Title: Barry,Milner,Young and Downing
Post by: QBVILLA on November 21, 2012, 01:18:35 PM
Hypothetically speaking if we had the opportunity to re-sign one of them in January who would you choose if any and why? Fees/wages irrelevant for the sake of the question.

I'd opt for Barry as I think he'd best strenghthen the team and would prove an ideal midfield partner to Ireland whilst also adding much needed experience to the side.

Agree with Barney74, Milner. Don't even need to think about it.

As it stands, Barry would be an ideal fit in the current team alongside Westwood.

Maybe Milner - we so miss his all action work ethic
Maybe Young - we so miss his quality out wide.
Maybe Barry - we so miss his creative quality in midfield.

Anybody who says Downing is taking the piss.

These threads are very depressing.  Anyway --> Barry then Young.
Downing and Milner much the same. They've been out of form since they left us, maybe they were only one season wonders.

Milner, by a long stretch. None of the others have come close the homage to Milner thread, and to be able to resurrect that would be a joy.

Young as there is a complete lack of somebody who can beat a player or do something a bit different. As a team we need
somebody more like Barry though. Can we have our lord back whilst we are at it?

I agree with Mr Eastie. We won't sign any of them though.

How about re-signing goal machine Heskey?

He's the one we sold who we miss the most.

The current team could do with Barry or Milner. Good all round centre midfielders are few and far between.

I personally miss Young the most. He was the one who excited me most. Whenever he had the ball he drove at players with it. Again, good wingers like him are difficult to find

Never really that bothered about Downing.

I would generally agree with the majority in that i would take Milner back without a doubt. Just his industry around the park would be a great boost to the side but i also would not right off Barry....he probably has a couple of years left playing in upper echelons of game. I think he would relish the thought of coming back to Villa where he could help bringing the younger element of our midfield through - you can never knock what he gave the club and there is still a lot of affection for AVFC....i know he has been supportive to Stan but there is more to it than that there is this love for club...his wife is a Brummie and i daresay she would like to at some stage 'come home'. Why not January!!!!
After all we had 'Sid' back time and time again and he never let us down.

Probably WW but, as long as we are playing the game, James Milner by a country mile.

He would change the dynamic of that midfield in a chuffing heartbeat.

Not that his heart beats of course. It chants and roars (I miss that thread!).

James Milner, come on down, absolutely would welcome him back tomorrow, i know cash is king, but i dont know why he went there knowing full well he`d just end up sitting on the bench, what a waste of talent. i know a Citeh season ticket holder and he`s never seen in him what we all saw. i`de kill to see it again.

Just had a look on a Glory Hunting site and can't believe how much they hate Young. He's really not made many friends up there and they can't wait to see the back of him. The same can be said for Downing at Liverpool. Milner can't wait to get out of Man City, only Barry has really delivered on his promise and he was the cheapest of the four.

Having Milner back would be ideal but my guess is he's a greedy bastard and would want stupid wages, even if he's promised a game every week.

What he might want and actually be woth are two different things. There are only three or four clubs that pay silly money and none of them would want Milner, we got ridiculous money for him and thats not going to happen again, like so many he has probably realised that to play regularly he will have to take a massive pay cut.

Have to say I would especially love Milner back over Young, but the player after some thinking and a few beers I would want back is Gareth Barry. No chance of getting him at the minute I know, but he would offer stability to the team and bring a bit more class and perhaps even more importantly experience, as well as obviously having a great fondness for the club.

Richard Crisp, Dean Spink, Lee Turnbull..........Can we not just move on and trust the manager to find players without harking back to the olden days. As for Gareth Barry he's like a bag of frozen prawns that have been left for six hours on a sun facing windowsill from 12:00pm in June......Ooorf.

Milner should have waited and gone and played in the centre at United as I am convinced 6 more months in the form he was in would have cemented him as a central midfield player, not a utility wide man.

Barry has had a good career at City, and all three of Milner, Barry and Young were justified in leaving.

Amusingly, Downing could actually be the most effective for us at the moment, as creating for Benteke and Bent would be something he would be very effective at.

I was watching Young in a match the other day, and I was thinking how he hadn't really kicked on since joining Man U.
I figured that with less defending to do his attacking quality might improve whereas it's possible his hardworking ethic is better suited to a Villa size club.

Only would want Milner out of the four on offer...

Young has been hooked in the last two matches and has been found out as not the player he thinks he is
Barry far too slow...looks better with better players around him...a luxury we don't have at the moment
Downing is................ well just Downing

Milner would be a sound central midfield addition for us....what a shame

oh and Cahill too
