Title: the managers table
Post by: Colhint on April 16, 2012, 11:35:27 PM
So I have been thinking about a table based on the managers performance. Not necessarily reflecting their current position, more where I thought the teams would end up, and have they improved or been worse than I thought. So, again its just how the managers have performed

1 Norwich,         probably expected to be fighting relegation, but should be the highest place of all promoted sides
2 Newcastle,      thought mid table at best
3 Arsenal           With the money at Chelsea, Man C and the way spuds were evolving, thought it might be Europa
4 Swansea         Relegation battlers, or so I thought
5 Man U             You can't knock him, well you can he is odious. But he hangs about
6Man C               Very attractive, might still do it but limitless funds
7 Everton           keeps on doing it
8 Wigan             Relegation Fodder, or so I thought, more balls than us
9 Spuds             Nice to watch, but another London club with a small trophy cabinet
10 Fulham           Small in comparison to their neighbours, but could finish within 4 places of some who have spent big
11WBA             boing, boing but probably end up top club in the midlands
12 Sunderland, normal position , but will probably buy jenas for £10m, then wonder why they are skint
13 Stoke           wanted to put them lower, but there is dross below
14 Chelsea       to probably lose a CL spot with that much money, come on, but the only team in europe
15 Lpool           £130m, win on pens, racists
16 Bolton          Might go down, might not, thought that from the start
17 Blackburn     Probably will go down, but have a few good players
18 QPR             Came up with all the money, probaly go straight back down
19 Villa             We all thought mid table at least
20 Wolves        -39 goals, like giving every team a 1 goal start

just my thoughts, really.
One more point, if we do get relegated, will he officially be the worst manager in the premier league history. I mean with 2 different teams?

Of course it does, 10 threads are never enough to say the same thing. Especially when it's a sack the manager thread and here's the reasons why.

Well I think it's an interesting thread/idea!

Also, I think the table's about right.

Interesting that the Arsenal fans have been a bit peeved with Wenger and yet, as you say they continue to perform.

I think it's an interesting post, with a fair bit of thought involved.  If anybody can point me in the direction of the other thread that debates all of the other Premier League managers and their respective performances, I'll post on that instead.

But in the mean time, I agree that Pardew, Lambert and Rodgers have done very well, but disagree that Wenger should be third.

Seems a relevant enough thread to me, an opportunity to discuss other Managers and their merits (or lack of).

Are there more under or over acheivers?

I think Man City are placed too high. All that money and will probably win nothing this season.

Yeah, I think I'd have Man City in 10th, below spurs. All that money and nothing to show for it at the moment... Of course they could still win the league

Maybe best to just not comment on our manager in here then, as there are a multitude of other threads to do that!

Pardew would actually be my pick for top of that table.  Lambert has done very well, but he's managed to navigate a very average mid table group, where as Pardew has gotten past that group and is mixing it wit the big spenders.

Yes I have to say that Pardew would be my pick for manager of the year.  He couldn't have put together a more lethal strike partnership for the money he's spent.  Brilliant transfer business.

Pardew's backed up good signings, relativley untried signings in terms of English Football, with excellent Football and a squad that has spirit and quality. Hats off to him, and Mike Ashley for making him the manager when we all laughed at his decision.

He's also trying to get the brilliant Vertonghen

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew travelled to the Netherlands over the weekend to watch in-demand Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.  The Belgium international, 24, has also been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City.

I'd say that Lambert just edges Pardew and Rogers as two years ago Norwich were in League one.To get them mid table in the Premier with the players at his disposal is a magnificent achievement.

I agree with your top six, but not in that order.
Pardew would top it for me, followed by Rodgers, then Fergie, Mancini, Wenger and Lambert.
Fergie and Mancini would swap places if City catch United, which I still wouldn't rule out.

Rodgers deserves to be ahead of Lambert because of the quality of Swansea's football.
Wenger deserves to be up there because he stuck to his beliefs and style despite all the shit that was being thrown at him from all angles.
Fergie and Mancini – I know they have the best players to work with, and a lot of them, but I doubt any of the other Prem managers would be able to do their jobs. Maybe only Redknapp.

I would not have Mancini anywhere near the top 6, should have done better with the talent at his disposal. Pardrew, Lambert and  Rodgers would be my top 3.

To me it's results first and style second, hence why Lambert is ahead of Rodgers.

Yes it does as many fans on here are just a tad fed up if you hadn't noticed.

No! I hadn't noticed.

There are approximately 733 threads and counting full of whingeing, can't you just post the same thing over and over and over again in one of them?

Pardew gets my vote for manager of the season but as we all know it only seems to go to the manager of the team that finishes top!

How is this a thread of whingeing? In my opinion it's been one of the better threads on here in recent weeks. It asks a question which any football fan, regardless of their club could have a discussion about.

So being fucked off about the profligacy of similar threads and millions of posts all saying exactly the same thing means you like the manager?

This is a perfectly interesting thread in its own right, and hardly mentions our manager at all.  Other than you and the other Dave somehow deciding that it's another anti-McLeish thread, which it clearly isn't.

I think if Man City win the league then Mancini should keep his spot, Also between Rodgers and Pardew it should be neck and neck, or goal difference. And as for Wenger in third, to me he's just a richer David Moyes, in as much he doesn't spend as much as the teams around him but still does it

I'd put McPorkSword up top at No1 obviously as he is Aston Villa's manager and was personally chosen by both Randy and Pauly... Oh...sorry... I'm holding the chart upside down.

Given the lack of footballing knowledge and nous on our board, the Director of Football with Coach option is viable.

What's crucial is someone is there making sure our academy continues to produce players like it has done.

Defo Pardew for me. He was a laughing stock 18 months' ago and the Barcodes were not happy when Hughton got the push.
Now, he has built an enviable base on which to develop for next season and beyond. Impressive.

I'd also add that Martinez and Di Matteo may well end up higher by the end of this season; both seem to have found divine inspiration from somewhere. Either that, or their eary-season efforts are finally delivering.
