Always look on the bright side of life (whistle) or “and now the end is here and so I face the final curtain”
It at this time of the season that I always start to looking back at what we've achieved, as I spend the close season looking forward with hope and expectation. I thought it would be almost impossible to find anything positive in what will be our worst season in terms of home results in our history.
However ” I have found some reasons to be cheerful”
1) We will stay up – not because were good but the rest of the team below us are rubbish
2) We are better fans than Blackburn or that lot from Wolverhampton and we will prove it by supporting our team in the remaining three games
3) The end of season DVD will probably only cost £1.50
4) The core of our future team will be built on players coming from our Academy who will be in the first-team squad on merit
5) I now know what the difference between Alex McLeish and a coconut – one is thick and hairy and the other is a tropical fruit
6) The financial fair play rules will kick in which will mean that Manchester United and Arsenal will be miles ahead of us but the other clubs will move closer towards us in terms of what they can pay players.
7) I now know what I would do if I saw Alex McLeish walking towards me wounded – stop laughing and reload the shot gun (it's a joke it supposed to be funny not malicious)
8) We get the satisfaction of saying “we told you so” Alex McLeish is wrong manager for the club as we said at the start of the season
9) I now know why Villa fans took an instant dislike to Alex McLeish – it saves time
10) I remember reading something from the club (in Randy Lerner's early days) regarding the fact that he was happy to pay high transfer fees but not happy to pay higher wages. Once we get rid of the older players I'm sure that we are only five experienced players away from having a squad that will finish next season in the top six.
11) We are 100% certain to start next season with a new manager as this will be the only way the club will get anywhere near their season-ticket target
12) British rail have decided to use Alex McLeish in their new advertising campaign – they think he's a suitable role model because of his regular points failure.
13) The bluenoses will lose in the play-off and Chelsea will lose in the champions league final
If I was a Dr I would be prescribing Vellum for 80% of people on this site so, be positive there must be other reasons to be cheerful/things to look forward to what are they? let's get all the fans thinking positively as we move towards the end of the season
Help me out and post other things to cheer me up (along with the rest of the claret and blue Army) as I for one need to focus on positive things in order to give 100% support for the club over the next three games.
Remember if you think we probably will, you're probably right and if you think we probably can't, we probably won't
-

1. We are still Aston Villa.
2. There's no chance of a hosepipe ban this month.
3. Birmingham will be subject to a points deduction on the last day of the season.
-
If we go down we won't have to play at Old Trafford.
If we go down we might actually score some goals and, would you believe it, win a few games. Can you remember that feeling?
I've been accused of being over-dramatic for describing McLeish's appointment as the worst in hisotry but now people are starting to see what I'm on about.
We won't lose a competitive fixture between May 14th and some time in August.
We could be Coventry.
-
1) There will be some nice pies on sale at the Spurs match
2) If Mcleish stays and we go down, the cue for pies at half time will be very small
-
1)We're not Coventry.
2)And we still wont have to play them whatever happens.
-
A good pint will still taste nice
I like the pie thing with no cues
If McLeish stays it wont take hours to get away from the ground
If McLeish goes bring a sleeping bag with you cause there maybe some traffic
If we go down you just know that away days is going to involve thousands of Villa fans invading small towns like marauding Vikings, great stuff!

If we go down, the ground will contain people who actually care about the club, and not just the johnny-come-lately's who came for the O'Neil and European ride.

Why would you want to see the missus?

I can only think of one reason to be cheerful
We only have to endure a few more matches until we get a break from it!

We only have to endure a few more matches until we get a break from it!
Then we have to watch England and more glorious failure!
-
We're not Wolves and already down. Our future in the bestest league in the whole wide world is still in our hands.
-
If we go down, Gabby may score 20+ goals in a season
-
I can't understand why you're prescribing vellum though. Do we all need to write very old-fashioned letters or something? ;)
-
If we go down, ticket prices may be a lot cheaper :D

I'm sure Doug put them up when we last went down.

I loved the last line, it sums it up for me.
-
That is a very good article and the most truthful one I have read.
-
I am aware, from others on the site, that some people are of a much more positive persuasion than I, and at the moment a majority of posters are. So, this thread is for the positive things about the club this season, and no mention of the biggest positive being when Eck leaves please.
I will kick us off with Chris Herd. I think he has been a revelation this season, and was gutted when he was moved to the right yesterday as he does such a strong, committed job in the middle of the park, and Gardner is not at that level yet.
So over to you guys, lets have a bit of sunshine....
-
Its much quicker getting a pint in the Eddies and there have been some fantastic boobies on display..
It was nice to watch Keane, I thought he was superb in his spell here, after that I'm struggling.
-
Chris Herd, Eric Lichaj big positives.
Baker, Gardner shoots of future optimism.
-
being glad mcshite didnt take over when houlier was taken bad mid season
-
The Generals thread has disappeared, it's a positive for me.
-
All of the young players have had their moments this season,Bannan and Albrighton are a question mark though. It was a shame that Samir Carruthers didn't get more of a game yesterday.I think that next season he is a very bright prospect.Shay Given on his own is the only reason that we have not been relegated weeks ago.He has been fantastic.Chris Herd has been mentioned, another great talent.Weimen will be a good player for us next season hopefully netting lots of goals.A very disapointing season but i think there is good to come next season.
-
We will reap the rewards of enduring such a dire campaign next season. It's been said before but I guarantee this will have been an excellent experience for our younger crop, and I'm sure they will come back stronger and a bit more wise.
-
Herd, Lichaj, Weimann and Clark continues to develop, I think we have the makings of a very good team in 2 to 3 years time. Also as a positive slant on a negative thing, some of our average, overpaid senior players have been exposed this season, which will make off loading them easier and we can move on with a longer term plan
-
The kids really. If, and i mean if, we went down, I think it would be great experience for them to play in the Championship and grow together as a team. I think they'd take us straight back up and have bags more experience to boot.
-
The season will eventually end, that is a positive for me.
-
As others have said, the big positive for me is the youngsters coming through. Sometimes this season we have finished games with up to four lads in the 19/20 years age bracket on the pitch. It's been an incredible baptism of fire for them (and the other slightly older lads) which should hopefully do us all the power of good in the long run. We need five or six quality signings in the 23-27years age bracket in order to supplement the squad and build a real team around them.
Another positive for me is that Lerner was there to witness an angry, frustrated Villa Park the other night. I hope he has been thinking and reflecting since then.
-
£295 season tickets.
-
If we go down, the ground will contain people who actually care about the club, and not just the johnny-come-lately's who came for the O'Neil and European ride.
HERE HERE
-
Siegrist
Lichaj Clark Baker
Albrighton Gardner Herd Bannan Delph
Weimann Agbonlahor
That's worth paying for.

I do feel the clouds are not far from lifting. As crap as it has been I'm starting to look forward to the summer. We've inched a bit closer to safety, QPR are getting battered and hopefully Blackburn take a kicking from Spurs later. All this after what has been another consistently shit week with the silver lining of the board statement, the manager not being able to find his way through a dugout, sounding like a confused and broken man lead me to believe the end is nigh.
I just pray that once he has gone, that the board take a really hard look at what the future should look like. The past two years have littered with errors, embarassments and lost opportunities. But Newcastle have shown that it is possible in relatively quick order to get things straightened again. They went down to get their house in order. We can do the same without the humiliation of relegation. It is possible with a plan and some foresight. I hope our board have what it takes to do that.

And so say all of us.Great stuff.

Like most have said the kids have been one of the few bright spots this season. Robbie Keane's cameo. The immaculate pitch (mind you there's not a lot of football been played on it).
The lads I "sit" with in L1, who have never wavered in their whole hearted vocal support for the team no matter how bad things have been.
-
Last home game, and that, i think, speaks for itself.
-
The season will eventually end, that is a positive for me.
This and the kids will come good, oh and the season is almost over.
-
Soon the board will be looking for a new manager for the third time since RL took over. I believe in third time lucky!
-
The club have posted the following and I am sure it mean that they will sack the manager then come forward with a new date once the new man is in place
Villa's supporter help evening, scheduled for May 15, has been postponed.
The fan drop-in event, organised to help fans understand the season ticket package, financial options and availability, will now take place later in the summer, details and arrangements to be confirmed in due course.
-
For those that missed it, the Official Site for a short while were linking all #AVFC posts from Twitter. This of course led to the OS being full of anti-McLeish swearyness. Fantastic!
-
Darren Bent is staying! Confirmed in his own tweet! Hurray!

That's hopefully because he knows the manager is gone.

That quote from King Kenny makes it for me...just exactly how bad did he think Downing was? And yet he still gave us 20 million. WTF!

Albrighton Gardner Herd Bannan Delph
Weimann Agbonlahor
That's worth paying for.
It sure is, a bunch of young and hungry kids with fire in their bellies and saving us an absolute fortune instead of using it for the likes of Ireland and N'zogbia to burn on their fires to keep their houses warm.
-

Splendid and also stolen. Which is rather apt considering who he plays for.
-
I thought I'd dust this thread off from last season because I think we need it. Just don't read back through some of the things we were saying back then as some posts look a little silly now.
Anyway, reasons to be cheerful 2013 (I know we're not quite in 2013 yet):
No.1 - our agents in the field continue to either do good work for us (Agent Cuellar giving away a freekick then scoring an own goal 30 seconds later to help Spurs beat Sunderland) or continue to demonstrate why we were right to move them from the home guard (Agent Collins setting up Reading for their only goal yesterday).
Next...
-
Amazing how a week can change things- a week ago we were looking forward with hope against Chelsea , the last week has been a shocker but lets hope 2013 sees a Wembley win and that we can bring in some quality to see us safely into mid table.
-
Yes Eastie, things changed quickly in the space of the past week or so. I'm hopeful things can change just as quickly in our favour in the weeks ahead. The players are a little shell-shocked (a bit like a tennis player who has lost a tight, crucial set and then goes on to lose the next set in straight games) but I reckon they have it in them to get their heads back and play themselves into form.
-
I'm struggling to think of any reason to be cheerful about our plight. All I can say is that by the end of January, not too far away, we'll have a better understanding of whether we are doomed or whether there is cause for hope.
