1) Beating Sunderland 3-0, as our swift passing and movement off the ball proves to be too confusing for them.
2) Beating Liverpool 3-0, with Stewart Downing carrying on his impressive form of last season.
3) Seeing crowds closer to 40K than 30K
4) A renewed sense of togetherness from the owner, manager, players and fans.
5) A top half finish, with a sniff of the top 6.
-
Actually trying to score those, urm, what-d'you-call-'ems...begins with a G.
-
Attacking and a tangible sense of hope around the club again. Hopefully we'll spend some money again and positivity will return. Villa Park is a formidable ground when the whole club is pulling in the same direction.
-
Goals scored from a corner.
A Plan B.
Going into games with the so-called 'big teams' thinking we've got a chance.
-
Seeing everyone (well almost) much happier again! What a relief that will be.
-
Another crack at the FA Cup, five months after Lambert's new direction for the club is commenced.
-
Believing we can win and trying to win any game we play in.
-
Walking towards Villa Park pre match with a sense of optimism rather than the dead hand of fear.
Having fun in L8.
-
Walking towards Villa Park pre match with a sense of optimism rather than the dead hand of fear.
This X 100
-
I'm looking forward to drinking more beer on a matchday.
-
Not knowing the outcome of the game the day before kick-off.
Players working themselves into the ground.
Team picked on merit, not reputation.
Widespread feeling of optimism.
The end of defeatist post-match interviews.
That's just a handful of things that spring to mind....
-
Not feeling so apthetic towards every game
Having a go at one of the cups
Not fearing the oppostion
Players fans and manager on the same wavelength
Decent attendances and some atmosphere created thats joyous not poisonous
-
Me , actually wanting to go down VP for a change ;)
-
Win, lose or draw, excitement and effort linked with some optimism.
-
Coming on here and not having to wade through pages of how we're doomed forever.

May as well aim high.

Well, the board have corrected last year's error, and haven't appointed as close to a guaranteed failure as it's possible to get. Despite what some people think, I believe that the vast majority of fans simply want to see Villa do well, and last season was just abysmal beyond belief.

Agreed.
-
From other club's fans, pity replaced by envy and hatred. I've missed that.

Aye, it was that.
Other than pretending it never happened I'm looking for suggestions as to how we can eradicate 2011/12 memory from the memory bank.

So on an optimistic thread, you've come on to moan about fans moaning. Not entirely sure how that works, but whatever floats your boat.
-
Being able to listen to the Guardian pod without having to hear the 'Villa are abysmal, for football's sake they should go down' stuff. Which was worse given how hard it was to argue with.

Alcohol + long bank holiday weekend should wipe out most of the last ten years, let alone last season!

To be honest if people were ever going to moan it would have been last season and I think even this forum on the whole was patient. It was truly atrocious and I don't think people complaining were out of order. Hopefully that is all in the past now though.
-
- The team being built around a superb, dynamic, intelligent Stephen Ireland
- N'zogbia playing like we all know he can on a consistent basis
- Marc Albrighton winning back the support of H&V
- Getting to sing "hi ho Aston Villa" after a game more than 4 times in a season
- Having Darren back scoring goals
And most importantly,
- Seeing my old man happy for a change, he's had a really tough year.
-
Winning
Feeling good about the Villa again
Villa Park being a fortress once more
No Heskey
-
Coming on here and not seeing a single cheap-swipe 'told you so' post several seconds after it's confirmed Villa won't be relegated.
-
I will settle for the team playing for each other, looking like they care and having spirit. No more gutless performances and no more rolling over having our bellies rubbed when we go to Arsenal, Manu, Spuds etc.
-
Actually looking forward to Villa games rather than cowering behind the sofa hoping we scrape a draw and stay up.
-
A goal from a corner would be nice too.
-
Looking at the table in February and thinking what are the run ins like of the teams going for European qualification thinking we can catch them, without any looking at the relegation zone.
Seeing Wigan relegated and emu sacked.
-
I'd be happy with a mid-table position next year (around 9th-12th), playing some decent football and blooding the kids in a controlled manner, rather than a desperation one.
A good run in one of the cups too. After the car crash season last season, that would suffice and build onwards from that.
Oh, and most important, business as usual finishing above Shitbion.
-
Hope - the mearest of belief that we can beat anyone
Players played in their rightful positions
The best out of potentially some key players for us (Ireland /Makoun / Gabby / N'Zogbia / Albrighton) to name a few
Darren Bent being the first player for ages to break 20+ league goals
Some ambition
Some pride back
Players playing without any fear
An energised support
The media realising what was wrong can be put right
No more lame excuses
The thought of being able to watch the villa again and not a facsimilie of the dog shit
No guarantee of any success just the knowledge that the big black cloud that was TSM has been removed
-
Well put Hookey
-
The healthy return of the Captain.
-
Jean Makoun in midfield
-
A thread on optimism started by Risso. The good times must be back!!
Seriously though, I am massively looking forward to the arrival of Lambert and his principles being laid down at the club. I really hope that not only does he do well, but akin to Moyes, he's here for a good length of time. We need sustained growth, continuity and success and I really hope Lambert is the man to bring that to us.
-
Not surrendering before matches have even kicked off and then hearing our Manager being interviewed sounding grateful that we kept the score down.
The progression of the kids under a progressive Manager.
Being involved in exciting matches again.
Regaining some respect for the Board after some recent PR disasters.
Scoring goals and winning more matches.
All things considered, it's not much to ask for really...................
-
Meeting up with Risso and Blandy at Wigan
-
1. The fixture list coming out- don't know why but I have always looked forward to that.
2. Going to Villa Park and seeing the North Stand big screen back- I miss it like an old friend.
3. Supping a few beers pre match and post match with my mate JW now fully recovered from the same illness as Stan.
4. Most of all, having the company of my boy, through thick and thin, good or bad, proud that since he was 3 ( he's now 13) his love of this great team has never wavered.
It's going to be a good one.
-
Not being last on MOTD every week!!

So on an optimistic thread, you've come on to moan about fans moaning. Not entirely sure how that works, but whatever floats your boat.
It was meant to be tongue in cheek.
-
I'm just looking forward to enjoying games at Villa Park again.
Last season was the worst ever season, for me. And I include relegation in 1987 in that.
-
Believing again.
-
hope and expectation;
the pre-match buzz;
not having to suffer the two-hour return journey after a painful game;
not having to bat off the condolences of fans from other teams every week;
a team on the front foot, willing to try different things;
the growth of the youth potential into actuality;
a Villa Park rocking with noise, excitement and purpose - willing the team to go on and score another;
Villa shirts on sale around the country;
kids wanting to be Gabby or Gardner or Clarkey when having a kick-around.
not much then!
-
Football, football, football.
Putting the Villa down on the bettimg slip with belief and not through loyalty.
-

Fair enough them, cheers! :)

Cheers indeed, looking forward to the good times again :-)
-
Smiling after 90% of games
Crying after 10% of games instead of the other way around.
Oh........And supping ice cold beer and enjoying it.It doesn't taste as good when the Villa are'nt playing.
-
Hopefully our youth, with better coaching and guidance can kick on a bit next season, there's some talent which needs unlocking in Bannan,Delph and Albrighton.
And no mention of teams with different agendas.
-
I'm actually looking forward to everything. Literally. Last year every game you knew there was a better than good chance we'd lose, and an even better chance that the game would bore the piss out of us and it would end in a draw. Then the manager would come out and tell you how perfect the tactics were. No more of that. Lambert talks a great game and goes out to win every time. His win at Spurs this season was evidence of that, and when was the last time a Villa team went to Spurs with every intention of winning the game?
-
The club and fans united again.
Matchday excitement
Home games with an atmosphere
Crowds picking up
Randy get a kick out of his club again
The resurrection of Aston Villa
-
I'm not expecting miracles straight away, as the playing squad is still largely shite. However, getting a shred of dignity back would be a nice start. I've never known a Villa team be as widely ridiculed as we were last season.
-
Coming on here and not having to wade through pages of how we're doomed forever.
Did I mention that I think we are doomed forever?
-
Milner flying down the wing...
-
Completing my groundhopping of the West Midlands League Premier Division. Only five to go. Get started on Division One then.
-
Chris Smith defending that useless twat Lambert after our sixth successive defeat.
-

Not sure the first two will be around that long next season.
-
May I bee the first to say that I think Lambert is a terrible appointment, and that I will remind you of this for the rest of the season.
It worked last year.
-
If we start winning, General Krulak.
-
I'm looking forward to Marc Albrighton actually getting a cross into the Penalty area.
-
Belief.
Goals from corners.
Goals.
Sky5 teams (not you Liverpool) nervous about playing us, rather than just expecting points.
A manager that talks about us with pride, something that MON did...and we havent really had since.
-
Logging onto the OS and not seeing TSM ugly fucking face
-
Milner flying down the wing...
Yes, I fancy Hutton to administer the hefty challenge that delivers this spectacle.
-
Selling hutton actually would be nice, also scoring from a corner
-
Seeing the following finally show the players they could be:
Makoun
Ireland
Bannan
Delph
N'Zogbia
Albrighton
Gardner
Also seeing Gabby return to form would be good. I think he'd do well for Lambert.
-
seeing players if not doing what of asked of them
if defenders not performing too their best ( not properly defending set pieces) then geeting dropped
-
If we start winning, General Krulak.
I, for one, would try my hardest to give him as much stick as possible.
-
Chris Smith defending that useless twat Lambert after our sixth successive defeat.
*Chuckles*
For me, it'll be great to feel part of a long-term project again. Houllier never felt right, from day one. McLeish...need I say any thing else?
This would be a positive appointment of somebody who just seems like a good fit for villa. An ambitious young manager in a hurry to win. Terrific.
-
Villa finally joining the 21st century.
Entertainment.
Villa Park being a place where we love playing and win games.
Being proud after 90 minutes of every player in a Villa shirt.
Reading hundreds of different understandings to Paul Lambert's post match comments.
-
A goal from a corner would be nice too.
Defending a corner would be even better
-
Milner flying down the wing...
Not as far fetched as some might think......
-
I'm looking forward to people moaning that we only scored 3 and didn't go for 4 or 5.
-
Going 2-0 up against somebody *good* and knowing that we're going to win, and the Holte End singing Villa-Villa-Villaaaaaaaaa, and all my hairs standing on end.
Fucking hell, I've missed that
-
Not being last on MOTD every bloody week.
-
Some new signings.
Some improved individual performances from last season, especially from players like Ireland, N'Zogbia, Albrighton and Gabby.
Darren Bent getting decent service.
A better atmosphere at Villa Park.
More goals to cheer at Villa Park.
More wins to cheer at Villa Park.
More positive away performances.
-
Better football.
Trying to win.
The dissipation of defeatism.
Players improving rather than getting worse.
-
"ANOTHER hatrick for Darren Bent? The novelty's gone for me!"
-
I'm also looking forward to being nice and civil to my family Saturday evening and all day Sunday.
-
Not having to be a fair way towards being pissed to contemplate entering the ground.
Scoring some goals.
Winning some home games.
Trying to beat the "super clubs".
It not being two hours of a day out to be endured rather than enjoyed.
Everyone pulling in the same direction for the first time in a long time.
-
Being able to walk into the White Horse after a match and not have Nose's and Baggies patronising me.
It's supposed to be my job to patronise them. Hopefully normal service will resume next season.
-
Oh, and those gobby fucking stripe ridden bastards back in their box.
-
Winning the FA Cup.
-
Darren Bent being utilised properly.
-
Trying to score some goals against "elite" clubs
Villa players successfully passing to each other
Alan Hutton doing something
No more Heskey
-
Earning a
pittance substantial amount of money from my employer.
-
Meeting up with Risso and Blandy at Wigan
Likewise matey. Shame that Blackburn and Bolton between them managed to lessen our opportunities for beer and a natter.
-
Not being shit.
-
A Plan B.
A Plan A
-
Enjoying going to VP
Enjoying coming away even more!
-
A Plan B.
A Plan A
Getting confused when we get to Plan C, D, E
-
Oh, and those gobby fucking stripe ridden bastards back in their box.
Oh yes. Another bitter uppety small club. Smashing them all over the park in their tin pot ground will be a delight.
-
They played a big part in keeping us up last season...
-
Being able to consider putting us down for a home win on the fixed odds coupon.
-
Players making themselves available at a throw in
No threads on here saying we will win most of our remaining games and all the other relegation candidates will lose theirs...period
Maybe buying some merchandise
Having lots of grounds near me where I can see the Villa - Reading, Southampton and West Ham to name three new ones for a start
-
They played a big part in keeping us up last season...
Good. We can remind them of that fact when we annihilate them next season.
-
Much like everyone else, going to Villa Park again with a renewed optimism.
Due to Mcleish and work commitments I didn't renew last year but this morning I have just picked a couple of seats in L6 for myself and Father Gurner and booked via Sheila on the season ticket hotline. She might be busier come wednesday.

You selfish devil you - I have lost two local derbies !!! - Bolton and Blackburn
How ya doing mate?
-
Holt scoring at the Holte?
my idea at ajoke and sorry
im looking forward to being able to watch Villa, knowing we will have a go at teams and not play lets try and keep the score down
-
... after last season & 'he who shall not be mentioned' .... EVERYTHING !
-
NZogbia back to his best.
-
Winning the FA Cup.
This is definitely our year.
-
Really, really looking forward to the new season. Haven't said that for a couple of years.
-
Football being played a Villa Park again
-
Football being played a Villa Park again
On my one visit to Villa Park last season I saw some great football. Played by Swansea.
But yep I take your point.
-
Having lots of grounds near me where I can see the Villa - Reading, Southampton and West Ham to name three new ones for a start
I forgot about this one! Nice!
-
No more talk about "Elite" teams. (Unless they mean us.)
-
I hope never to hear a manager of Aston Villa refer to an "elite team" ever again. I couldn't care less if our entire squad cost a fiver and the opposition cost a billion, I still expect any team representing Villa to believe in themselves, to believe in the club and believe in victory.
-
Oh yeah, it's been said already but - Stiliyan Petrov with a clean bill of health.
-

Ha, fine thanks Clive. Southampton was always a shoe in for me back in the Dell days and then the few times at St Mary's before they got relegated so will enjoy bowling along the M27 to that one! Hope you are good too...
-
1. No Heskey
2. Thinking we might win a game not hoping we scrape a draw
3. Being able to move at half-time (we're transferring to the Holte End from the North Stand)
4. Sitting / Standing in the Holte
5. errrr Goals (?!) anyone remeber them.
-
Villa park been a fortress not an all you can eat buffett for other teams
blues disappearing into the history books to be used as a warning to naughty
child - "Birmingham City - who are they ???? "
-
not dozing off and the whole negativity of last season
-
Being able to sit amongst other supporters in the upper holte instead of a sea of empty blue seats, a better atmosphere not only from the Holte but around the ground. The only time the whole ground sang together was at the end of the Bolton game against McLeish.
-
Villa players passing the ball
1. To a team mate on purpose
2. Knowing why they are passing it to them
3. Not doing by accident or in desperation
4. Towards the opposition goal
5. To team mates in space
6. To team mates in attacking positions
7. To create goal scoring opportuniites
19. To a fit again Stan
-
Quite looking forward to seeing Holman play.
-
Having lots of grounds near me where I can see the Villa - Reading, Southampton and West Ham to name three new ones for a start
I forgot about this one! Nice!
Thirded - Being in Berkshire myself.
-
I hope the days of regularly going into matches without the slightest intention of trying to win them are over.
-
Football being played a Villa Park again
On my one visit to Villa Park last season I saw some great football. Played by Swansea.
But yep I take your point.
Based on that game, I don't blame you for not coming again.
-
Can't wait for the season to begin, anything has to be better than 2011-12.

10 defeats? I won't stand for it. Few too many drawn games there and I'm not happy with the goals scored. Can Bent and Holt really play together?
-
Being able to go in the Lions Club at half time.
-
At the moment ?
Everything.
-
Being competitive again.
-
A home pre season game against top European opposition would be a good start.
-
Not being unbelievably shit will be a good start.
-
Villa being a surprise package, that Lambert is a top manager
Positive football, bringing back the fans
-
Being competitive again.
this
