Hi Guys
I'm currently holding my new home kit and in the queue for the shirt printing. Lady says 2 hours so they are working flat out printing!
It's a bit windy and rainy and opposite me is some indie band pounding away.
If you got any questions I'm here for a bit !
-
Erm .... Woop whoop ?
-
It's in his kiss, that's where it is.
-
Paul Lambert is on in a bit and a Fire Engine is here showing kids round. Pork and stuffing bap is £3.50. :)
-
Oh and it's still rainy and windy :-(
-
Why with all the ins and outs that are obviously going to happen ......... Would you want your shirt printed with a players name ?
-
I'm having Dad with a number 1 on it :-)
-
How does the shirt look in real life?
-
I'm having Dad with a number 1 on it :-)
you cant have that, coz my dad is no1! so there!
-
I like it. Collars we haven't had for a while. Claret to me is a shade lighter than last years kit.
-
shame the weather sounds shit. Still make the best of it and have a great time everyone.
-
Have they got any Gareth Barry DVDs left?
-
There is a bloke behind you in the que called Mike Hunt, why dont you say hello
-
Are there any Lambert out banners in evidence?
-
Gareth Barry DVDs are being used for coasters in the Stewards canteen.
Waiting for Lambos entrance on stage.
-
Any clunge?
-
I have just seen that the Parma shirt has all the names of their season ticket holders on it. Great move.
-
Any sign of the Messiah yet, or is he being a naughty boy and refusing to appear?
-

he now manages Sunderland

Now that is a nice touch.
-

The bloke in front is Hugh Jarse. Say hello to his wife. She likes to be known as Mrs Hugh Jarse.
-
Ok home now but Paul Lambert came onto the stage (eventually) and a huge round of applause.
There's only one Paul Lambert
There's only one Paul Lambert
To which he replied "Wait till a ball beens kicked"
Cue laughter. The guy came off as really pleasant, genuinely happy to be here and can't wait to get started. Amazingly the sun came out round about he time he came on!
A sign of things to come surely.

Blues do that too but you have to request for shirt printing and pay extra.
-
Got there late only caught the end of Lambert..gutted. didn't like the kit colours are wrong it looks cheap
-

Is that Isaac's brother?
-
Should have gone into the shop in town it was pretty quiet. Shirts look better than the pics but still not convinced. The away does look a tad glow in the dark.
I didn't buy either I was just a moocher.

And then Captain Jack interviewed him. Asking such insightful questions like, "have you settled in to your new office yet?" Clueless interviewer. I wanted him to ask Paul Lambert about signings, not about the new office colour scheme!!
-
You really expect him to reveal anything like that at a kit launch?
-

Why not? A captive audience. He could always laugh it off! My point is about the crap interview, not necessarily about transfers. Waited for 20 minutes for that shite.

It's Jack Woodwank. What were you expecting?

Jack's a nice bloke but there's a reason that he's not pushing for Jeremy Paxman's job

Jack has mastered asking the same mundane questions over and over again in a different way. He actually never asks anything at all in the end.

I bumped into Jack Woodhall or whatever his name is before the opening game against Blackburn last season. I shook his hand and say hello, and he promised to put my name on his AVTV match-day report or whatever but never did.
So I confirm that he is, indeed, a wanker.
-
The kit doesnt look cheap and if all we have to moan about is a 'crap' kit them im happy!

Don't even get me started on that guy...

Barry Bannan was there modelling the childrens clothes

Yes but that response of appreciation to him, is merely through sheer relief that McCleish has gone , not that he has done anything yet.

Birmingham do a similar thing with a beer mat

Poor Barry.

Jaysus - £1.80 in Cov market.
-
Just because they call it a pork bap (in Cov) doesn't mean that it is pork.
-
Peter Withe and Pat Heard just did a Q&A with JW. The whole place is buoyant.

Me and the rest of the family were down there earlier today.
The lad got his new shirt. I got my hands on the European Cup and we got to listen to a couple of impressive bands.
Well done to all at the club.

A 'batch'. God knows where they get that from, it's a fucking cob.

FUCKING COB
-
When I was younger we always said cob. Now I say baps. Partly because baps amuses me. I'm dead mature me.
-
Cob is Brummie, batch is Coventrian. Baps is not even Midlandish. So obviously, cob is correct.

I was in Coventry this morning (buying an item I knew was in stock at the Cov branch of the retailer in question - a 'straight in, straight out' operation, pretty much).
Having dodged the morning alcoholics, skinheads walking devil dogs (not on leads), and various street mentals which make up most of the people around the central shopping area at 11 on a Sunday morning, we popped into Caffe Nero, to get something to eat, and marvel at the effect of slapping some glass on top of a bit of what must be (excepting Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Cumbernauld) the most depressing core retail area in Britain.
As the 'barista' was preparing my breakfast order, he said something which sounded vaguely whiney, which i couldn't understand, and looked at me, waiting for a reply.
Whatever he said, it went up at the end, so I knew he was either a. Australian or b. Asking me a question. He tried three times, and I still couldn't get it. Then he added a cutting motion, and I understood that he was asking if i wanted a knife with my croissant.
I told him no, and he looked exasperated, and said "What did you think i was saying?". I was just about to counter with "I've no idea, your stupid whiney, vaguely East Midlands / vaguely Brummie / vaguely Southern accent makes it nigh on impossible, you dolt", when the Mrs intervened with "Ignore him, he's half awake at most" (meaning me).
Anyway. The moral of the story is, who cares what they call them in Coventry, the correct word is "cob".
-
On the subject of Coventry, one thing i love about going there is the ring road. I've never come across a road like that in Britain, so unbelievably dangerous is it - it mixes "get across into this lane FUCKING QUICKLY or you're bollocksed" planning with feeder lanes that just appear from nowhere and deposit cars right in front of you, and some of the worst road surfaces you'll find anywhere.
I genuinely enjoy driving on it, it makes you feel alive. In fact, it's the only bit of road in Britain that fully emulates the adrenalin-surging experience of driving around Southern Italy or Greece.

The lower precinct? Once home to 'Spin a Disc Records' which is now the lower story to H&M (or something similar). Did you ever 'experience' it before the glass makeover and link to the market?
There does seem to be a lot of mentals roaming the streets in central Coventry, something which I've always experienced about the place since I was old enough to be allowed to go into towns sans parents. One guy in particular used to go around on a red motobility scooter with loads of mops and brooms in the back and hold up these pics that he'd drawn of stickmen shooting each other and proclaim that the end of the world was round the corner. He turned up in Balsall Common once and was moved on very VERY quickly.
I moved here from Solihull about a year ago and found it difficult to settle because there appeared to be little to do apart from go to violent bars in the city centre, but I made a load of mates at my job and was able to find the decent places to go. Inspire has to be one of the best bars in the Midlands, if pricey, and the pubs down Craven St are great.
The accent is a bit weird, a sort of cross between Brummie, Cockney, and farmer. And they call cobs 'batches'.

Ah, the famous ring road. There is a theory around Coventry that it's merger lanes were devised at a time when cars didn't go so fast and that is why it feels like a slalom getting onto it. This, of course, misses the point that cars also did 60 mph back in the sixties as well.

FUCKING COB
They also call it a barm in Stoke.

In the late 80's on the way back from a match against Coventry I had an accident on the ring road. Somebody went into the back of me and I was stationary!

Cobs and baps are different types of rolls. Cobs are hard and baps are soft rolls.
Bap = batch
Pork should be served on baps. Cobs should be reserved for cheese and onion.
Cheese and onion cobs and a couple of pints, the perfect pre-match double.

It's the closest thing in the UK to the sheer "what the fuck is going!" feeling you get from driving around the Arc de Triomphe. It's absolutely insane, people merging in and trying to get off in the space of 50 yards.

It's a barmcake. You can shorten it to barm if you must.

A few definitions.

The best thing about Coventry is the by-pass. I can't think of a better thing to do than by-pass Coventry. Coventry makes West Brom almost bearable.

I used to have a Saturday job in a bread shop. Cobs were round (often crusty), rolls were long and baps were soft, flat, with flour on them. Oh and bridge rolls were long but shorter than ordinary rolls :)

There's a speed limit of 40 mph. If you can't get on and get off a road at that speed without crashing, you need your licence taken off you.
It's a cob, but I like to call it a bap. And I always ask for them in pairs.

Any pics from anyone who went?

Why do you want pics of Coventry ring road?

No matter what you might think about the shirt design or anything else, it got a few thousand people to Villa Park in horrible weather, spending money they wouldn't otherwise have spent. It's such a simple idea I can only wonder why nobody had thought of it before.

I went on Saturday and thought it was great. The music was good, the chance to see Lambert tell us how proud he is to manage a big club like Villa (depsite the woeful questions Woodward asked him) was really good. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it's clear from what Woodward kept telling us "we want the club to be closer to the fans", even Lambert said something of the same sort.
I'd love to know how much money the club made over the two days.

Best sales in over a decade.
-
To repeat what others have said, a brilliant idea to get/keep fans enthusiasm up during the close season. Another very positive step in the right direction.
And regarding the discussion of the difference between Macron and Nike the most important question had to be "when will it be available for customers to purchase?" and Macron have hit it bang centre. Reported to be best sales for a decade and will no doubt exceed total sales of years past by simply having it on sale before the main holiday period and the start of the new season. Even I, with no sales background, can see that that is a no brainer.

spot on. Nike were a fucking disgrace. The quality of the traing gear was shite despite it being pretty pricey. Well done to Macron and Villa, will get a shirt at somepoint just for milling around the house.

Agree with that, and I also like the shirt!
-
Yes, well done Villa. Would love to have gone but the kids are too young to appreciate it yet. Hopefully it will be a regular thing and we'll make it down there in the future.
-
We went for a short time yesterday afternoon and thought it was excellent.
A special thank you to the car park attendant who allowed us to park in the staff car park (the coach park normally) as Jon is on crutches. Extremely helpful.

When you need the local filth to release a video explaining how to get on and off, you know it's a bit out of the ordinary!
