I can find
If anyone has a better one?

-
Paddy Power did a live exhibition match between Phil Taylor and RvB tonight - brilliant "telly" (it was broadcast on Facebook)!
-
Plenty of seeded players going out early in the PDC world Championship, Rob Cross and Adrian Lewis knocked out today.
-
Well, my bet on Rob Cross lasted all of one match. Didn't he used to be good? Useless git.
-
Should be a good final tonight, Anderson and Price. I expect Price to wind Anderson up again at some point in the match.
-
Price must have had a massive turd lodged in his pants near the end of the match judging by the way he was choking near the finish line, just managed to get over the line. Shame Anderson was knowhere near his best.
-
Fantastic 9-darter from Borland last night to win his game. He looks about 12
-
Fantastic 9-darter from Borland last night to win his game. He looks about 12
He's 25 so it must be down to the healthy lifestyle Scots are renowned for.
And another one today from Darius Labanauskas. I'd imagine the odds on two televised 9 darters from a Scot and a Lithuanian were pretty high.
-
The Bronzed Adonis against Fallon Sherrock is a cracking game so far.
-
The Bronzed Adonis against Fallon Sherrock is a cracking game so far.
Like them both
-
He had to play his best darts to win that one
-
Excellent darts from Clayton to turn that one around in the final game of the evening.
-
Price v Huybrechts last night was an absolute classic. Fantastic match, even had a bit of handbags on the stage
-
Brilliant game but the tournament is being devalued somewhat by the Covid. withdrawals. Still, at least we get to see some other players progress I suppose.
Not that anyone in the crowd could give two fucks.
About anything.
-
MVG withdraws with covid.
-
I hope Snakebite gets a thrashing for looking like such a dick tonight, even by his own standards
-
Fantastic game of arrers between Snakebite and Rydz, even more impressive is the way Callan Rydz throws whilst balancing a shredded wheat on his head.
-
Peter Wright is a top player. To carry that look he has to be. But he really is.
-
Should be a decent final tonight, the amount of maximums Peter Wright got last night was insane and Smith is more than handy at 180's. I think Wright will win just but would like Smith to win.
-

Yeah, Smith has been brilliant in the last few rounds and seems like a decent bloke. Don't mind Wright, but would like to see Smith do it tonight.
-
Fair play to Peter Wright. As Smith faltered, he was just relentless and was a worthy winner in the end.
-
It looks like this thread doesn't get much traction. Me and Mrs S do enjoy the darts, more as "something on" in the background over the weekend and what not. We also try and get to Ally Pally and we're considering an afternoon on the euro tour if the dates work out.
Anyway, here's how 2022 has gone so far for all of you not interested:
Masters (Usually end of January, the first "televised" title of the year but it's not the largest of fields). Joe Cullen won this as his first TV title which likely resulted in his inclusion in the Premier League.
Players championships (these are one day tournaments, usually weekends, held behind closed doors but shown on PDC TV). Mixed bag year to date. Notable winners are Joe Cullen, MvG, Michael Smith who've won x2, Luke Humphries and Danny Jansen got there first ranking titles.
Euro Tour (3 day weekend tournaments held in various locations in Europe, again on PDC TV). After winning his first ranking title, the story here is Luke Humphries who has won x3 and placed highly in most of them. MvG has also won similar with the odd usual suspect picking up the odd remaining titles.
UK open (major TV tournament broadcast). Danny Noppert won this to really boost his ranking, it was his first major. He beat Michael Smith in the final, whom continues his search for a first major despite multiple finals.
Premier League (major TV non-ranking tournament on Sky). Changed format this year where each date is a mini nightly tournament with League points awarded for reaching semi final / final / win. Dominated again in 2022 by Johnny Clayton with MvG an untroubled 2nd. James Wade just did his usual thing and kept grinding out points and got 3rd. Joe Cullen beat Peter Wright in the final League night to edge 4th. These top four battle it out tomorrow in finals night to get crown the winner.
World Series (taking the game more global, more invitational and therefore non ranking). The first event last week was in New York where Michael Smith won. Last night Dimitri van den Bergh beat Gary Anderson to win the Nordic Masters.
Coming up is the world cup which is a pairs event (nation v nation), Wales will be strong with Gerwyn Price and Johnny Clayton.
That should bring you all up to date (ish).
-
I don’t follow it at all outside the World Champs, but what has happened to MvG ? My understanding was he was going to be the uncontested no1 for years, sweeping all before him à la Taylor, but he doesn’t seem to be mentioned as a winner much there. Have the other just raised their game ? Or is he faltering and not quite as good as sold ?
-
I'd assumed MVG would just take over from Taylor in winning everything. Three world titles so far is under-achieving for him.
-
It's a bit of both I suppose. MvG has probably dropped off a little but in no way has he become a bad player or anything (he's actually started to look quite strong again recently). It was initially the case that most of his opponents just had the game of their tournament, he was (and still is) losing with mainly very decent averages.
As a result, the top players then lost that "fear factor" and combined with them all seemingly upping their own game means the field is wide open. On any given day it's now easily conceivable that any of the top 20 (or beyond) could win depending on tournament and seeding.
You still see the same few names at the top of the main order rankings, mainly due to them working on two year cycles and being heavily weighted to the world championship, but there is a very strong and competitive list of players. It makes it much more interesting knowing it could be pretty much anyone winning the next event.
-
Premier League Finals
Joe Cullen 10-4 Johnny Clayton
Michael van Gerwen 10-4 James Wade
Michael van Gerwen 11-10 Joe Cullen
That's a first major title in 18 months for MvG.
-
How come it was played in Berlin? I thought it just went around the UK?
-
They used to do Ireland and a couple of nights in the Netherlands, not sure if they still do, but it hasn't been just UK for a while.
-
I must admit I don't really follow it, I was also surprised that the final was on a Monday.
-
The Monday thing was a strange one. I'm not sure if was just a calendar / logistic thing as they're in Germany all this week.
Today was Players Championship 16:
Michael Smith 8-6 Dirk van Duijvenbode
Michael Smith has now won x3 in a row.
There's another one tomorrow.
-
Players Championship 17:
Scott Williams 8-5 Nathan Aspinall
-
World Cup of Darts:
Australia (Whitlock / Heta) 3-1 Wales (Price / Clayton)
Dutch Darts Masters (World Series):
Dimitri van den Bergh 8-2 Dirk van Duijvenbode
-
European Darts Matchplay:
Luke Humphries 8-7 Rowby-John Rodriguez
-
Players Championship 18:
Dirk van Duijvenbode 8-0 Gabriel Clemens
Players Championship 19:
Danny Noppert 8-6 Andrew Gilding
-
Players Championship 20:
Adrian Lewis 8-4 Boris Koltsov
Players Championship 21:
Brendan Dolan 8-5 Jonny Clayton
-
World Matchplay 2022

-
Players Championship 22
Nathan Aspinall 8-3 Krzysztof Ratajski

Dave Chisnall 8-6 Andrew Gilding
World Grand Prix
Michael van Gerwen 5-3 Nathan Aspinall

More cracking games last night, Noppert Soutar, Van Gerwen Sulijovic and Smith Schindler were crackers.
About time the crowd learnt some new songs, boring boring tables is a boring song and no idea why they keep singing about the Toure brothers at the darts.

I've always been one for embracing the atmosphere the crowd bring to darts but it's now spoiling my enjoyment for the above reason, they might as well play a tape. It's become boorish and annoying.
-
Great darts from Clemens to knock out Gerwyn Price.
-
Pretty decent leg. https://twitter.com/OfficialPDC/status/1610378769520377858
-
Fantastic final last night, to hit a nine darter at any time is special but to do it in the World final is incredible.
Well done Michael Smith.

Especially when your opponent failed to do exactly the same, by one dart, just seconds before.

Incredible innit. I was laughing watching him last night. “School in the morning, he’s going to school in the morning”
-
Luke Littler looks like he's 30 rather than only 16.
Think that's still being generous
-
Luke Littler looks like he's 30 rather than only 16.
I wonder how old he'll look when he is 30. Apparently, after his first round match he celebrated with a kebab, and with a KFC after the second.
-
The Boy Wonder through to the last 16.
-
On that News last night they started their piece - in the fine tradition of cliched storyteller correspondents - with something like: "He can't legally drive, or drink in pubs, but..." It reminded me of the youth TV vox pop on The Young Ones.
-
What a match between Humphries and Cullen.
Meanwhile Littler does RVB 4-1 with a 105 average and is into the last 8.
QF on Monday will be
Dobey v Cross
Littler v Dolan
MVG v Scott Williams
Humphries v Chisnall
-

He'd almost certainly get served in a pub, he looks about 35. Amazed that he found time to practise darts in between what must have been the world's toughest paper round.

Haven’t been watching, but since he’s been highlighted I’ve taken a bit of an interest.
In a way I feel sorry for him, as he can’t have had much of a life with kids his own age.
I showed the wife his photo and she said 35, too.
-
4 down amazing comeback from Rob Cross to win it.
-
Cross v Dobey match just now - absolutely incredible stuff!!
-
Littler is phenomenal.
-
Scott Williams take a bow.
-
Littler through to final, winning 6-2. Unbelievable stuff for a 16 year old.
This was some leg. https://twitter.com/SkySportsDarts/status/1742285323567063329

That seems to tally.
He only looks about 30 there.
-
I really hope that the PDC and his advisors do a duty of care on him to stop him doing too much too quickly. At his age he'll feel invincible and that he can do anything and play for hours at a time but he is still only going to be 17 after this tournament. Being in something like the Premier League may good for his bank balance but may not be so good for his long term career. Hopefully they put his well being above publicity and money.

Luke Humphries has had quite a weight loss, since then.
-
Turned that around.
-
Going to be close I reckon.
Wonder if experience will tell in the end but great Final so far.
-
My money is on Luke to win.
-
Will need to be some comeback now.
-
Deserved winner, he's been outstanding recently.
-

Agreed. Probably the best result as well for Littler at such a young age.

Took up running to combat mental health and anxiety issues in last couple of years
-

That was my thought too. Obviously the young lad will disappointed that he lost, but it might for the best in the long-term.
-
Missing that D2 to go 5-2 up he just wilted after that. Shame but as others have said probably for the best long term.
-
I was impressed with the dignity that both young men showed at the end.
-
I was impressed with the dignity that both young men showed at the end.
Yes, I thought that too. Very commendable.

Littler is in the Premier League. Hopefully it won't be too much too soon.
-
I'm really pleased Luke Humphries won, he's had a bad time.
-
Littler is in the Premier League. Hopefully it won't be too much too soon.
I think he had to be in really as he seems to have captured the imagination of people who have even only a passing interest in sport. I went to a party night and lots of people there were talking about him. One even said that his Mum has no interest in darts at all, but watched his games during the World Championship.

Its certainly spiked my interest in the Arrers again!
-
That's the thing. He's in it for the publicity and money it will generate. And on the back of one tournament. It's good for the PDC because all they care about is money, I wonder if it's good for him at his age.

I touched on that, probably, a couple of pages back.
That he couldn’t have had much of a social life with kids his own age given he must have been playing in pubs and clubs

Wise words from MVG post-match, asking that the PDC, fans and TV give the kid a chance to grow and develop in his own time.

How does the point system work in this Pro League thingy?
Littler has 2 night wins, 13 matches won and has 23 pts
Humphries has a 3-13 and only 22 pts
Aspinall 1-11 and 18 pts
Van Gerwen 3-10 and 17pts
They obviously pick up pts elsewhere, but where?
-
Winner: 5 points
Runner-up: 3 points
Two losing semi-finalists: 2 points

'Bullseyes and Beer: When Darts Hit Britain' on BBC last week. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0287mq6
Nothing earth-shattering in it, but a pleasant trip down memory lane.
