Title: Code of conduct?
Post by: Legion on September 30, 2012, 08:00:21 PM
I was approached after the game today by an extremely angry Villa fan and his equally annoyed (I assume) girlfriend. He went on at length about being ejected from the Upper North Stand after singing and celebrating our equaliser. He was insistent that I added this incident to H&V for discussion.

There are 2 sides to a story. I'd like to hear the Stewards version as if it were for singing & celebrating after a goal then most of the crowd would be vunerable for ejection??

It's pretty difficult to discuss it without knowing the context or reasons.

If, as he says he was ejected for "singing and celebrating our equaliser" then I'd agree that it's dreadful. But having seen countless thousands of fans "singing and celebrating" in the past, I'd be pretty surprised if the stewards involved would give that as their reason for his ejection.

Like the rest of the posters here, I don't know what actually happened, which makes me perfectly qualified to comment ;)

In my experience, the more people jump up and down [metaphorically that is], and seek validation from as many people as possible that they're the victim, the more interested I am in hearing the other person's version of events.

During the course of my work I've carried out a number of grievance/disciplinary investigations. It's surprising how many innocent victims who put in grievances against their colleagues/managers are subsequently found to have been less than stellar employees.

As an aside, I witnessed some twattish behaviour in the ground today that just left me feeling embarrassed.

This is the first time in a good few years that this fixture hasn't been a lunchtime kick off.  Maybe some of the reports of fan trouble will mean it's back to a lunchtime kickoff next season.

I think the question here is "How did he/they celebrate the equalizer".
Flicking V's and shouting a load of foul mouthed abuse at the away support could be what got them chucked out.

I sit in upper Witton End about half way up right in the centre. I noticed today that there were a couple of people about 10 rows above us to the right who insisted on singing all through the game and mostly did this whilst standing up. They appeared to have spent sometime preparing for the game in a local brewery. I wonder not having seen the ejection event if these were the people who me and few others also found annoying. They were singing the classic S oTA!

Violence erupted as rival fans squared up after the drawn local derby between Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion.

West Midlands Police tweeted from Villa Park that fireworks were hurled at spectators after the 1-1 stalemate this afternoon.

Officers posted on @WMPVillaFC: "A minority of fans came together and flares were thrown into the crowd. Two have been arrested on sus (suspicion) of violent disorder."

Police also tweeted that a Villa fan was arrested for throwing coins at visiting supporters.

Meanwhile, one Villa supporter Mat posted on Twitter that trouble had also started outside the Doug Ellis Stand after the game, claiming that police had used batons to quell the disturbance.

Officers would continue to monitor pubs near the stadium for several hours, West Midlands Police added.

Didn't see any trouble of any sorts after the game, but it doesn't surprise me that much; the atmosphere was quite hostile at times. I'd also like to add that I thoroughly enjoyed going berserk in the Holte when Bent scored, one of the better moments this season.

Unfortunately there are.  Was sitting in the lower North Stand today and heard some pretty bad stuff shouted at the disabled Albion fans sat in the Trinity Road.   Two lads at the front of the section I was sitting in were threatened with ejection for the gesticulations they were making, so maybe the stewards had been instructed to clamp down on that kind of behaviour.

I saw those morons shouting abuse in direction of the disabled fans as I was sat in the family enclosure down by the corner flag. What didn't help the situation either was the disabled persons helper was stood up 'giving it the big un' making hand gestures to the Villa fans. Of course that doesn't mean our morons should react the way they did, but their moron should have considered the fact he was in the family area with young kids about.

We went a bit mad in the upper Witton.

I am right by the away fans and it was fantastic to celebrate right next to them.

They were a bunch of inbreds though, and the Police were really having a go at anyone who was giving it 'large'

One of there muppets was really going for it, shouting and foaming at the mouth acting like he was some big time holligan, right up intil the Police man shouted at him to shut it, at which point self styled big man turned into a mouse and simply went back to his seat and said "ok, sorry officer" in a rather quite mouse like voice

Made me smile

Two WBA fans in the holte yesterday. One looked completely hammered, watching the game on tv's by the food kiosks. Started celebrating when they scored. Stewards had to hold back our fans as police got rid of the two baggies fans.

I don't understand it. If you're going to be in the away area, is it really that hard to keep your mouth shut and just have a little grin on your face instead of having to go crazy when you score??

On a slightly different note, if whinging was an offense punishable by ejection the bloke sitting next to me would have been thrown out in the first 10 minutes.

I dont want to sound all sanctimonious but the biggest problem with ejections from the ground is that the majority of fans dont know what the rules are and as such feel very pissed off when it happens to them and they think they have done nothing wrong.

It only takes an instant to stick your fingers up, make insulting comments, threatening gestures that by the individual are forgotten almost as quick as they happen yet are picked up by cameras that are everywhere and are being watched constantly by a battalion of trained police / stewards / fire officers etc.

I am sure that there are some in nocent parties wrongly accused / ejected from the stadium but in the vast majority of cases the "victims" are not as innocent as they think they are.

There are signs all around the stadium identifying what is Civil law / rules and what are FA / Football stadia rules - take a minute and read them it would make a few take notice of their behaviour inside the ground

the fella that sat next to me on sunday was particuly agressive, shouting swearing and generaly foaming at the mouth in a very ugly fashion as the game went on, it was embarrasing to be honest,

there were young kids around to, who could have easily heard what was going on, and when we scored he acted like a complete nutter,
if i'm honest and i'm a bit ashamed to say this, but i was hoping someone was going to come along and throw him out. but it never happened
