Did anyone hear his commentary on Setanta? He was so far up Liverpools arse he could have cleaned KKKennys teeth from the inside.
Then he goes and gives MoM to the racist who has been booked for diving and has spent most of the game swearing at the ref.
He has lost a bit of his hero worship status.
-
I did wonder when listening to it whether he had been asked to accentuate Liverpool's positives as it would play better to their audience.
It was certainly a bit surprising to listen to.
-
I hope Dave is right, and he was plying to his captive audience, but no excuse for his unquestionable, nauseating bias.I've watched Lplop vs Villa games on LTV, and they are nowhere near as BL was yday.
Should hang his head in shame.A Villa legend should know/do better.
-
I think your still pissed from your wedding mate.
-
I listened,, I wasn't offended by his comments at all: he was balanced but at the same time he did accentuate the scouse position becuase it is newsworthy for many. Our plight isn't.
Surprised he picked Suarez, though, as MOTM.
-
TV coverage is worldwide and as much as we hate it audiences in far east, South America and Africa want to listen about Liverpool.
-
Great player for Villa in the 70s. Couldn't care less about what he did or didn't say on TV yesterday. It'll never effect his hero status with Villa fans of a certain age. Anyone who says different must be seriously easily upset.
-
Brian Little is a hero. He helped us win 3 League Cups. He's earned the right to say what he wants and if his opinion isn't towing the party line, so be it.
-
I thought his comments were fair he did make a few points about our doubts as fans that I agreed with, regarding our setup and style of play and ambition.
-
Have you seen the way Setanta Ireland advertise their games - they completely centre around Liverpool or Man Utd. Even their newspaper ads will spell out Liverpool in big red letters with the opposing side's name being written in a smaller plainer text. It's TV aimed at the lowest common denominator/gloryhunter, I'm afraid, and it does football no favours at all in the long run. I wouldn't be surprised if Sir Brian was told to focus on Liverpool by the folk behind the scenes. It's pretty nauseating for the rest of us but that's the way the media work I suppose.
I expect Setanta Ireland's one-eyed approach to broadcasting to be reviewed over the next couple of years as the gloryhunting rats steadily jump from the sinking ship that is Liverpool. (Fingers crossed there is a wide scale cull on all the Scouse football pundits, too.)
-
I think your still pissed from your wedding mate.
Thanks for that
-
Brian Little seemed like a very frustrated manager and spoke like one throughout. Another TV manager who can only reminisce of top flight management.
Sounded bitter towards Villa in parts I imagine he thinks he could do better than Mcleish and probably could too
Not enough acknowledgement to the young Villa players.
Though he had great respect for Heskey.
Brian Little not for for first time made a wrong selection as the great Irishman Given was clearly MOM.
His biggest thing was Carroll. He seemed obsessed with Andy Carroll not playing and being on pitch.
-
He can do, or say, no wrong.
Nothing to see here.

Blind faith - easter bug got you or all the talk of Liverpool fans supporting Dalgleish
#acceptance
-
I might have imagined it, but didn't he say early on he hoped he didn't come across to biased about Villa.

I really have no idea what you're trying to say.
-
The commentator on MOTD sounded like he badly wanted a Liverpool equaliser.
-
I could'nt see Pinnochio talking up Villa so much in the corresponding fixture.
BLs approach disappointed me yday, an opportunity to do missionary work in the Irish Republic, and he just constantly talked up Lplop.
Still a Villa great, but learn a lesson Brian

Did you witness his performance?

Agreed, I thought he was terrible yesterday. Muted the bastard.
-
Brian Little our greatest player ever. Brian boy man Villa through and through.
He is untouchable
-
I noticed too. He talked a lot more about Liverpool.
-
I didn't hear it, but this is the first time I have ever heard any criticism of our most loved living legend so I guess he must be guilty of saying something out of turn.
Maybe we should send a couple of H & V heavies round. You dont need to rough him up or anything, just put him right on a couple of things.
Nothing wrong with our Brian that a quiet word and a bottle of Grecian 2000 cant sort.
-
He's paid to do a job. The man bleeds claret and blue so it would have killed him more to talk about them than us having to hear it. Talking about Liverpool plays to their target audience.
-
He didn't pick the MOM. He's told what to say, and like any paid employee does his job...
Brian Little is still the ONLY true God to pull on a Villa shirt...
Brian Little Walks on Water....
-

That's how I see it. presumably the broadcasters know their audience and presenters/summarisers are briefed to that effect.
-
The commentator on MOTD sounded like he badly wanted a Liverpool equaliser.
So did 'Franksy' on WM.
He and the co-commentator were on the vinegar strokes every time it looked like Liverpool might score.
He also came out with a classic Alan Partridge moment
'I see Cody McDonald has just scored for Peterborough, interesting name that, sounds like something from the Old wild west.'
-
Only one cap for England?
-
I might have imagined it, but didn't he say early on he hoped he didn't come across to biased about Villa.
That's it. The great man was trying to be even-handed and over compensated a smidgen.
It's the only possible explanation for what I'm hearing.
-
Yes only one cap when apparently players that got into the England squad managed to not qualify for 1974 and 1978 world cup finals. That says it all about the England selection policy.
-
Perhaps was reluctant from speaking about AV as he may've felt compelled to criticise our current state.
-
If Sir Brian The Messiah said Liverpool or Kenny Dalglish were great, brilliant, the best, ever, whatever, then clearly its true. Same as Suarez being MOTM. I don't care what my opinion may be The Great Man has spoken.
End of. Fact. etc etc
And there is absolutely no irony meant there at all. If Sir Bri sees it however he sees it its good enough for me.
-
He didn't pick the MOM. He's told what to say, and like any paid employee does his job...
Brian Little is still the ONLY true God to pull on a Villa shirt...
Brian Little Walks on Water....
Not Macca then ?

absolutely this

Not Macca then ?
No, he made it. In seven days. Then he sent his son.
Bloody-hell. We're remembering his death today.

Macca was the bestest player ever.
Brian Little was even better.
-
TV coverage is worldwide and as much as we hate it audiences in far east, South America and Africa want to listen about Liverpool.
Which just goes to show you can fool all of the people all of the time. ;)
-
At one point after about 20 minutes he said something to the effect I hope i am not discussing The Villa too much, i think he spent a bit of time evening it up, I was not offended about anything he said.
-
I think that over the past forty-odd years he's done more than enough to be forgiven one piece of unbiased commentary.
-
Of course he can be forgiven but it's always a bit sad to hear a hero bigging up another club.
-
I think it's a bit off criticising Him on the day we celebrate His rising from the dead. What next, accusing His dad of slagging us on Goals on Sunday?
I hope you all choke on your Easter eggs.
-
Grauniad gave motm award to James Collins. I usually find that paper to be fairly biased towards Liverpool, so he must have had a pretty good game.
-

close second.... but NO!!
-
I do wonder if Paul McGrath will be remembered so fondly thirty-odd years after he retired.
-
I think he will.
-
Whether he is or not, I don't think he will ever have such a place in the club's psyche as Brian does.
-
Sir Brian please.
-
I do wonder if Paul McGrath will be remembered so fondly thirty-odd years after he retired.
remembered? yes... as fondly as Sir Brian of Little? never.
-
I think it depends how old you are.
Don't underestimate the effect of six or seven years of consistent, truly world-class performances (while pissed and sans training) on a generation of supporters who never saw Brian play.
Little to choose between Sid, Brian and God for me. I love 'em all the same.
-
Brian and God for me.
[/quote]
isn't that 2/3rds of the holy trinity though....
"...One club, under God {Liitle}, indivisible..." ;D
-
McGrath is worshipped, Little is loved. There's the difference.
-
McGrath is worshipped, Little is loved. There's the difference.
refreshing point of view....
-
Always the little villain for me. The greatest.
-
Brian and God for me.
isn't that 2/3rds of the holy trinity though....
Brian, Macca and of course the holy father Ron Saunders... That is who we worship as true believers.
-
Having watched sir Brian curl a shot past Ray Clemence to make it 5-1 to us against Lplop then a few years later watch God back heel a clearance 50 yards back up the pitch whilst running towards our goal Iwouldn't like to choose. What i can say is I hope God is smiling very favourably on our current number 19 in the greatest battle any of them will ever fight.
-
Paul McGrath is without doubt best player ive seen down Villa but in a world where heroes are fast becoming non exsistent I feel it sad that a few throwaway comments would alter peoples opinion of Sir Brian..
-
BL was the living legend when i 1st started going down VP, and he is up there.........but he is no Paul McGrath in my eyes. Not only the best Villa player i have ever seen, but also the best defender i have ever seen.
BLs, flowing locks, undoubted skills, brilliant performances do allow him forgiveness for sats commentary, it was just very disappointing to be so pro an opponent of AVFC

-
this thread has pissed me off, people are looking for spooks where there are none.
Doubting Brian Littles affection for the club is just ridiculous.
He still walks on water.
-
My thoughts exactly Hawkeye.
-
I thought his comments were fair he did make a few points about our doubts as fans that I agreed with, regarding our setup and style of play and ambition.
Totally agree.
-
The difference with Sir Bri is that he was here as a kid and has always professed his love for the club. That's why he's currently revered so much. To use dave's 30 year thing its more likely McGrath will be remembered on stats as much as anything.
-
Brian Little is more of Villa man than Paul McGrath but Paul McGrath is loved more. I love watching Paul McGrath. Can't say the same for Brian Little as I watched Villa since 1981 missing his era.
-
I don't reckon that Lord McGrath is loved more than Sir Brian. But as you said SPA you missed his era so you are forgiven ;)
-
Brian was absolute class through the '70's. Forget Glam Rock - Brian Little is all you need to know about the decade.
-
I am fortunate enough to know Sir Brian now - through football coaching locally.
Some people say don't meet your heroes , you will be disappointed - they are wrong - he is an absolute gentleman and villa through and through.
-
favorite all time player - best goal celebrations too.
