Ciaran Clark has been handed Villa's No.6 shirt.
James Collins relinquished it when he departed for West Ham this morning.
And Clark was quick to snap up the prestigious top made famous by Kent Nielsen, Dennis Mortimer and Gareth Barry.
New signing Ron Vlaar, who tied up a deal this afternoon, has been given the No.4 shirt, the same as he wore with Feyenoord.
Olof Mellberg, Gareth Southgate, Shaun Teale, Paul McGrath and Allan Evans are previous incumbents.
Matthew Lowton requested the No.34 shirt for sentimental reasons, as it was the first one he was ever given.
Karim El Ahmadi wears No.8, Brett Holman No.34 and Brad Guzan No.22.
Club captain Stan Petrov keeps the No.19 shirt.

Unless i'm going blind, no Makoun?
-
McGrath was always 5 during actual squad number days, wasn't he?
Delfouneso has changed numbers to 23 to give Holman 14 then?
-
Matthew Lowton requested the No.34 shirt for sentimental reasons, as it was the first one he was ever given.
Karim El Ahmadi wears No.8, Brett Holman No.34 and Brad Guzan No.22.

that story is getting weirder by the day. I suppose his number hasn't been taken yet which is a good thing. Maybe his international clearance hasn't come through so no point confirming his number until then.

It's meant to be Holman No. 14. Guess they don't employ proof readers.

I guess that we're not signing LeBron James then

Wonder who 2 and 3 will go to when the inevitable happens?

My source tells me Maldini is getting number 3.
-
15, 17, 18, 20, 21, 24 & more available for all of those amazing new signings in the next fortnight, then. 13 too for the non-superstitious - or Owen Hargreaves.

Wonder who 2 and 3 will go to when the inevitable happens?
Fingers crossed
-
i assume they've retired number 18 as a tribute to heskey.
-
Worries me that Warnock and Hutton have the 2 and 3 numbers.

Don't be worried Chips. There will be vacancies at one if not both of those numbers by August 31st. I'm sure Lowton would have number 2 if he wanted it, and we're after a LB so Warnock's days are numbered it would appear.

The article actually states that Lowton requested the 34 shirt. Funny thing to say, on reflection, unless they thought he would have wanted No2 and expected the reader would as well!
-
Im pretty sure that numbers 2 and 3 will be vacated, and at least one filled with a new player (I'm thinking Cresswell and the number 3). If we had omitted them, or moved them to a different squad number, it would have just created speculation. Sensible thing to do is leave them be, for now.

Not worth a thread so sticking it in a couple of places of relevance.
Gabby Agbonlahor will be sidelined for a further four-five weeks with the injury to his left knee, sustained against Chicago Fire.
This is after the scan confirmed medial ligament damage.
Meanwhile, Richard Dunne will also be out of action for six-eight weeks, having undergone a procedure on a groin injury which he sustained and was not dealt with during the European Championships.
-
Looks like Clark will be given a decent chance, I'm sure there is some significance to his having been given the no. 6.
-
Of those injury lay-offs for Gabby and Dunne, 2 weeks of that will be for international games anyway. It would be nice to bring in a quality centre forward but we should have enough to cope defensively (I hope).

I'm choosing to believe that we've given them those numbers as a last-ditch effort to raise their value.

Regarding Makoun, from the Club.
@AVFCOfficial: Responding to fans queries, Jean II Makoun is No.17. Waiting for work permit issues to be cleared up. #AVFC
